Set CS6 Live Trace Settings to CS4 Settings

Hi everyone.
I am having a frustrating problem. When I Live Trace a hand drawn map I've made in CS4, it comes out perfectly, converting the lines I've drawn to vector perfectly, when using the default settings. However, in CS6 the default settings don't capture half of the lines and changes the way they look. I tried matching the CS4 and CS6 tracing option menus up, but there are different setting categories between the two. Can anyone help me figure out what the CS6 settings should be to match the CS4 default settings?
Your help is appreciated!
Thanks!

It totally depends on the nature of the image and on your expectations. Even with a simple image there are dozwns of possible settings combinations.
What I always do in these situations: turn on preview, adjust the settings and try to figure it out. There are no generally correct settings for this.
You have to decide: do you want it exact, but with more anchors and maybe a little sketchy lines? Or do you rather want smooth curves and sacrifice a little "exactness"? You have to decide this for every image you trace again and again.

  • Live trace settings

I have a photograph and I want an outline of the people in it, ideally with vectors. How can I do this?
If I use Object/ Live Trace/ Tracing Options, I can set the live trace to outline, but I guess their isnt enough contrast in the photo so the live trace pics up the wrong things. Can I play with these settings? Am I on the right track with live trace?
    Thanks

You don't get a whole plethora of options under "Tracing Options"?
I get a ton, primarily the first two are best to play with.
Why do you want a photograph vectorized, is another question, you said for an outline, is this for a mask?  You may want to just use the pen tool to make a crude outline (semi crude at least) and then use the smooth tool, to smooth out the jaggedness.  Play with your smooth tool options to help.

  • How to display Live Trace settings in CS3?

I'm on CS3 - I remember before having a horizontal bar across the top showing the tool properties, but I can't figure out how to show that. Particularly for Live Trace - I want to have access to the different tool options - how do I show this at the top or change the settings?

    Ah yes! thank you

  • Illustrator CS6 Live Trace negative image

    Hello,
We have recently updated our office Adobe Creative Suite, and are now using Illustrator CS6 to clean-up hand drawn sketches.  When we run any sort of trace on a simple, black and white line drawing, the trace results in a negative image:  the white background turns black, and the outline of the sketch is white.  We have tried checking the "ignore white" box and several other settings changes.  Does anyone know how to fix this, or prevent it from happening?  Initially, for our first few times using the new suite this didn't happen:

Wow, that looks strange. Could you post one of the original sketches files?

  • Single ink line =single uniform traced line in Live Trace? Nope.

I'm using AI CS5 and I'm trying unsuccessfully to get a Technical Drawing result with ONE single traced uniform-thickness line from a single scanned drawn line in a Photoshop file. I am trying to NOT get a calligraphic line that runs thin-blob-thicker-blob-thin again, then becomes two parallel hairlines, then goes back to thick-thin. It may look hand-drawn and artsy; that's fine, but it isn't what I'm hoping for. I want a single standardized 1pt path with no double (supposedly outlined) sections. That's all I can get using the furshlugginer "Technical drawing" setting. Is that normal? If so, boy, have I got a feature request for Adobe! I realize that there will be occasional corners and feet that will become traced blobs that I will need to lop off, and I can handle that, but how do I draw a single line, scan it, then, in Live trace, achieve a single uniform line, like most of the actual, real, technical drawings I have seen? Or do I have a problematic copy of CS5?

Thanks, Steve. After my frustrtion and outrage subsided I checked out a dimly-related forum topic and found it very helpful: "uniform lines in a vector image". Your point was well made, plus two more: Set the Max line width wide enough so that no blob or corner exceeds it, e.g., 30pt is around a quarter of an inch; if I set the line width max at 30 pts I'm likely to wind up with a clean, uniform 30pt line without blobs, from which I can simply assign a thinner weight, such as 1 pt. The other tip is to blur the original raster line slightly, so as to suggest a centerline, blurred at its edges; Live Trace will zero in on the phony "centerline". Is there a "use centerline" setting in Live trace? I seem to remember that there was one in Autotrace and in Streamline, but I'm unable to find one in Live Trace. Frankly, the value of the "options" presented in the Live Trace pallet isn't particularly obvious. I looked through the Illustrator Classroom in a Book, and was told to "experiment with all the options", but not how to get any particular result. In the end, the settings can be used to get the results I was looking for, but I had to do some serious digging, without much help from the documentation. I would think that getting one traced vector line from one raster line would be a natural place to start. Guess not.

