Set Key Photo on MacBook Pro, not reflecting on devices - 10.10.3

I know this hasn't worked previously, but I was hoping for the new updates to Photos (10.10.3 update) and iOS 8.3 that the Key Photos would work better.  I've selected the Key Photo on the Events album on the MacBook, shows correctly no problem.  When syncing photos to my iPhone/iPad, the photo for the album shows as the first picture no matter what - why wouldn't it show the key photo??  I've also tried adjusting the albums on the MacBook so that my key photo is first, but still shows the "first" photo which is now 2nd in the event, even tried removing all photos from the devices and re-syncing, no luck.  Anyone have any ideas how to make key photos on the iPhone/iPad???  Any luck is much appreciated!!

How the key photos and such things are decided on the Phone or Tablet, is a matter for the app on those devices. I'd ask on your Phone or iPad forum. I would point out that while the various apps on the various devices do speak to each other, they do not have the same features.

  • Brightness keys on new MacBook Pro not working.

I just received my first Mac in the mail two days ago.  Its the 13 inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display.  I've found that the brightness keys do nothing.  The icon pops up on the screen, but the brightness does not change.  I can chnage the brightness with the slider in system settings, but the keys won't function.  This thing is essentially just out of the box, so I'm wondering if this is a known issue or if I got a lemon?  Any work arounds would be appreciated.  Thanks

    Schlombo,
I’d misinterpreted what you were after — to change the screen brightness rather than to change the keyboard brightness — so there are plenty of knuckles to go around for both of our heads. I hope that that will be the steepest part of the learning curve for you!

I have pre 08 iphotos saved on disk. When I try and open the  disk in I photo on macbook pro I get the following message Unreadable file, The following file could not be imported.(The file is in an unrecognized format)

Here's a test you can run:
1 - copy a set of photos from the disk to a folder on the desktop.
2 - download and unzip the Automator workflow Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile. You can download it from Toad's Cellar.
3 - select the files in the folder and drag and drop onto the workflow app.
4 - try to import the resulting files.

  • How do i view photos in macbook pro, and while viewing how can i delete the unwanted photos with delete button?

1 My questions are about viewing and managing photos from a folder.
    a. How do i view photos in macbook pro - i know the space bar thingy but does not help my purpose?
    b. While viewing how can i delete the unwanted photos with delete button?
    c. How can i increase the size of the photos that i am seeing in the form of icons?

double clicking in iPhoto will open the photo.
The left and right arrow key will move between photos, as well as swiping on a trackpad or Apple mouse.
See >System Preference>Trackpad or mouse  for options and tut
While selected or in the smaller icon view hitting the Delete key will delete the pic.
Command Z will undo the last action taken.
Periodically you have to empty the iPhoto trash.  iPhoto drop down menu>empty trash
Same applies for viewing pics in a Folder NOT in iphoto,  Use the up and down arrows does not work in Preview, but as you know in QuickLook (spacebar) the up and down arrows will navigate.

  • Why will macbook pro not go to sleep with Lion OS?

Why will macbook pro not go to sleep with Lion OS?

Test after each of the following steps that you haven’t already tried:
    Step 1
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Power Adapter ▹ Wake for network access: uncheck. You may need to unlock the preference pane by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your administrator password.
    Step 2
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Schedule… ▹ Start up or wake: uncheck
    Step 3
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Print & Scan ▹ Open Print Queue...
Check all printers for unfinished jobs. Deal with any you find.
    Step 4
Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse or trackball, and monitor, if applicable.
    Step 5
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Enter “powerd” (without the quotes) in the "Filter" text field. Select the powerd process and click the Quit Process button in the toobar (stop-sign icon.) In the sheet that opens, click Force Quit. You’ll be prompted for your administrator password. The process will be relaunched immediately.
    Step 6
Boot in safe mode and log in. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal. Don’t launch any applications at first. If sleep still doesn’t work properly, back up all data and reinstall the Mac OS. After that, if you still have the issue, make a “Genius” appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
If sleep now works as expected, go on to the next step.
    Step 7
Still in safe mode, launch the usual set of applications that are running when you have the problem, including your login items, one at a time, testing after each one. Some applications may not work; skip them. You might be able to identify the cause of the problem this way.
    Step 8
If sleep is still working after you’ve launched all the usual applications, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test again. If sleep still works, you’re done, at least for the moment.
If you still have the sleep issue after booting out of safe mode, post again.

