Set Non-Scrolling Region in RH HTML

I am using RH 8 for HTML.
In RH Word I could set a non-scrolling region in my individual topics. Is there a way to do that in HTMLHelp?
Thanks!

Hi Tina
Sorry, but those are simply standard links in my signature line.
What my reply was meant to convey was that making this work in RoboHelp HTML is going to be a bit of a daunting task for most folks. So the question to ask you here is how serious are you about making it work? Assuming you really Really REALLY absolutely MUST make it work, you will need to step beyond the cozy confines of what RoboHelp intuitively offers, roll up your sleeves and begin hand coding CSS and HTML. And don't be surprised to discover that even that may not be enough as RoboHelp will often helpfully undo what you did.
If that's really what you want to do, I'll post back with a link to a site that tells you how to accomplish it. (I'd post it now but it always requires me to dig endlessly to locate it. So I wanna be sure you really need to tackle it first.)
You might click that link in my sig to the Wish Form and submit a Feature Request to see Adobe build this NSR ability into RoboHelp HTML. Who knows, if they see enough folks asking for it, maybe we will see it someday.
Cheers... Rick

  • Setting Non Scrolling Region in RH9 HTML ?

    I have been a RH for Word user generating .HLP output files for several years.  A particular feature I like to use in the HLP out put is to set specific Non Scolling regions at the top of topics.  Also including Links (Including Authorable Buttons) withoin those non scrolling regions.
    Due to issues I am having with the current output of 'HLP files in the lkatest version of RH9 I am seriously considering (Many have told me I should have years agp) migrating to a CHM output.  In the process Ihope to convert my current large .HLP project to a RH 9 HTML project and a CHM output.
    What I would like advice on is 'Is there a simple or non simple way within RH HTML to set 'Non Scrolling regions" similar to what I have in RH for word .HLP output files ?  Is there anyone who can provide me with simple step by step instructions that I could follow to achieve this outcome ?
    Thanks

    Hi Bryan
    I'm not sure if it's covered there, but there is a way to accomplish the NSR goal using CSS rules. I believe a guy named Roger Nilsson had some info on it. I may have a link to his site from my CHM file. If memory serves, it is Copperfield Publishing.
    http://www.copperfieldpub.com/
    Seems he had some examples using "Alice in Wonderland" as the text.
    I recall when I made the switch from WinHelp to HTML Help about 12 years ago that I was really dismayed that HTML Help offered no NSR. I eventually came to terms with it and abandoned the thought of keeping them.
    Cheers and best of luck to you... Rick

  • Non scrolling region with watermark in RH-HTML?

    Hello, I always worked with RoboHelp for word and would like
    to try and import everything into HTML-Projekts. I don't have any
    experience with it and can't find some functions.
    Is it possible to define a non scrolling region for the
    heading of my html-Topics? If yes, how can I do it and can I define
    a watermark for my headers? (Our headings are white on a dark blue
    logo).
    Thanks for your help in advance!
    P.S.: I still work with RH 5

    Yes it can be a bit of a learning curve but most of us have
    been through it on these forums so you'll find lots of useful
    advice from the participants. As far as the <BODY ONLOAD... tag,
    you have to add this yourself if it does not exist. What the
    article suggests is a bit of good old "under the hood" cowboy style
    authoring. It shouldn't really be attempted unless you are fairly
    proficient with HTML and have taken a backup of your project first.
    As was stated in the link, it is a good idea to get out of the
    habit of wanting those non-scrolling regions.

  • Non-scrolling Option Missing

    I'm running RoboHelp for Word version X.5.0.1 (build 606) and
    version MS Word 2003 SP3. I currently only have the following
    options when I select RoboHelp in the Word toolbar: New Macro
    Hotspot, External Topic Hotspot, HTML Hotspot, and See Also
    Hotspot.
    I no longer have the long list that I used to have, including
    the Set Non-Scrolling option that I really need right now.
    I tried reattaching the RoboHelp.dot file under Tools |
    Templates and Add-ins, but that didn't fix it.
    Does anyone know how I can access these options?
    Thanks!

