Set default search engine to yahoo UK?

Hi
Does anyone know if it's possible to set the default search results to Yahoo UK (rather than Yahoo US)?
Google does this automatically, I'm guessing based on IP address or the iPads international region setting - it appears yahoo don't do that.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

  • When ever i have set default search engine It is not constant It changes . It should Not change

    Actual :-
I have set default search engine it changes every time when i restart Firefox 9.1 .
    Expected :-
The search engine should be the same which was set previously

A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).
If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

  • I get a message asking me if I want to change my default search engine to Yahoo! Search each time I open Firefox. How do I disable this annoying message?

For the past few days, each time I open Firefox on my home computer, a popup message is briefly displayed: "Your browser's default search engine is not set to Yahoo! Search. Would you like to set it now? (Yes/No)". After perhaps 15 seconds at most, the popup disappears and my home page appears as normal. I have the Yahoo! Toolbar installed, and Yahoo! Search is the search engine there; however, the search box on the address bar (which allows me to select from several search engines) is normally set to Google. The search engine in the address bar hasn't actually been changed to Yahoo! Search without my consent yet -- I'm just annoyed at getting nagged to change search engines every time I open Firefox. How do I get the "nag" messages to shut up & leave me alone?
I would also note that this is only happening on my home computer (which runs Windows 7), not on my work computer (which runs Windows XP, and which I also normally use Firefox as my browser on, with the same Yahoo! Toolbar + Google search in the address bar setup).
I have run Threat Scans with Malwarebytes (paid version) and a Quick Scan with Avast! (free version), and neither has eliminated this "nag" message from Yahoo! Search.

You can check for recently installed suspicious or unknown extensions.

  • How do I change my default Search Engine from Yahoo to Google permanently?

Every time I restart Firefox my search engine reverts back to yahoo, how do I fix this permanently. I only want to use google to search for things it is much more efficient. Is there some firefox connection to yahoo that is causing this?

None of above worked for me.
    This did:
"In your address bar, type in: “about:config”
Inside of the filter search box, type in:
    browser.search.defaultenginename
Double click that entry (or right click and choose “Modify”) and then type in the name of the search engine you wish to have as the default search engine. It must be one that you already have installed and also make sure you type in the name correctly.
Now if you type in “Yahoo”, restart Firefox and when your browser comes back up you will see the red Yahoo “Y” and Yahoo as your default search engine."
    (as found on http://www.searchenginejournal.com/change-your-default-search-engine-in-firefox-google-chrome-ie/24378/)
Since I wanted to be rid of Yahoo and get Google back - in the last part instead of typing "Yahoo" I typed "Google".
    That's it.

i liked it better the old way. how do i change it back?

  • Firefox changed default search engine to Yahoo. How do I restore Google?

Firefox switched my default search engine on MacBookPro to Yahoo, which I dont want. How can I restore Google?

    Open Firefox Preferences:
    Ciao.

  • I have Firefox 17.0.1, by doing a system restore, I lost all my major default search engines, google, yahoo, bing, etc.; can't get them back

Firefox was working fine until I did a system restore to get rid of a DLL initialization failed error; it went back 20 days; an older version of firefox was there and it wouldn't update, then I noticed all my major search engines and defaults were gone, including google, yahoo, bing, etc. Some of the minor search engines were there. I couldn't even add them manually.
I tried using system restore again, going back like yesterday; it doesn't work. The files or something is wrong. How can I fix this to get my major search engines back, or being able to add them. In manage search engines there is a restore default box exists but it doesn't work.
I have windows xp professional. Please help, this is driving me crazy. I also tried typing a command in the run in the start menue to go into a safe mode and click on restore defaults. It also didn't work, no safe mode.

    Clarification:
I believe now you potentially lose all extensions, plug-ins when you use the new reset function, but you will let me know.
If that is the case, your find corrupt file method maybe better. However, I reviewed the two help articles and there appear to be more files than just the delete search.json file and a possible search.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder. I am confused. Then I have to find the folders. I think help articles mentioned how to find the profile containing the files, but not sure.

  • How to set default search engine in Firefox for Android?

Hi. I want to set a non-Google search engine as the default in Firefox on Android. I have installed the search engine as an add-on and it is working fine, but I would like to use it as the default search, rather than having to select it each time.
Couldn't find the answer on here or anywhere else.
Please note this only relates to Android.
    Thanks!

  • How do I set Google as the default search engine in the URL search field (now have Yahoo)?

I'd like Firefox to use Google as the default search engine for the URL search field, instead of Yahoo as I currently have. I've tried to find a place to reset this in Preferences but can't find a solution. Would be very grateful for any advice. Imagine it's simple.
NB: I'm talking of the left search field, not the right search engine one where it's easy enough to define.

  • How do I set Google as the default search engine in Firefox 5? I have tried several fixes but I keep getting a Yahoo search instead of Google.

I want to use Google as my search engine but no matter what settings I change the default search engine is always Yahoo.
Also I would like to have the feature back where when I open a new tab it shows frequently used pages that I can click on and open.

    '''Remove the Yahoo Toolbar'''
    # "Ctrl+Shift+A" (Add-ons Manager)
    # Select Puzzle piece on left-side for Extensions List
    # Find "Yahoo Toolbar" and click on "Uninstall" button
'''Then to fix the default search engine''' used at the Location Bar, change the value of '''keyword.URL''' in '''about:config''' to one of the values shown in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Location_Bar_search#Location_Bar_search_.28external_-_search_engine.29 Location Bar search] at MozillaZine.
    * Google Search (Google search results page)<br>'''http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q='''
    # type in '''about:config''' into the location bar
    # if the warning message nonsense comes up uncheck the box before dismissing the dialog message
    # '''filter on keyword'''
    # right-click on '''keyword.URL''' and choose "modify" then paste in the Google search engine string of your choice.

  • Yahoo has become my default search engine. It used to be google; I want google back as my default search engine. Can you help?

Google used to be the default search engine in my FireFox setup. Now it's Yahoo. I would like to change it back to google. Can you tell me how to revert it back to google? If so, thanks.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== Two or three days ago.

If anyone is having this issue, I had to change more than just the keyword.url.
Here are the steps I took:
    Open Firefox and type about:config
    Then I changed:
    browser.search.defaultenginename to google
    browser.search.defaulturl to www.google.com
    keyword.url right click {reset} or set = http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=
    Then I restarted Firefox.
Consider this another complaint against Yahoo's unclear messaging. I do use Yahoo for some things and I thought perhaps they were going to improve interoperability between services, I guess Microsoft is rubbing off on them.
Mozilla - If my elderly parents encountered this problem, they would not be able to solve it without assistance. Please consider adding this to tools -> options. I love them, but I don't need the exercise in patience

  • With latest download, I specifically excluded yahoo as default search engine. It loaded anyway and I can not get rid of it and restore Google as default search engine

I had Google as default search engine. Now, Yahoo shows up and even when I delete it, close firefox 8.0, restart it, Yahoo again rears its ugly head. Nothing seems to fix this. Any program I install that is tied in to Yahoo, I specifically exclude the installation of the Yahoo tool bar. How do I get rid of it once and for all?

    1. Use  free  AdwareMedic by clicking “Download ” from here
        http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php
Install , open,  and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button   to remove adware.
Once done, quit AdwareMedic by clicking AdwareMedic in the menu bar and selecting
        “Quit AdwareMedic”.
    2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn those off and relaunch Safari to test .
Turn those on one by one and test.
    3. Safari > Preferences >  Search > Search Engine :
        Select your preferred   search engine.
    4. Safari > Preferences > General > Homepage:
         Set your Homepage.
