Set optional field item category text in component material in PO Subcont

I would like to set field item category text (MDSB-POSTP) in PO subcont - component material. could anyone help me with the IMG configuration steps?

if we using item category "L"(subcontracting) for PO, we have to fill component (tab material data). In component view, there's one field called item category text. and currently set as display. I would like to change the field into optional. please advice.

Change item category of BOM component

Hi,
Our user wanted to change the item category for BOM components through transaction IB12 using LSMW.Wanted to confirm whether it is possible to change item categoryof BOM component from "N" to "L" through LSMW.What exactly will be effected because of this change?And the steps to change the item category from "N" to "L" for the list of BOM component using LSMW.

Hi Rubina,
N is non stock item
L is stock item
You have to make sure why the business warants to chnage the item category.
To answer the question:
It is possible to chnage the item category from "N" to "L" through LSMW (Provided depends on the number of components used in a BOM. If the number of items exceeds to multiple screen, then you have to think of developing BDC)
The effect will be: with item category "N" if the material is used in the order, based on the configuration the system shall automatically trigger the purchase requisition. With item category "L" it is assumed as stock is available and taken care by MRP program.
Suppose if it is material BOM:
          A. Use T.code: CS02 in LSMW recording
          B. Provide information like Material number, Plant, BOM usage
          C. In the item level change the item category from N to L
          D. Save the recording
          E. I hope you know the remaining LSMW process steps

Sorry I am not convinced on this biz scenario what has been posted. Why to enter just the text in the form of PO and maintain record in the system . One can send a word document or simply put a call to outside party for sending legal document.
Moreover it hardly matters whether the PO is of less value or nil value. In standard also we use free goods in PO also. SAP, I think without any specific reason will not provide item category Text "T"- there must be some strong reason for it.
Also please note that item category text T is also allowed in scheduling agreement for document type LP and LPA. then simply entering text in scheduling agreement for item category does not make any business sense.
If anybody has come across the biz scenario, please share in the forum. I searched and went to thread on similar topic but could not find any convincing answer on this.

Change Sales Order Item Category for a configurable material with config

My problem is related to Variant configuration. We have a requirement that depending on the ordered quantity and required replenishment lead time the business scenario for a configurable will get changed. that means some characteristics value selection will trigger the business scenario to be followed, whether it will be Make to Order, Buy to Order or 3rd Party drop-ship order. and the business process to be followed will be triggerd by the Item category to be selected in the sales order line item.
so , the requirement is to change the item category of the sales order line item with the carecteristiocs value selection in the variant configuration screen. As we know, when ever the material is getting entered in to the sales order line item, depending on the Item category group in the material master data the item category in the sales order line item used to get determined. after that when we are selecting the characteristics value set in the variant configurator, systen shoud chage the already determined item category of the sales order.
Hope I have clearly furnished my problem and requirement. Can anyone show me the way to fulfil my requirement. Any further clarification requirement to understand and resolve the issue is cordialy appriciable.

But as u mentioned the way to make the non editable field into editable one. But that will applicable in case of manual chage. But can it be applicable for changing the Item category by using Object dependency??
Actually in our scenario, for some of the item category that field in the sales order line item remains editable. we have tested with that also. Once the item category is getting determined, object dependenct is not able to modify the item category in the sales order line item.
I have explores something, if I include PSTYV field in VCSD_UPDATE, will it work? VCSD_UPDATE is the table that contains field of sales order can be modified with the usage of object dependency.
Please let me know ASAP.

hi
item cat usage is basically one of the factors that determines the item category.
this is assigned in item cat determinmation VOV4,
as you can see there USAGE field basically suggessts, the nature of the item.
for example if the item is normal item,the usage field is left blank,
if it is a free item, then usage will reflect 'free".
like wise for text item "text"and so on.
from this you can understand what is the charecter of the item.

I'm going to use inbound delivery for purchase order, so I'm going to do it as follows:
1) Create a new "item category group Y001"
2) Create a new "item category Y001 (copy from ELN then change the movement type to 101, and set it relevant to putaway)",
3) Replace the item category group in the material master with Y001
4) Determine the item category via transaction 0184 as the following ways:
     "Delivery Type" EL    +
     "Item Category Group From Material Master" Y001    +
     "Item Usage" V     +
     'Item Category Of The Higher-Level Item"
     ==> "Determine New Delivery Item Category" Y001
My question is, If I change the item category group in the material master, is there any effect to SD part?

