Set home page to be displayed on new tabs?

Is it possible to make Safari display my home page when I create a new tab (like Firefox does)? It currently displays only a blank page when I create a new tab.
Quad G5, 300Gb storage, 2.5Gb RAM   Mac OS X (10.4)

Hi Eugene
Safari does not have this feature. All new tabs opened manually start with a blank page. If you want to see this feature in Safari 3.0, which makes its debut this spring with OS X Leopard, I suggest sending Feedback to Apple.

  • How can I set a custom Home Page while ALSO having a New Tab be the default Mozilla Page?

Why is the "home Page" = to a New Tab page? Why are they linked. I want my.yahoo.com to be my Home Page (currently set properly) but my New Tab page seems to be set to "Conduit" and has a search bar. I have no idea where that came from or how it got set that way. I want to have my current Home Page but make any New Tabs be the Mozilla Default Page with a Google search bar. Is that possible? I am running on Windows XP.

  • Have recently updated firefox. Previously, opening a new tab, cursor would be in google's search field, as google was my home page; now when I open new tab, cursor appears in url bar; this is bugging me a lot. How do I fix this setting?

cursor in URL bar when opening new tab; setting for this?

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • How do I get news stories I click from my Yahoo home page to open in a new tab?

At one point, whenever I clicked on a news story on my Yahoo home page the story would open in a new tab, leaving the home page unchanged. When I updated Firefox, this feature was eliminated. Is there a way to turn it back on?

Hmm, this isn't a built-in feature of Firefox, but here are a couple possibilities:
    (1) Maybe Yahoo has a setting for this, but it is stored in a cookie and the cookie got wiped out somehow?
    (2) Maybe one of your add-ons has a setting for this, but the add-on was disabled during the update because it needs to be updated for Firefox 30?
You can check whether any of your extensions are disabled or need updating on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Command+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. The disabled ones appear toward the bottom on a gray background.
To check for extension updates, at the top above the list, click the "gear" button, then Check for Updates.
    Anything relevant there?
The "manual" methods for opening a link in a new tab are:
    * hold down the Command key while clicking the link
    * "middle-click" the link with a mouse scroll wheel
    * right-click the link > Open Link in New Tab
If command+click doesn't work, this can indicate that a script attached to the link and is overriding normal Firefox behavior.

  • How do I get Firefox to open my home page whenever I open a new tab?

I have Google as my home page. Rather than opening a new tab and getting a blank page, I'd like to open a new tab and get Google coming up. I'm fairly certain that this was possible in old Firefox, and would like to know if it is still possible and if so how!?! Thanks!

Firefox can have multiple home pages if you wish. Each home page that will open when starting Firefox is separated by the "|" character.
    See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
To have new tabs open a specific web site, add one of the following extensions:

  • I want firefox to open the home page when i open a new tab instead of a blank page.

whenever i open a new tab, it shows me a blank page. i want firefox to go to my home page as soon as i click on new tab button.

If you want to have a choice of blank or homepage in a new tab, there is a simple way around this.
Open the Customize window and put the Home button on toolbar if not already.
Use the middle-click (scroll wheel on mouse) on Home button to open your homepage in a new tab, whenever you want homepage to load in a new tab.

  • Firefox 8: home page won't display, cannot enable tabs at all on 64-bit win7, even running safe mode with all add-ons disabled

(Firefox 8) cannot display home page without explicitly typing into address bar (not at start-up and home button doesn't work either). Also, cannot see tabs at all (enabled or disabled).
    Any suggestions?????

I also have this problem and it just started in the last week or so. It seems to be dependent on my home network and the problem only exists with firefox. I have used chrome and IE8 with no issues. I can verify tomorrow that it only exists in my network but one thing I was able to test is that the problem exists even on my linux boot. I am totally dumbfounded with this problem and I can't find anything that will allow the gmail page to load. All other pages I have tried load fine, all be it a little slower than normal but they load. If anyone knows of a difference between firefox and all other browsers on how it goes through the router I would appreciate the info cause I don't know of any differences.

  • Can I specify a Web Page to open (i.e., a Home Page) when I create a new Tab?

When I create a new Tab, I get a blank page. I'd like the Tab to start-out with a Home Page that I specify - similar to the option that Firefox provides for each instance of Firefox that you start.

    Thanks,
Those "add-ons" or "extensions" are not working for me.
    Using Windows 7.
This has been going on for a while with me. 3 months ago I uninstalled FF then re-installed but it has same problems.
Found about:config but wasn't sure if there is a solution on that screen.
Uninstall again? Last time I uninstalled FF, I saved the bookmarks. But the re-install already had them in when I first opened. So I don't think i did that one correctly.

  • Why doesn't Firefox go to my Home page when I open a new tab? It used to.

It should at least be a selectable option

was there really a large selection of the population who preferred a useless blank page over the homepage they have chosen themselves??? And every solution I read suggests "middle clicking" the home button. I DON'T HAVE A MIDDLE BUTTON. Ctrl-clicking is ridiculous for something so simple, I prefer using CTRL T to open new tabs. I'm not saying it should be default but they could have at least made it an option.

  • When I click the home button firefox switches to the home page, but also opens a new tab with the firefox startup page.

This is so annoying. I wind up with a bunch of extra tabs that I have to close.

Make sure that you haven't set multiple home pages, separated by a pipe (|) symbol.

  • Every time I try to go to my home page, any web site, a "new tab" comes up and nothing happens. It's been doing this for about a month now.

I try to go into ANY website and that comes up and it never does anything. I don't know how to fix this. I can't upgrade to 6 because one of my toolbar things won't work with it, besides I just upgraded to 5. I just want to be able to go to my home page or any website without waiting or trying to do it over and over again.

    It's EXTREMELY annoying. >.>

Third-party system modifications are a common cause of instability and poor performance. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions -- they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
Reboot as usual (not in safe mode) if you haven't already done so. Launch the Terminal application, copy or drag -- do not type -- the line of text below into the window, and press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
Next, do the same thing with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|com\.vix|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
That's one line, not two. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
    Next, this command:
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
Again, one line. Finally, one more:
    ls -1A {,/}Library/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,La,Mail/B,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Se,Sta}* 2> /dev/null
Remember, this is all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer -- no typing, except your password.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • My "new tabs" and home pages have been hijacked by MSNGames, with the search window opening in Bing. Previously, my home page was Google, and the new tab blank. How do I restore this?

This started after I downloaded the latest version of Explorer. It not only affects Explorer (which I never use), but Firefox as well.

I saw that article before I posted my question. At your suggestion, I reread it and then downloaded, and ran, the 'Malwarebytes' free program listed in the article. This 'free anti-malware' program does NOT actually do any system scanning. The closest it comes to actually 'scanning' for malware is, it checks your system to see if you have a good anti-malware system running. Period. So, it told me that I have McAfee and that it is up and running, all secure (which I already knew). The only real system scanning it does is to check for registry errors, junk files, etc. Then if you click 'repair' it repairs a small percentage of them and asks you for money, if you want to repair all of them. No thanks.
I suppose I could go out there into the big wide web and start looking for other free anti-malware programs, and start running one after another. But let me ask a follow-up question: If I UNINSTALL and then REINSTALL Firefox would that solve the problem? Or is it likely that the malware will still be lurking on my system?
Has anyone out there actually been hijacked by GOODTASKSEARCH? They are apparently one of many pseudonyms of something called LIGHTSSEARCH.
Thank you very much for your time.
