Set maximum charge

Hi there,
I'm wondering how to set a maximum charge for the battery of my MacBook Pro.
I usually keep it plugged in to the power outlet and use its battery only when I'm go on a trip.  The OS keeps the battery nearly fully charged (97--100%), but I'd like to limit it to, say, 60%, except when I go on a trip.
The lithium ion battery deteriorates when exposed to high temperature and the damage is large when it's fully charged.  Since my MacBook Pro often becomes hot, I'd like to minimize the damage on the battery.
I know there are Windows laptops that have user settings of maximum charge.  What about the MacBook Pro?

Thanks for your answer.
I guess that's a bad design, considering (again) the fact that the lithium ion battery keeps best at a 50--60% charge.  If not this, I wish it were easy for the user to remove and re-insert the battery.
I still wonder if there is any firmware menu (like the Windows machine's BIOS menu) from which you can control aspects of power?
Cheers,
Ryo

  • TPY: How to set maximum charging limit?

    In my Win 7 X220 and Win 8 Yoga11s, both had Lenovo programs (Power Manager and Lenovo Energy Management respectively) that allowed me to maximize battery health by setting a charging threshold.
    In the TPY, is there any Lenovo programs that does that too?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Lenovo removed the program in Windows 8.1. The battery is set to fully charge under all condition.

  • How to set % based charges ?

    We are going to have some charges that are related to the quantity shipped and some that aren't.   Also we have some that have a minimum/maximum charge. Typically, if the charge is a % based charge, then it should be based on the quantity shipped.   If it is not a % based charge, then we will probably NOT base it on the quantity shipped.   So let's look at an example:
    a. Order Restocking Percentage Charge = 20% of the order.   Order has 10 lines to be returned for a total amount of $100.    The customer actually  returns 6 lines for $75.    Ideally we want the credit memo to show the restocking fee to be $15, and the order to still show that there is $5 restocking fee to be charged when the last 4 items for $25 are returned.     So either you are going to have to split the restocking fee line and add the split line to a fulfillment set that is associated to one of the lines that is still open, or don't split the restocking fee line and re-associate it to a line that is open, or figure out another method for doing charges that don't invoice until an item is shipped/returned.
    b. Customer Down (15% of amount ordered, with a minimum $20 and a maximum of $170)  The charge is associated to only 1 line for 100 pieces for $200 (therefore the Customer Down line would be $30).    Due to availability we are able to ship 40 pieces ($80).   The Customer Down charge percentage for this shipment would calculate as $12 (15% of $80), however there is a minimum charge, so the invoice for this particular shipment would be $20 (the minimum).   Since the line for the item to be shipped splits and shows 60 more pieces due, the Customer Down line should also split and be associated to the item split line, plus the amount still to charged would now be $10 (charge of $30 - $20 invoiced).    All future shipments would then also split as needed and the charge amount for Customer Down would be calculated as
    if (total quantity shipped on all lines * %charge) > minimum
    Then if (total quantity shipped on all lines  * %charge) < charge on the order
    Then charge amount to invoice = (total quantity shipped on all lines * %charge) - charge already invoiced
    Else charge amount to invoice = $0
    Else charge amount to invoice = $0
    Any solution will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    NitinJ,
    I might be able to help with a, but I'm completely confused with what you are attempting with b.
    For a, we have our restock fees set in Pricing to a Surcharge modifier with a pricing phase of "List Line Adjustment" in Bucket 2.  This causes the modifier to adjust the unit selling price on each individual line independently.  So the customer just gets less credit for each item than what they paid.  We tried it initially with an inventory item method that you indicate above, creating a separate restock line for each product return line and tying them together with a fullfillment set, but really didn't like the way that worked.
    For b, is this "Customer Down" line a separate line on the order?  Is it some sort of pre-payment?

