Set monitor to manufacturers defaults before monitor calibration

Hi, I just want to be absolutley sure here about something. I am wishing to do a complete fresh calibration of my monitor with spyder3 pro. When you calibrate for the first time you are asked to set the monitor back to default settings. In my IMAC under Preferences-Display-Colour-Profiles associated with this display one is given two choices, either Apples 1.8 or s'RGB (i know I have others when I untick that little box, I originally set my monitor back to 1.8, I had done my own calibration at 2.2 before i invested in the spyder software, so i went ahead and re-set the monitor to this profile since this was how it was shipped).
Was this the correct thing to do, if so, when I wish to RE-CALIBRATE, that is NOT CHECK THE CALIBRATION for accuracy, but to do a new calibration. Should I keep setting this monitor back to its default settings. Have I done the right thing?
Thanks
Chris.

It doesn't matter what profile you set in Apple's Display Preferences. The i1 Display calibrator clears the TRC and gamma curves from the video card LUTs from whatever profile is loaded no matter if it's 2.2 or 1.8 gamma. You set target gamma (should be 2.2) or native gamma in i1 Match and run it.
On the iMac all you can do is adjust the backlight with the brightness slider in Display Preferences. It should be adjusted according to how bright a white sheet of paper looks under available ambient light to display white. The preloaded profile would only influence the appearance of contrast in a grayramp as you adjust the brightness slider, not the brightness of the white on the display.
Other than that the preloaded canned profile doesn't influence anything but allow i1 Display to reload it after final calibration to compare before and after affects of calibration.

  • Setting the default display (monitor)

I use my TV as my second monitor to stream Netflix.
If I'm watching something in a separate window and close out/shut down for the night FF will default to the TV instead of the active monitor (I don't keep the TV on all the time). This happens even if I pull the other window back to the primary monitor.
I want to set FF to always default to my #1 monitor no matter which window it was last open on.

I'm sorry no one has had an answer for you yet.  It's been a slow weekend.  Perhaps erik or one of the others who deal with color will have some information to share next week.

  • Setting "Monitor RGB" as default.

Like many others I know, I design ONLY for the screen and thus, I ALWAYS want my screen to soft proof to "Monitor RGB" in both Illustrator and Photoshop (CS3). I've developed the habit of selecting View > Proof Setup > Monitor RGB and making sure that View > Proof Colors is checked EVERY SINGLE time I create or open a document. Is there a way I can set this as my default?
    (17" "unibody" MacBook Pro, CS3)

The variable that is used in this report is 1VERP. You can changed this via GS12 to enter the whatever plan version to default under the default value. For your information, the report group 1AIP is run when you run the t-code S_ALRr_87013613, which inturn runs the report 1AIP-001 that incorporate the variable 1VERP under the plan data for version selection.
But this may not be the best practise, because you will be changing the SAP standard, which will be overwritten when you upload support packages or do an upgrade. Better you copy this report and use your own version variable, by copying the 1VERP.

  • Wide Gamut Monitors & 10.6 Default Monitor RGB

Hi, an Adobe employee just told me Snow Leopard 10.6x defaults untagged and unmanaged color, that SL "uses sRGB for untagged images/graphics, and converts to the profile for each display”.
I no longer have a WIDE GAMUT monitor to test myself.
Can a few people with wide gamut displays running 10.6x and Safari 5 please go to
    www(dot).gballard.net/photoshop/srgbwidegamut.html
and roll over the tagged and untagged sRGB images at the top of the page.
And post back if they "match" to prove or disprove his statement?
(By his statement, the tagged and untagged rollovers should "match."
Also, if they shift, how does the untagged sRGB change in appearance?
Thanks (I am trying to get my page updated)...

