Set An Access Password on My Time Capsule to Require Password Before Granting Access to a Device?

I just purchased a 2TB Time Capsule and connected it to my Cable Modem as a bridge.  I want to prevent unauthorized devices from connecting to my network.  How can I configure the TC so it requires unknown/unauthorized devices to provide a password to access my network?
I appreciate any help/insight any of you can provide.

Then the cable modem must also be the router.. if the TC is in bridge it has no routing and no control of the network. It has to be the main router to actually do anything in the network other than exist.

Does this mean to the hard disk.. You can set a disk password.
If you mean your local network, there is no password for ethernet access.. only wireless.
Set WPA2 Personal password for wireless.
There is very limited options on the TC even in router mode.. you cannot really block access.
Also all security on the TC is illusionary since physical access to the TC requires a simple press of the reset and poof.. all passwords disappear.

Yes, you can remotely access files in the TC..
Did you read the apple instructions and do them??
    http://www.apple.com/au/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
It does depend on the main router being upnp or NAT-PMP capable.. so the best is if the TC is the main router.. otherwise you may have to manually forward the ports.

The Guest Network function of the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme cannot be enabled when the device is in Bridge Mode. Unfortunately, with another router...the Telus...upstream on your network, Bridge Mode is indicated as the correct setting for all other routers on the network.
If you can replace the Telus gateway with a simple modem (that performs no routing functions), you should be able to configure either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme....whichever is connected to the modem....to provide a Guest Network.

How I can set up the DynDns inside the Time capsule, or only with the Time capsule I have external access from a PC for ex.?

MobileMe service is finished.. to get remote access to the Mac or TC you use iCloud account.. but that is for files.. not to access web cams.
Without dyndns client in the TC, you can perhaps run dyndns on the computer or video recorder..many of these will have clients built into them.
Even better get a static Public IP from your ISP.. that is the correct professional way to do it.
Or you can use whatever broadband modem you have and remove the TC as the main router.. simply bridge it. Use your adsl router for connection. Almost all adsl have built in dyndns.
Sorry your language is very hard to follow.. and I am sure you are finding my answers similarly difficult.
Basically the TC is about the hardest device to setup because it is lacking important networking functions.
Get a vpn router and use vpn connection is far superior to any other method. But you cannot do it with TC.

  • Can i access my data on time capsule from some other network

can i access my data on time capsule from some other network that is my data at home from office over internet

There is plenty of info out there if you google..
Here is a summary I just put into another thread.
Remote access has been added back into iCloud that was in MobileMe..
Read the info on setting it up from cloud service.. BTMM.
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
If you want to do it without the cloud service, you have one major issue.. the public IP for WAN..
The internal IP of the TC.. which will default to 10.0.1.1 btw.. is irrelevant. It is the IP of the WAN which you use to access the TC over the internet. And here you have a problem.. the TC does not include dyndns service. So unless you have a static IP address from your ISP, this will cause you grief.
(If it is offered by your ISP.. get a static IP.. that eliminates all the issues.. and is far superior. Even dyndns service has issues if your public IP rotates too often. It is generally an extra cost item and requires a business account but some ISP offer it cheap or even free.. I joined an ISP that offered static ip for free because it gives me the ability to remote access my network without all the hassles you will see below.)
There are ways around it.. setting up your own domain for instance.
    http://dyn.com/support/airport-time-capsule-with-dynamic-dns/
But it is easier to simply use a different router.. almost all of them have dyndns service available.. place the TC behind the router in bridge and forward port 548 TCP to it.
This is a bit old but still relevant.
    http://gigaom.com/apple/access-your-time-capsule-over-the-internet/
Note .. there is no ftp, http, ssh (there is actually but it isn't accessible), or any other service to allow connection other than AFP.. so you must use a Mac in remote location to access the TC.
The setup for the two methods is slightly different in the TC.. in the first instance, you need to turn on WAN access via disk sharing page in the manual setup.
In the second case you do not need this.
Remember security and put strong passwords on the disk. There are still security questions about this.
If security is important.. there is a third and better (IMO) method and that is vpn.. you will need to buy a vpn router as TC also missed out on that.. establish a vpn with the main router and that will allow you access to your network.. you will also then be able to use SMB remotely not just AFP.
Also if this office is a large company they should be running a firewall, which would block your access to home. You should check your IT admin people for what is allowed.. generally the only acceptable method is vpn otherwise you can drag viruses and trojans right into the network without the firewall catching them.

