  • Take Ownership of this item link

    Hi
In catalog manager, in item properties, there is a link "Take Ownership of this item" which changes the owner of an object as the current user. However, eventhough I limit it only to Presentation Server Administrators group through privileges setup, each user still sees this link and be able to use it. What can I do to prevent users seeing this link, except the setting in privileges.
    Thanks a lot.

Catalog Manager is a powerful tool - it should only be made available to report developers / administrators that need to use it. Most users should not have access to the tool - in fact the only access for most people should be through their web browser into Dashboards/Answers etc.
If used in 'offline mode' then you have access to any item in the catalog, 'on-line' access should restrict to you to the items that you have permission on.
I suggest that you review the catalog manager section of the Presentation Services Administration guide and particularly note the need to take backups before you make changes as there is no 'undo' available!

  • Set "Ignore ownership on this volume" to be on by default

Hello, I have a MacPro loaded with 10.5 server that I use frequently for backing up customer data via USB or Firewire. The MacPro is in a locked room and is relatively isolated from the network. I am looking for a way to set "Ignore ownership on this volume" to be checked by default for any/all drives I plug into the machine. This would be a huge time save for me. Thank you!

    Hi Alfredo,
I can't test this at the moment, but I have a theory!
One would think that setting iTunes to a FW Dive would need to change the Permissions to control Sharing of iTunes content.
My iTunes was set to another internal drive and had the same Ignore unchecked and owned by system, I unchecked it and changed it back to my boot drive, the Get Info change Me to owner & kept the Ignore checked... setting it back to the other Drive did not change those settings, but I suspect that a Reboot would... how else could Apple control Sharing of songs?

  • Help Incomplete Time Machine Backup and I can't set ownership options

Two days ago my iMac HD stopped working and I decided it was time to upgrade my machine so I purchased a new iMac with Mavericks installed. I seem to only have a partial Time Machine Backup located on my NAS drive, so I read various threads about how to manually retrieve files from the .inprogress file. I was able to browse the package contents and when I navigated to Macintosh HD the folder was greyed out and when I attempt to open the folder it looks empty. When I select get info the Macintosh HD folder shows almost 80GB and over 160,000 files inside. I tried copying the folder onto the desktop which failed and also onto an external drive formatted the same way as the NAS - Mac OS Extended (Journaled, Case Sensitive). Everytime I try it says something along the lines of me not having the ownership rights to copy the file over.
I tried going to the NAS drive and the mounted sparsefile and couldn't figure out how to get the ignore ownership on this volume option. When I go to Disk Utility it says Owners Enabled Yes, I can't figure out how to turn that off to let me copy the file over. I tried some recommendations about creating an Alias to Macintosh HD and also setting up Automator actions Get Selected Finder Items > Get Folder Contents > Open Finder Items > Copy Finder Items (to desktop or external drive) both of these failed.
I also don't understand why I can't view the files inside the greyed out Macintosh HD as get info shows many files inside. The sharing and permissions already says everyone can read. Is there anyway I can recover some of the files? It would be so great!
    Thanks for helping me.

I solved the problem and I hope this solution can help others with incomplete Time Machine Backups.
    1. I made sure hidden files were shown by pasting the following line into Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -boolean true ; killall Finder
    2. On NAS drive I have a folder called Time Machine Backup and inside that folder it lists the different users with Time Machine Backups. I double clicked the user with the incomplete time machine backup to mount it.
    3. Once mounted there should be a folder called backups.backupdb > machine name > dateandtime.inprogress. I right click that .inprogress file and selected show package contents. This lead to another folder randomly named with numbers and text. Inside that folder you should see a greyed out Macintosh HD folder. The date of the greyed out Macintosh HD folder might read something like January 24th, 1984. This appears to be the date that the Macintosh 128k was first introduced. I read on another thread that the creation date of the folder is incorrectly set after a crash resulting in the greyed out folder.
    4. Due to the NAS having ownership issues I was not able to drag either the greyed out Macintosh HD or the folder above it to an external drive or the desktop of my new computer. Automator didn't work either. Here is what did work: I trashed the folder with the greyed out Macintosh HD inside from the NAS and dragged it from the trash onto my desktop. The move took a few hours to complete and the files were now all successfully on the new computer.
    5. Once on the desktop the Macintosh HD folder was still greyed out. The solution was to select in the finder: View > Show Path Bar, then search for any file you remember inside your backup. For example I searched the word download and files inside the greyed out Macintosh HD folder showed up. Left clicking the file confirmed the path, that it was from the greyed out Macintosh HD folder. Now you can simply right click one of the folders in the Path Bar and open in new tab if you have Mavericks. I still couldn't directly open the Macintosh HD folder in a new tab, but I could open any of the subfolders inside in a new tab, including the users which lets you access all the backup files. I tested in Mountain Lion that you can also choose Open in Enclosing Folder by right clicking the file that you searched for or right clicking the folder in the bottom of the Path Bar.
    6. Once I was done organizing backup files, I turned off hidden files by pasting this line into Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -boolean false ; killall Finder
This took me days to figure out how to make use of an .inprogress file and greyed out Macintosh HD folder.
    Hope this helps!!!

