Set or Change Device Name in Profile Manager

Hello,
Is it possible to set or change the device name of an enrolled device using profile manager?
I notice WGMs old 'Set computer name to computer record name' is still there under Login Window options, but I couldn't find away to actually change the record name.
Am I missing something obvious?

The only way I have found to change the device name in Profile Manager is to change it on the device itself, then wait for the updated info to reach PM.
The option to "set the computer name to computer record name" will set the computer name to the name of a computer record that matches in Open Directory (based on MAC). This option would allow you to change the device name in Profile Manager in a round about way... change the computer record name in OD, wait for the change to make it's way to the computer, then back up to the Profile Manager. In my experience, this doesn't take too long.

  • The number next to a device name in profile manager

    Hi all,
    We are still using Lion Server and yesterday I was pushing some new settings to our managed devices and I noticed some of the devices have a number next to the device name like this......
    What does it mean?

  • Change SSID name in Guest Manager Receipt

    Requirement:
    To use the same Guest manager receipt in different sites for different SSIDs' with a single guest self-registration page.
    Solution:
    Every guest self-registration page is mapped to a guest manager receipt. The default guest-Manager receipt takes the SSID value from Configuration --> Guest Manager --> Receipt Options --> Site SSID name. Since, we can define only one SSID name in Guest Manager configuration,  it is not possible to use one guest manager receipt for two different SSIDs' (in different sites).
    We have to create a new guest-manager receipt and hardcode the guest SSID name for the respective site and link it to a newly created self-registration page.
    Configuration:
    I. Login to ClearPass Guest. Navigate to Configuration--> Receipts --> Templates. Click on the default GuestManager receipt template and click duplicate. A copy of Guest Manager receipt will be created. Highlight the copy and click on edit.
    There are two places where we have to change the guest SSID name in the receipt.
    1. WiFi Network Name (at the beginning of the receipt) &
    2. Connect to the wireless network (Step: 2 under Guest account and Wi-Fi Instructions).
    1. To change WiFi Network Name, scroll down to the User-Account HTML and search for line that starts with "WiFi Network".
    We could see the below default code:
    <h3 style="font-family:{$g_email_font_family|escape};font-size:20px;line-height:20px;font-weight:bold;color:#{$g_email_network_text|escape};margin:0;padding:0;">
        WiFi Network: <span style="color:#{$g_email_network_name|escape};">{$site_ssid|escape}</span>
                    </h3>
    Replace the highlighted text in the above code with the guest SSID name as required. In the below example, I've used the guest SSID name as "Test".
    <h3 style="font-family:{$g_email_font_family|escape};font-size:20px;line-height:20px;font-weight:bold;color:#{$g_email_network_text|escape};margin:0;padding:0;">
        WiFi Network: <span style="color:#{$g_email_network_name|escape};">Test</span>
    2. To change the SSID name under Guest account and Wi-Fi instructions,  scroll down to the User-Account HTML and search for line that starts with "Connect to the wireless network".
    We could see the below default code:
    <li{$smarty.capture.li_1}>
        <img src="images/bullet_{counter}.gif" width="26" height="20" style="margin-bottom:-4px;" />Connect to the wireless network: <span style="color:#{$g_email_inst_bold|escape};"><strong><em>{$site_ssid|escape}</em></strong></span>
                </li>
    Replace the highlighted text in the above code with the guest SSID name as required. In the below example, I've used the guest SSID name as "Test".
    <li{$smarty.capture.li_1}>
        <img src="images/bullet_{counter}.gif" width="26" height="20" style="margin-bottom:-4px;" />Connect to the wireless network: <span style="color:#{$g_email_inst_bold|escape};"><strong>Test</strong></span>
                </li>
    After the above change, click 'save changes' at the bottom.
    II. a. Navigate to Configuration --> Pages --> Guest self-registration to create a new self registration page. If we plan to use same guest self-registration page, highlight the existing page and click on Duplicate. Select "Same as Original" for Parent radio button so that newly created form fields will be independent of the existing form fields. We can also use "Create a new self-registration form" hyperlink if we do not want to duplicate the existing page.
    b. After creating a new self registration page, highlight and click on Edit and click on "Advanced Editor". Navigate to Email delivery section. For the option, 'Email receipt'  choose the newly created guest manager receipt from the drop down.
    After the above changes, click 'save changes' at the bottom.
    Verification
    1. Configuration --> Guest Manager that shows default value "Aruba" for SSID name under receipt options:
    2. Copy of the guest manager receipt template that shows modified SSID name:
    3. Duplicate of the default guest self-registration page:
    4. Email Delivery section:

    The only way I have found to change the device name in Profile Manager is to change it on the device itself, then wait for the updated info to reach PM.

