Set Lenovo Wake On LAN BIOS Settings

According to http://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/wmi_dtdeploymentguide.pdf, under "Set a single BIOS setting on the local computer", I have to set the property "Wake on LAN” to "Disable" in the Lenovo_SetBiosSetting instance in the root\wmi WMI namepspace to disable Wake On LAN in the BIOS.
However, there is no such property in the Lenovo_SetBiosSetting instance and creating the property WakeOnLAN in the Lenovo_SetBiosSetting instance has no effect on the Wake On LAN BIOS status.
Does anyone know how to use WMI to set the Wake On LAN BIOS status for Lenovo computers? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Wee Li

  • Dv6-7014nr Does it support Wake-on-LAN, WoWLAN, or Wake on USB.?

    I am not finding Bios settings for any of these features. Inn fact the BIOS looks prettypaltry.  Am I missing a hidden menu or something or is the BIOS really that bad feature-wise?  I found the USB "allow this device to start the computer" setting in the USB device powermanagement settings but I can't select it.  Is there a way to enable that setting?

    wake-on-lan must be enabled already and no option for customers to configure in BIOS because these are consumer units and not many users use such options on this platform.
    I can see that network driver in device manager gives you option to configure Wake-on-Lan under device propertties>Advanced tab. several options such as wake-on-lan magic packet - Shutdown wake-on-lan etc...
    yes the options may be limited to driver used. if its factory image or drivers are used from hp.com; that should give you options.

  • Wake On Lan for Pavilion 500-046

    I have been using Wake On Lan on my other computers to wake up computers on my network that have been shut down using the shutdown command from Windows 7. This is a very useful feature for me and I would like to get it working on my HP Pavilion Desk Top computer with Qualcomm AR8161 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet controler. The Bios on the 500-046 has this option, and I have set it to ENABLE. I am running Windows 8.1 update on the Pavilion. I have, also, looked at other possible power settings in the device manager but I'm not having any luck getting this to work. There is absolutly no response from the Pavilion when a Wake On Lan signal is sent. A similar question was posted by me a couple of days ago with no responses. Maybe and Expert could give it a whirl. Thanks for any help.

    Hello fredkoch3,
    I have read your post on how you are having problems wake on LAN issues with your desktop computer, and I would be happy to guide you towards a resolution!
    To begin, I recommend following this thread on "Wake on LAN" (WOL) behavior in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. This should help explain how (WOL) is used for Windows 8.1 in comparison to Windows 7.
    To find out if your system can be set to Wake on Lan I suggest running a "powercfg" command on your computer. This will check the power management features available. To do this, please follow the proceeding steps below:
    Press and hold the Windows Key button and the R button simultaneously
    Type in the word cmd in the box provided
    In the Command Prompt window, please type in the command "powercfg -availablesleepstates"
    Please compare the available sleep states using the System Power States document to see if (WOL) is available.

    No.
    It is difficult to identify where the problem is then

    ... and to make matters worse, during extensive testing of this Wake on LAN issue, I set:
    Wake Up Event By: [OS]
    Resume From S3 by USB Device [Enabled]
    and my USB keyboard is also unable to wake from S3/Sleep. When Wake Up Event By: [BIOS] is set, the USB keyboard is able to wake from S3/S4/S5.
    Well mine does not wake up by keyboard, which is what I want, I need to see if keyboard with power key will work.

    Last week, I submitted a support ticket with MSI, who responded with a basic set of wake on LAN instruction. I explained that, although I have followed the instructions, it still does not work. MSI have now gone silent on me.
    I had somewhat similar experience with ASUS, but they just kept repeasting themselves, seems like language barrier or they just pretending.