  • Error when deleting file: Could not find this item. This is no longer located in ...

We are setting up a new Windows 2012 server. Users access this server using a 'terminal services'. We have mapped some folders from a legacy server (different domain). Using group policy preferences, we map this folder as a drive for a user.
When user wants to delete some files, he get's the error: 'Could not find this item ..' The error is displayed to the user and it looks like the file can't be deleted. But when I press the F5 (refresh) button, the file is gone. My problem is very similar
to a problem in the following post: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/042e747a-0e25-4190-b0a2-82f3e9635eb0/can-not-delete-file-error-is-could-not-find-this-item?forum=w7itprogeneral
When I create 'txt' (or 'pdf', 'zip') file, i can delete it without the error. When I create 'xlsx', 'docx', 'pptx', 'bmp', 'jpg', I get the error.
Does somebody have an idea, how can I fix the cause of this problem? (I can't tell to users to hit the F5 button everytime when they face this issue)
Thank you for your help in advance!

    Hi,
Please check if the problematic files’ filename ended with a dot. If so, you could refer to the article below to troubleshoot the issue:

  • Affinity queries ("customers who bought this item also bought...")

    Hi,
Do you know the feature of many web shops, where you can see similar items (i.e. "customers who bought this item also bought...")?
A simple approach would be to return similar items from the latest orders. What I would like to list are products, which were bought BY MANY OTHER CUSTOMERS in addition to the origin product. So I have to somehow count the matching products from all orders. How can I do this?
Has anybody thought of a way how to select meaningful similar items to a product?

You might also look at Oracle data Mining, though I haven't used it myself. From the documentation:
    4.2 Association
An Association model is often used for market basket analysis, which attempts to discover relationships or correlations in a set of items. Market basket analysis is widely used in data analysis for direct marketing, catalog design, and other business decision-making processes. A typical association rule of this kind asserts that, for example, "70% of the people who buy spaghetti, wine, and sauce also buy garlic bread."

  • Here's a fix for "This item cannot be updated because it has been changed by another user or process"

    https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/System-Center-Service-fca7af29
A few months ago on the Technet Gallery, I submitted this custom control to be used on SCSM console forms. The purpose of the control is to eliminate the "This item cannot be updated because it has been changed by another user or process" error
message that we all have seen at least once (a day :) ).
The details are in the gallery description (along with installation instructions for existing forms and your own custom forms).
Here's a "short" description (nothing I ever post here is short :) ): This is a custom control that can be applied to an SCSM form like the Service Request form or Windows Computer form or your own custom form built with the authoring tool or Visual
Studio. When you click "OK" or "Apply" on the form, this control scans the form and Service Manager's database for any changes to the object you have open. If a property that _you_ have changed on the form was _also_ changed in the CMDB
(by a workflow or another user), this control will present a dialog box letting you know what happened. It will also let you choose which value to keep (yours, theirs, or the original value).
Just as importantly (and important in a greater percentage of cases), if a workflow changes a "background" property (like FirstAssignedDate) while you have the form open and you click OK, the control will detect the change and allow the form submission
to go through while keeping your changes and the FirstAssignedDate change that the workflow made. You won't get an error message or even a warning. And most importantly, you won't lose your changes.
That's where the "optimistic" part of the control's name comes from. It applies optimistic concurrency control to SCSM forms, while also providing an anti-collision interface for you to use so you no longer lose any of your changes.
Furthermore, this control will work on related items that are opened in memory; for example, the activities on a Service Request. So if you change an activity's title while the workflow engine sets it in progress, you won't get an error. The activity will
be in progress and will get your new title when you click OK or Apply.
Lastly, (and I admit this part is getting into the deep inner workings of console forms) if your form loads a sub projection at run time (to the root object) this control will detect the load and treat that sub projection as if it were apart of the original
    form all along.
I've gotten a little feedback about this control, but I'd like to get more since it's a work in progress. So, I'm announcing it here on the forums. Please give it a try and let me know if you have any questions. I'll be happy to answer them here. Thanks,
    folks!
Oh, and to answer the most common question right away: It's free. There is no paid version or anything like that. This is something I built for the SCSM community.

