Session failed : The terminal services license is invalid

Hi,
I have one user who receive this message(session failed : The terminal services license is invalid) , all other user work ok.
When the same user try on other desktop he works fine.
I try to delete all cache, cookies on the desktop, i try the "tarantella tscal free" command but the problem is already present.
Can you help me ?
I run SGD 4.2-909 on Linux RedHat 4.

I understand the licensing model as it pertains to standard connectivity, (i.e. a wintel box using the rdp client to connect directly to the terminal server). <<
But how does the java emulation of the client work? does it also deposit data in the local windows registry regarding TS Cal licensing? Is it static to the workstation used to connect to SGD? <<Should work the same way for Windows clients; the Terminal Services CAL is stored in the local client registry; as I understand it, this is a legal requirement of the RDP source license.
For non-Windows clients, the TSCAL is stored on the server in a license pool, and can be viewed / manipulated with the tarantella tscal command. TS CAL's are allocated to this pool for the TS License service, and handed out to users as necessary. Reading ahead to the next posting, it's possible to get an expired license stuck in this pool, which can cause problems. Using the tscal command, should check to see if there's an expired license in the pool, and if so, delete it.

We have had some issues recently with specific OSX Clients accessing SGD remotely. The above message appears in a connection progress dialog box and the user is no longer able to login i have been given some information from a colleague about the tscal free command however i unsure whether or not this will resolve the issue. Does anyone have any information about this.

    We are using SGD 4.5.
On my mac pro i could not access the page it kept saying loading sgd however i got a colleague to try it with firefox, it would not work he updated firefox to the latest version and he was in. He could launch the demo apps fine. Strange though as this only seems to effect our SGD system. Should i be contacting Sun Support about this?
    Thanks for the response.

  • Terminal Services licensing firewall ports

I have been searching the internet for an informative network\firewall drawing for the Terminal Services Licensing traffic when it comes to firewall ports requirements etc
Does someone have a detailed description or a (visio) drawing showing the ports required for WTS Licensing?
We have the following Citrix based Terminal Server environment:
    - Windows 2008 R2 running XenApp6
    - Clients come from internal (LAN) and external connections (Citrix Access Gateway)
    - There is a firewall between the Citrix XenApp WTS farm and the MS Terminal Services Licensing server (Win 2008 R2)
Can someone explain how the TSCAL\RDCAL "traffic" flows and the ports required from A-Z ?
    /Tord Bergset

I believe the correct random ports used for for Windows Server 2008 are 49152-65535, not 1024-65535
I am looking for a visio or something showing this...
For Citrix solutions one have no problem finding network drawing showing firewall ports etc, but fro MS WTS licensing I jsut cannot find anything showing ports required etc
Lot of designd docs\drawings regarding RDP traffic etc, but not anything for the RDCAL\TSCAL licensing traffic

  • Generic service 'Analysis Services (TEST1)' could not be brought online (with error '1060') during an attempt to open the service. Possible causes include: the service is either not installed or the specified service name is invalid.

    Hi,
We have a cluster with 2 nodes. Everything works fine in Node1. When I try to failover TEST1 database to Node-2 it fails with this message.
Generic service 'Analysis Services (TEST1)' could not be brought online (with error '1060') during an attempt to open the service.  Possible causes include: the service is either not installed or the specified service name is invalid.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello,
The error message is pretty straight forward, it's saying either the service isn't installed or it's not installed as the same service on that node. Did you install analysis services on the second node (from the error it seems like it isn't)?

  • Sun Ray Windows Connector Terminal Services licenses issue

    Hi!
I've installed the latest Sun Ray 4 09/07 as well as the Windows Connector (srwc) recently released on a machine. I've followed the instructions given in the installation guide. But when 'uttsc' is executed I received the following error message.
"No Terminal Services licenses are available"
I have no issue in connecting to other Windows server (say windows-02) only to this particular Windows server (windows-01). Surprisingly, I have no problem 'uttsc'-ing to windows-01 using pre-existing Sun Ray 4. Any idea why and how to resolve this?
    Appreciate anyone who responds. Thanks.

What Terminal Server license model are you using? And what does Windows Terminal Server License Manger show for number of licenses in use and availble?

