Set Default "Open" - How?

I know this is a simple question, as I have done it before. I don't know if the combination of Xmas shopping and stressed out at work has made me forget, but ...
I just upgraded to a Mac Mini Intel Core Duo from a G4 (HUGE difference in speed, btw) and transferred all my settings already. Everything works fine but I have 2 questions:
1) Every time I'm in Firefox and I use "open" or "browse" on my hard drive, it reverts back to the Documents folder and I have to re-navigate to the last place I was every time. I know there's a way to change this to something like "Last Folder Opened" but I can't find it in Finder preferences or System Preferences.
2) I shut off my computer and external hard drive every day except weekends and shut off the power at the battery backup. In my old computer I could open folders on the external drive and it would remember they were open, but on the Mini, it's not doing it - why? Is it because I'm shutting off the power completely?

i think that is an app specific thing. I notice that SOME apps will "remember" where you last made file activities and some do not and default to that "location" you are seeking to "set".

How to Set Default Open With?

Bridge keeps opening my .png screen shot files with Fireworks, I want them to open in Photoshop — CS4.
The .png file icons defaults are set to open with Ps.
Bridge> Preferences> File Type Associations don't even list .png (if that is the place to do it).
Forum search seems to be hitting on everything but what I am typing in.
Bridge Help doesn't understand what I am asking.

Same issue - when I double click a "RW2" file in Bridge my Photomatix application opens the file. Nowhere in the file associations do I see Photomatix or the "RW2" file format for that matter. I reset to default association - still no joy. The only app showing in the "Open With" pull down in Bridge is "Photomatix (default)". How so I change this default to PS4?

Set Default Opening Application for a certain type of file?

I need some help saving time! I have lots of .groovy files that my apple doesn't know how to open and i have to select a default opening application for every single file! Is there a way to do this for multiple files or for a certain file type? thanks!

Sure. Click on a file, and then go to File-Get Info (or CMD-I) In the box that pops open, choose the app you want the .groovy files to open with, and click change all. That should do it.

How to set default "opens with"

If I have MS office and Iwork installed, how do I set a default for the opens with. Right know if it open a word file, it automatically opens with MS office. But I would rather it open with Pages.

Select a Word document in the Finder and *Get Info*. Count down to the 5th disclosure triangle - the one labeled *Open With*. Select the program you want to open the file with. You may see it in the list or you may have to select Other and find the program with the file selector. Once you've done that, click on the *Change All* button. That's it.

Setting default "Open With" for files

Trying the set Photoshop CC 2014 as the default program for all PSD files. When I select Photoshop CC 2014 as the default and select change all, the default reverts back to the old Photoshop CS6 - which is still installed. Any ideas?

I vaguely remember something about this, I can't find the particulars I posted here, only a reference on my site...
Then, I wonder if they did something like adobe did, a special folder of filetype lists & they had a background App running that would over ride opening graphic files in other apps.

Setting default opening date for iCal calendar to be some future date?

Is it possible to set the default date at which an iCal calendar opens to be some specified future date?
I want to enter multiple events for a week-long program that begins on November 1, 2008, into a special iCal calendar for that program, as the dates and times for those events become known between now and then. So, each time I click on that calendar's icon, I'd like to have it open at 1 Nov 08, instead of having to step forward to that date each time I re-open the calendar.
Any way to do this?

How can ACR 5.2 be set to open RAW files as 16 Bit as default?

When I open RAW files in ACR they always open as 8 Bit. Is there any way to set ACR so that RAW files always open as 16 Bit as default? How?
Lightroom 2.2/ PS CS4

In the middle/bottom area of the Camera Raw window is a 'hyper link' type of line showing some default info. Clicking on that link brings up the Workflow Options dialog box. The 'Depth' setting should be set to 16 Bits/Channel. Then press OK to accept the changes then press Done to close the ACR Window and save the changes.

Setting and saving default opening page: how?

I've gone nuttier this time. I just installed Illustrator CS6 onto my MacBook Pro OS 10.8.2. I want to set up a default opening page but this time, it's not a clear path to do so. How do I set up an opening page with a new font, rulers, empty fill etc. as the default page without having to search for a template each time I open a new page? Where does the default page to go now? etc. I've been online and in this forum all morning but nothing has answered this (only older versions). Or, please point me to the appropriate forum. Thanks

Same place it always has been but the HD/Users/<yourname>/Library is hidden in OS 10.7 and 10.8. The path should be HD/Users/<yourname>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CSX/en_US/New Document Profiles

Process open items: how to set defaults for the additional selections

Hi FI experts,
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to set defaults for the additional selections in the processing of open items.
I am using transaction F-04 (or F-06 or F-07) to post with clearing.
When processing the open items I can use additional selection parameters. In my case I need to use the document type. I would like to save this selection as a default but this doesn't seem to be possible.
1. it is not possible to save a variant for the processing of open items
2. I can not create a variant transaction (with trx. SHD0) for F-0x since this is only possible for dialog transactions
Do you see another way to store defaults for the additional selections in open item processing?

