Set doc to only popup when move mouse WAY below edge of screen?

Has someone ever come up with a way to manage the Dock?
Ideally, I'd like to set it so that it NEVER pops up unless I move my mouse WAY below the edge of the screen.
Right now, it always gets in the way of using my apps.
Or, just a specific corner to set it off?
Just some way to stop it from popping up when I'm trying to work with a Pro app, where I'm often at the edges of the screen.

On Windows XP, I have a small icon where I can pop up a screen that has all program icons I choose, arranged like I want in groups.
Leopard is not Windows, fortunately. If you want Leopard to be more like Windows, then in the end why not use Windows?
Comparisons between different OSs, to me, is usually meaningless. I use Vista and XP on PCs as well as Leopard and Tiger and Windows on my Macs.
I don't bother with comparisons.
If you want a new feature in Leopard, you can suggest it to Apple here:
https://bugreport.apple.com/
You can also search the net for various hacks to do exactly what you want to do or you can get creative and create your own hack.
I'd be very happy to kill off the doc - as it only works for so many programs before becoming cumbersome, and seems just a feature to amaze Mac neophytes with a cool effect, until they start getting annoyed with it.
As a non-neophyte who has been using computers for a very long time, including Unix mainframes, I don't see the dock as a "cool effect" and I do not find it annoying.
If you spent more time in a terminal, perhaps you would see the difference between Leopard and Windows and find some really "cool" stuff down under the hood, where we non-neophytes usually hang out.

    Hello there, peijinc.
I understand your MacBook Pro seems to be taking longer than expected when coming back from sleep. It sounds like you may be seeing the Mavericks feature called Safe Sleep. The following Knowledge Base article offers up an explanation of how that feature works:

If you feel that this period of time is greater than normal, this article offers some practical steps to troubleshoot your Mac:

Although the entire article offers relevant steps, this section may prove most useful:
If the steps above do not resolve your sleep-related issue, try these additional recommendations.

  • Set dock to only show for some hotkey or if move mouse 5" below screen?

It would be great if the dock would only show if I moved my mouse about 5 inches below the bottom of the screen. It is too easy to activate it.
Is there a way to set it to do this, or disable it unless a certain hot key is pressed?

Is there no way to do this?
I've got two monitors. If I move it the the left of the screen, it is way over on my 2nd monitor and it still gets tripped when I don't want it to.
I want to be able to disable it entirely (maybe open it with a hot key).
Or, ideally, there must be a setting somewhere to set the vertical mouse position necessary to trigger the doc. That could be made well below my monitor, so that it would only trigger if I moved my mouse way outside of the normal range of motion.
    Thanks!

  • I am trying to watch netflix and i was trying to watch you tube and they both keep freezing how do i fix it or what is causing it it will only work wheni move my mouse

i am having problems watching videos. it freezes when i watch you tube or netflix. the audio will work but the video only works if i move my mouse . how do i fix this

You are missing two plugins required to achieve your goal. Download [http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/ Adobe Shockwave for Director] and download [http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ Apple Quicktime] You need the latter plugin to support Shockwave.
Similarly, you can watch youtube in HTML5 now instead of Flash. All you need to do is to sign up to the HTML5 trial by clicking the link at the foot of this page: [http://www.youtube.com/html5 HTML5 Trial Signup] You don't have to fill in any forms.
But please check your plugins at [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugins Check] site. Some of the others might be out of date.

  • Why request "afr/column-select.cur" when move mouse?

I runed a ADF page with a ADF table component, and I notice a strange phenomenon:
When I moved mouse on the ADF table each time, it would send a reqeust "afr/column-select.cur".
I guess it is the cursor defination file for ADF table, but why send reqeusts to the server for this file each time?
    Does it affect the performance?

    Hi,
I think you should "clean-All" your project first and then rebuilt.Make sure you have not applied any clientListener on the form.
    Hope it helps.

