Set firefox to back up bookmarks on exit

Firefox default behavior is to back up bookmarks the first time you run it on any given day.
I need to change this behavior to back up bookmarks on exit (I have it set to clear cache, active logins etc., it makes more sense to me to back the bookmarks up then too).
I can't find anything in the about:config that will allow me to do this.

Drag the icon into your Wind0ws startup folder or use msconfig.
Right click 'start' -> explore -> navigate to'' start menu\programs'' folder
This MS article is for Win98 but is still fairly relevant to Windows XP ''Take control of your Windows start-up''http://support.microsoft.com/kb/835638

  • Why does firefox switch back to bookmarks after I am on a web page ?

This happens every time I go from selecting a bookmark to that page. It just annoying enough for me to yank my hair out, if i had any. Thanks, Max

I have two antivirus programs on my computer. The default windows thing and MalwareBytes (which I perform a full scan with everyday) and I still have the problem.
Hate to be a "problem child" but could anyone post an answer to this problem that isn't something that is obvious that should be done like resetting firefox or check for a virus or mess with the tabs options which I have tried every combination of the options that could be tried.
I mean does anyone else anywhere have this same problem? What I don't understand is that I posted this question two days ago and it doesn't look like anyone else has asked for help with this same issue.
What I really don't understand is why I can't find out anything doing an internet search using "why does Firefox keep returning to the webpage i am currently on when i open a new webpage" and so far no one has suggested something I have already tried.
If Mozilla had some kind of phone number or email contact info then I could probably get this whole thing solved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I set Firefox as default browser, and now IE is gone. How do I get it back?

I downloaded the current version of Foxfire and set it as my default browser. I need to apply for work and many companies only support IE. I clicked on IE and only Foxfire opens on that icon. I can't find my IE, my bookmarks there are gone and I can't apply for the jobs! I took Firefox off as default browser, but it didn't bring back the IE. I am very unhappy at this point and need help!
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== when I set Firefox as my default browser

After a lot of messing around with settings, and different windows, I found that it's only the desktop icons that are defaulting to open the Firefox browser. If you go to your program list, and open IE there, it works and all the bookmark info is still there.

  • How often does Firefox Sync back-up data? I see there is no preference selection allowing you to change the pre-set frequency (whatever that interval may be).

How often does Firefox Sync back-up data? I see there is no preference selection allowing you to change the pre-set frequency (whatever that interval may be).

However, the sync action only triggers every 60-minute and there is no user-configurable option provided. Although one can put a Sync icon onto the toolbar for easier access, it is still far from practical needs.
To unlock this limitation, do the following:
    1) Type “about:config” at the address bar
    2) Search for “services.sync.syncInterval”
    3) Change the value from 3600000 (milliseconds = 3600 seconds = 60 minutes) to any value (in millisecond) of your choice
    4) Close and restart Firefox
The Sync action will now trigger at the interval you just set.

  • I have been infected by trove adware, I was able to remove it, but I couldn't get default setting of safari and keeping bookmarks, saved passwords, ..etc

I have been infected by trove adware, I was able to remove it, but I couldn't get default setting of safari and keeping bookmarks, saved passwords, ..etc

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "Trovi," "Conduit," or "SearchProtect" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove these files in the same way:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/searchplugins/MyBrand.xml
    ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/External Extensions/fjadmdmahkpbhgbmmkiiaanlnlekelmn.json
    ~/Library/Application Support/Mozilla/Extensions/{ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}/[email protected]
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
"SearchProtect" may be distributed along with two other applications: "MacKeeper," which is a scam, and "ZipCloud," which, if not actually a scam, has a dubious reputation. Ask if you need instructions to remove those items.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • So confused about backing up bookmarks

I lost all my bookmarks when my computer crashed. I thought they would have been on my backup drive, but they were not.
Some people say export to a htlm file, then put in documents, then when you backup, they will be there.
'Then I have heard about backing them up to a json file. i tried that and it wouldn't open up from my desktop.
So i don't know what to do. I cannot afford to lose them again. I am slowly building them back up, but had a lot of medical sites on there.
What is the best way and safest way.
    I have windows 8.
    Thanks.