  • Can I import settings from CS5's Live Trace to CS6's Image Trace?

I'm loving CS6 Illustrator, except for one thing. Image Trace. Here, Adobe seem to have taken away the two most usefull settings from Live Trace, and replaced all the presets with ones that are pretty much unusable. I almost always used either 'Comic Art' or 'Lettering' to trace hand-drawn images, but they're both gone. None of the new settings are good enough, even if I make a custom one. The main issue is that the sliders in Image Trace are for completely different things to those in Live Trace, so it's difficult to translate one set of settings into the other.
With Image Trace, I cannot get the same results as with Live Trace, and so far, have found myself having to have Illustrator CS5 open at the same time as CS6, just so I can get workable traces.
I don't know if it's possible, but is there any way to import the presets from Live Trace, or even the full tool, into CS6, to replace the new Image Trace presets?
If not, does anyone know how to make the equivelant of Comic Art  in Image Trace's new settings?
Images, to help define the problem: This is a close up of a file I was trying to trace, showing the major difference in quality between the two CS versions.
Left: CS5 - Comic Art setting.
Right: CS6 - This is a custom setting, but is the closest I have come to Comic Art thus far.
As you can see, the definition of Image Trace is far lower in quality than Live Trace, giving me one large connected blob of colour rather than the distictly separate lines produced in Live Trace.

I can't show the original as it is a HUGE file, 10000 pixels wide. I scan as high as my scanner will go. And that 10000 is shrunk down already so as not to exhaust my RAM. Below is a smaller version, but yes it is a b/w drawing but on a colour scan. It's been treated using Levels in Photoshop to remove the grey/blue colour of the paper, but nothing else.
I can see round the edges of the black in Photoshop that there are bits of colour, mainly reds/yellows. What do you think I need to do to it to help it trace better?
Actually, I'll throw in my Image Trace settings too, so people can see what settings I'm currenty trying... I got the Threshold directly from Comic Art in CS5.5.

  • Changing live trace default setting

    Hi,
I am just wondering if anyone would know how to change illustrators live trace function the from the standard default setting to one of my presets as everytime I run a script, it automatically picks the default setting.
    thanks.

Scott he is correct and even in the Illustrator Preference file there is no mention of the Live trace. It must be some where in one of application support directories or in the packages.
But I would like to suggest that caution should be used when altering the preferences as sometimes the settings are enforced this way to avoid general conflicts and close common or potential avenues of corruption.
That is you might change it and some other software you have installed when launch could read that the wrong way. There are enough times when one has the experience where you have had to trash Illustrators preferences. Inviting new ones might not be the wisest.
Although I agree overwriting the default settings might also do such a thing.
I think this is a good feature request I have tried to create new user define defaults as well and it would be great to have that ability for different work space.
You might try this Nick load your brushes and your trace settings and the go to the View Menu and save that as a New View which you should be able to load in other documents.
As long as you have save your brushes to a brush library and your trace options with its own name, it should properly set.
Or save it as a workspace might work as well?

  • Process scheduler picking up trace settings that are not currently on

I'm running a custom application engine program. I tested the program in the same instance last week with a full trace turned on. The trace was turned on under processes. I've since refreshed the database and dumped the process scheduler cache (Unix process scheduler). After the refresh, I turned off the process trace. I ran a quick test of the program to see what the trace settings are. To my disappointment the full trace is still showing at the end of my parameters list in the process monitor. I've tried forcing a trace -0, the parameters will not change. It's very, very strange. Unforuntately, I have to process a lot of data using this application engine program using CI. Is there any other area in Peoplesoft that I might be forgetting that an application engine trace can be turned on?

