Set date and time automatically keeping turning itself off?

Every time I go to the App Store I get a pop-up stating that it can't connect and that this may be caused by an incorrect date and time setting.  I go to Settings and discover that "Set Automatically" has somehow turned itself off.  I can turn it back on and then access the App Store.  Until the next time.  When the whole problem starts over.  Why won't it stay on Set Automatically?  Thanks.

Try this first. Reboot your iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that doesn't work, you can reset all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings. That will turn all of the settings back to factory defaults and you will have to enter them again. You will not lose any data.
You can also try restoring from a backup - if you have a recent backup. The backup contains the device settings and that just might work. It worked for me when I was experiencing the very same problem that you are having.

  • Set Date and Time Automatically...doesn't

We've noticed that the setting to automatically synchronize date and time to Apple's time server doesn't work if the system preference is 'locked'
In other words, if the user that's logged in currently, isn't an admin user, then the machine doesn't set the date and time automatically.
As soon as you unlock the system preference by clicking the padlock at the bottom, the date and time sync as they should.
    Anyone else noticed this?

We do want the clock correct. The issue here is that the internal clocks drift - as I understand it, this is the one of the main reasons behind using a network time server.
With the Date and time preferences set to 'Set date and time automatically', the but with the lock at the bottom corner locked- it's as though being locked is preventing the automatic date and time settings from updating.
But the preference is checked on, and so the clock should be 'resetting' itself as necessary.
To give an example- say the machine has been off for a while, and unplugged. This will cause the machine not to know what the Date and Time is. When the machine starts up, the preference should kick in, and the machine should 'Update date and time' automatically.
But it doesn't. So long as that padlock is locked, even though the preference is checked on, the machine will not alter the date and time - until the padlock is unlocked.

  • Is there a way to force time can only be set to "Set date and time automatically"?

I am using OS X 10.9 .5 , and here is what I want to do.
When you click "Open Date & Time Preference", you will find an option that states "Set date and time automatically". And of course you can chose not to do that, and adjust the time.
But can you remove that option? So your OS X is forced to chose the mode "Set date and time automatically" no matter what you do? (aka you can't adjust the time by yourself now.)
Is that possible? Is there an app that can achieve this goal or can you do that at Terminal?
    Thanks in advance.

There's a similar setting in iPhoto preferences (in iLife '08 versions and later), or in Image Capture preferences (if you're using iLife '06 or earlier). Check those settings as well.

  • How do I change the "Set Date and Time Automatically" server

Is there a way to change System Preferences/Date & Time/Date & Time/Set date and time automatically from "Apple Americas/U.S. (time.apple.com)" to another time server instead?

The menu has a drop down. But if you know the address of another time server I would think you can type it in.
Yeah, that's not really a menu, but a "combo box", which is a combination of an edit field and pop-up menu. So you can choose from existing items or just type in whatever time server you want.

When ATV is setting date and time, and hangs there, it usually indicate there isn't a network connection.  Is your router still working, is the Internet for all the other computers on the same network working?  Have you tried changing from WiFi connection to Ethernet or vice versa?

  • Iit is setting date and time but keeps going in circle . but never sets up

Try to use apple tv. But when turn it on. It is setting Date and time? But the cursur is just going around and around and nothing happen for a while. It doesnt set the time or date, so can watch apple tv.?why?

I have had this frustrating problem twice.  Combinations of resets, restores, restarts of routers etc have been generally unsuccessful.
My Apple TV2 has full internet connectivity (through a internet cable, connected to a D-Link gigabit switch, connected to a Generation 4 Apple Time Capsule, connected to a high speed Comcast ARRIS modem).
The Apple TV2 works well with AirPlay, Youtube, HD movie trailers, HomeSharing music and photos, etc, but won't connect to NetFlix, allow movie rental, or allow iTunes purchased home computer programs to display due to not being conneted to an iTunes account.
And I can't connect to the iTunes store because the "time and date cannot be set".
Note that my iMac is connected to the same gigabit switch as my Apple TV2 and it can automatically set time and date, just fine.  I tested by turning off the auto set, setting the wrong time, then turning it back on and having the system time and date properly reset... twice!
This time, my problem was solved by going into the Time Capsule, changine IPv6 setting from HOST to "Local Link".  The Apple TV2 immediately knew the time and was able to connect to the iTunes store.
I recall that last time I "fixed" this problem, I changed that same setting from Local-Link to Host.
I agree with lagoed, Apple should fix this vexing problem, the sooner the better.

