Servicelayer.exe crashes when backing up

Hi there guys,
I am currently having a problem with PC Suite where the servicelayer.exe crashes when doing a phone backup.
OS: Windows Vista
PC Suite: 6.82.22.0
Phone: N80
Whenever I try to do a phone backup it gets to 50% the servicelayer.exe crashes and PC Suite re-initiates a connection to the phone. This problem does not happen when I do a memory card backup. I have also noticed that this happens on either the cable connection or bluetooth.
If anyone has any idea what could be causing this problem please help ... I think that maybe I need to wait for a version is more compatible with VISTA!

I'm not sure this is isolated to Vista as I'm having similar problems on both Win 2000 and XP. Was going to start a new topic about my issue when I saw this post. So I'll put the detail here.
OS: Windows 2000 and XP
PC Suite: 6.92.22.0
Phone: 6233
Whenever I attempt to do a backup of the phone only (or phone and card) it gets to 80% before the connection drops out as described above.
Have tried 2 different PCs (1 Win2000, 1 WinXP) and clean installs of PC Suite but the problem is consistent across both machines. I am using a CA-53 cable.
Was going to experiment a little more by trying my 6230 to see if the problem was specific to the 6233, haven't tried just a card backup (as I didn't really need this) but will have a go to confirm whether this works as per the original post and to try and isolate the problem. Might also rollback the PC Suite install to an older version to see if the problem persists.

How to fix Lightroom 5.6 from crashing when backing up catalog database (external AND local backup) - Mac 10.9.5
It starts to cue and within 3-4 seconds, the program just crashes hard. As stated, I tried it on local hard drive and external. Same result...
In the destination backup folder, it will copy over one folder, no images.
    Thanks ahead of time.

  • IPad crashes when backing up to iTunes

I just got a new iPad Air, and I need to back up my old iPad 3 to my Macbook so I can restore the new iPad Air from the backup.  BUT....every time I try to back my old iPad up to my computer, my iPad crashes.  I get about 75% of the way through the backup loading bar, and then my iPad goes black and takes five to ten minutes to reboot itself, and then the whole process happens again.  I've seen multiple posts about iTunes crashing when syncing, but not the iPad itself.  I have tried hitting both the back up button or just the sync button (it backs up during the process) but neither works.  This same process also occurs when I try to update to iOS 8.3 (from my iPad, no Macbook or iTunes involved).  How do I get my iPad to last through the backup process?

Have you tried backing your iPad up to iCloud?
Are you using the latest version of iTunes?
How much unused space is left on the iPad?
Try to delete any unnecessary emails/messages & apps.  Clear Safari cache: Settings->Safari->Clear History & Website Data.
Make sure the iPad is charged before backing up to iTunes
    Try a general reset:
Settings->General->Reset->Reset All Settings.  You won't lose any data but will have to log back into your wifi network

  • ITunes crashes when backing up iPad 2

I have a fresh install of iTunes but it crashes always at the same point when I backup my ipad 2.
ITunes backs it up okay on another computer.
I have latest IOS 8.1.3 and iTunes on my main computer was removed as per Apples support instructions before reinstallation.
The crash seems odd as it always shows that it is trying to backup some rogue pdf file (always the same one).
If I knew how to search my ipad to see if I can find the file I would delete it but this sort of stuff seems very hard.
    I have 2 options -
    1.  Make a more complete removal of iTunes, reinstall and try again or
    2.  Do a fresh reload and restore from the other computer that appears to have a working copy of iTunes.
    What would be best ?