Is it possible to change Item Category of BOM component

Hi,
We are in the process of implementing Guided Structure Synchronization (GSS). GSS helps in Syncing Source BOM (Engineering BOM) to Target BOM(Manufacturing BOM).
During the creation of EBOM, designer may not have complete information about the Item category, So by default it is set as "L"(Stock Item). When MBOM is created, It should have correct Item category. Using GSS, while synching operation from EBOM to MBOM, Item category is also copied and it is not allowed to change.
Is there any way to change the Item category before Sync operation in GSS.

BADI used is /PLMB/GSS_FIELDCONTROL .
    Conflict is created based on Postion type. SAP recognizes this conflict and gives conflict in Reconsliation workbench.
    When user solves this conflict , BADI /PLMB/GSS_ACTION for our customer defined Action.
     In this Implementation , Target Vertex would be deleted and New Vertex is created.
    Key Mappings has to be adjusted with new Vertex.
   I have seen some side effects of this Solution. I am trying to solve them.

Dear Ravi Varma,
Please copy the standard ITEM CATEGORY based on your scenario and then save in VOV6.
Assign the same for your document type in VOV4.
Another important thing you have to keep in mind is you have to include this NEW ITEM CATEGORY in the copy controls as well.
(in VTLA & VTFL)

Missing Item Category Group data in Material SD data in CRM

Hi crm experts,
Please help us. We are trying to identify what's the rootcause of the problem we experienced in CRM regarding the Item category group. We are maintaining material master in ECC and it will be replicated in CRM via middleware. The data item category group is properly maintained in ECC but when we checked in CRM, only 3 of the sales areas have it.
Sales Area 1 - YES
Sales Area 2 - NO
Sales Area 3 - YES
Sales Area 4 - YES
So we will do a request load for the data to show also on Sales Area 2.
Item category group were maintained in the ff tables:
ECC table TPTM
CRM table CRMV_ITEM_CAT_GR
Can you please let us know how we can pin point this problem so that this will not happen again? We want to apply a permanent solution if there is. Hoping for your kind assistance. Thanks!

Error setting the selected item in a dropdown component in a BPM

Hi,
The first step in the process is a human step where it's possible to select country in a dropdown box. The second step is also a human step where I try to display the same context that was selected in the first step.
I use the "merge" operation in the mapping, but the item that I select in the first step in the process is not selected in the second step in the process.
Does anyone know how to solve this?

Only simlple types are supported in WD for EHP1 (Binary, boolean, byte, date, decimal, double, float, integer, long, short, string, time, timestamp)
No further Dictionary Types supported
(for example: currency)

For Z Po order type - Item category field is greyed out.

Hi MM Experts,
I am an ABAper working on PO creation with respect to PR( PR with account assignment N) for Z order type . The requirement includes to update item category of PO with B , But for this Z order type both PO transaction Create/Change(ME21/ME22) the field item category has been greyed out ( Non editable). I checked the SPRO setting for this order type ( SPRO-MM->Purchasing-PO->Define Screenlayout at document level .The field item category has been made as optional.
Please let me know why this field ( item category still showing in display mode) and How to make it as editable .I need it as editable in ME22 to implement the new requirement of updating that field with item ategory B.

Hi All,
Since I was creating a PO with respect to PR - after running through all the screens the item category field was becoming non editable, But during the create in one of screen the field item category was still editable, so I updated the item category with B during the create and created the PO, I have used BDC to do the same and its working fine. I can define the different Category value by IB01 or IB02,then I can select them at the Tasklist's component table.But sometimes I need batch input such as LSMW,so pls kindly tell me how to setup it,thanks!

Hi,
BOM is created with some component and item category.
In task list when you go to component, in normal case one selects and copies BOM over there by clicking component selection button.
Once BOM is copied over there the BOM item category will get copied. As it is BOM item category in Task list it is greyed and it will get copied automatically from BOM.
You specify item category required by you in IB01 or IB02 and then use that BOM in task list. Go to componenet tab and click component selection button. Once BOM is copied over there the BOM item category will get copied

Hi,
NBF is standard field selection Key for PO document type NB.
In standard SAP, we can't create a new item Category and we need to use existing 10 item categories.
In order to use differant field setting for your item category, you need to define new field selection key for a new PO document type.Then assign the new Field selection key for the document type and allow only required item category for that document type.