  • Keychain problem and "Set date and time automatically"

Something very strange appened to me today. I spent a few hours to get it through.
All starts when I decided to open System Preferences and *set date and time manually* (I lost date and time because I left my PowerBook without its battery for an hour). At the next login, Leopard was no more able to access keychain's stored passwords, even if all items on Keychain Access were right there. Everytime I tried to read one item's password, a pop-up window reminded me that I had not the right to do it. As soon as I set back "date and time" on automatic (time.euro.apple.com - for me) all became normal (all iCal reminders appeared at on time) and all services started to get their passwords from the stored list.
Sorry for my English (I'm from Italy).
    Someone got the same issue?

That looks like the correct IP address for the Apple NTP. Not sure why your AEBS is not getting the time stamp.
Would you mind double-checking the following setting, using the AirPort Admin Utility?
AirPort Tab - Base Station Options: Logging/NTP
    - Set Date & Time Automatically: time.apple.com (checked)
Is it possible that you have UDP blocked on port 123? Is your AEBS connected to another Internet router?

  • Can't set date and time automatically thru Airport Extreme

We have an Airport Extreme that serves as the router for our home network. No computer using the Airport (wirelessly or via ethernet) can set it's date and time automatically. If I bypass the Airport and hook a computer directly to the ISP's modem via ethernet, date and time works fine. The Airport is up to date (v7.4.2) This has been a problem for quite a while now and it doesn't matter what OS is used (current is 10.6). I don't have any firewalls set up that I know of.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

+No computer using the Airport (wirelessly or via ethernet) can set it's date and time automatically.+
It's done with AirPort Utility, not your computer.
Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
Then click the Base Station tab below the icons
There is a check box +Set Time Automatically+ and choose a region and Time Zone
Click Update to save your changes

  • TS4268 I changed set date and time automatically to "no" and I was able to activate iMessage. This seems contrary to all the troubleshooting discussions I've been reading.

Is there any definitive info on this subject?

  • Set date and time automatically

This option is not functioning. If I set the clock manually to the wrong time, shut down preferences, reopen preferences, and then check this option, and shut down preferences again, the wrong time remains.

I'm having the exact same problem. I've checked my firewall settings. Off or on (with the Network Time port clear), I still have the same problem. I had read on another thread about a similar problem that it is caused by changing some widgets. No definitive fix was mentioned. I'll be very happy to find a fix for this. Having Network Time set automatically also makes sure that as soon as I'm logged in, my PPPoe is connected right away. I don't know another way to make sure it does that. I'll try anything short of reinstalling the system software.

  • Apple! Wrong time in Russia, when set up "set date and time automatically"

we do not change time anymore in summer or winter. Please fix it, cause FaceTime and Messages don't work without this option.

What you say about Send Later timestamp is correct.
When you click Send or Send Later a time is set regardless of when you actually sent the Send Later email.

  • "Set date and time automatically" not working on my new unibody macbook

my digital time display shows wrong time, 6 hours +, but my analog clock shows the right time on my System Preference window. My system recognizes the digital time. I tried manually setting but if I get the digital time right my analog is wrong. Is anyone experiencing the same problem? What can I do?

  • HT1595 Stuck on Setting Date and Time

Will not set Date and Time (just keeps trying).

I was able to get my Apple TV working again by downgrading the firmware following the instructions in this message:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20008613#20008613
In case that message disappears, here's my translation:
    1. Connect your Apple TV to your computer via USB. Don't plug in the power cable.
    2. Download the older 5.0.2 firmware from Apple here:
    5.0.2 (Apple TV 2): AppleTV2,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
    5.0.2 (Apple TV 3): AppleTV3,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
    3. Open iTunes and select the Apple TV. Hold down the option key and press the restore button at the same time.
    4. In the dialog that opens select the firmware that you downloaded.
    5. The restore process will take a few minutes. Once it's done plug your Apple TV back into your TV. If the date and time message persists just press the menu button to skip it. This got mine working again.

  • My iPad mini keeps turning itself off and then the apple logo keeps flashing constantly, i have charged it fully and restored it many times. what can i do?

My iPad mini keeps turning itself off and then the apple logo keeps flashing constantly, i have charged it fully and restored it many times. what can i do?

If you have restored to factory settings and started as new, there is nothing more that you can do on your own. Make an appointment at an Apple Store and ask them for help. You might have a hardware problem and the Apple Store techs will be able to determine that.

  • Screen keeps saying Setting date and time, tried to reset and or restart still won't reset

Screen keeps saying Setting date and time, tried to restart and reset but does not work, did follow direstions unplugging apple TV  still not resetting/restarting, any help?

Aha! A bit more searching and I found the answer that just fixed it for me.
Press Menu and the Back arrow at the same time until a broken chain icon appears on the top left of the screen.
    Let them go....
Press Menu and Right arrow (forward arrow) until a "fixed" or "whole" chain appears.
This enabled my apple tv to once again respond and get off the "setting time and date" screen.
    Hope it works for you.
