Set Arrowheads in CS5

I have a project that uses many arrows.  Is there a way, in CS5, to set the arrowhead for repeated use?  Repeatedly selecting the arrowhead, direction and head thickness is time comsuming.

If you create the arrows all at once or most of them after making your other art then you can from the flyout menu of the appearance panel uncheck the default settings of New Art Has Basic Appearance. each time there after the next art you create will have the same appearance such as an arrow head withe specific size head.
so if you make graphic styles of various arrowhead settings the last one you select will automatically be applied to the next path you create.
If you don't then check the New Art Has Basic Appearance it will drive you crazy as it will continue to apply the style until you do something to change the appearance so test his out before unchecking the option and make a good workflow.

How To Set Up AE CS5 To Work With 1.85:1 film 4k (pixels)
    John

OK - I went and open AE CS5 and it says several options so I picked new composition
    here is a screen grab.
And that took me to Compostion Settings where  I could not find 1.85:1 4k - There is one called 4k but after chosing it it appears to be acadmey 4k (I thnik 4:3 ratio)
    Here's a screen grab
I opened photoshop cs5 to start a background that has to be 1.85:1 ratio 4k. And photoshop did not have the setting  for 1.85:1 4k. Then I said to myself ah that should be in AE CS% so I opened it and no 1.85:1 4k. So after seeing that AE CS5 did not have a pre-set for 1.85:1 4k I said you know I better find out how to set that comp up in After Effects cs5. Once I set up the comp in ae cs5 I want to bring the background from photoshop cs5 into ae cs5.
So I would like to get ae cs5 this far - that is create a comp setting for 1.85:1 4k.

  • How hard is it to set up Elements/CS5 to access photo's off of portable hard drive so I can free up

I have down loaded approximately 4000 files to an external 1 terabite portable drive ( Western Digital, My Passport ) from my laptop to free up space. I would like to access the photo's for editing in both elements 11 and CS5, and Lightyear 3. I have not deleted the originals off of my laptop yet until I know it will work, or more correctly, how to make it work. When I connected the portable drive to the laptop afterwards, the downloader wanted to download the 4000+ photo's back on to my laptop. Specs- ASUS N53S, 8 mb Ram, Core i7, Windows 7, about 116 GB harddrive. Can anyone help me with the steps needed to make this work so that I can take the photo's of my laptops hard drive but still have easy access to them with the portable drive ? Thanks, Mike

Normally you can plug in the external drive and then simply drag and drop folders after clicking on the yellow pins in the Organizer left hand panel. You don’t say if you are using Organizer.
The complication is that if you are also using Lightroom 3 with the same image files, that will corrupt the file paths in the Lightroom Library. It would be easier if you are not using Organizer and restrict your file management to LR with CS5 and the PSE11 Editor set up as your external editing applications.
The safest method is probably to first select the 4000 images in LR3 and save XMP/Metadata to the files. Then move the images to My Passport and re-import into LR3. If that works satisfactorily you can delete the original folders from LR and click the button - Delete also from Disk.

  • What is the best preferrence setting for Photoshop CS5 64 Bit Extended?

I upgraded my PC a few months back and I'm currently running the CS5 suites.  A few weeks ago I started having issues with the CS5 suites freezing up and in some cases even crashing on me.  I always run Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign and bridge at the same time, as I'm constantly moving between program on any given project.  What I'd like to know, is if there's an optimum setting to use in the preferences for Photoshop 64 Bit Extended to help it run more smoothly and efficiently, without the computer or program bogging down or crashing on me.  Below is a list of the hardware I'm running, which I've been told is more than enough to run the CS5 suites.  Any information would be greatly appreciated, as I'm starting to get frustrated with the performance.
    Hardware & operating system:
    - Windows 7 service pack 3
    - EVGA X58 FTW3 motherboard
    - i7 960 4-Core CPU
    - GeForce GTX 470 Sli graphics card
    - Corsair Extreme 24 gigs ram
    - 3 TB 7200 RPM hard drive

  • Edit prefference can't be set tp Photoshop CS5

I recently upgraded from Lightroom 3 to 4.  I have Photoshop CS5 installed as well.  After upgrading to Lightroom 4 I am unable to set CS5 as the application for the edit in feature.  Photoshop elements is now the default.  How do I change this back?