If you use the above mentioned method and set the browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML to true then Firefox will create an automatic HTML backup each time you close Firefox in addition to the JSON backup that is created once each day when you start Firefox.
So this HTML back up always has the latest changes and you do not need to create one yourself.<br />
This HTML backup is created by default in the Firefox profile folder as bookmarks.html, but you can specify its name and location via the browser.bookmarks.file pref.
This browser.bookmarks.file pref doesn't exist by default and thus needs to be created as a new Boolean pref via the right-click context menu of the <b>about:config</b> page (right-click: New > String).
You can enter a normal file path like C:\<backup directory>\bookmarks.html and Firefox will automatically escape (double the backslashes) for you when saving the pref to prefs.js.<br />
If you are OK with leaving the file in the Firefox profile folder then you can omit this step.

  • New firefox installed - didn't give me the option of not installing it before telling me that (essential to me) add-ons were incompatible. How can I get the old firefox version back?

I would not have installed the new firefox if I had known in advance that two of my essential add-ons would no longer work. Now I want the old firefox version back so I can continue to function until the add-ons are updated. Suggestion: when you notify user that add-ons are incompatible, give the option of reverting to an earlier firefox version.

Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"
If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''browser.tabs.warnOnClose''', if its value is set to '''false''', double-click on it to change its value to '''true'''
    # Repeat this for these 3 preferences '''browser.warnOnQuit''', '''browser.warnOnRestart''' and '''browser.showQuitWarning'''
If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
    # Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
    # Go to the General panel
    # Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • How can I get Firefox to keep my bookmarks (or at least folders) sorted alphabetically?

In MSIE, a registry setting can ensure that bookmarks and folders always remain in alphabetical order. In Firefox, I have to repeatedly sort each of my bookmark folders independently to maintain order. The add-on, "SortPlaces", which was recommended in answer to similar questions, has been "removed by its author".
To add insult to injury, after getting up my courage to try out Firefox Sync after years of good results using XMarks, I found the order of my bookmarks completely bollixed on the two PCs which I attempted to sync using Firefox sync. The bookmark folders, which were previously in a single alphabetized list, are now split into two lists without any apparent rhyme or reason. I have not foun any way to combine them again, short of wiping them out completely and restoring them from XMarks.
    How can I:
    1. Repair the schism in my bookmark list?
    2. Ensure that my bookmarks remain alphabetized, without repeated manual intervention?

I had disabled Xmarks auto-synchronization when I turned on Firefox Sync, so I don't understand why they should interfere with each other. While seeking answers to these questions, I found other (more serious) horror stories about Firefox Sync Although Firefox Sync offers additional features, like synchronizing Add-ons and settings, I find Xmarks both faster and more flexible for my purposes. In particular, Xmarks bailed me out here by providing a whole history of bookmark archives, from which I was able to restore them.
Many thanks for the link to Auto-Sort Bookmarks! It looks like just what I need!

  • With firefox, how do I bookmark a new page into folder contained in From Internet Explorer?

i imported IE favorites into firefox bookmarks. my IE favorites contained many folders with different categoties of information......eg., folders for car repair, investments, etc. now that i am using firefox, how do i
bookmark a new page into one of the existing IE favorite folders? I have tried every option I could think of using the options shown when i click bookmark this page.......i am getting as far as FROM INTERNET EXPLORER, but i can't seem to find a way to reach one of the sub-folders within the FROM INTERNET EXPLORER folder? also, nothing is happening when i click on the star symbol to the right of the address space?

thanks for the suggestion....sounds good to Old Goofy! Before your response was received, I continued to fiddle with the popup box that appears when you click the "bookmark this page". in my fiddling, i noticed that at least once, a litlle small solid triangle appeared just before From IE....I clicked on that little triangle and voila, there were all my sub-folders under the main IE folder!!! Nowhere in all the old posted Firefox support had I seen I clear illustration of doing this......probably I missed it or I'm just a dumbie?
Meanwhile, if anyone is having all kinds of strange problems with computer, and no browsers including IE, with the exception of Firefox, are working properly, if you have Norton Security on your computer and it al;so is not working properly, UNINSTALL NORTON!!!!!!!!!!! That was my situation, to the extent HP free support was going to help me wipe the drive and try to put the computer back "as new", but using a different security program!!!!!