  • X1 Carbon - Can't unlock Bios settings

    Hi!
    For testing purposes I've set an supervisor password and set a lock on the Bios settings. Since then I can't access the settings because I'm never asked for the supervisor password. Biometric features are enabled. So when I restart and press F1 I get into the bios without beeing asked for a password but I can't change values there.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi WhiteThinPad21, welcome to the forums,
    ensure the system is totally shut down, no restart, hybrid sleep or hibernation state and then press and hold F1 when you start the system. Enter the supervisor when required and after that you should be able to change the settings.

  • How to configure Wake On LAN to work through the Internet?

    I'm using an iOS app to wake my desktop computer. It works perfectly fine when I'm within my WiFi range. However, when I'm out of my Linksys E3000 access point, it no longer works over the Internet. So, if anyone can point me to documentation that have step by step instruction on how to configure this through the Linksys E3000 access point, I'll be grateful.

    Hi ohgosh,
    I believe your computer is already configured and has all the requirements for Wake on Lan since it works locally. To do it remotely you need to open the regular port numbers used for WOL like UDP ports 9 and 32767. Your desktop IP address must be set to static because that's what you need to enter on the port forwarding page of your router. You may use this link below for instructions on how to do port forwarding on your router.
    http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=d9b27a0c1bb9496d8c22d0d55f875ddf_17241.xml&pid=80&...
    Another option is to set up DynDNS on your router. With this, you need to subscribe to DynDNS.com. I found some online links that could help you enable WOL remotely:

  • Wake-on-LAN Breaks After Several Reboots, 3.18 Kernel

    Greetings all,
    I'm leaving town for a month and I dont' want keep my machine turned on so I set up Wake-on-LAN on my desktop machine running 3.18 kernel. Got the wol command working but the problem is that something breaks and won't work beyond a few reboots. If I phisycally power up and shutdown the machine and then try it again, it magically works again.
    I set up port forwarding on my router then followed the wiki and tried every single method mentioned there, udev, cron, systemd and wol-systemd as a last resort. Strangely enough they all give me the same result, for whatever configuration, it doesn't last beyond a few reboots.
    As it stands, this is my current configuration after installing the wol-systemd package from AUR:
    [Unit]
    Description=Wake-on-LAN for %i
    Requires=network.target
    After=network.target
    [Service]
    ExecStart=/usr/sbin/enable-wol %i
    Type=oneshot
    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target
    My alternative is to leave my machine running, I can ssh into it just fine. but I'm hoping someone can shed some light. Feel free to ask any questions. Thanks!
    ***EDIT***
    No takers yet? Super quiet around the forums lately,
    I'm no networking guru, but I read up on some additional material regarding this subject. Apparently my problem is related to my router's ARP cache releasing the IP address after an initial period. Since the cache expires the magic packets never reach the destination IP, which coincides with the problem I'm having.
    An option is to use the broadcast address in place of the IP, however, that's beyond my router's capabilities, at least I think. My router is a Linksys EA6500. I've tried just about everything. I also tried messing around with AMT but that's even a bigger headache on linux. If anyone has a workaround it would surely be a great help. Thanks!

  • OS X Lion no longer wakes on lan to share external drive

    I have an Air and a Mini, both running Lion. The Mini has an external hard drive connected that it uses for Time Machine. That hard drive is also shared on the network so that the Air can automatically mount it and back up to it as well. This was working great under Snow Leopard, even automatically waking the Mini to share the drive as necessary.
    After installing Lion, the Air's backup only works if the Mini happens to be awake already. If the Mini is asleep, the Air gives an error: "The backup disk could not be found."
    The Mini is connected by wire to the router, which the Air connects to wirelessly. The Mini is set to wake on LAN in its preferences, and the Air automatically mounts the drive when it is available, just not when the Mini is asleep. How do I make sure that the Mini wakes up properly for file sharing?