  • Discover Terminal Services Licensing Server

    Hi,
We need to discover terminal server in our environment. There are some clients which are already using terminal services. Whenever we enable any new server to use terminal services it didn't discover it automatically. We even didn't have sufficient information
of terminal server, IP, computer name etc.
Is there any way we can find the information of terminal server from clients already using terminal services?

You can check this from a management console but the Instructions vary depending on what version of Windows Server you are running.
You could just check the following the registry setting on a machine that is already configured...
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Terminal Services\License Servers on 2008 R2 or HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TermService\Parameters\LicenseServers\SpecifiedLicenseServers on 2012 R2

  • Session control via terminal services

I have an application running like a dream using JSP and server side session control. One paricular user has an environment where all PCs are linux based and running a terminal service from a Microsoft SBS server.
These PCs are unable to maintain session when connection to the site.
Has anywone hit this problem before, is the any setting in the Microsoft to help this?
    Thanks for your help

I have checked that cookies are enabled. I can
implement URL rewiting but I was hoping for a simple
solution without needing to change the software. As
all other users are not having a problem.Maintaining a session involves passing an identifier between the client and the server. The identifier can be maintained on the client as a cookie, or the web component can include the identifier in every URL that is returned to the client. So clearly for whatever reason this is not happening. You need to either fix your application so URL rewriting is supported or find out why cookies are not working properly for these clients.

  • Multliple Remote Desktop Sessions? Like Terminal Services in Windows?

I have been looking for the answer to this question for awhile.
Is there a way to have multiple users using any kind of remote desktop software to all run their own sessions in OSX.
Would it take apple remote desktop? or OSX Server? or a third party product
In the the Windows Server world its called Terminal Services.
As far as I can tell you can tell, you can only have one remote user session per machine that you are connecting too.
I know that you could run SSH and have remote sesisons that way, but for the use, the gui is required.
    Thanks

You can't do this - at least out of the box.
Currently there can be only one WindowServer, the app that's responsible for all User Interface activity on the system. As you've seen you can have multiple users logged in, but one one of them can have a GUI.
OSXvnc claims to be able to do this using VNC to connect to multiple 'screens', where each user is logged in via fast user switching, but I've never tried it to know how effective it is.

  • Controlling Session Id given to each new opened session on the terminal server 2008

    Hello to all
How can we configure the terminal server so that,
when the user open a new session,
they will get the next number (Session Id)?
The need is, the Session Id always go forth (and to prevent the option that a session Id which was logged off will not be given to the next user session).
Alternatively, it will be Ok with us, if session ids which were logged off, will be blocked on "busy" and the server will not give those ids to new user sessions until the next server restart.
    Thank you,
    Yuval

    Hi,
For your requirement, I've consulted with Server RDS expert, and the feedback is it is impossible currently.

  • Licensing mode for terminal services

    Hi,
This has been most likely asked here already but i just cannot find exactly what i'm looking for. OK, here's my situation:
We have a windows server 2008 cd installer. We already had it running before, but we got hit with a virus that we needed to re-install. Now, we are just getting things back to work again. However, we are encountering this message on our server.
"The licensing mode for the terminal server is not configured"
When i tried to configure the licensing, it's asking for the license code. But i'm not sure where to find the license code? is it in the CD installer?
Actually, i was not the one who installed the windows server before; i just took over when the server got hit with a virus.
Also, i'm not very sure if we really need the TS CALs. Our server has multiple users from different countries, and we access the server through remote desktop access.
Hope you can help us with this issue.
    Thank you, i appreciate it.
    Best,
    Vanessa

    Hi,
I forgot to inform that license server has actually been activated already. So i assumed we just need to configure the licensing mode. And so, from Terminal Services Configuration, i clicked "terminal services licensing mode" and i set it to "Per User". Now
the message "Licensing mode still not configured.." is now gone when i logged in to server. However, i get this warning on Terminal Services Configuration window:
"Terminal server is in Per User licensing mode, but license server does not have any Windows Server 2008 Per User TS CALs installed."
And when i checked from the TS Licensing Manager, and selected the server name, the details are:
TS CAL Version and type: Windows 2000 Server - Built-in TS Per Device CALs
    License Program: Built-in
    Total TS CALs: Unlimited
    Available: Unlimited
    Issued: 0
What does this mean? Should we set the TS licensing mode to Per Device instead of Per User?
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Vanessa

  • Terminal Service - enable the "Start the following program at logon" cause my remote printer won't redirected?