  • Firefox unable to connect: bookmarked or previously visited websites connect, and some others, but new links or even pasted or typed in addresses don't, mac os10.5

For some reason, since this morning, any bookmarked or previously visited website works, and some others But new links or even pasted or typed in addresses don't. Must.figure.this.out! Hello.
It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem is not disappears when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

  • I updated Firefox and all my bookmarks are lost; how do I restore them?

I just updated Firefox to 8.0.1., and all my bookmarks are gone. NONE of the suggested articles dealt with this: How do I restore the bookmarks? And why wasn't I asked during the update if I would like to have the bookmarks imported? Also why wasn't I warned that I would lose them all? Thank you.

Use the following to see if you have more than one profile or your lost bookmarks
    in the bookmarkbackups folder.
Type about:support into the location bar the click on "Open Containing Folder" that will take you to your current profile. The bookmarkbackups folder has 5 backups (.json files) any of which can be restored with Firefox up through restore bookmarks.
but if you created a new folder see ...next...
    =========================================================
    (continued...)
Lost passwords, bookmarks, is a profile issue. Sounds like you
created a new profile instead of using your existing profile.
Open your profile folder and go up one level to see if you have multiple profiles ...
:&nbsp; HELP (Alt+H) --> Troubleshooting information... --> "Open Containing Folder" (or type about:support into the location bar then click on "Open Containing Folder")
:note the filename, then go up one level to see if you have additional profile folders.
Check the dates of places.sqlite (new in Fx3) for update date just before you went to Fx6 Since it is updated each time you close your session that would be a good place to check.
If you find one then note its filename (the profile name is part of the filename) and then start the Firefox Profile Manager and open with that profile.
To prevent the problem in the future don't let Firefox start up for you after downloading and installing a new version. Instead exit the install at that last point, and restart Firefox in your normal manner.

  • Firefox sync is duplicating bookmarks

Firefox sync is duplicating bookmarks. Sync between two Win7 PCs.
There is no noted solution to this.

I'm having a similar issue - I'm going through a rather OCD period of re-organizing my bookmarks from delicious within Firefox, and I will edit may tags et al.
Then at random moments Sync will evidently decide it doesn't want to update the server with my most recent changes, but download the server copy back over them.
I'm see no particular rhyme or reason to it, but it's transforms what should be a rather boring task into a sisyphean labor.

  • What did Firefox do with my bookmarks?

I have Windows 8. It said I was running out of space so deleted some apps i never use. Now when firefox comes up, its just a blank page. If i try to list or show bookmarks it is blank. I did the restore and it did get bookmarks back but now when I shut down my computer and start again Firefox comes up blank again. I dont know what to do.

Are you posting from a mobile but having problems on a Desktop ?
(The question is posted in the Firefox Desktop section of the forum)
I do not use Windows 8
I know some earlier versions worked best with at least 20 to 25% freespace on the Hard Disk Drive. By about 12% disk defragmentation fails, but I have seen users struggle on to the last few megabytes before getting really messed up.
Sort out some free space on your HDD as a priority. Get advice on a Windows related forum or site. Some hints on what to look for
    * Do not use Hibernate, that uses space equivalent to the RAM size.
    * Can you delete obvious junk
    * Try to move some things at least temporarily to external storage devices
As for your bookmarks and Firefox problems
#Back up your profile to an external device or extenal storage such as a memory stick or CD that will preserve whatever bookmarks, open tabs, or Firefox autobackups of bookmarks, and other settings etc
#* You may already have a backup on your desktop fromthe lasr Reset you did
    # Try reset again it may work.
Post back with how you geton and whatyou tried.
Give some information about the disk space
    * Exactly what is the warning you get, paste it in to a reply, or attach a screenshot
** [[How do I create a screenshot of my problem?]]
    *Size of HDD
    * Freespace as both GB and % of disk
    * Amount of RAM
    * Do you have only the one HDD
    * What other storage do you have available ?
    * Whathave you tried to get the freespaceback to an acceptable level