Where did you choose to download the install files too?  If it is still extracting the download then the DMG file is not complete which is why you are running into this issue.  Once the download is complete the Adobe Download Assistant will automatically launch the installer to install Photoshop.  Depending on the location chosen to save the download the Adobe Download Assistant may have difficulties saving the install files.
Alternately you can also follow the directions at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/981369 to download the install files directly.

  • Available ram setting in photoshop cs5 / cs6 / cc

    hello,
i would like to know if the ram setting slider in photoshop preferences/setting is meant to be for all
the available ram in the computer or all available ram, which stays free from all other sametime running apps?
for example, if i run osx 10.8 or 10.9, i use to run ONLY photoshop and no other app besides, so the
finder would need maybe 2 or 3 GB RAM, and the rest is for photoshop.
does the ram setting count with finder ram consumption or without?
my imac has 32GB RAM - so, if i set ram to 70% (out of 32GB) in photoshop settings, the finder can use 30% of 32GB, yes?
anyway, it wont show "available ram is 32GB" in the settings, it shows less than 32GB would be available, so
is this the answer to my question?
could i set it to 80% or 90%, when i only run photoshop (cs5 / cs6 / cc) and no other app besides? (only the 10.8.5 or 10.9 finder)
or would this mean performance lags in photoshop?
    thanks!

I would go with the suggested ram settings in the memory slider. Going over can affect other programs other than the finder and in my experience, I have never seen much of a benefit.
You have 32 GB so you can give it a try and if you run Mt. Lion, look at the Activity Monitor and see how it affects the memory allocated to the system.  Look at your Page outs to Page ins. Page outs should be 20% or less of Page ins. Some prefer 5%. The less the faster your machine will perform.

  • Print setting in PS CS5

I've just upgraded to CS5 and I'm having what appears to be a problem with printing.  I open the Print Window from File\Print and then under color handling I select "Printer Manages Colors".  I then go into the Print Settings window and under Color Management I select "Color Controls".  I click the OK button and "Printer Manages Colors" under the Color Handling automatically changes back to "Photoshop Manages Colors".  I go back into print settings and the Color Management has reverted to ICM with "Off" checked an no color adjustment.  No matter what I try this keeps happening.  Has anyone experienced this, have any thoughts or ideas about it?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
    Photoshop CS5 64 bit

The monitor calibration would only affect prints indirectly - as in you edit images so they look proper on the screen but in fact the gamma is off so the images are really lighter or darker than they should be.
There's a gamma calibration test target with which you can do a quick visual check of that.  View this at 100% original size, and through the sRGB profile, and you should see even gray gradients when the monitor is performing as it should be.
Note that on this forum you have to click on the image to see it at 100% original size.
The "Photoshop Manages Color" setting also implies you have to choose a proper printer profile given the particular printer, paper, and driver requirements.  Some drivers (e.g., some HP printers) simply want to see colors in the sRGB profile for input.  For other printers you can get profiles for the printer and specific papers.
The use of "Photoshop Manages Color" also means that the printer driver has to be instructed to disable its own color management logic, so it doesn't try to transform the color further.  Apparently there has been a problem actually doing this with certain Epson printers (there were a lot of posts here about red/magenta color shifts when Photoshop CS5 was released).

  • TIP: custom arrowheads in CS5

Custom arrowheads can be added to Illustrator.
Edit the file arrowheads.ai according to the instructions in it. It can be found here (or similar on your system)
    \Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS5\Support Files\Required\Resources\en_GB
The following was made using 4 strokes, 3 of which have a my new custom arrowhead:
    Enjoy!

I love the new arrowheads interface, however:
When I create an arrowhead, then save and close the file, the next time I open it the arrowhead is now a separate (but grouped) object, and is a filled shape with no stroke. This is really annoying!

  • What is it about InDesign CS5 that someone would get this error message?