  • How do I keep the name tags in Picasa Web Albums from appearing on the images by default? With Explorer, name tags only appear when mousing over the image, but with Firefox, all the tags appear on the picture as soon as it is loaded, which looks messy.

I use Picasa to create web albums, and I tag people who appear in the pictures. With Explorer, the name tags do not appear on the pictures until I mouse over a specific person, at which point the tag appears. The only way to "fix" this is to disable the name tags completely (or tell people to use Explorer!), but this is not an ideal solution, since I would like to be able to share albums with people's names in them.

  • My shared files are all set as read only. How do I sort this out?

I am trying to set up our iMac and MacBook so that they share files.
In System Preferences/Sharing I have set the File sharing to ON, I have selected which folders are to be shared and I have set it so that everyone can read and write the files.
In the iMac files when you check various properties NONE are set as read only, however, when the files are access from the MacBook they are all READ ONLY.
What am I doing wrong and how do I sort this out so that I can access files from either computer and amend and save them without having to change file names?
    Please help!!
    Karl

I have had similar problems and have given up trying to use the "everyone" user setting.  Instead, to give shared access to a folder I add specific users and then set their access level.  To add users to a folders sharing profile click on the [+] button at the bottom of the Users column.

If you know the size of the images, have the renderer return measuredWidth

  • Follow sprite when the mouse is down, but randomly move when mouse is up?

I have a sprite that has a Random Movement behavior.
While the mouse is down, I want it to stop this behavior and initialize a Follow Sprite behavior instead.
When the mouse is lifted, I want to stop the Follow Sprite behavior and reset/restart the Random Movement behavior.
Openspark helped me out with a different version of a very similar behavior a long while back, which worked. It switched between Random Movement and Draggable. I tried to edit the code so that it would apply to Follow Sprite instead of Draggable, but it isn't working the way I thought it would.
The order of behaviors on my sprite is as such:
    followSprite (Follow Sprite)
    moveToward (The behavior described above)
    randomMove (Random Movement)
turnTowardsMouse (sprite faces mouse when it is clicked)
Face Destination (if not facing mouse, sprite faces toward the randomized endpoints generated by randomMove)
This is the moveToward behavior - the middleman that's supposed to be swapping between the two:
    property pSprite
    property pTouching
    on beginSprite(me)
      pSprite = sprite(me.spriteNum)
    end beginSprite
    on mouseDown(me)
-- Overrule the Random Movement and Rotation behavior until the mouse
-- is released. See the on prepareFrame() handler for the effect.
      pTouching = TRUE
    end mouseDown
    on prepareFrame(me)
      if pTouching then
-- Block the event from reaching the Random Movement and Rotation
-- behavior, so that only the Draggable behavior will work.
        if the mouseDown then
          stopEvent
        else
-- The user has released the mouse.
-- Start a new movement in the Random Movement and Rotation behavior.
          pSprite.pPath = VOID
          sendSprite(pSprite, #mNewPath)
          pSprite.pRotate = VOID
          sendSprite(pSprite, #mNewRotation)
          pTouching = 0
        end if
      end if
    end prepareFrame
Can anyone help me figure this out?
If you want to imagine a visual, it's essentially a touchscreen fish tank. Fish swim around randomly, but when someone is touching the screen, they approach the point of contact (which is defined by a tiny invisible sprite centered on the cursor).
Once again, thank you so much to anyone who can help me out. This is part of a capstone undergraduate art project I am doing - and I am far more experienced in making the visuals than I am in coding. I am having to mostly tackle Lingo on my own. Any coding help I've received will be recognized (with permission) on my artist website as well as a thesis paper I am writing that will be published in May.

As first steps at troubleshooting you could try an SMC reset and a PRAM reset:
    SMC Reset
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer’s power cord and disconnect peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Reset PRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P and R.
You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
If that doesn't help, what OS are you running? Depending on the OS (Lion/Snow Leopard) will help determine the next step.