  • Cannot Access Airport Disk on Time Capsule(Error Message 67)

Hi I'm having a few issues connecting to the Airport disk on my Time Capsule.
Every time I start my computer The Airport Base Station Agent says:"The Airport Disk "Nasim's Time Capsule" became available. What do you want to do? And I click "Connect with Password" I enter the correct password and I receive a message that says: "Unknown user, incorrect password, or login is disabled. Please retype the login information or contact the disk's administrator (67)."
Is this possible to fix?(I have reset it about 4 times, each time after I have set it up I try to connect ends up wit the same message)

    Welcome to the discussions!
There are 2 passwords for the Time Capsule
One is a device password, which allows access to the TC. The other password is for your wireless network.
Might you be confusing these two? If you have not setup a device password, I believe that the default is "public".
Post back if you need more info.

  • Using AirPort Time Capsule as an external drive with access to files by guest account

Is it possible to use my AirPort Time Capsule as an external drive with access to files by a guest account?
I would like to store a large number of folders containg photographs on my AirPort Time Capsule and allow anyone with a password to access the photographs - at the time of viewing the Time Capsule would be connected to the internet but I wouldn't want users to actually access anything other than the files on the Time Capsule - is this possible?  if so any help in configuring it would be really helpful.

No it is not possible.. Guest is just that.. a guest that is allowed permission to access the internet but none of the local files.
To give a person access to the TC they must have password to access your normal network..
From there it is up to you how you do this.. people cannot actually access files on your computers unless you give them share and password permissions for that.. you can even setup accounts on the TC although I recommend against it.. if you want shared photos anyway. All security on a TC is illusion.. merely pressing the reset and it is all blown away.. so if you are concerned about security don't put stuff on the TC people should not access.. or like your TM backups ensure they are encrypted.
A person can then access you TC and the photos.. but what else on the network??

Unless you can set the Time Capsule's drive to have it's ownership ignored
you won't be able to use the library on the same volume as the Time Machine backups.

  • Lost Access to Files on Time Capsule After Reset

    Hello,
We had some very nasty weather yesterday, and I sent my son to reset the modem and Time Capsule. For whatever reason, instead of simply unplugging the thing, he hit the small reset button on the back of it.
We have several folders of IMMENSELY important files on the Time Capsule we need to recover access to. It did not format, and we can see the dis space used, but no longer have access the files.
Of note is the fact that these files are not backed up as a Time Machine backup, but were drag and drop copied onto the Time Capsule hard drive through Finder and accessing the drive there. They were moved to the "Time Machine" folder, but were moved manually, not through a backup program. These are now lost somewhere on the TC Hard drive, and we cannot find them.
Before I go spend a couple of hundred dollars on data recovery services, I am hoping someone here can help me recover access to those files?
    Much Appreciated.

A reset of the TC has no effect whatsoever on files.. but it could upset the name of the TC..
Unplug the TC from the network and plug it directly by ethernet to the computer you are using.. hopefully one NOT running Mavericks.
Do a full factory reset of the TC.. when you do this the TC will appear as new wireless device and you can do the setup.. do minimal setup.. but do not connect back to the network.
Open finder and manually mount the TC disk using Go, Connect to server, and type in the following.
    AFP://10.0.1.1
Put in the password which is public.
Then see if your files are available.. if not..
As a first step I would try and see what you can access from a PC running windows.. if you have that available.
Otherwise you have no choice but to remove the TC hard disk and put it in a USB holder. Plug it directly into the computer and if the files are not available use a tool like disk warrior or data rescue 3 to see if you can recover files.
It is extremely foolish to use the TC as a file store when you have no backup.

  • Access to a external time capsule through my home time capsule

How can I access my parents timecapsule through my own at home?
I have no problems in accessing my own time capsule through for example the network at work (using Automator - and a quite old apple Airport/router).
But if I'm at home, and on the home network established through my own time cap, I can't get access to i.e. my parents time cap - again using Automator.
Also I can't get access to my own time capsule through my parents time capsule...
    WHY????
    ...and what can I do?
    The answer I get is:
The server may not be available or is not available right now. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.

