Set doc to only popup when move mouse WAY below edge of screen?
Has someone ever come up with a way to manage the Dock?
Ideally, I'd like to set it so that it NEVER pops up unless I move my mouse WAY below the edge of the screen.
Right now, it always gets in the way of using my apps.
Or, just a specific corner to set it off?
Just some way to stop it from popping up when I'm trying to work with a Pro app, where I'm often at the edges of the screen.

Comparisons between different OSs, to me, is usually meaningless. I use Vista and XP on PCs as well as Leopard and Tiger and Windows on my Macs.

You can also search the net for various hacks to do exactly what you want to do or you can get creative and create your own hack.
I'd be very happy to kill off the doc - as it only works for so many programs before becoming cumbersome, and seems just a feature to amaze Mac neophytes with a cool effect, until they start getting annoyed with it.
As a non-neophyte who has been using computers for a very long time, including Unix mainframes, I don't see the dock as a "cool effect" and I do not find it annoying.
If you spent more time in a terminal, perhaps you would see the difference between Leopard and Windows and find some really "cool" stuff down under the hood, where we non-neophytes usually hang out.

Set dock to only show for some hotkey or if move mouse 5" below screen?
It would be great if the dock would only show if I moved my mouse about 5 inches below the bottom of the screen. It is too easy to activate it.
Is there a way to set it to do this, or disable it unless a certain hot key is pressed?Is there no way to do this?
I've got two monitors. If I move it the the left of the screen, it is way over on my 2nd monitor and it still gets tripped when I don't want it to.
I want to be able to disable it entirely (maybe open it with a hot key).
Or, ideally, there must be a setting somewhere to set the vertical mouse position necessary to trigger the doc. That could be made well below my monitor, so that it would only trigger if I moved my mouse way outside of the normal range of motion.

My toolbar is gone when you open firefox can't see tabs that are open or anything. But if you move the mouse to the top of the screen it appears but it does not show the firefox tab and now my bookmark icon is not on the toolbar but the home icon is.

Why request "afr/column-select.cur" when move mouse?
I runed a ADF page with a ADF table component, and I notice a strange phenomenon:
When I moved mouse on the ADF table each time, it would send a reqeust "afr/column-select.cur".
I guess it is the cursor defination file for ADF table, but why send reqeusts to the server for this file each time?

My shared files are all set as read only. How do I sort this out?
I am trying to set up our iMac and MacBook so that they share files.
In System Preferences/Sharing I have set the File sharing to ON, I have selected which folders are to be shared and I have set it so that everyone can read and write the files.
In the iMac files when you check various properties NONE are set as read only, however, when the files are access from the MacBook they are all READ ONLY.
What am I doing wrong and how do I sort this out so that I can access files from either computer and amend and save them without having to change file names?

KarlI have had similar problems and have given up trying to use the "everyone" user setting. Instead, to give shared access to a folder I add specific users and then set their access level. To add users to a folders sharing profile click on the [+] button at the bottom of the Users column.

Please look over Start up tones iMac Mid 2007 and later and see if the tones match what Apple states in the advice letter. If not then I'd say your next stop is an AASP or Apple Store to be professionaly diagnosed.

Follow sprite when the mouse is down, but randomly move when mouse is up?
I have a sprite that has a Random Movement behavior.
While the mouse is down, I want it to stop this behavior and initialize a Follow Sprite behavior instead.
When the mouse is lifted, I want to stop the Follow Sprite behavior and reset/restart the Random Movement behavior.
Openspark helped me out with a different version of a very similar behavior a long while back, which worked. It switched between Random Movement and Draggable. I tried to edit the code so that it would apply to Follow Sprite instead of Draggable, but it isn't working the way I thought it would.
The order of behaviors on my sprite is as such:

randomMove (Random Movement)
turnTowardsMouse (sprite faces mouse when it is clicked)

If you want to imagine a visual, it's essentially a touchscreen fish tank. Fish swim around randomly, but when someone is touching the screen, they approach the point of contact (which is defined by a tiny invisible sprite centered on the cursor).

SMC Reset
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer’s power cord and disconnect peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Reset PRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P and R.
You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
If that doesn't help, what OS are you running? Depending on the OS (Lion/Snow Leopard) will help determine the next step. -
My firefox is not loading when my mouse pointer is inactive. It is loading only if i do something with mouse pointer.