Sorry, problem is that sometimes it can take a long time to type what is running through your head. I think the problem is with iTunes also. And I guess if you don't have a Windows PC you might not be aware how they slow down with time as the registry clogs up and loads of old programs etc clutter the disk etc. Hence why I am wondering if ipads suffers from a similar problem. My ipad runs slower every time a new IOS comes out so maybe I might benefit in other ways from a reload of the IOS. Reloads also defrag the disk contents as a by-product. This would ("might") also remove the offending (?) pdf and therefore allow iTunes to work again.I have several thousand ebooks on my ipad and I delete each one as I read them as a way of telling me it has been read. Surely this must leave gaps ?
It is debatable which path will take the shortest time. The last time I removed iTunes completely it took hours. A reload may be shorter. There would be a risk of ending up with the same problem if I don't also fix iTunes of course. So I was really wondering if there might be a gain by doing the reload rather than concentrating on making iTunes work ?
With PCs it is easy looking for information about OS clog and PCs slowing down with age but much harder for me trying to find information about similar subjects with Macs and ipads. I am an Apple novice.
I probably shouldn't be working on trying to solve two problems at once and just stick with the immediate one of iTunes not working correctly.
There is another issue (maybe) when backing up to the good and bad PCs. The good PC says the backup moves through 4 stages but the bad PC seems to want to move through 6 stages. It is the sixth stage where it always pauses indicating the pdf and then stops working. This MUST be an iTunes issue also.

  • Explorer.exe crashing when opening directory with FLV files in them

    Hi,
In the past few days for no reason at all, every time I open
a folder containing FLV files, I get an error with Explorer.exe
crashing. I don't even touch a file, just opening the folder
    containing them causes it.
Has anyone else experienced this issue. It getting a bit
    annoying now.
All of my FLV files are created with Premier Pro CS3, and
until recently I haven't seen any issues.
Even if I use Remote Desktop into my Windows 2003 Web Server
to view the folder on Flash Media Server, my local computer drops
    Explorer.exe.
    cheers

it's probably because you have .flv registered as a video
file, and the explorer tries to create a video-thumbnail. (have you
installed any funky FLV video players/ or maybe a codec pack?)
If you can, try navigate to the folder in "details" view
mode..that should be fine, because details view, does not show
    thumbnails.
Then try to click on one of the FLV files.. you'll see the
    preview pane..and eplorer will crash.
i'm not sure how to fix this, but somehow, you should remove
.flv from the filetypes that windows conciders a video file.

  • (VS 2010 C++) cl.exe crashes when a lot of include paths are passed with /Zi, looking for workarounds

    Hello
If i pass a lot of include paths to cl.exe that comes with Visual Studio 2010, and i also pass /Zi, cl.exe crashes (16.00.40219.01). Here's an attachment to reproduce the issue: http://www.filedropper.com/clexecrash
Extract the folder to your system drive root (C:\), and paste the contents of command.txt into a cmd.exe instance. cl.exe will crash.
test.cmd is a command file containing the line "/IREALLY_LONG_BOGUS_INCLUDE_PATH" 683 times, and /Zi. Please note, that if you either remove even one line of "/IREALLY_LONG_BOGUS_INCLUDE_PATH" or /Zi, the issue goes away. Without /Zi, there
seems to be no limitation of include paths. Please also note, that it's not the sheer number of /I switches that causes this crash, if you replace REALLY_LONG_BOGUS_INCLUDE_PATH with something longer, you can crash cl.exe with less /I switches.
This issue is also present in Visual Studio 2012 (17.00.61030), but seems to be fixed in 2015 CTP 5 (i don't have access to Visual Studio 2013, so i can't try). I know Visual Studio 2010 is not supported anymore, so does anyone know a workaround for this problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    Peter

I cannot reproduce this issue with VS2013, your sample works well and generate a pdb file.
It seems a issue in VS 2012, but sorry about that I have no workaround for this. Please check this thread: this issue only appear in debug mode.

Crystal ran fine prior to having to reload the operating system. I have tried changing the compatibility mode (all of them) but the problem remains. The error log shows the same information as above.
I have tried reloading the program and again the problem remains.
    Any Ideas???

    Hi,
Well, the only issue I see here is the version of Crystal Reports. CR XI (11.0.x.x) is certainly not supported on Windows 7.
From what I know, Windows 7 supports CR 2008 SP3.
Since CR XI R2 is a free upgrade, meaning you can use the same license key, I would recommend that you upgrade to the latest Service Pack (SP6) available for CR XI R2.

  • PSE organizer v8.0 - crashes when backing up the catalog

I open the organizer, select File, then select Back-up catalog, and the pop-up window for 'Step 1 Backupp Options' appears; I select Full Backup, and then I select Next.....and crash.  Program closes and a 'Crash Report for "Elements Organizer"' screen appears...saying a crash report has been generated (which I did send).  Sadly this is the first attempt at backing up the catalog - 16G worth of data based on the My Pictures folder size.  HELP !!!  I really don't want to loose all my efforts associated with tags and organizing.

