Set newname vs. configure auxname

I thought I had seen this somewhere before, but couldn't find it, so I apologize if this has been addressed before.
Is it better to use configure auxname when cloning a database or to use the set newname command? Is there a difference?
Thanks.

i have been using configure auxname for a couple of weeks now and it has worked without a problem. the main benefit is that i don't have to constantly run the set newname command each time i go to duplicate the database. i just completed a duplicate process yesterday, again, with no problems using the configure auxname.
i am working with 9.2.0.6 on AIX 5L.

  • Moving RAC/ASM to single-node non-rac SET NEWNAME not working

    Good morning,
    I'm trying to restore a rac/asm database to a non-rac environment to simulate disaster recovery under worst-case circumstances.
    Here is as faras I have been able to get
    1) Restored pfile

    3) Restored controlfile successfully

    I noticed that it's trying to create the datafile. Shouldn't it be giving me a "Restoring datafiles from backup piece" clause? Also it appears to be trying to recreate the datafiles in their old location. Any thoughts on how to get around this.
    Using the db_file_name_convert does allow me to restore files to the filesystem, but they use names such as "omf_*" and I'm not sure if it's converting the files properly from ASM format.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    I assume your problem is either in your pfile ( but you indicate you have removed all RAC settings), or in your control file.
    I would recommend to remove the control files and create them later as soon as the datafiles have been restored, using the commands:
    STARTUP NOMOUNT
    CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "OMST01" NORESETLOGS FORCE LOGGING NOARCHIVELOG
    -- SET STANDBY TO MAXIMIZE PERFORMANCE
    MAXLOGFILES 100
    MAXLOGMEMBERS 2
    MAXDATAFILES 1024
    MAXINSTANCES 8
    MAXLOGHISTORY 10210
    LOGFILE
    < your logfiles >
    DATAFILE
    < your datafiles >
    CHARACTER SET <your character set>;So the steps are
    Startup nomount with the pfile
    Restore the datafiles using rman
    Shutdown the database
    Use above script to create the control files
    It is possible you need to use the RESETLOGS option instead of the NORESETLOGS

  • Is it possible to move some tools or their setting parameter from Configuration interface to Inspection Interface?

    Hi
    We use Vision Builder for machine vision. There are two interfaces in Vision Builder (Inspection Interface & Configuration interface). It is better machine vision operator would work with Inspection Interface and he should not access to all of setting and tools but he need to redefine some parameter like RIO in some tools like measuring tools for different products.
    Is it possible to move some tools or their setting parameter from Configuration interface to Inspection Interface?
    Or is it possible to define security like password to some tools and their setting but not all of them?
    Thanks
    Refa

    Vision Builder generally isn't supposed to rely on user input, but there is a step called "User Input" that allows you to get input from the user. ROI would be tricky. I think the slickest way to do that would be to create a VI that displays the image, lets the user drag a rectangle, then pass those coordinates back to Vision Builder to configure the ROI.

    Hello Pavel,

    A typical APEX login page includes a process called Clear Page(s) Cache, with a sequence of 30. If the process you have create has a higher sequence (>30) it will see a null page values as they have been cleared already.

  • How can I set programatically DAQ configuration?

    I configured and saved my DAQ subsystem in a .daq file using NI MAX. Now I can set active configuration by MAX menu commands, Tools->NI-DAQ Configuration->Set Active Configuration, but the matter is I need to do it programmatically. My question is:
    Is there any way to set DAQ configuration (i.e. to restore the DAQ configuration from the .daq file) programmatically ?
    Thank you in advance.

    Unfortunately, there is no way to set the active configuration programmatically in LabVIEW. There is an ActiveX control in LabVIEW that allows you to manually change the configuration of MAX from within LabVIEW.
    You can use the NiMax Viewer ActiveX control to configure your hardware directly in LabVIEW. You still must configure all settings manually, but you can do so in LabVIEW instead of launching a separate application (MAX).
    To use the control, place an ActiveX container on the front panel. Right-click the container, select Insert ActiveX Object from the shortcut menu, select NiMax Viewer, and click the OK button.
    This container gives you access to the configuration tree of MAX but you aren't able to get to the Tools menu option.
    Refer to the LabVIEW H
    elp, available by selecting Help»Contents and Index (6.0) or Help»VI, Function, & How-To Help (6.1 & 7.0), for more information about using ActiveX containers.

  • Clarification regarding set newname

    Hi,
    We have an Oracle 10g Database (10.2.0.4) on AIX (6.1). We taken backup from another and then moved to the files to the new machine.
    First the backup files catalog as follows;
    RMAN> run
    2> {
    3> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_06lpi3e4.bkp';
    4> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_0glpi5jg.bkp';
    5> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_0elpi55n.bkp';
    6> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_0flpi58h.bkp';
    7> catalog backuppiece '/u01/backup/TESTENV_07lpi3e4.bkp';

  • Setting the dynamicRender configuration in Designer

    Hi,
    I'm trying to generate a dynamic PDF using Livecycle Forms. According to the documentation the "RenderAtClient" parameter in Livecycle Forms is set to "auto" by default which means it "instructs the Form Server Module to observe the form design's dynamicRender configuration value".
    How do I set the form design's dynamicRender configuration value? I suspect it's a checkbox somewhere in the Designer UI with a slightly different wording, but nothing there jumps out at me as being obviously the correct property to change.
    If someone can point me to how you can set the dynamicRender configuration value in the Designer, that would be helpful.
    Regards,
    Rob

    RMAN> EXITDuring Recovery , RMAN applied the archive logs and managed to create the datafiles successfully. But it can't restore the datafiles to the new location specified in the SET NEWNAME location. Luckily , I had created the original path and these 2 datafiles got restored there.
    RMAN can't seem enforce SET NEWNAME for datafiles added after Level 1 backup despite cataloging.
    Does SET NEWNAME .... thing work only for RESTORE ?