    Hi Katheryn
    Pleased to be able to help you.
    You were a little bit lucky to get a reply from me.....
    It seems that I managed to retire a few months ago - well,
    I'd been suggesting to my clients that I didn't really want to get
    mixed up in new versions at my time of life and that they should
    move on. (Oh, how right I was! What tender little things RH6/7 seem
    to be!) The forums now seem almost completely absorbed by getting
    the new versions to work and queries about X5 and RH for Word have
    virtually dried up. I was on the point of cancelling my
    subscriptions! Perhaps I'll wait a bit, after all.
    Best

  • Non-scrolling topic - CSS change doesn't take effect

    I am trying to create a non-scrolling region in WebHelp, RH 9. I followed some instructions to change the style tag for the area that I don't want to have scroll to position="fixed." Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to change my output at all and the region scrolls just fine.
    I don't want to go the frame route. Any ideas? Here is the CSS code for the style. It appears at the top of the page, and I want it to stay at the top for all topics.
    H2 {
    font-weight: bold;
    font-size: 18.0pt;
    position: fixed;
    left: 0px;
    right: 0px;
    width: 100%;
    top:-24px;
    background-color: #ffffff;

    Hi all,
    About the need for non-scrolling regions: I just want to mention that as I was very happy to have found ways to add a non-scrolling region to topics for my online help, this once non-negotiable requirement from my client became less relevant when we decided to chunk the information, based on an information architecture, in such a way that the bulk of the text in a topic is never very long. In cases where there is a need for more information, I have used drop-down text to keep the page as short as possible and allow the reader to see the information at a glance. In early user testing of the online help, we did not use non-scrolling regions and the users never noticed it and never required it since they rarely had to scroll the pages to get the information.
    If ever you cannot find a way to make non-scrolling region work with your online help, maybe chunking your information may be something to consider, although I understand that it implies some or a lot of work and that it might not fit your timeline for delivery.

  • Non-scrolling result sets

    In kodo 3 "Kodo now uses non-scrolling result sets by default, and fetches
    all query results up-front by default. See the large result set section of
    the reference guide for how to configure large result set handling if
    needed"
    How does 2.5.3 work? Is there any way to use non-scrolling result sets in
    it? I always use fetch all mode and scrolling result set would be a big
    overhead for me

    Alex-
    If you have "com.solarmetric.kodo.DefaultFetchThreshold" set to -1, then
    Kodo will always use non-scrolling ResultSets (as well as instantiating
    all the results up front).

  • Non-Editable Regions being edited

    I have created a whole site in dreamweaver with editable
    regions set up as i usually do. In contribute 3 i can edit the site
    no problem, however if it is edited in version 4, my non-editable
    regions have some mm_lock code in part of the javascript. This then
    completely cocks up the layout and i have to go in via FTP to edit
    the site manually.
    Is there some setting in version 4 i am missing? I would post
    this to support but i am not upgrading until i can find a solution
    to this problem.

    Updating the .dwt template file is the easiest way.
    If you want to get rid of the template all together, you can open the child page and choose Modify > Templates >  Detach From Template to edit anything you want.

  • Set smooth scrolling bug when importing

    Hi,
    if I import an HTML article and I set smooth scrolling (here) to both, it will not be activated. I have to enter the article properties a second time and set smooth scrolling again. I'm using the latest v29 tools in InDesign CC. Can anyone confirm this bug?
    Thanks,
    Yves

    Are you viewing this from the Folio Overlays panel, or the Folio Builder?  I get this when viewing in
    the Overlays panel, as its being shown out of context to your actual folio, so you get the entire page
    size with no scrolling.

  • Can't Delete Non-Editable Region in Template?

    Well, I can in existing templates but if I create a new one from an existing page using "Save as Template", when I try to delete a non-editable region in the template, DW won't let me.  I don't know why.  Aaaargh!
    It's my understanding I should be able to edit anything in a template.  I've tried existing DW and restarting.  I've tried using other pages as a basis for the template.  Every template I create won't let me delete non-editable regions.  I'm highlighting the non-editable region and pressing the delete key.  I can't delete.

    burro_mail wrote:
    Not sure DW is doing what you describe...
    But I am certain you could remove the region in code view.
    Even if you are a WYSIWYG-er and not a big code-head, it should be pretty easy to remove the region markers and everything between them...
    Trust me, it is.  I'm wondering if the problem is associated with the fact that the source page that I saved as a template was based on a template?  I just noticed that this new template refers to another template.  I'm thinking that means the other template is controlling what I'm trying to do in the current template.
    That's it.  I just tried saving a template under a different name (still retaining the correct template file extension) but did not do the save as template.  Now I can completely edit that template.  So you if you save a page that is controled by a template, as a template, that new template is controlled by the previous template.
    I've got a headache now.

    Hey BSK,
    There are 2 ways to write data references, one more formal
    than the other.
    Short: {nodename}
    Formal: {dsname::nodename}
    The formal version will always work.
    The short version works when there is only one data set on
    the region or, WHEN IT IS LISTED FIRST.
    If you have a region with multiple datasets, data references
    that come from the data set that is NOT first must use the formal
    notation. This assures that we can distinguish between the data
    sets, in case of duplicate node names.
    So, for those data refs that come from emailData06, make them
    {emailData06::nodename}
    Make sense?
    Thanks,
    Don