That's expected, a wide gamut monitor will be a lot redder.
Yes. Just a lot more color range and gamut to view than a "standard" monitor.
Tagged) Photoshop/Safari is reading the embedded profile and CONVERTING to Monitor RGB.
Actually, that's what the OS or Photoshop always does. No matter what you're viewing in Photoshop, and no matter what the CMYK, RGB or grayscale working spaces are set at, the color you view is always your monitor profile, which is the last conversion done before displaying the image in Photoshop to the screen. Which is why I use my monitor profile as my working RGB space. I want my images to contain the color data of the device I'm viewing, not a canned space forced to fit. Here's what I mean. This image is Adobe RGB and my monitor profile overlaid. It's mostly a top down view. That was the best orientation I could turn the 3D map to for the example.
The ghosted map is the monitor space. As you can see, if I were to use Adobe RGB as my working space, I'd be losing all of the color I could be using that extends beyond Adobe RGB (reds through pinks, greens), since Adobe RGB would limit how far I could saturate those colors, as it has to stay within the limits of the profile. On the other side of the coin, the left side shows how much of Adobe RGB extends beyond my monitor space. The even brighter pinks through bright cyans across the top left.
But I don't care about that color. I already get all the saturation I can reasonably use for a photo. I mean, just how unnaturally bright do you want someone's lime green shirt to look? Using a color space your monitor can't display is also a very bad idea in my opinion. Say you're happy with the color you see on your current monitor. Then you get a new monitor at some point with an even wider color range. Suddenly, those bright pinks are way more saturated than you remember. What's wrong? Nothing. Your new monitor is just showing you values that were already in your Adobe RGB tagged image your previous monitor was incapable of displaying. I would much, much rather use my monitor profile for my RGB images. Then when I do move to any even wider range monitor, ColorSync/Photoshop will be able to properly map the color to fit the new monitor profile so the images look identical, or nearly so, as they did on the monitor I was using before.
In short, I consider canned profiles such as Adobe RGB, sRGB, ColorMatch RGB, etc. completely useless. None of them represent the device (monitor) in front of you. Only a properly created monitor profile is accurate to that device.
If the Adobe theory were true, you would NOT see a brighter, redder image on the rollover (they would "match").
Sorry, -g. By, So far, it sounds like his theory is true., I just meant that my tests were following his theory up to that point. After that though, it falls apart.
Can you tell me if Photoshop> Assign Profile (your custom EIZO monitor profile) displays like the Safari untagged rollover (especially level of saturated reds)?
Yes, but it looks that that to start with if I open the untagged image and tell PS to leave the color as is. So PS/ColorSync is already doing the only thing it can do with the color, mapping it to fit the monitor profile.

  • Monitoring/Alerting Set up options in SM - System Monitoring

    Comrades
When configuring Solution monitoring in SM 4.0 for our lanscape the customised CCMS monitor set (created in RZ20 of Target Sysem) needs to be imported during set-up system monitoring process
1.Is it possible to import the customised CCMS context in solution monitoring during set up?
2.In the current system monitoring configuration certain DB related monitors are not visible (displayed) though they are configured properly is something to be done ?
Also looking on the following alerting options E-mail,SMS and SNMP Traps from the SM 4.0.My understanding is E-mail and SMS are based on Central autoreaction methods on the Alert Monitor.
3.Is it possible to configure E-mail and SMS without CCMS Agents on Target Systems ? and Is there a way of configuring  E-mail and SMS other than Central Auto Reaction Methods ?
4.Are there any prerequistes (Agents, Software, packages ) for configuring SNMP Traps from SM ?
I have done some reading and searching on these points and pretty unclear on these aspects.Kindly share your knowledge on this area.
    Kindly Respond

I managed to set up an account manually on the C7 but I had to trick the email application by entering an invalid email address and password. After it could not find my account it then opened up all the settings and permitted me to add the manual IMAP settings, reply to address and other details. After I committed the settings, the phone recognised the account as a gmail account and it locked down all the settings again so I could not go back and change them if wrong.
I was quite chuffed with myself for seemingly resolving all my issues.....but on using the new account settings I could not sync the gmail sent / bin folders. All the other folders synchronised fine and when I send email it has the correct reply to address. Strangely this matches the best results I obtained when connecting using the Mail for Exchange settings so am no further forward. I am a little confused by this as when I let the phone set up the Gmail account on it's own it can sync everything.....but I just can't
I am now hoping that the new software update (PR1.2) gets email working a little better....well when I eventually get it hehe.

  • Unable to set external display as primary/main monitor on Macbook Boot Camp

I have an LG Flatron W1942TQ monitor hooked up to my Macbook right now. I am able to extend the desktop to this monitor and use it dual display style, but the Start menu remains on the Macbook display.
I want the monitor to be the primary monitor. So I go to check off "Set as Primary Monitor" in the control panel, but when I do that it suddenly reverts back to having the Macbook monitor as the only display, shutting off the LG Flatron.
Just wondering if there is a driver issue or something I am overlooking as to how to have my external display as the main monitor.

I think that works for Mac OS but in Boot Camp Windows XP OS does not have that option. I did try to drag the XP system bar at the bottom onto my external display but no luck. I am having the same issue as Jack Ryan and Philtones. I am a mild timpered guy and love my MBP but this agrivation just about has me ready to throw it.
I hooked it up at a LAN party & the display wouldn't come on at first. It finally just started working & I played several games in mirror mode. Then, I decided to correct the resolution and couldn't get mirroring back on no matter what I tryed. I also can't switch primary monitor.
Please, someone, has anyone found the solution?
Windows is a very bad 7-letter word.

