Set default phone number in address book

Most clients have multiple numbers. When I am driving and say to Siri "Call Linda Johnson" I would like to have a default number chosen. IPhone does not offer a default option.
If I make the first number in my contact's listing the "default" can Siri be set to use that number? Or if I call it "iPhone" will that make a number a default?  I have far too many numbers to use "favorites" and they may not be accessible by Siri." My car selects numbers from my phone but when I tell it to call it does not always take the first number from the list.
There are many postings on this subject dating to 2009 indicating customer preference for a default option. Either it is too difficult for Apple to accomplish or there is some solution Which I haven't learned. help or Ideas?

This is not a developer question and would be better posted in the Using iPhone forum.
However, that being said, why not set a few of your contacts as you suggest and see if Siri uses that number when you tell her to call that contact?

  • Set default Phone Number

Please advise if its is possible to set a default phone number for a contact with multiple contact numbers

I'm going to clarify this situation by explaining the problem experienced and outlining a possible missing feature which may be missing for the right reasons.
    1. When you click on a contact from the CONTACTS tab, you are presented with the 'Info' page for that person so that you can Call, Text, Share or Add them to favorites.
    2. When you click on the 'left' part of a contact from the RECENTS page, it will call them back on the number that they rang you from for that perticular call.
However, if you want to call them back on another number, you click on the 'right' part of their contact from the RECENTS page where you are taken to their 'Info' page.
    3. FAVORITES, i found this very confusing at first. You need to understand that this is just a link to 1 number type of that contact (e.g. iPhone, work, etc) and not to the entire contact. If you link it to 'iPhone' and change their 'iPhone' number, it will change. But if you add a new number for them, e.g. 'home' and then delete 'iPhone' it will not update. You need to change your favorites if it no longer represents their main number.
You could consider a main defaul number, so that when it comes to returning calls, it regards the number they rang from and will call your chosen main number for them but this will only complicate things for most people, and this is just as easily resolved by just clicking on the 'right' part of the recents tab where you can select a number to call them from.
    I hope this clarifys things.

  • Copy phone number from Address Book dashboard widget?

Is there any way to copy a phone number directly from the address book widget?

Generally, if iSync doesn't support the phone, then neither will bluetooth dialing. This frequently doesn't even work with phones that are supported.

  • How to set a contact's default phone number for Siri to call

    Currently using iOS 8.2:
I really enjoy using Siri to make hands-free phone calls e.g. "Call Mom."  However, many of my contacts have multiple numbers. For most of my contacts, simply saying "Call Mom" will jump me straight into a phone call to their iPhone or cell phone number; but for a few of my contacts, I'll say "Call my wife" and Siri will reply with: "which phone number should I dial: iPhone, home, work?"  I have tried re-arranging and relabeling numbers in Contacts and I've tried adding specific numbers to my "Favorites" section in the Phone app, but no dice.
Any help or ideas? There are many postings on this subject dating to 2009 indicating customer preference for a default option. Either it is too difficult for Apple to accomplish or there is some solution which I haven't learned.

  • Can I sync phone book entries of two different phones into one address book

My wife and I have two motoroal phones (different models) and one iMac at home. I have synced my phonebook entries in the address book and it works fine. Trouble started when I tried to sync my wife's phone. All my numbers and details got downloaded in her phone. creating a seperate sub directory for her didn't help.
Can someone help me solve the problem? Essentially the question is can two phones have exclusive (and independent of each other) access to the address book for syncing purposes? If yes how?
I hope my question was clear enough. Help will be really appreciated.
I use the motorola USB connection chord for the syncing.

Just set up two Groups in Address Book. One with your contacts in, and one with your wifes.
Then in iSync, click the icon for your wife's phone and choose the Address Book group you made for her, then do the same for your phone.

  • Default column width in Address Book

When I compose a new message in Mail and call up the Address Book, the first column containing the groups is always very narrow. I can widen it manually and it stays wide for the session, but the next time I start Mail, it shows up narrow again. Is there a way to set the default width of the Address Book columns?

