Set InDesign -- by default -- not to make hyperlinks Shared Destinations?

I have a newsletter template in ID CS4 based on a template with some standing hyperlinks to my organization's web pages.
Recently, when I created a new file based on the template, my computer started bogging down looking NOT for the web page in the hyperlink, but in the copy of the InDesign file that created it. Checked the properties in Hyperlink Options, and instead of URL, the links went to a Shared Destination (a copy of the document on a shared drive, not an Internet server).  Changed the properties to link them to URLs instead, but when I opened the document again, they went back to Shared Destinations. How can I set InDesign -- by default -- not to hook hyperlinks up to Shared Destinations?  (My agency was ready to upgrade me to CS6 until it became available in the Cloud only).

Note: If a URL hyperlink isn’t working in the exported PDF, there may be a problem with the hyperlink being a “Shared Destination.” Double-click the hyperlink in the Hyperlinks panel, choose URL from the Link To menu, deselect Shared Hyperlink Destination, and click OK
But I wan to make NOT sharing hyperlinks the default

Given the bug with shared hyperlinks (see https://forums.adobe.com/message/6408902#6408902), I too would like to turn off shared hyperlink destination as the default. Anyone found a way to do this?

  • InDesign to swf--can you make hyperlinks that don't open a new window?

    I am exporting an InDesign document to swf with interactive hyperlinks placed on an existing webpage. My problem is if you click on a hyperlink a new webpage opens up. Can I make the hyperlink work so that clicking on the link does not open up a new tab or window, but changes the page within the current window?

    I have tried that too and it didn´t work out. Attribute that controls where you open your hyperlink is called Target. And InDesign doesn´t let you define it. Let´s hope some improvement with this in future...

  • Applescript hyperlink URL, not shared destination

    Hi everyone,
    i'm trying to write an applescript that will apply a hyperlink to some selected text (a product number). Where I am running into trouble is that the hyperlinks cannot be "shared destination".
    After poaching what I could from some other scripts, I have this:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS5"
        tell document 1
            set mySelection to selection
            set prodNo to contents of mySelection as string
            set prodNoURL to "http://www.webaddress.com/address/" & prodNo as string
            try
                set TheH to make hyperlink URL destination with properties {name:prodNo, destination URL:prodNoURL}
            on error
                set TheH to hyperlink URL destination prodNo
            end try
            set TheHS to make hyperlink text source with properties {source text:(item 1 of mySelection), hidden:false}
            set myHyperlink to make new hyperlink with properties {destination:TheH, source:TheHS, visible:false}
        end tell
    end tell
    end
    This works, except that the resulting hyperlinks are linking to Shared Destination, which they cannot do (I don't know why, actually; my little script is just one step in a bigger process.)
    How do I create a hyperlink that will link to URL, with the "Shared Destination" checkbox OFF:
    Thanks for your help!
    (Mac OS 10.7, ID CS5)

    Hi,
    If someone else has the same issue:
    Set the "hidden" property of a hyperlinkURLDestination to TRUE when creating a new  hyperlinkURLDestination. This can only be done when the object is created and can't be modified later ...
    var myCurrentHyperlinkURLDestination = myDoc.hyperlinkURLDestinations.add(myCurrentHyperlink, {hidden:true});

  • Make hyperlink text actual hyperlinks

    We have a couple of CSV files we use for datamerging with InDesign. Some of the text in the CSV has hyperlinks in the paragraph.
    Since InDesign does not automatically make hyperlinks in the CSV text actual hyperlinks and there is no special syntax to indicate it is a hyperlink (such as using @ for image paths).....we have decided to wrap any hyperlink text with the <link></link> tag.
    InDesign, we want to find all of these <link> tags and replace it with an actual hyperlink. The link maybe an http link, mailto link, or a tel link.
    How would I do this with InDesign scripting (prefably javascript or c#)?
    I have the following so far in C# (similiar to javascript):
    app.FindTextPreferences.FindWhat = "<link>";
    How do I replace it with a hyperlink?

    Hi,
    as you want to use the found link itsself as textsource ... have you thought of calling the command 'convert Urls to hyperlinks in the GUI'¿
    The link-tags wouldn't be needed then ...
    A script could be like this:
    app.findGrepPreferences = app.changeGrepPreferences = null;
    var doc = app.activeDocument;
    app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = '(?<=<link>)[^<link>]+(?=</link>)';
    var objs = doc.findGrep();
    l = objs.length;
    while(l--)
         var currTarget  = objs[l];
        var lnkDest = doc.hyperlinkURLDestinations.add(currTarget.texts[0].contents);
        var lnkSrc = doc.hyperlinkTextSources.add(currTarget);
        var lnk = doc.hyperlinks.add(lnkSrc, lnkDest);
        var leftIndex = currTarget.index;
        var rigthIndex = currTarget.index + objs[l].length;
        var pStory = currTarget.parentStory;
        pStory.characters.itemByRange(rigthIndex, rigthIndex+6).remove();
          pStory.characters.itemByRange(leftIndex-6, leftIndex-1).remove();
    app.findGrepPreferences = app.changeGrepPreferences = null;
    app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = '<link>|</link>';
    app.changeGrepPreferences.changeTo = '';
    doc.changeGrep();
    The commented stuff would delete the link-Tags during the repeatloop instead of the actually used second search ...
    Didn't test what'll be faster ...

