Set Finder Layout and Size - Silly Question

Hi Guys and Happy Late Valentine's Day!
I have a really easy question regarding the size of the finder window. Every time I open a new window in the Finder, it is too small for my liking, so I have to resize it. Do you know how I can set a size for the window so that every time I open Finder, it is the size of my liking?
~Christoph

You are right, that is exactly what happens. Unfortunately, this is how Leopard works. I personally liked the pre-leopard versions of Finder windowing. Sizes, position and views stuck. I have actually never really used the Finder icon for opening a new window. I'm a big fan of keyboard commands. Alt-Tab to switch between applications, in Finder: Command-N for new window, Command-Shift-A for the Applications window, Command-Shift-H for your home folder etc. With keyboard shortcuts, the windowing behavior will work like you want it to.
There is no 'fix' for this, since this is how Finder is supposed to work. There might be a setting somewhere deep in the Finder application itself to change the default size. I don't know where it would be though.
Sorry, I can't help any further. Maybe someone else will post on my idea in the last paragraph.

  • Setting font style and size

    I have created a form in Acrobat 9 Pro with multiple text fields for which I would like to make sure only a certain font style & size is used (e.g., Arial 10). I have set this in the properties of the text box, but when I test it by cutting and pasting from a Word document (which our applicants are likely to do), it keeps the original formatting and does not follow the settings I created. Is there a way to allow the cutting and pasting, but only into the settings I've made?
    Thanks for any help!

    Probably. Try doing the same with the field that doesn't have this setting
    turned on, and you'll know for sure...

  • 2-column elastic layout and size of text/image

    Hello,
    I'm using the 2-column-elastic template of Dreamweaver CS4 and have got a few questions related to its use. As far as I understand it (I'm new to HTML, CSS, etc.), it is elastic because the dimensions of the divs are defined with the unit "em" and will resize if the user changes the text size of the browser. (Is this the best for accessibility purposes?)
    Question 1: how to make sure my page is initially 780 px wide?
    I have a banner image in the header, it has a 780-px width. Under it there is a menu made of five 156-px elements.
    I have defined the default page text size to 80 % instead of 100 %. Apparently, 780 px is equal to 61 em with these settings. Hence, I defined the width of the container to 61 em (instead of the 46 em at 100 % of the Adobe template). However, this didn't always work: depending on the browser, a thin 1-px wide line appeared to the right of the banner.
    To try to fix this, I have set a "min-width: 780px" and "width: 60em", hoping that doing so my page would have an initial width of 780 px but still resize (increase) if the text size is increased in the browser. If the text size is decreased, I keep a 780-px width. Is this the normal way to proceed? The property "min-width" returns a warning when I validate the side for browser compatibility. Same for min-height by the way (I'd like my page to be roughly 30 em high at minimum).
    Question 2: how can I make sure that my banner will expand when the text size is increased?
    When I increase the text size in the browser, the text of my page resizes and depending on the browser, the banner image will expand or not. I would like it to always resize to keep a consistent layout. How can I do this?
    The banner currently resizes with:
    - Mac OS X: Opera 9;
    - Windows XP: Safari 4beta (but the menu bar seems narrower), Firefox 3, Opera 9, IE 8.
    The image doesn't currently resize with:
    - Mac OS X: Safari 3, Netscape Navigator 9, Stainless 0.5, Camino 1.6, Firefox 3;
    - Windows XP: Netscape Navigator 9, Chrome 1, IE6 (+ other problems), IE7 (+ other problems)
    (Other problems: usual unwanted spaces between the banner, the menu and the "title". I managed to fix some of them with "display: block", but it doesn't work around the top menu.)
    I've put the page here: http://www.cerc.co.uk/CERC/demotest/template2columns.html
    If there is any problem to view it, let me know (first time I do this!).
    I would be very grateful for any comment on these!
    Emilie

    just an added note here:
    This past hour I tried to get centering of images, text and background to fit properly in both IE (5,6 and 7) and Firefox.
    Centering with a liquid layout (which I prefer due to its better "said" predictability) is an absolute pain (nothing would seem to fit); I reverted back to elastic layout because of this issue.