  • Set maximum size in Text Form Field Options for a field in bi publisher RTF

    Hi All,
    How to set maximum size in Text Form Field Options for a field in bi publisher RTF.
    I have a RTF whch is having a field in that i need to add some validation condition but after adding certain condition in Add help text tab ,it is not accepting after certain length, how i can increase the length to unlimited,please help me on this
    Thnaks

    Form fields have some restrictions if your are using version lower than 11g.
    They can accommodate only 393 chars. You can add the text in both status bar and help key, which can in total consume 393 chars.
    If your code logic is more than that, it can be split into multiple form fields as Avinash suggested or you can use sub template logic and handle coding over there. Again in sub template code can be within/outside form fields.
    So there is no option for user to increase the size of form field.

  • IView Deployment - how to set maximum file size?

    Hello,
    we have a problem while deploying iViews and uploading files to enterprise portal . The maximum upload file size seems to be limited to 1 MB. I have to deploy an iView greater than 1 MB. While deploying with netweaver developer studio I get following error message
    in logfile of developer studio:

    java.io.IOException: Error writing to server
    The direct upload of *.par with EP Component Manager also does not work. After clicking upload-button I get a standard http error page "aktion abgebrochen".
    Also on upload of any other document, for example personal documents which are bigger than 1 MB, I get this error.
    If I reduce file size of portal archiv lower than 1MB I can deploy and upload the iView.
    How canI set maximum upload file size in Enterprise Portal?
    Our Version: 6.0.2.4.7.Enterprise_Portal_Service_Pack_2
    Thanks for helping me,

    You need to use a precision argument:
    String foo = "a long name to print";
    System.out.printf("foo say: %.8s", foo); // 8 maxhttp://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/util/Formatter.html#syntax

  • How to set maximum number of jobs in oracle

    Could pls tell explain me about how to set maximum number of jobs in oracle....
    Regd,
    Mahi

    I don't think there is any limit on number of jobs that can be submitted to Oracle. However, there is a limit on the number of processes that would execute those jobs (governed by JOB_QUEUE_PROCESSES).

  • Set maximum record time?

    Can I set maximum record time in Logic 8? Recording an hour-long live program unsupervised, & I'd like it to stop afterwards.
    (I don't know any problem with continuing recording for hours until the hard drive is full? But it's not necessary.)
    thanks

    You can use the Auto-Punch In/Out function to set Logic stop recording automatically.
    Also, set the bar value for the project end (at the transportbar, under the tempo).
    For How long you can record depends on you HD capacity, but also the file format (aif,wav,caf...) the bit depth and the sample rate.
    each format has its own limit.
    Refer to user manual and check for the best file format for your purpose.

  • How set maximum of characters for the columns

    Hello I use a JTable and I want to set maximum of characters for the columns.
    For example column 1 max 10 characters, column 2 max 20 characters, etc..
    How can I do this?

    The principle is as follows: a table uses certain input components for editing a cell value, e.g. a JCheckBox for Boolean-type values or a JTextField for textual/numerical values. By default, a JTextField doesn't have any size limit, so you can enter as many chars as you want. In order to change this behaviour, you'll have to
    1.) create a JTextField that does have a size limit and
    2.) set a CellEditor on the JTable which uses this manipulated JTextField.
    An easy way for 1.) is to create a custom Document (the internal data representation for text components, the M-part of the MVC -- see javax.swing.text.Document) that doesn't accept any text beyond a given limit, e.g.:
    public class LimitedDocument extends PlainDocument {
      private int max = 0;
      public LimitedDocument(int max) {
        this.max = max;
      public void insertString(int offset, String str, AttributeSet a) throws BadLocationException {
        // too long for the limit; get current contents, insert, and cut off trailing chars
        if ((getLength() + str.length()) > max) {
          StringBuffer buf = new StringBuffer(getText(0,getLength()));
          buf.insert(offset,str);
          remove(0,len); // remove current text contents
          super.insert(0,buf.toString().substring(0,max),a); // insert whole text
        // no problem, will fit
        else {
          super.insertString(offset,str,a);
    }Then, in order to set the cell editor -- for example for the first column --, you can do as follows:
    myTable.getColumnModel().getColumn(0).setCellEditor(new DefaultCellEditor(new JTextField(new LimitedDocument(5),"",5)));This will create a new DefaultCellEditor (see javax.swing.table) and initialize it with a given text field which will be responsible for any edition in this column. As the text field itself is created using a limit of 5, it should accept no text insertion beyond 5 chars.