    You won't get wake-on-LAN working under Lion because it is broken, and has been since Lion 10.7.1
    It's been reported by lots of people, including me, but Apple continue to advertise it as one of 250 new Lion features here, under networking / low power wake.
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/whats-new/features.html
    Your options are revert to Snow Leoard, leave you mac switched on all the time or buy a PC
    Hope this helps

  • Wake on LAN with Actiontech MI424wr Router

    I posted this by mistake in the DSL forum, sorry.
    . I've set up Wake on LAN for the purpose of powering up a media server that handles all my video and picture files. I have it working fine within my LAN but I've run into a problem when I use it from outside, meaning the internet or my cellular network. The Actiontech MI424WR router does not let me port forward the broadcast address so I worked around this issue by creating a static entry in the ARP table that passes the "Magic packet" to the broadcast MAC of FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF. See http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16041 for the details.
    This technique works fine but unfortunately, the ARP entry will not survive a router reboot or power down. From what information I've been able to find, it may be possible to create a startup script in the router that will re-create the ARP entry upon bootup. I've contacted Actiontech but they said I needed to speak to Verizon support. I contacted Verizon support and they gave me a number for the Verizon Expert Care Team. I'm kinda smelling a runaround so I figured I'd post the question here before I made any more calls.
    If you read that link I posted, theres an interesting alternative using a second router and changing that router's MAC address to all "F"s but not many routers will allow you to do that, at least not the two I have. Anyway, if someone knows how to create a startup script or has an alternate solution, I'd be most interested in seeing it. Thanks in advance.

    By the way if you are still interested here is my solution...
    Just change the IP, username and password.  Save this file to filename.vbs and Schedule a trigger (Daily Task, on PC startup) to run this script and you should be good to go
    set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    WshShell.run"telnet 192.168.1.1"
    WScript.Sleep 1500  WshShell.SendKeys"username"
    WshShell.SendKeys("{Enter}")
    WScript.Sleep 1500
    WshShell.SendKeys"password"

    WScript.Sleep 1500

    WScript.Sleep 1500
    WshShell.SendKeys"arp -s 192.168.1.254 FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF"
    WshShell.SendKeys("{Enter}")
    WScript.Sleep 1500

  • Is it possible to set BIOS settings over a command line?

    Hi,
    is there a possibility to set Toshiba BIOS settings over a command line tool?
    We have hundreds of Toshiba Notebooks and would like to activate Wake On Lan.
    I know there is hwsetup, but as far as I know this GUI doesn't accept parameters...
    We would like to propagate new settings over a script.
    Any solution for this ?
    Thanx

    > is there a possibility to set Toshiba BIOS settings over a command line tool?
    Something like that is not known to me and I doubt this could be possible.
    As you said there is an preinstalled Toshiba HWSetup tool which can be used to change some certain BIOS settings. But this is only one way to change the BIOS settings from the Windows OS.

  • M93p BIOS issue: PowerOff not correct if Enhanced Power Saving Mode Disabled and Wake on Lan Enabled

    Hi Levnovo support team, Recently I bought a M93p tiny(10AAA05MTW)(BIOS revision FBKT56A)and installed with Ubuntu 13.10 myself.Then tried to enable wake on lan for my tiny. The followings are my test result. 1. Enhanced Power Saving Mode Enabled, no mateter what is Wake On Lan setting     PowerOff system is OK. 2. Enhanced Power Saving Mode Disable and Wake On Lan Disabled    PowerOff system is OK. 3. Enhanced Power Saving Mode Disabled and Wake On Lan Primary or Automatic   PowerOff system is NG.   When I tried to power off system, it always can poweroff(LEDs on front all off) then POWER ON again in 2 or 3 seconds.   I cannot accept this test result ,system should poweroff not reboot again.   It's really hard to understand why enabling Wake on Lan will affect power off function. I tried the same procedures with my another M92p(3212A16)(BIOS revision 9SKT70AUS), and it works well.

    Did you ever get a fix for this?Having the same issue on 3 of 6 machines that just arrived.