    I'm not really sure but I think yes.  Blocking a contact will only prevent them from contacting you or sending you contact request.  The visibility of your account information depends on how you set it, if you had them visible to public or to your contacts only.

  • Change Server URL in Profile Manager Enrollment Process?

    It appears devices learn the IP or URL of their MDM server during the Profile Manager enrollment process. It must be part of the configuration profile sent to the device. It also appears this is based on the machine's host name. Is there anyway to change that URL - as when the host name of the server changes? If so, where are the files located on the server.
    I believe in the previous iPhone Configuration Utility there was a "server URL" and "Check in URL" that could be set. We can't seem to find any parameters in Profile Manger to control the same. Thanks for any help.

    Hi Jonathan,
    I stumbled on your responses because I was looking for an answer to my own issues.
    I am like most just a lay user, although wth 20 years Mac experience.
    The issue is as folllows:
    I set up Lion Server and I host a Wiki page and I try to run Profile Manager.
    I do not have a registered host name. The hostname is server.name.private.
    In order to reach the server from the Internet my clients use a DynDNS hostname such as "name.dyndns.org".
    My clients can access the Wiki pages with no problems and Safari shows https://name.dyndns.org in the address line.
    However, if they want to connect to Profile manager, the server re-directs https://name.dyndns.org/profilemanager https://server.name.private/auth?redirect=https://server.name.private/devicemana gement/api/authentication/callback
    which the client's browser cannot resolve because the internal hostname is unknown to public DNS servers.
    Why does Profile Manager redirect in the first place ?
    Can this issue be resolved without obtaining an "officially registered" hostname ?
    Thank you for helping.
    Regards,
    Twistan

  • Devices enroll but do not appear in the Devices section in Profile Manager

    Hi,
    I am able to download and install the enrollment file, and when I check the devices enrolled by a user I can see the device attached to that users name, but when I click the link arrow next to the device name or go into the devices page, the device doesn't appear. Anyone have a solution for this? It's preventing me from managing any devices as it appears as if they are not there. I also notice that the Enroll button is still there in "my devices" after successful enrollment.
    Thanks,
    David.

    Just in case anyone else get's this issue I managed to fix it by first enrolling the device then entering a place holder for the device in profile manager using that devices serial number. Then it seems to recognise the device

  • How to change device name in Windows Explorer

    Hi Guys
    I need some help please, my Ipad 2 was updated on another friends machine. now when i plug it into my PC windows picks it up as his device name even though the devine name is corect in iTunes. Can anybody please help with correcting this?
    Thanks

    I have the same problem, and I can say none of these methods work.
    I have the device named properly in iTunes (it's the same name I can see in settings -> general -> about), however the original name given to the device is still seen in Windows Explorer.
    Apparently it is some unexpected "feature" Apple has forgotten to take care of.
    Let's hope they change it in the next iOS update...

  • How do I change device name after connecting to old machine?

    That's right, I've gone ahead and connected my new power book to my old dual G5 in order to get the information onto the new machine.
    Now, my new machine has my Dual G5 name as it's device name.
    How can I change this so my power book has the correct name?

    I wish that was it, but that only changes the name of the "Hard Drive", not the actual device name.
    In other words, when browsing the network there's 2 computers with same name.
    Any other suggestions?

  • How to change device names?