  • Can't access internet since I set Firefox as my default, I could before. Set firefox as exception to firewall, even tried disabling firewall totally. Still can't get service on my other computer.

I was able to access firefox before I set it as my default browser.Have called my internet company but they were not able to help. I can access email just fine so I know my connection is fine. I have tried deleting history, cookies, etc. I have tried unplugging modem and restarting.

When going to a website the picture was small - tried changing the Zoom size , tried Zoom Reset - the text did change size but the layout distorts - found under View - Zoom - Zoom Text Only was checked --- Removed this check mark and the website returned to normal size and Zoom worked normally again. I am 99.9999% sure I did NOT check this myself and there is no one else on the computer to cause it. Maybe this will help.

  • DUAL MONITOR BUG: One Picture – One Monitor – Different Colors!

There have been several threads discussing that Photoshop CS4 and OS 10.6. show wrong colors in dual monitor setups.
The first one to prove this with a screen capture was jb510-LJ0JJQ in August 2009: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2207312#2207312
Eight months and three OS updates later the problem is still there and makes professional work with more than one monitor a nuisance.
Here's another actual example: A picture and its 100% identical copy showing different colors on one screen!
Here's how to repeat it – try this at home ;-)
    1) In the finder make a copy of a rgb picture.
    2) Open one of the two identical pics in photoshop.
    3) Drag it to the other monitor.
When releasing the mouse button you may see the bug already: the colors will "switch".
    4) To verify this go to system presets - monitors - and change the primary monitor (by dragging the menu bar to the other)
    5) Now open the identical copy you made in step 1) and see the difference!
Here's a synopsis of suggested workarounds:
    1) disable open GL (which seem to makes no difference on my setup)
    2) click "desaturate monitor colors" but set desaturation to 0 (which prevents visual switching in step 3) (only if openGL is ON) but also leads to a wrong display in step 4+5
    3) make the hardware calibrated monitor your default monitor and strictly avoid changes or dragging pics to the other monitor (which seems to be the only reliable method)
    4) some guys even force both monitors to use the profile of their hardware-calibrated monitor (using color sync) to make sure they see what they should see on at least that one monitor. What a stone-age workaround for the the world's leading imaging program!
Considering that reliable colors in professional (=multi monitor) settings should be the most basic function of photoshop this mayor malfunction should be solved with CS5! Otherwise we might have to live with it for some more years...
Have Adobe and Apple realized this bug and on their agenda? Will it be gone with OS 10.6.3? Can anyone explain the reasons for this bad bug? Is there a "officially" recommended workaround?
    Thanks, regards,
    Eric

There have been several threads dealing with this malfunction. But most faded out in silence or acceptance of the workarounds.

But man, this is no minor bug! Consistent colors are the by far most important basic function of photoshop. If you cannot rely on the colors in photoshop you can as well use "Preview" and "Word" for print production ;-)
Carson, how did Apple react to your complaint? What do you mean with "they don't get it". Do they not see it? Or can't they get it right?
Shall we open a thread at apple forums to point out that it's not the problem of a single user?

  • Set One Display as 'Default' on Startup?

I have a Mac Pro 2.66 GHz Dual-Core that I have connected primarily to one external display (22" LCD monitor by Insignia) and two LCD projectors. The projectors are not always plugged in, because the primary use of this computer is in the tech booth of a theatre space, but logistically, we need to have the VGA cords for the projecters plugged into the back of the Mac at all times. I'm having trouble getting the computer to recognize the LCD monitor as the default/master display on startup (both when the projecters are plugged in and when they're not.) Is there a way to set the display settings to always recognize the port that the LCD monitor is plugged in to as a default? When it doesn't, I can't see the login screen on startup.
Thanks for any help you can give!

Login to your administrator account and in the "Arrangement" tab of "Displays" system preference, drag the menu bar to the picture of the 22" display.
Have you tried switching DVI ports on the back of the computer?

  • Dual Monitors: Grey bar on #2 monitor ('09 iMac)

I have a 2009 24 inch iMac running Mountain Lion. All updates. I am using a Dual Monitor. On my #2 monitor there is this annoying grey bar at the top of the screen. No matter what I try...it will not go away! I tried multiple wallpapers, no wall paper, multiple resolutions....I evern tried another monitor. Yet it stays and haunts me! I have attached a photo. Help or ideas would make me a happy man!
    Many thanks!