  • Can you set InDesign Hyperlink default selections?

    I'm wondering if it's possible to have the 'SHARED DESTINATIONS' check box in particular deselected when creating a new Hyperlink. There are other settings that I'd like to be able to set as well, but I have a feeling it's not possible (since you have to have an actual document open with text selected to create a hyperlink, and most defaults in INDD are created with no documents open).

    Did you ever find an answer to your question?

  • Make Hyperlinks Active works on URL, not on PDF files

    When I'm working on my site and click "make hyperlinks active" to test them, the link associated with a web page at another site on the Internet works, but the hyperlinks associated with pdf files I've selected on my computer don't work. I click and nothing happens.
    When I check the files on the computer and just click on the they open fine. They won't work from iWeb, however, when I check make hyperlinks active.
    When I uploaded the site, and tried to download the pdf files by clicking on the links on my site, some worked and some didn't. Some opened rather quickly, some took forever.

    The link to a file doesn't work in the iWeb application
    Publish your site to a folder on the desktop, launch it in your browser by double clicking the index.html file and click on your PDF link to see if it directs you to its location on your hard drive.
    If it doesn't, you have not set it up correctly in iWeb.
    If you are uploading to a server other than .Mac, open an appropriate page folder on your server using your FTP application to see if the PDF or Zip file is actually there.

  • How to set InDesign CS5 as the default in the system having InDesign CS4 has the default ?

    How to set InDesign CS5 as the default .indd application when you have InDesign CS4 and CS5 installed and InDesign CS4 is the current default (InDesign CS4 was installed after CS5 installation)

    Thanks, but I already tried it at first but it is not the effective method.
    I think its because of the this reason :
    Both - InDesign CS4 and InDesign CS5 have their application/program/exe named as "indesign.exe".
    Installation of either InDesign CS4 or InDesign CS5, sets a Windows default path for the "indesign.exe". In this case, since InDesign CS4 was installed later (after InDesign CS5 was already installed), the "indesign.exe" which was directing InDesign CS5's "indesign.exe" was replaced by InDesign CS4's "indesign.exe".
    But after long google and search through regedit, I've got the solution :
    Locate HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InDesign.Document\Shell\Open\Command in regedit
    Change the value of (Default) attribute to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS5.5\InDesign.exe" "%1"     // Include the quotes

    Are you sure, Eugene? I have this option:

  • File, Send link doesn't open a new email. Using Firefox 11.0. Outlook 2010 is the Mailto default and W7 default email program. On the About:config page network.protocol-handler.external.mailto is set to regular font (not bold) "default Boolean true".

    I assume you have tried toggling the setting in Firefox between Outlook and, say, Gmail:
    orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Applications
    In the search box, type or paste '''mailto''' and pause for the list to filter.
    Change the setting and OK to save it, then return to the dialog, change back, and OK again.
    You also might want to toggle the setting at the OS level between Microsoft Outlook and the native Windows Mail client in a similar fashion. In Windows XP you could use IE's Options dialog, Programs tab, for this, but I'm not sure in Windows 7.
    Since one possibility is a problem in your Firefox settings (including the possibility of interfering add-ons), and another is a problem at the Windows level (e.g., Registry settings), it would be useful to try to identify which one it is. One quick way to distinguish is to create a new Firefox profile. It will start up with all factory settings. You can switch back to your existing profile after testing.
    First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
    After closing Firefox, start up again in the Profile Manager as described in this article: [http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles Managing profiles].
    With the new profile, can Firefox successfully create a message in Outlook?

  • Can Firefox be set to a default zoom that doesn't change back to small each time a new website is accessed? Downloaded add-on did not solve

    I have a new iMac with a large 27" monitor. I'd like to set a 225% default zoom on Firefox-- currently, each newly accessed website must be manually enlarged because the 225% size won't remain the default size for all websites; this is very frustrating. NoSquint add-on did not solve this problem for me. Am I doing something wrong?
    I'd greatly appreciate any help you could provide because I've had to switch to Safari for web browsing and I much prefer Firefox.
    Thank you

    Hi palmetto2008, <br>
    check this article: [[Font size and zoom - increase the size of web pages]]
    <br>
    Shortly, you can configure Firefox to display all text at a minimum font size. If a web page contains text that is smaller than your defined minimum size, Firefox increases the font size of the text to this minimum. To set a minimum text size:
    * On the menu bar, click on the Firefox menu and select Preferences...
    * Select the Content panel.
    * In the Fonts & Colors pane, click Advanced....
    * In the Minimum Font Size drop-down, select the minimum size in pixels in which all text must be displayed.
    <br>
    Regarding NoSquint addon, you should be able to override the default zoom options and keep your settings between Firefox restarts. <br>
    See also here: [https://urandom.ca/nosquint/help.php NoSquint Help Page]
    <br>
    Apparently, there are many addons offering your desired feature like:
    * Default FullZoom Level
    * Zoom Page
    <br>
    Hope that helped you! Please report back!