    This questions revolves around three V490s.
    - All are connected to the same raid.
    - All have cards in the same slots.
    - One box had only 1 internal drive, two came with 2 internal drives.
    - All have stmsboot enabled.
    - When doing a format, 2 boxes show the paths to be the same (ie, c6txxxxx), 1 box shows the path to be different (ie, c4txxxx).
    How do I go about changing the device name so that the c4txxx on the one box matches the c6txxxx devices name on the other two boxes?
    - I have inserted a secondary drive into the 1 box, rebooted with -r. No difference.
    - I removed the path_to_inst, rm c4txxx* entries from /dev/[r]dsk, and rebooted with -ras options. No difference.
    - I manually edited the path_to_inst to use same device numbers (entry in 2nd column) as is used in the other 2 boxes' path_to_inst files, rm c4txxx* entries from /dev/[r]dsk, rebooted -r. Still no difference.
    - I tried using a path_to_inst direct from one of the 2 boxes that have the matching device names. No difference.
    I'm quickly running out of options. The device names are supposed to be the same for the Oracle ASM application. Anyone have any ideas or experiences they can share concerning this matter? Thanks.

    In single user mode, edit /etc/path_to_inst and renumber the device.
    You probably want to halt and do a boot -r after this.
    The best way to figure out which lines to change.
    Run format and note the device path for the controller in question.
    Then search for that line in the file.
    This is all completely unsupported and at your own risk. You might want to experiment on a test server before doing it to a machine you care about....

  • Changing Fabric name in Fabric Manager

    How do you change the name of the Fabric in the Logical Domains section of Fabric Manager?

    This is also something I'd be interested in seeing. I've got one fabric named correctly, the other after a switch dump took the name of a middle tier 9216i and won't switch back, despite the fact that I changed the principal priority on the 9509 to 1 and then made it the principal with a disruptive(nondisruptive didn't work either).
    Cisco documentation is woefully inadequate in certain areas....Also, the error of fabric merge failed, "member mismatch" comes to mind.

    How can I change the device name of my iphone? I have the original iphone.

    When your iPhone is plugged into iTunes, just click the name of your phone. Wait a second, and click the name a second time. It should allow you to now edit the name of your phone.

  • HTPC lcd display changing device names at boot

    I'm having troubles with configuring LCD panel on my HTPC casing lcd display.
    It is constantly swapping between /dev/lcd0 and /dev/lcd1 device names every boot, making it work only sometimes, when the device name matches the device described in LCDd.conf
    I have Antec Veris remote casing with imon driver. Is there possibility to force system to use only either /dev/lcd0 or /dev/lcd1

    Use udev rules to make a persistent name (like how /dev/sda can also be found in /dev/disk/by-*) and then direct LCDd.conf to that persistend name rather than /dev/lcd*

  • HT1212 How do I change owner name and profile to iPad I just traded up for a new iPad Air?

    I just bought a new iPad Air and wish to give my old iPad 2 to my brother. How do I delete my owner profile and appropriate data, and reset the old iPad to his owner name & profile?

    If it's registered to your account then you can log into your account and remove it : https://supportprofile.apple.com/ - your brother can then register it to his account.
    For the content that's on the iPad (you've copied off everything  that you want ?) then you can log out of your account by by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store, remove your iCloud account from it (Settings > iCloud > Sign Out) and remove all of your content and put it back to factory defaults via Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings. Your brother should then be able to set it up with his account and put his own content on it.

  • Change Device Name?

    Interestingly, all three of the previous replies are correct, yet confusing to interpret. You have a renaming problem for two different types of equipment: 1) a camera, which is a "device" as per Xfinity (and not a "zone/sensor"), and 2) one or more infrared sensor(s) (a "light sensor" as you have called it), which is a "zone/sensor" as per Xfinity. So, your light (infrared) sensor(s) is(are) ZONE/SENSOR(s), and your camera is a DEVICE. Cable guy is correct in that only a technician can rename a ZONE/SENSOR. However, you can rename a camera with either the touchscreen or the website by choosing "Settings", then choosing "Home Devices" (NOT  "Zone/Sensors"), and then "Cameras". As for your sensor problem, I suspect you might be able to have a technician rename the infrared sensors over the phone, rather than paying for a home service call. But one never knows these days! Good luck!

    If you go to your touchscreen and go to the Settings menu, you should be able to access "Home Devices," which should lead to the ability to edit the names of your devices.  Only technicians can Add new devices of this kind but that will change in the coming months (self-install of lights, cameras and thermostats is coming soon).