Summary/update:  I'm moving my photos and catalog from a Win XP to Win 7 computer, both which have PSE8.0.  Back-up wouldn't work on the old, XP, computer...kept crashing Photoshop Organizer.  So I moved all the photos and the entire catalog folder (as found in /help/system info) to my new computer.
Now I'm not sure if this is a recommended method, but I replaced on the new computer the Catalog folder contents with the Catalog folder contents from the old computer.  I then opened Organizer with fingers crossed.  My photos were there.  And my tags were there.....the most important thing I wanted to transfer.  But none of the photos when selected where 'found'.  So I had to go through the somewhat painful process of reconnecting my picture folders.  See  (www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm) (specifically, Quickly reconnecting large numbers of photos (PSE 6,7,8).  I never got the 'Reconnect an entire folder tree all at once' method to work unfortunately.
I thought I was done.  BUT, a LARGE chunk of photos have the wrong dates associated with them.  I have 4700 photos.
QUESTION:  Is there an easy to fix the dates (and not one at a time).  And why would all be good but the dates.  Meaning, photos are there, tags there, but dates wrong on some photos but not on others.   And that's the frustrating part, I have to one by one, practicially, search for photos having a wrong date.
    Frustrating

  • FormDesigner.exe crashed when I attempt to move an object in the document hierarchy

I'm using LiveCycle Designer ES2 to create a dynamic XML form.
I have a flowed page layout with a series of subforms arranged from top to bottom. The order of the subforms is necessary. When I attempt to move a subform up or down in the Hierarchy panel, the entire application freezes, then crashes. This happens regardless of what type of object is selected, number of selected objects, etc. Can anyone provide some assistance? I've tried rebooting, as well as running the application in comatibility mode with Windows XP (SP3); I have not yet tried uninstalling and reinstalling the application.
I can't attach the pdf as the content is sensitive in nature.
    Technical Details:
Running Windows 7 x64 with all updates installed.
    LiveCycle Designer ES2 version 8.0.0.2.20101008.1.734229
I have the latest version of CS5.5 Design Premium installed, as well as the latest version of Premier.

I got it figured out. I had a number of actions that pointed to nonexistant objects I had deleted.

  • Diskuse.exe crashes when path & filename is longer than 255 chars

    Hi All,
I am trying to use diskuse.exe v1.3 from Win2003 Reskit to report over 1TB of data. My problem is that diskuse crashes and does not complete. Just before the crash I get an error:
WARNING: Could not get SID for g:\personalfolders\adodds\my personal data\CML late relapse\Outcome of Second Allogeneic Transplants Using Reduced Intensity Conditioning Following Relapse after an Initial Allogeneic Transplant. -- Shaw et al. 108 (11)_ 3660 -- ASH Annual Meeting Abstracts.pdf
The path and filename is longer than 255 chars which I suspect is causing the crash.
The command I am using is:
    diskuse.exe g:\personalfolders /s /t /e:diskuse_errors.txt /f:diskuse_g.csv /q
Note I dont really care if some directories/files get missed in reporting if there are errors, I just want diskuse to continue and give me its best effort.
I assume this us a bug.. has anyone come across it before? any solutions or workarounds?
Late addition to the above issue...
If I run diskuse on my XP workstation against the same volume I get a drwatson error. The error codes are:

  • My iMac G5 crashed when backing up. Don't know what to do!

I was making a back-up of my hard drive using Super Duper and my computer crashed during the back-up.
Now my computer won't boot from the regular start up disc. I always get that flashing finder icon that flashes between the finder icon and a question mark.
I can't boot from my back-up hard drive because the whole back-up didn't finish so I have no idea what information I have on that hard drive.
I did boot from the install disc, the problem is there seems to be no way of repairing my hard drive which must have something corrupted, disc utility won't let me verify it or anything.
At this point I don't want to lose any info, I need to find out what I have on my external which I don't know how to do right now as I have no other computer. And if I can try anything without erasing my hard drive.

If you have the iSight model G5, you cannot self repair the insides/remove the HD (will void your warranty/AppleCare). You will need to take the computer to your local AASP for a professional to remove.