    Hi Alex Ice,
    Applied  notes as specified by you..
    Now, in Layout "FMLA"  put the Distribution Key as  7  ( ie. DK 7 stands for Distribution the budget as per dates of period )
    Which is available in FMBB.   ok.
    In FMBB, I have been trying to select " All " in order to distribute the all the 12 period.
    But, it takes the period of 2 and is not distributing the budget for all period.  ( Remember i selected the " Auto Release" ) .

    Is it possible that we can use SBI cheques at Delhi and HDFC banks cheque at Gujarat without having any size problem?
    We are using the same production servers.
    What are the steps that are to be used for doing the above problem?

  • What are th Formant Layout and Size... & Margin... options are for?

    Hi. Does anyone know what the items in the square box below are for, and how to enable them? They're grayed out on my RH11 system. Thx.

    Uhhhh, wanna try again?
    Looks like the image didn't quite make it. Note that you will need to use the forum web browser interface to make the image available. If you reply via email you cannot attach an image. (Well you CAN, actually, but the attachment will be stripped and not show)

  • Two layouts and screen share questions

    1) Will the contents of a pod be affected if I switch between two layouts that both contain the same pod?
    2) Will my screen share remain active in one layout if I briefly switch to a different layout without the share pod or will I need to re-initiate it?

    1. If you have the same instance of a share pod on two (or more) layouts, then the content will seamlessly transfer between layouts.
    2. When leaving a layout with an active screen share, your screen share ends. You must re-start your screen share when you come back to a share pod.

  • I am not satisfied with the font and size of print that I set. How do I change it?

    When I first set up Firefox on my desktop, I set the print size and font. I have found that it is too large and I really would like to change the font, also. I can't find a spot to do that. I might be looking right at it but don't realize it. Could you help me?

    I can't remember what I did when I set the font and size of articles that I printed from the pages on Firefox. I just know that I tried something a few months ago and have not been happy with the settings that I made. I can't find anywhere to change those settings and have tried so many things but they do not change the look of the pages I print when I click print. I tried to see if I could change the settings but all it does is change portrait or landscape and margins...nothing about fonts or sizes. I am getting so frustrated even though I love Firefox.

  • Set center and size

    Hi,
    How can I set the center and size of a map to view a group of points (like zoom to selection function).
    Thank you
    Ali

    Hi,
    you can use the concept of bounding themes. The following example uses the feature selection for theme1 and theme3 to define the center and size of your map.
    <?xml version="1.0" standalone="yes"?>
    <map_request
                 title="tilsmq202:bounding themes"
                 datasource = "tilsmenv"

                 antialiase="false"
                 mapfilename="tilsmq202"
                 format="PNG_URL">
      <bounding_themes border_margin="0.02">theme1, theme3</bounding_themes>
      <themes>
        <theme name="theme1" min_scale="5.0E7" max_scale="0.0">

  • ADF - how to  set find mode programmatically

    I have implemented the simple ADF search form described within Jdeveloper 10g help.
    If the query returns no data, I want to set 'find mode', and return to the find form. Anyone know the relevant API calls?

    You could use a JSTL expression to do this.
    <c:if test="${empty bindings.<collection>.rangeSet}">
    <c:redirect ....
    </c:if>
    and redirect through a DataAction on which you've dragged the find operation for that collection, when then forwards via success back to the screen. The only thing to watch is you'll need to wrap that above <c:if> statement in a test so that it only ever executes if you're not in find mode

    I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way; I mean it positively, from my own experience as a user and trainer: The "finer points" of difference between software products that seem to do similar things, are not trivial! My French teacher told us that there are some important rules, like, "All nouns that end in 'e' are feminine! (pause) EXCEPT..." and then he gave some of the many common exceptions.
    X-number of years doing <whatever> usually means X-number of years doing what I've learned to do and what behaves as I've learned to expect to behave. Those solid lessons and habits sometimes interfere with seeing other possible approaches, techniques, and outcomes for the same starting points. It's terribly frustrating to find that your reliable tools aren't effective. If you ever were comfortable with driving a stick-shift car, then changed to an automatic-transmission car, think of how many times you were surprised and frustrated when you stomped your left foot onto a non-existent clutch, until you adjusted to your new environment.