  • Lenovo G50-30 Unable to access BIOS settings after Windows recovery

    Hi
    I recently 'downgraded' a recently purchased Lenovo G50-30 with preinstalled Windows 8.1 to Windows 7 using a UEFI USB install on a GPT partition. I also updated the BIOS from A7CN40WW to the latest A7CN43WW and all was working fine. However, after performing a necessary restore of an system image created using the Windows 7 backup and restore tool, I am suddenly unable to access the BIOS settings, either with the novo button (I do get the menu to select BIOS) or with Fn +F2. All that happens is that I receive a blank screen with a static cursor in the upper left corner. I can however still access the boot menu Fn +F12. This is a particular pain as I obviousl can't select USB 3.0 in BIOS.
    Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

    OK, I managed to clear CMOS by disassembling and desoldering a leg off the the RTC battery but to no avail. The problem seems to be that BIOS a7cn43ww itself has somehow been corupted. In theory this should be able to be resolved by a reflash. The trouble here is there seems to be no way to reflash with a current or previous BIOS version, so I'll have to either wait for a newer version or someone may know better.
    C'mon Lenovo support this simply isn't good enough. It's a brand new laptop and I'm considering returning it for a refund.

  • Compaq Presario 1714EA (Laptop) (BIOS Update and/or Wake-on-Lan)

    Hi guys, can anyone tell me if there is a way to update the BIOS on that Laptop or a way to make Wake-on-Lan work on this Laptop? Thank You

    I'm fairly certain that there is not.  HP locks out certain features from the BIOS, and there isn't much you can do to get them back.
    Though I am an HP employee, I am not here as a representative for them. I am here of my own accord to help those requesting it.
    Please demonstrate any appreciation for help with a kudos!

  • NF980 + SLI What Bios settings should be set at for PCIE.

    I currently purchased back in april the 955 BE am3 chip from AMD. I paired that with 4 gig's of mushikin 1600 ddr3 ram  with a latency of 7-7-6-18. I have installed 2 EVGA Geforce 9800 gtx+ SSC editions. Now here my issue, I currently play a brand new MMO called Aion. This board got released right as Aion came out, but at the time I was currently using a m4a79T deluxe, but obviously only utilizing one video card. Aion flew at between 120-130 fps. Now I purchased this board (NF980-65) hooked up everything I did above, again pairing it with Vista 64. I am now utilizing an SLI setup. However on this board my ram is showing much much lower then what it should be. I've read through the forums and will be correcting the ram issue tonight. But now I am curious what the Bios settings should be for PCIE because my frames per second NOW using two cards, has dropped down to , get ready for this 20-50 fps. All drivers are current, and up to date. Everything except the ram is proper and in order. I am wondering if I need to manipulate the Bios for PCIE or something, or what they should be at exactly so that I can utilize this system to its fullest potential. These cards are Nvidia, this board is Nvidia, yet 1 card ran better on a crossfire only board. Please help.

    Also the game "Aion" may not have corespond SLI pro file or to do not support SLI.{contact to game vendor to find out}
    Another tip:
    Apply from Nvidia CP:
    Turn off Vertical sync
    And set SLI Performance mode to: "Force alternate frame rendering 2"
    Apply and re-test.
    The game does not have an SLI profile. However, I should have mentioned, I uninstalled 1 card to kind of recreate my april environment. No change in FPS. Nivida control panel also has a feature to create your own profile if you will, or turn off sli, which I did too, without change. It has the last nvidia drivers of course, as its a brand new build, so it would require brand new drivers. I said that in the initial post. Again, all settings in OS and hardware are proper and in proper order. Thats why I asked about bios to begin with. You cannot setup a new computer with a fresh install and even see the nvidia control panel without installing it first which would be accompanied by the newest nvidia driver install package. Fyi. Also, I tried the additonal tip you mentioned in creation of a profile...Didn't change.
    You seem to know alot about this,I'm honestly impressed. But are you certain my bios settings from the factory are completly correct for an SLI setup?