  • How set maximum character length in Fxml

    Hey can any body help me set Maximum character length in Fxml.
    thanx in advance

    I wrote my own TextField.
    I can't give you the code right now, but it's easy to create it by yourself.
    0 - create a private method that deletes any unwanted char/s: restoreRightLength();
    1 - Add a listener on the textProperty of your TextField/TextArea that calls restoreRightLength() method.
    2 - Override  the following methods:
    @Override
    public void replaceText(int start, int end, String text) {
    super.replaceText(start, end, text);
    restoreRightLength();
    @Override
    public void replaceSelection(String text) {
    super.replaceSelection(text);
    restoreRightLength();

  • What to set maximum simultaneous connection to?

    Hello
    What do I set maximum simultaneous connection to (web server settings)? In Apache manual you can calculate "maxClient" by taking the avaiable free RAM and split that with the memory each httpd process using. In my case that would be: 6000 / 15 = 400 maxClient.
    But in Apples "Web tech admin" pdf they write: "...Browsers often request several parts of a webpage at the same time, and each request creates a connection". Does that really mean that every image need a separate connection – or have I missunderstand anything?
    At the moment I have it set to the default 1024. But, CPU usage is very often in the 90-100% region… So, should I go by Apache's definition or Apples default?
    Best regards, Magnus

    You'll want to look at where the CPU time is going across everything that is going on, and at how much memory is in use; at a more holistic approach toward tuning.  Unless you're getting a substantial load on Apache or unless you're very marginal on available memory, tweaking the maximum processes isn't usually a huge win.
    If you are looking at comparatively large volumes of http traffic and that 90-100% CPU is largely web-related, then you'll want to profile the server using the Safari or other tools, and look at optimizations and at web caching, and potentially at adding web servers.
    And yes, a web browser can have multiple parallel connections into a web server.
    The maximum connections stuff sets up the numbers of Apache http client processes, which is why you're looking at memory with that discussion you've found.
    Something similar to this command will get you the accumulated CPU time and the memory (rss) size for the Apache processes:
    ps -A -o ucomm,rss,time | grep -i httpd
    There are Apache tuning articles around the 'net, but I'd first make sure it's Apache that's soaking up the CPU time and not some other constraint.

  • Is there a maximum-charge repair at Apple store?

    I have a USB overcurrent issue on my MBP (A1150). It may be something simpler, but it could well necessitate a new logic board.
    Trying to ascertain if I understood the genius correctly several months ago....Apple will repair EVERYTHING for a maximum charge of $330.
    Can anybody verify?
    Thanks,
    Terry D

    eww, greetings:  There is one point you make did not seem to apply in my case.  The lid had two very noticeable dents (fumble fingers me had dropped a small 2x 4 on it) and the bottom  case had numerous areas of warping where it connects to the key board. This I believe was a engineering flaw which was solved by the adoption of the unibody design. MY MBP did not look pretty.   The reason for the repair was an issue with the display.
    Upon return, the MBP had a new display, new lid, new keyboard, new bottom case, new RAM cover, new optical drive and a new airport card.  Total bill: $1240.  Total payment: $310 plus tax.  Turnaround time was three days.  Incidentally the new display had a flaw which was replaced at no charge.
    I still have that MBP and I have not dropped anything on it.  It works perfectly and still looks like it came out of the box.
    This is my experience and I cannot say if it is typical or not.  Was it worth it?  YOU BET!
    Ciao.
