Services doesn't use the software application I want...
I have DevonThink and, with a new installation of Snow Leopard, I discovered that the Services associated with text selections (take rich note/take plain note) only offers to perform that action opening DevonThink.
Previous to Snow Leopard, I could use Services to take a DevonThink note or clip the selected text to open in TextEdit. Ideally, I'd like to still have both options, but can't figure out how to do it. If I had to, I'd prefer to get rid of the DevonThink and only have the TextEdit option in services.
How would I do this--either naming two options in services for taking a note or getting rid of the DevonThink one?
I'm thinking you might have the answer here, but the process goes awry somewhere.
Here's what I have:
--I've selected text in an email (not all the text, just a section).
--I left click while holding 'control' key yet my options don't include an "open with" (I have: Search in Spotlight / Search in Google / Look up in Dictionary / Copy / Speech / New To Do / Services
The Services option drops over to Capture Web Archive/ Take Rich Note/ Take Plain Note /New to do containing Selection as Note / Import Recipe from Web Page / Clip Recipe.
When I use either of the "take notes" option, it again clips it into Devon Think.
What am I doing wrong? I'd dearly love to find the the "always open with" to change it.
(And, to the previous poster, yes, I've used the Services preference pane but it doesn't allow me to change the application from DevonThink, it just gives me the tick box and the keyboard shortcut to use the clipping with DevonThink.)

I'm attempting to connect to a website I've being using for 5 years plus. Now Firefox reports that the certificate is improper, and the message, " Web service is turned off. An administrator can turn it on using the Server application.", is given.
I don't know what to do with this information. Web service is on for other websites. What is the "server application?" How can I take control and connect? I am the administrator.I cannot replicate on another browser. In fact, I now cannot replicate on my Firefox browser. I can only assume that the certificate problem was taken care of by the website involved. But in case this problem returns, I wonder what server application I am to use in order to turn my (?) web service on?
Cryptic, unexplained error messages are a pet peeve of mine. It seems that Microsoft does not have a lock on such frustrating messages. -

Hello, I am getting a Kern Protection failure error message when trying to start up my Olympus DSS Player dictation software. I have been using the software without issue for years until last month. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software and don't recall installing any new software before the issue began.

You cannot update it if you can't get the latest version of iTunes. Actually, the latest version of iTunes will run in XP if you have Service Pack 2. Also, you posted in the iPad forum, and your profile shows you have an iPad, but in your post, you say it is an iPod. Is it an iPad or an iPod?

I'm using a Mac. I "upgraded" to LR5 from LR4. I do not want to be a member of the "Creative Cloud". I just want to use the software I purchased, specifically to upload to my SmugMug account. I can disable one of my MacBook's two processors using the CPUPalette application. How can I do it under control of a script?
I want to do this because the MacBook is overheating. I will soon get it repaired, but in the meantime, disabling CPU 2 is effective at preventing overheating. Sadly CPUPalette is not scriptable, and it won't remember its setting after the computer is restarted.
Would it be worth learning about the relevant Darwin API (supposing there is one) and writing a small command-line program for the job? I am an experienced developer of software using Standard C.

The last step has problem.
I can not click Options.In order to repartition the startup drive you will have to boot from your Snow Leopard DVD, select Utilities and then Disk Utility. YOU MUST ERASE YOUR DISK TO CHANGE THE PARTITION TABLE. The good news is that I see you have a Time Machine backup. Make sure that your backup is current before you erase your startup disk.
Even before doing this, save a copy of the Lion installer (it is in the Applications folder) onto an external device. Your external hard drive is a good spot; it won't interfere with your Time Machine backup. This will prevent you from having to download the installer again.
The easiest way to proceed after making sure your Time Machine backup is current, saving a copy of the Lion installer, and repartitioning your startup disk, is to reinstall Snow Leopard on your newly partitioned disk. This will take a little longer but it is simple and is fully supported by Apple. Once that is done and you are running Snow Leopard on your startup disk again, run the Lion installer from whereever you saved it, and then restore your files and settings from your Time Machine backup during the install process.
There is an unsupported procedure for making a bootable Lion DVD, but it is more complex and is not supported by Apple. If you are uncomfortable with any of this and have access to an Apple Store, make an appointment at the Genius Bar and they can help you through the process. -

Does anyone know why when streaming a movie from my iMac the screen on my tele goes grey but I still get audio. It only happens when using the DVD application on the mac. iPhoto streams fine.
You are prevented from Airplay mirroring certain things like DVD content as the material is usually protected so you get a checkerboard type display. I think there is a theoretical risk that the Airplay stream could be intercepted and the protected video copied, albeitin lower quality.
Apple may be being cautious or are required to do so with the DVD player app by movie studios/licensing authorities. It makes no sense to the average consumer who is just trying to send their purchased DVD to the TV via the computer and AppleTV.
Playback in something like VLC should work - not tried it myself but others have commented it doesn't have the restriction. -

Scanning doesn't use the document feeder
When using the scan to computer option on the printer / scanner it doesn't take the document from the feeder, instead scanning a blank image from the flatbed part. If I use the software on the PC to initiate a scan it does feed the document in, as it does when using the Copy option on the device itself.
I am having the exact same problem. I will add that scanning from the document feeder to my Mac Book works fine. The problem with the document feeder is only whenn atttempting to use the AiO software on my iPad.