    Greetings,
The width of columns in the Address Book pane in Mail can only be changed on a per-session basis; after you quit Mail, they will revert to their original values. There is no way to set the default width of columns for Address Book.

iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime and iMessage activation
    Symptoms
Learn to resolve issues with activating FaceTime and iMessage on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
    Resolution
iPhone automatically registers your phone number for use with FaceTime and iMessage.
To use FaceTime with your Apple ID, navigate to Settings > FaceTime and tap "Use your Apple ID for FaceTime."
To use iMessage with your Apple ID, navigate to Settings > Messages > Receive At and tap "Use your Apple ID for iMessage."
When you enable FaceTime or iMessage with an iPad or iPod touch, you need to enter a valid Apple ID and password. Other users will be able to contact you on FaceTime and iMessage using this email address. If you see "Waiting for Activation", "Activation unsuccessful", or "An error occurred during activation"
These messages occur when your iPhone is trying to activate your phone number with iMessage or FaceTime. To resolve these status messages, follow these steps. After each step, turn FaceTime and iMessage off and on again in Settings > Messages and Settings > FaceTime.
Update to the latest version of iOS.
Make sure that you have a cellular network connection with your cellular provider. You need a cellular network connection to activate iMessage and FaceTime with your iPhone phone number.
Go to www.apple.com in Safari to make sure that you have a data connection. You need a data connection to activate iMessage and FaceTime with your iPhone phone number.
Make sure that you can send and receive SMS. You need a valid SMS messaging plan to activate FaceTime and iMessage.

If "Waiting for Activation" still appears after you perform these steps, turn FaceTime and iMessage off and on in Settings > Messages and Settings > FaceTime. You may need to wait up to 24 hours to complete activation. Most attempts will take less than an hour, but some attempts may take up to 24 hours. If your issue isn't resolved after 24 hours, please contact Apple for assistance. Number of address book contacts on MacBook Air using iCloud is one less than my other iDevices using iCloud.  Is this a known bug?  I've checked for duplicates on my iDevices and I can't find any.  Additionally, I have wiped all the data from the Application Support folder of the address book and re-connected to iCloud, but it always shows 308 contacts instead of 309 found on iCloud and the rest of my devices.  Any ideas?

  • TS2795 When I set CALL FWDING  "ON" and I set the phone number and I back to CALL FWDING, the option returns to "OFF" status, why this is happening ?

    Hello,
Can someone help me to activate the Call Forwarding option on IPhone 5, OS 6.01 ??
    Currently I am trying:
    * Settings -> Phone -> Call Forwarding -> "ON" -> SET THE PHONE NUMBER ->"Call Forwarding button"
But when the screen returns to Call forwarding, the option returns to "OFF" mode.
    * I already try to call to *72 to "activate" the call forwarding option, just didn't work.
I don't know if I need to do an additional configuration, If someone has an idea, please let me know!!
    Regards
    Cami

Who is your carrier? Not all carriers support enabling and disabling call forwarding using the controls in Settings.

  • In the calendar app, is it possible to link directly to a phone number or address? This function exists in my Palm phone.

Is it possible within the native iPhone calendar app to link an appointment directly with a phone number or address or person?  This function existed in the software on my 3 previous Palm phones.

No, it isn't possible.  It would be nice but it would be very tricky to do since usually the files themselves also hold the data and can only hold it for one album at a time without changing a widely used standard for audio track tagging.  Frankly, I suspect the space savings would not be all that great.

  • ICloud keychain: can't set up phone number

When setting up my keychain protection code i've chosen "generate random code", finished all steps and now option for setting up phone number in iCloud Keychain settings isn't available (not visible in iOS and disabled on Mac). If i change protection code any other ways (4-digit number or custom) then i can set up phone number.
So why is that happening - why i can't set up validation phone number when i use random-generated security code?

Turn off iMessage, Reset your iPhone (hold down the sleep and home button, ignore the red Off slider, wait for the Apple logo, let go of the buttons), turn iMessage back on and see if it now shows your number.
If you are using a non-supported cell provider you will have to try other remedies.