    If this is still actual:
The easiest and cheapest you can do is to connect your Macbook to your amplifier. There are several options for that. If your Macbook has optical out (in the headphone/line-out connector), use that for best quality. Otherwise, use a USB DAC or a Griffin iMic. Alternatively, get a DisplayPort to HDMI converter, and use one of your amplifiers HDMI inputs (in that case all you need is a nice external display or a projector and you have yourself the beginning of a home cinema).

  • HT3728 My Time Capsule won't allow me to access my home network each day (intermittently) between about 1000-1800. My modem is working properly, and I can get on-line by hooking my computer straight to my modem, so I know it's the Time Capsule at fault. I

My Time Capsule won't allow me to access my home wireless network for several hours each day -- usually between 1000-1830 or so. My modem is working correctly and I can still get on-line by going straight from my computer (MacBook Pro) to the Ethernet port. It must be the Time Capsule -- any ideas?

    Any ideas?
    Wireless Interference
Might be caused by a cordless phone in the vicinity. To give you an example, my neighbor.....across the street...used to be able to literally crash my wireless network if he was in his front yard talking on his cordless phone.
I discovered this by accident one day after spending weeks trying figure out why my network would crash at random times.
Other possibilities include a wireless security/camera system near you
Still other things might be an amateur ham radio operator....which should not interfere....but again from experience, I know that this can occur.
Yet another possibility is another wireless network near you that is being turned on and off at random times. Some users power up their modem/router only when they want to do so and leave it off otherwise.
Some general rules to help avoid interference:
Move any cordless phones that you might have as far away as possible from the Time Capsule and/or your computer(s)
Avoid placing other electronic devices....computer, television, amplifier, satellite receiver, etc. near the Time Capsule and/or your computer(s)
Avoid metal surfaces near the Time Capsule and/or your computers
Elevate the Time Capsule as much as possible. Think of it as a water sprinkler....you want to get the room as wet as possible
Experiment with different wireless channels on the Time Capsule. To do this:
    Open AirPort Utility
    Click on the Time Capsule
    Click Edit
    Click the Wireless tab
    Click Wireless Options
Start with Channel 11 on the 2.4 GHz band and work your way down
It is unlikely that you are picking up interference on the 5 GHz band since there are.....for now at least.....far fewer networks using this frequency.

  • I have changed the name and password for my Time Capsule and now the Time Machine will not connect

    Mac Book Pro
    1TB Time Capsule.
Yesterday I changed the name and password on my time capsule and also the name and password of the wifi network as I was having problems with the speed of the internet when using Safari on any of my devices (1 Macbook pro, 1 macbook air, 27" iMac, iPhone and iPad) all other internet services were working fine (email etc.) This seems to have solved the problem.
However, since then, my time machine back ups will not reconnect and there is no option for me to reconnect to the existing back up for my macbook pro.
When I enter the time machine preferences it shows as below that there are no back ups.
Then, when I go to select a drive to use which should be the MacBook under the Backup disks the only option is for me to Remove Disk...
So, my question is, how do I reconnect to an existing Time Machine back up for my MacBook pro as I really do not want to erase and start all over again.
Warning - In my naiveté, I did click on the MacBook in 'Available Disks' but I got the impression that it was about to start a whole new back up and not work with the existing one.
(And does anybody have an inkling as to why there was a problem with Safari on all my devices? I downloaded Google Chrome and that worked fine).

    Simply reset the Time Machine.
    See A4 here http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
You can then mount the TC disk in finder after you reboot the computer.
You should be able to reselect the TC disk and then it will say it is going to start a new backup.
Ignore this.. when the TM actually loads the TC disk it will discover the existing backup and continue the backup.. but it will give no hint until it actually starts that it won't start a new backup. you just have to believe it won't.. and mostly it works..
Please also install the widget A1 so you have some idea what TM is doing.

  • Setting up a second Mac on Time Capsule

I read that you can set up a second Mac on Time Capsule, but wonder if it will still work if both machines are identified with the same name. Both my computers are named 'Noreens Computer'.  One is a MacBook and one a MacBook Pro - both have 10.7.2.  The content on each computer is slightly different. Will Time Capsule set up two different backup files or will they overwrite each other because they are identified with the same name? Or is Time Capsule reading other information to identify the machine rather than the computer name?

Go to system preferences sharing.. at the top is computer name.. and an edit button.. edit the name.
Setup of some things will definitely have to be redone.. but connection to printers is using their name not your name. They will probably work much better if everything doesn't have the same name.