    Are you familiar with the concept of the Master Page? Master pages are like templates for pages. Put stuff on the master page, then any document page based on that master page will have those elements in place (but they will not be selectable without overriding). You can hover a loaded "Place Gun" over an empty master frame and click, and the ID will automatically override that frame and put the content into it.
    Some people are comfortable thinking of a master page as a background that "shows through" on the document pages that the master is applied to.
    By default, every new document starts with two master pages, [None], which is used when you have other masters and you need a page with no master items, and A-Master which is the default name for the default master page applied to any pages when you first create the document. It starts out blank, unless you've checked the box for automatic text frame in the document setup, then it will have a single text frame that fills the are inside your margin guides. If you've selected "Facing pages" in Document setup, A-Master will actually be a two-page spread (with the spine in the center) and any automatic text frames will be "threaded" from left to right across the spread so that you can "autoflow" text. Automatic text frames are NOT required in most cases and are often a hindrance rather than a help. Page setup, including dimensions, margins, columns, and bleeds, is all together in the document setup dialog when you first create a file (you are creating the margins and columns for A-Master), but not all pages need to have the same margins or column setup (nor even the same size as of CS5), so once a document is created, you'll find margin and column adjustments under the Layout Menu. Changing the basic page size is still found under the Document Setup command in the file menu, but adjusting the size of an individual page in CS5 is done with the Page tool.
    A Book, in InDesign parlance, is a container for a group of document files that allows you to work on sections without having to scroll through one huge file and also allows for synchronizing colors, styles and even master pages across all the files in the Book. Individual documents may be included in more than one book, if you like, which allows you to multi-purpose documents.
    For some users, the idea of a book as a container for a group of files, thinking of the book as a folder, is fine. But other users may be more comfortable thinking of a book as a list of file names that should be treated as a single group, and the instructions for paginating, and applying other properties to them.
    Trust me, InDesign is a VERY complex bit of software, and you'll benefit immensely form buying Sandee's book or getting a subscription to Lynda,com.
    I like to think of InDesign as a pretty straightforward software application, and that its sheer number - several hundred - of specialized "core" plug-in components is what makes it complicated. There's at least a bit of learning necessary to take advangage of each  of these "building blocks."
    Please keep returning with your questions as you progress.

  • Setting up, populating and printing a fixed layout sheet from the prowser

    HI Gentlemen:
    Can you help me in my problem? Given a fixed, customer-defined form layout with boilerplate text intermixed with variables, I have to generate it, populate it from my relational Oracle tables and print it locally on the customer's printer. Every component is precisely positioned with font type, size and color prescribed as well. I have never had this kind of task, which resembles to an Oracle Report definition. Please say where can I find further instructions and probably a working example.

    The steps for creation of an AcroForm are as follows:
    1) Install Adobe Acrobat at your workstation. A new menu call "Adobe PDF" will appear in MS Word/Excel/Powerpoint. Use Word/Excel to design your layout and print it to PDF using the menu item "Adobe PDF->Convert to Adobe PDF";
    2) Open the generated PDF document in Adobe Acrobat and add the necessary form fields, buttons, etc. Read the topic "Forms" in the Acrobat's help first. (N.B. Do not use the Adobe LifeCylcle Designer as it will create not an AcroForm but another type of form, use the menu item "Forms->Add or Edit Fields ..." instead);
    3) Use the Adobe FDF Toolkit in a servlet to create a FDF response in order to activate the form from a Web application. (See this simple example).