How have you refreshed the database ? How did you re-apply your customization after refresh ? How is defined the prcs ? Did you change the prcs configuration file to set the trace off ? Did you checked the process definition ?
    Nicolas.

  • Illustrator CS4 - Batch Live Trace all images in one directory?

    Hello everyone
I have 200 pages or so scanned at the same resolution from a notepad, which I would like to vectorize.
Since they're all pretty much similar I'd imagine the trace settings can be consistant for all of them
I'd rather not Live trace each one in illustrator, would take ages..
Is there a batch command for this or a recommended alternative method?
    Thank you!

Yes, Bridge can do it as well, but as of CS5 it ignores the "Ignore White" option, and another user was advised to use Illustrator. I see this as a bug that needs to be repaired in Bridge. Else, why have the command? There are some other bugs associated with this and other batch commands that need to be fixed up. AI doesn't record "Live Trace" button action (you have to go to the menu item.) And it ignores "Fit Artboard to Artwork Bounds" as well.
They really need to come up with an all-round universal solution to batch processing for the different products.

  • Correct Flash CS6 iOS publish settings for iPhone?

My programmer and I are trying to publish an iOS app for iPhone from Flash cs6 and are being rejected because "Your app did not run at iPhone resolution and/or 2x iPhone 3GS resolution when reviewed on iPad. The contents of your app are not displayed within the confines of the screen."
In Flash CS6 iOS publish settings there is an option to export for iPad Only, iPhone Only, and for iPad and iPhone. iTunes Connect is sending us a screenshot that shows what we see when we publish a development IPA file using the iPad and iPhone setting. But the IPA file we submitted to them was published using the iPhone Only settings which when viewed on the iPad2 shows up inside the little iPhone 1X frame and can be expanded to 2X as well. I believe this is what they are saying is not happening when they do the same.
Has anyone else who uses Flash had this issue? If so what stage size and what publish settings should be used when trying to create an iPhone only app?
    Thanks in advance, Patrick

iPhone only app should be published with stage size:
    640x960 for portrait view
    960x640 for landscape view
... if the app are going to be fullscreen.

  • Looking for "Simple Trace" Settings

This might sound a bit odd, but the "Simple Trace" settings in CS5 were perfect for tracing my artwork for a graphic novel I'm working on. I upgraded to CS6 earlier this year but due to other issues had to take a break working on the graphic novel.
I came back today and drew the source images as I had before (in Paint Tool SAI using only black pen brush for a clean line) and then exported this to a PNG file which I then imported into Illustrator. I assumed that Default in CS6 was the same as Simple Trace in CS5, but it gives far fewer details than Simple Trace does! Is there anyway I get get the Simple Trace settings back?

Honestly, I tried to do just that last year but found it a frustrating influence. Even after I turned off some of the defaults (like redrawing lines) it was still more awkward than not. I found drawing in SAI a lot easier, it gave me a shaped line and best of all, it felt fun. Drawing in Illustrator for me hasn't been that so far.
However, importing what I drew in SAI and tracing it worked well before. Once it was traced I could place exactly what colours I wanted where, and exporting this to PDF files is a breeze.
I decided to use the strong points of each application. A good third of the graphic novel's been drawn that way, and if I swapped over now it would be awkward. However, once it's done I might try drawing in Illustrator again.

  • How to set the same General settings for all users

    Hi Experts,
How can i set the same general settings for all users e.g. marking the checkbox "Display header" to true for all users? General settings are possible under User Settings Button.
    Regards,
    Arti.

    Hi Arti!
You can default user settings in a PFCG role, in the "personalization" tab.
If you have a PFCG role that is common to all your users, you can set the default values here.
However it does not prevent them to change these settings later, except if you modify the "user settings" fields properties in cProjects application.

To change your iCloud ID or password you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with your other ID.  If you need to migrate any of your daughter's iCloud data to your account, choose Keep on My iPad when prompted, then choose Merge to upload it to the new account.  If not, choose Delete from My iPad.