You know...that is a great idea. Although it is a brand new installation with no plugins installed yet...I was going to try it. I had restarted the machine for the heck of it this morning and *poof* it was gone!
I had calibrated the monitor just before I saw the grey bar. I don't understand how that could have caused the issue...but... *shrug*.
I am an Apple certified support tech so it really drove me nuts I could not figured it out. I asked the question before I dug into troubleshooting (I was getting ready to go to sleep). But safe boot is always a great way to try something. I had reset the P-RAM, btw and it made no difference. If it comes back I will be back!
Googling I couldn't find much in the way if situations similar to mine. That is why I took the screencap.
Thanks again for your help! Cheers!

  • How to set the user's Default joboptions directory?

    Hello Experts,
When we installed Acrobat Pro 8.x on our Win XP Pro systems our systems were NOT in a Windows Domain.  At that time the default location for user-created/customized joboptions files was:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings
where <Username> is the name of the LOCAL Windows user.
A few years ago we migrated to a Windows Domain and converted our LOCAL users to domain users and disabled, but did not delete, the LOCAL user's account.  We did not remove the LOCAL user's Documents and Settings directory structure either.
Our users now log into a DOMAIN rather than the LOCAL account.
    As a result of that process the user's Documents and Settings directory structure changed to;
      C:\Documents and Settings\<Username.DOMAINNAME>
where DOMAINNAME is, of course, our Windows Domain Name.
    Now we are beginning to use Acrobat Distiller joboptions and I notice that when Acrobat/Distiller goes to save a user-created/customized joboptions file the default location has remained;
      C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings
which is NOT the user who is logged in
    Acrobat/Distiller should use the Documents and Settings directory of the user who is actually logged in which is;
      C:\Documents and Settings\<Username.DOMAINNAME>\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings
This anomaly has created some confusion and appears to have created a dependency of the old LOCAL user's Documents and Settings directory preventing us from deleting it.
    Question:
How can we force Acrobat/Distiller to use the Documents and Settings directory of the logged in user (eg: the Domain user)?
In other words, how do we set the user's default joboptions directory?
    Pointers/tips/and tricks are most welcome.

    if the user is the one running the program, you can always get the home directory using System.getProperties ("user.home");
If you are trying to get the properties of another user, you could try using setProperties to change the user name first, before getiting the home directory, but it probably won't work because of the security manager. You could read the /etc/passwd file and parse the path out, but once again, the user of the code would have to have appropriate permission.

  • Can I run 2 monitor with one of the monitor having Full Screen for Elgato Eye TV?

My mac mini has Elgato 'Eye TV' software that runs in 'Full Screen'.  I want to keep this setting & also connect another monitor to the macmini & use other Appilications on the other monitor?  Can I run 2 monitor with one of the monitor having Full Screen for Elgato Eye TV?
    My early 2009 macmini can run Mac OS 10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8

Yes, run one from HDMI and the other from Thunderbolt/minidisplayport sockets. In EyeTV Preferences check the screen you want for full screen use and make sure your Dock is on the other one.

My operating system is Windows 8. I have tried all that was recommended here and nothing works. When I try to set waterfox as my default browser, nothing happens. Every time I go online it tells me waterfox is not my default browser. This has only been in the last couple of weeks, so I am guessing it has something to do with the last update, but not sure. Either way, before the update it was fine, after the update it was not.

Waterfox is based on Firefox code, but there are differences. You might try their support site here: https://www.reddit.com/r/waterfox

  • Set Print Annotations as Default for document

I revised a form provided to us by another agency. I inserted our "letterhead" using a textbox and then created another textbox to show the form number.
I tried to use the method of saving the form document as a PostScript file so the two textboxes would print, but I lost all of the form fields. Preflight won't work; it keeps failing before it gets even 1/4 the way down the first of seven pages. I was able to set the Print dialog to default to printing the first page only, but there is no apparent way to set the dialog to default to Documents & Images as well. This seems to be a change from v7, but I could be mistaken. We use use Acrobat Professional v9. Everything displays correctly. Is there a way to print everything the screen view shows?
    Thank you.

  • Tuning Exchange 2013 HealthSet Monitors (example: MailboxTransport - Mapi.Submit.Monitor)

    Hello everyone,
I was hoping some of you could help me out a bit with the new monitors in Exchange 2013.
Especially after updating to CU6 we are getting a lot of warnings from SCOM with different HealthSets that show as unhealthy. These are usually “OK” again when we log on to the server and run Get-ServerHealth or Get-HealthReport. The most common healthset is
Compliance, but also get warnings from MailboxTransport and ActiveSync.
If we do manage to log on before the healthset returns to healthy again, like in the example below, we can drill down a bit. We are however very unsure about what to do with this information. Perhaps we should change the threshold, but how do we find out exactly
what this monitor is reporting on? We know it has something to do with Mapi Submit, and that the threshold is 8, but not much more than that?