    5> restore database;
    6> switch datafile all;
    7> switch tempfile all;
    8> recover database;
    9> }RMAN executes the commands in the run block stepwise. In your case, starting from "set newname for database..." and lastly executing "recover database...".
    Let me interpret it for you.
    1. You restored the controlfile from the L1 backup which does not have any information about the 2 newly added datafiles. You cataloged the backuppieces and the archives to this controlfile, which means that the controlfile would now be aware that the required backups and archives are in this cataloged location.
    2. You set newname for database to the desired location, thereby this command is executed restoring the database from the L0 and L1 backups. (These 2 backups do not have any information about the newly added datafiles and hence the 2 files would still not be restored).
    3. You execute restore database which restores the files from L0 and L1 backup.
    4. Switch datafile all, this renames all the files that were restored in the previous steps to the desired name/location that was mentioned in step 2.
    5. Recover database: This is where the archivelogs come into picture. The data in the archives would be created & recovered. The newly added datafiles are now created & recovered but RMAN does not go back to STEP 2 and STEP 4 to re-execute the commands in STEP2 and STEP4 to restore it to the desired location (STEP 2) and Rename it (STEP 4). The files will have to renamed later by moving them manually to the location that you require.
    So, RMAN does not execute the SET NEWNAME for datafiles which were added after the backup as the information about these files do not exist in the RMAN backuppieces.

  • PSC Setup - Setting REX Agent Configuration, state blocked at "Ongoing"

    I followed the IAC (IAC 4, PSC 10) install guide, but I'm stuck at the "Setting REX Agent Configuration".
    I should wait for the task to complete, but the state is blocked at "Ongoing  (2 of 3 Completed)" since yesterday. I don't know why it's stuck and what to do.
    Below, the Requisition detail :

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply. I already try the REX login, and validate that the REX service was "up". I also try to cancel the requisition and make a new one with no result.
    As you suggested I've updated the request (not sure it was what you mean by "resend")  and the result seems the same (the due date is in 2h, don"t know how much time it should take)

    Tried to restore again but got this message.
    RMAN-06085: must use SET NEWNAME command to restore datafile /oracle/Ora11g/dbs/MISSING00126

    no, im not restoring datafile to different location.
    this is what i encounter after a successfull restore and but failed recover.
    My original post is on the other thread.
    i was just desperate to start a new thread since there are nobody but only one who replied
    Hope you could go to that thread and help me... topic: (Success on RESTORE but failed on RECOVER-- need help)

  • Rman restore  set newname

    We are cloing a database, but using the restore method ( version 11.1.0.7)
    The source and destination path are different. As we are using the source controlfile, before restoration SET new name inside the run block is
    the way to change the path.
    I was just wondering, if there is any other way to do it. Because, we have around 1000 datafiles, and dont want write everything in the run block.
    Also, this goes from Non-ASM to ASM. I tried DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT, but it seems to be not working.
    run
    Set newname for datafile 1 to '+DATA_DG1';
    Set newname for datafile 2 to '+DATA_DG1';
    Set newname for datafile 3 to '+DATA_DG1';
    Set newname for datafile 4 to '+DATA_DG1';
    restore database;
    switch datafile all;
    }

    Thanks vlethakula
    I was exactly looking for something like that.
    But unfortunately, it is a new feature of 11gR2.

  • What is "best practice" to set up and configure a Mac Mini server with dual 1 TB drives, using RAID 1?

    I have been handed a new, out of the box, Mac Mini server.  Has two 1 TB drives in it.  Contractor suggested RAID 1 for the set up.  I have done some research
    and found out that in creating the software RAID, this takes away the recovery partition, so I have been reading up on how to create a recovery "disk" using a thumb drive.  this part of the operation I am comfortable with, but there are other issues/concerns that I have.
    Basically, what is the "best practice" to setup the Mini, configure the RAID and then start the server.  I am assuming the steps would be something like this:
    1) start up the Mini and run through the normal Maverick setup/config - keep it plain and vanilla
    2) grab a copy of the Server app and store it offline in a safe place
    3) perform the RAID configuration / reinstall of OS X Maverick using the recovery tools
    4) copy down and start the server app
    This might be considered a very simplified version of this article (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4886 - Mac mini server (Late 2012 and Mid 2011): How to install OS X Server on a software RAID volume), with the biggest difference being I grab a copy of the Server App off of the mini before I reinstall, since I did not purchase it from the App store, but rather it came with the mini.
    Is there a best practice /  how-to tutorial somewhere that I can follow/learn from? Am I on the right track or headed for a train wreck?
    thanks in advance

    I think this article will answer your question. Hope this helps: http://wisebyte.blogspot.com/2014/01/best-configuration-for-mac-mini-server.html