I used to be able to watch net flux and hulu on my macbook pro not it the sites will not open, what is wrong?

    What happens when you try?
    Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • Is there a key on the MacBook Pro to toggle display options for a projector

I have had some difficulty getting my InFocus projector to consistently work correctly with my MacBook Pro. Is there a key on the MacBook Pro that toggles the options for projector display? There was one on my last MacBook and my previous PowerBook.
    Thanks -
    Dudley Warner

No, there is no longer a key to control external display modes (it's F7 on my 1st gen MBP, but the option was removed along with the embedded numeric keypad in the Early 2008 models). There's not a substitute keyboard shortcut (with the exception of installing a macro player like Keyboard Maestro). Your main option is System Preferences > Displays (as stated, ticking the box to show Displays in the menu bar provides a helpful shortcut).

  • The volume keys on my MacBook Pro stop working after using headphones.

The volume keys on my MacBook Pro recently stopped controling the volume after I've used headphones. I still have sound; I just can't make the volume increase or decrease. The mute, however, still works just fine. Because I have sound from the intenral speakers I know the computer doesn't think the headphones are still in the jack. A reboot fixes the problem, but as soon as I use headphones the problem starts up again. I want to fix this permanently.
I don't know if this helps but all the other keys (brightness, play/pause, etc) still work. I recently had to reset the PRAM because my computer refused to sleep when the lid was shut. I've checked system preferences and everything seems to be in order.
    Can someone please help!?

I found this advice on another thread after encountering the same problem - I did the reboot and it worked fine and dandy!
I spoke with Applecare to fix my Macbook volume. Apparently there are pins inside the speaker/headphone jack that can get jammed. We fixed mine by doing some sort of reboot:
    Turn off laptop.
Hold down the Option, Command, P, and R keys (all four at once, it's tricky!) and while holding down the four keys, turn on the computer. When you hear the second chime, release the four keys.
This re-set the sound toggle to internal speakers. Now I'm afraid to insert headphones again, but I assume this reboot will work over and over.

  • How do I set up my new Macbook Pro without using the annoying Voiceover?

How do I set up my new MacBook Pro without using the annoying Voiceover?  I cannot get it to work right; it seems to get stuck and repeats the same thing over and over.  It is driving me nuts!  Is there a way to begin the setup process without using the Voiceover system?  I am a new convert from a PC and I thought a Mac was supposed to be "intuitive!"
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Pamela

There is no good reason to register your Mac anyway.
You can opt out of the setup process and registration by pressing Command (Apple key) and the "Q" key.
The registration process requires you to divulge a lot of unnecessary information.

  • Did Apple changed the Expose & Dashboard keys in the MacBook Pro?

The new MacBook Air came with two new keys, mission control and launchpad. Did Apple changed the keys in the MacBook Pro they are selling or are they selling them with no change, because since now the dashboard is in a different place the key is useless.

No they did not, but I fell like they should replace the icons on F3 and F4 since they are so much easier to get to using gestures.

  • Early '08 midel MacBook Pro not starting

I have a late '07 - mid '08 model MacBook Pro. Last night I turned off my machine and this morning it would not start. I press the power button and I hear the Superdrive and fans start to work then it just clicks off, no image on the screen and no startup sound. The light on the front of the computer comes on and pulses about once or twice before it clicks off. I would like to know if this could be a hardware issue such as a bad RAM module, which is something I can fix myself, or if it is more likely something more serious. I live about 2 hours away from the nearest Apple Store so I would like to resolve the issue without having to make a long drive to Charlotte, NC if possible!

    newbie_mac_user,
since your original post noted that your MacBook Pro had Mac OS X 10.6.8 installed, I’d concluded that your 13-inch Early 2011 model originally came with two grey installation DVDs in the box. Some Early 2011 models originally came with Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) installed, and some originally came with Lion (Mac OS X 10.7) installed. If yours originally came with Snow Leopard, then it also originally came with the two grey installation DVDs. If yours originally came with Lion, then it originally came with no grey installation DVDs.
If yours came with grey installation DVDs, then to boot your MacBook Pro from DVD, you’ll need to insert the one labelled “Mac OS X Install DVD” into its SuperDrive, and hold down the C key as your MacBook Pro starts up until the desktop appears. (It takes longer to boot from DVD than it does to boot from the internal hard disk.) Booting from the DVD does not affect the version of OS X which is installed on your internal hard disk.