Hi,
When you create a transaction variant from FB05, then also you will not able to default the value for additional selections variable. Hence SHD0 is not going to help.
As said above, either you can change the additional selection screen parameters, but here again you can't default the value. You can only reduce the number of entries on the screen.
Else you can create a custom transaction code by copying the standard. Even SAP recommends to create custom codes from standard tcode for clearing purposes depending on requirements.

How to set default option to open to full spread in window

I have an IDCC book where each chapter resides in its own .indd file. When I open the file, the spread is offset. It's mostly just the lower right corner of a page that is displayed. To correct this, I manually go to View and select Fit Spread in Window. That centers the spread so that I can work on it.
The problem I have is that I'm having to repeat this action with each new .indd file that I open.
Is it possible to set the default opening view to fit spread in window?

Ideally a document should open in the last view that you closed it as . Try restarting the application and try several diffrent files if you need to.

How to set a default open with, for all files

I would simply like to make all my .avi files to open with VLC, rather than Quicktime. I have done the "change default open with", but it's only for that file.
Any way to make all avi's open with VLC?

Right-click any .AVI file and select Get Info. Under the "Open with" section, select the app you want, and then press the "Change All" button.

How to set default sync calender category in Entourage 2008

I am using Entourage 2008. Syncing it with ical then sync with iphone (as iphone cannot sync directly with Entourage). Everything works fine right now except that i cannot set default calender event category on Entourage.
now, whenever i make a calender event on ical or iphone even enotourage. it default category as "none", how do i make it default to be "work" category? Now i have to go in every time to chage it, which makes a lot of trouble.

Hi,
Try this procedures.
1. Dont open your SBO program.
2. Goto C:\Program Files\SAP\SAP Business One\Conf\ folder
3. Delete file b1-local-machine.xml
4. Log to SBO program.
5. Apply all necessary authentication then select SQL_2008 then log.
6. After logging exit to SBO program.
7. Re-log again if SQL_2008 is already in default.

ViewKind Parameter Ignored in ProjectItem.Open if ProjectItem is Set to Open With Default External Editor

In my VS2010 extension, I have just encountered a situation which I can find no workaround for. As always, I went to Carlos Quintero's MZ-Tools first to see if I could find an answer. In this excellent article of his (http://www.mztools.com/articles/2007/mz2007027.aspx),
he discusses how to get "the ProjectItem in the desired view using ProjectItem.Open(viewKind), which returns an EnvDTE.Window object."
This is the behavior I have experienced until I noticed that if a user selects "Open With..." and sets a default external program to open a given item with, I can no longer programmatically open the item in the text editor (this is required
functionality for my extension, since I am not setting the Window to visible, anyway). The screenshot below illustrates my point, even though I am working with my own custom extensions.
In this case, calling ProjectItem.Open with every available ViewKind value will cause Program.cs to open in Notepad rather than the text editor. The Window returned from the Open call is always null in this case.
Is there any way I can force an item to open in the text editor, regardless what its default program/viewer is? Thanks for your help,

I don't think that is a bug but a limitation of the automation model.
As workaround, you can use the following method:
IVsUIShellOpenDocument.OpenSpecificEditor
If you want something somewhat more palatable you can use the following method:
VsShellUtilities.OpenDocumentWithSpecificEditor
Editor guids are stored in the registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0_Config\Editors, but since you are only interested in the text editor guid, you are lucky because there is already a constant defined Microsoft.VisualStudio.VSConstants.GUID_TextEditorFactory.
There is also a constant defined for the logical view: Microsoft.VisualStudio.VSConstants.LOGVIEWID.TextView_guid.
So, even if text files are set to open with Notepad, this code should open them in the text editor:
         string fullPath;
         Guid editorGuid;
         Guid logicalViewGuid;
         IVsWindowFrame windowFrame;
         fullPath = projectItem.get_FileNames(0);
         editorGuid = Microsoft.VisualStudio.VSConstants.GUID_TextEditorFactory;

How to set default view for preview?

Every time I open a PDF using Preview I have to set the view to 'thumbnails', then 'two pages up', then adjust the zoom. Complete waste of time.
Anyone know how to set defaults so that it opens in a predictable way?

I customized my Toolbar to look like the following. Click the middle button that has the 1 circled. That tells Preview to remember to display pages at actual size (100%). Every file that I open now displays at 100%.