    Hi,
What is is about the .swf file that is generated from the InDesign CS5 interactive workspace that someone would get the following error message when they go to view the site I created?
"This file may contain newer information that this viewer can support. It may not open or display correctly. Adobe suggests that you upgrade to the latest versions of our Acrobat products blah blah blah."
The site doesn't seem to work for four Mac users, but works fine for at least one PC user.
I'm trying to figure out how to save the .swf file down to Flash Player 9, which I've done by exporting a .fla file, then adjusting the Publish setting in Flash CS5. But that throws a wrench into the works...all the animations go haywire by continuously looping and the scale of all the text elements on the first page is much larger than it should be.
    Thanks, Steve

this usually happens when a user moves or deletes files in the finder - a sure way to upset iTunes.
did you move or delete files in the finder ?
    I cannot locate the song.
if you let iTunes manage your library, all your content will be in <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music/iTunes/iTunes music (or media)/music. did you look there ? tried a spotlight search ?
if the files are really gone, and have been purchased from the iTunes store, see Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

  • Is there a way to transfer Aperture files to Photoshop CS5 for editing?

Is there a way to transfer Aperture files to Photoshop CS5 for editing? I recently had a crash of CS5 Bridge. It seems to have caused a problem with Aperture. So, I reinstalled both CS5 and Aperture. Before installing CS5 I uploaded NEF (Nikon RAW) files to Aperture. Now I have reinstalled CS5 I want to use it to edit the same photos from Aperture, as I know more about editing in CS5 than Aperture. I tried to export to CS5 but, Aperture would not give me  that option. At least I could not find it.

You can set an external editor in the "Aperture Preferences -> Export " settings.
    Just set this to CS5.
The resullt of your external edit will create a new version of your image.

  • What happened to the Arrowheads ?

In Illustrator CS4 you used to add Arrowheads as an effect (under the Stylize - Add Arrowheads tool), and in CS5 it's moved to the Stroke panel.
Unfortunately it appears that's not all that's changed.  It now appears to be impossible to create the kinds of arrows I used to be able to do in CS4. Looking at the image attached, you can see 3 arrows.
The bottom one looks great, it's in proportion, the thickness is about right and the tail length can be adjusted by shifting the right side point, it was created in CS4.
The one above is the same line with an Arrowhead effect, added using CS5.  I've had to reduce the stroke thickness to keep the arrowhead in the same proportion as the one below it.  Now it appears to be far too skinny.
The one above that is the same, but with the same stroke thickness as the bottom arrow.  Now the arrowhead is way too big, and way out of proportion to what it should be.
Why has this behavior changed?  The 'scale' properties should be able to solve this issue, but it scales the stroke width also, which it shouldn't do (as this will always look stupid).  Turning off "Scale strokes and effects" under transform options has (bizarrely) no effect.
It appears (outside of doing it manually) impossible to create good looking arrowheads using CS5, and I'm wondering why these changes were made?

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
But if you looked at the thread and Monika's solution then you know it is not really a problem.
But if you actually took time to read and understand the thread, you'd know that's not the case. Monika's reply was to another point in the thread, specifically dealing with "arrowheads" that can be drawn as single-stroke open paths. It does not even address the original problems of the new non-feature, clearly illustrated in the original post.

  • Change Default Soft Proof Color – Illustrator CS5.1

    Short Question:
How to change the default soft color proof setting in Illustrator CS5.1?
    Backstory:
Every time a document is opened in Illustrator CS5.1, it defaults to Working CMYK soft color proof. For those that work in web, the default soft proof color space of CMYK results in dull colors. This means that every time a new document is opened, the soft color proof settings need to be changed manually. There's got to be a way to change the default soft color proof settings in Illustrator? I know it's possible in Photoshop already.
    Many Thanks!

You could try if either a custom Workspace or Document profile does the trick:

  • InDesign CS5 XCode - DataBaseLib.dylib missing - Is this correct?

    Hi,
I just set up the CS5 SDK and started porting plugins, but I'm getting a problem building Release Builds.
DataBaseLib.dylib seems to be missing from "/build/mac/release/packagefolder/contents/macos/"
Is this intentional or do I need to download the SDK again?
It was in previous incarnations of the SDK.
If your CS5 release plug-ins are building in XCode, I'd be grateful if you could confirm that DataBaseLib.dylib should be in "/build/mac/debug/packagefolder/contents/macos/" but not in "/build/mac/release/packagefolder/contents/macos/"
I'm having the same problem with the sample plug-ins. Debug builds but Release version fails with...
    ld: file not found: @executable_path/DataBaseLib.dylib
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
So, if the file "/build/mac/release/packagefolder/contents/macos/DataBaseLib.dylib" exists in your setup, please let me know and I'll just set up everything again.
If not, and your release version builds, then any insight would be welcome.
    Thanks.