After I enable the "Start the following program at logon" on my User account windows 2003 Server R2 cause my remote printer won't redirected when the Remote User is logon to the Server, I don't know why? I checked the Terminal Services Configuration already
    and everything is fine.
And for you information, If I disable the "Start the following program at logon", the printer is redirected again, did I miss something in here?
    Thanks
    dkirwan

    Hi,
I suspect that this application conflicts with Terminal printer redirection, whether all applications using "Start the following program at logon" option have this
issue or not. You may try another application to see if the issue is gone.
If your client PC is Windows XP, you may need install the Remote Desktop Connection 7.

  • Error Creating New User Accounts when Setting Terminal Services Attribute

We have just started receiving this error when new users are being created in our domain as part of the new hire process. Does anywhere have any pointers on where to look and what to look for?
    ErrorError
com.waveset.util.WavesetException: WTSQueryUserConfig() failed - Attribute: 'Terminal Services Home Directory Drive' Error: The specified user does not exist.
Is this something that would indicate that AD isn't replicating across multiple domain servers yet, and thus when it tries to set this attibute this command isn't finding the account? If that is the case is there a way to have a retry put in?

May I ask what version of IDM you're running?
There's a known bug that relates to this functionality. A quick review shows it's a pretty close match (not 100%) to what you described.
Bug 20728: Setting AD 'Terminal Services Local Home Directory' to null in IdM results in WTSSetUserConfig error
It's fixed in 8.1.0.3(or later), 8.0.0.10(or later), or 7.1.1.14(or later).

  • Move Terminal server licenses to another server

We have one terminal server VM hosted in hyper v server. currently there is a problem with the hyper v server hdd and we might need to rebuild the whole server. We would like to setup a new terminal server on a new server. The existing terminal server is
windows server 2003. After I fresh setup the Windows server 2003 VM in a new server, how do I move the terminal server license to a new server? FYI, we would like to decommission the old terminal server. But we would like to do it in parallel as there are
many users are still accessing to the old terminal server.
    Thanks so much.
    Regards,
    Henry

    Hi Henry,
First you need to gather your licensing paperwork, authorization number(s), license number(s), etc. for your existing licenses.  This step is critical.
Next install RD Licensing on the replacement 2003 server, Activate it using Terminal Server Licensing (licmgr.exe), then install the TS CALs.  If you receive an error when installing the old TS CALs please contact the Clearinghouse and explain
to them you need to install the TS CALs on a new server because the old one is being decommissioned.
How to locate a telephone number for the Microsoft Clearinghouse
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291795
Once you have confirmed that the old TS CALs are installed on the replacement 2003 TS then make sure your 2003 TS is set to the correct Licensing mode (to match the type of TS CALs) and you have Specified the name of the new RD Licensing server.
You do this in Terminal Services Configuration (tscc.msc) on the replacement terminal server.
As an alternative you could install the existing TS CALs on a newer RD Licensing server such as Server 2008 R2, Server 2012, etc.  You still will need to have the authorization number(s), license number(s), etc. for the existing 2003 TS CALs.

  • How to report on sessions from Remote Desktop Services

I want to run a historical report for (in)active / total sessons from a group of 2008 R2 servers.  I found that I had to import the RDS MP just to even get the terminal server\(in)active sessions counters visible in the performance view, and the metrics
are being collected but I cannot figure out what object/class/counter combination to use in order to run a report from the SCOM 2012 Reporting console.  The TS 2003/2008 report templates do not work at all which were perfect from my TS 2003 farms, but
now I can't get a birds eye view of a 2008 R2 RDS farm of 100 'terminal servers'.  What gives?
    B. Wright

Unfortunately, I've been there and done that.  However not of the 2008R2 servers that are running "Remote Desktop Services" are available when I try to search for a group/objects in the chart/series.  If I point it to a group that contains the
computers in question, and use any of the "terminal services 200x" counters/performance collection rules no data shows up in the report.  It's like they aren't avaliable as Windows Computers/Servers anymore because SCOM/MS considers them as a "Remote
Desktop Services Host", and the only way I can see (in)active session information is in the performance view of that management pack's folder in the monitoring pane.
Seems to me that there is a major flaw in the RDS management pack for SCOM 2012.