    Great job!
    Will definitely try it out.
    Best regards,
    Marcus

  • Unable to Delete Folder, Could not find this item

Currently, I'm having problem deleting an old Folder. Previously, I used its parent as a shared folder, but one day when I tried to clear that folder there is one folder that has duplicate. The problem is one of them (the old one) can't be deleted even after
I deleted all files/folders in that folder, I can't remove/rename that folder (could not find this item) not even with cmd as Administrator. I've tried to defrag my Windows Sever 2012 but the problem still persists. How to fix this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

I had this same problem using Server 2012 Std. I tried various options of taking ownership of the parent folder because the Security properties of the folder I was trying to delete were blank, using CMD and Dir /x etc. I even tried sharing
the parent folder and then using Server 2008 R2. None of them worked. When I tried Dir /x Server 2012 doesn't show the 8 character filename with the ~1. I tried typing it in myself, but that didn't work either. I then found that there was a space at the end
of the folder name. I then tried all the CMD options again using a space, still no luck. Then I finally stumbled upon this solution:
    Open CMD and then type:
    rd /s "\\?\D:\bad\folder\path "
example: rd /s "\\?\D:\Sharedata\folder1\folder2 " - note the space after folder2 as per the space in the folder name. Obviously D: is the drive that has the folder on it.
    This worked for me
I've had a similar problem as detailed above; a power shell script that I wrote incorrectly tested for the existence of a directory and created multiple instances of the same directory.
I can confirm that the post from Rayza73 works like a charm!
@Rayza73:  First up thanks for the information.  Would it be possible for you to describe how the command is able to find and delete the directory?
    Many thanks

  • Cannot watch movies - all say 'This item is currently being modified.  Please try again later.'

Every movie I try to watch on my AppleTV results in a message stating 'This item is currently being modified.  Please try again later.'  How can I find a fix for this issue?  I am in the UK.  My iTunes account is a US account.  Is that the issue?  This does not cause me any problems with any other aspects of the AppleTV and has never been an issue when using iTunes on my PC and iPad.  Help!

Make sure the country location on your appletv is set to match the country on your iTunes account. Fixed it for me after months of struggling with the same problem.

  • How do I install an operating system on my erased hard drive when I get the error "This item is unavailable"?

So i erased my MacBook's hard drive trying to get a fresh, clean system install. After erasing, I tried to install a new OS X with the Recovery drive but after entering my Apple ID it simply says "This item is currently unavailable, Please try again later." So now my computer has no operating system on it, and I can't get one.

You may need to do the following. Check this to be sure you can: Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery. If you are OK:
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.
If the above does not work, then you have to first install Snow Leopard:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
You can now upgrade from the App Store, but right now Apple's servers are not working for Snow Leopard users, so be patient and keep trying to download Yosemite.

  • How to "Ignore Ownership On This Volume" When Saving File to External Hard Drive?

    Hello,
I just switched over from Photoshop CS3 pc platform to the MAC version, and it gives me the message that I can't save what I've I've just done - I have my photo files on an external Seagate Free Agent Hard Disk - When I followed the instructions to "Select Disk/Choose File/Get Info/Click Disclosure Triangle next to Sharing & Permissions" - Then after I did all of this, there was no option to select "Ignore ownership on this volume." Instead, the only thing it said was, This is read only."
Surely, I don't have to give permission to save each and every file - This is a very serious hobby for me, but I am doing it out of my home, and no one else at this time uses my computer.
Before submitting this request, I called Apple support first, and they tried doing a Disk scan and repair of the permissions, but this was only for the internal Macintosh HD drive, not the external one that is related to this incident.
Thanks For Your Help ahead of time!
Also, this might should be saved for another separate question, but I had to set change my resolution to 1920 X 1200 - The text, etc, was much too large for especially doing anything in Photoshop. This new iMac has a 3.06/4 GB RAM/1 TB internal HD/NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Graphics Card.

    Buko-
To tell you the truth - and I apologize for that statement - I woke up early this morning, and it hit me that I took what Lundberg02 said earlier the wrong way! So, I couldn't wait to get back on and apologize to him and all of you - And I hope that you will forgive me.
When I think about it now, perhaps he is right - This may not have been a pertinent place for me to insert this question. But after spending a long time with Apple about it, and then Seagate - I decided that the only other place I could go was to ask you guys. I thought, perhaps someone here had encountered the same problem when switching from pc to Mac platform. But perhaps I shouldn't have.
Actually, Seagate - I think - solved the problem, at least this erase procedure was working after two hours - until I decided that I'd cancel it, and take it back to Costco for a refund, which I did. And the Seagate rep told me that he didn't blame me, because the drive was getting a little old, and if I used their warranty program, I'd probably gotten a refurbished one, anyway. So, all of this trouble I've put you good people through has gone "for naught".
But hopefully, you'll be acceptable in the future when I ask more applicable questions, when my wheels really start spinning. Otherwise, I probably won't come here that often, anyway. I just enjoy fixing up old black family photos and coloring some of them. And I got the basics down. You know, like cloning, healing, and layering them to death!!
Thanks for understanding - And for forgiving me.

  • Mapping in BPM - set value of collection item

    Hello,
is it possible to set value to exact item of collection in mapping step in netweaver BPM?
I need something like set(<collection_variable>,<item_index>,<item_value>)  - so exact opposite of GET generic function, which gets specific item from collection.
Is it possible in NW BPM?

You dont have to apologize. I didnt meant that as offend.
I appreciate the possibility to discuss that topic with somebody, because discussion itself sometimes shows other perspective to the problem, which can lead to solution
Of course I wrote EJB function to solve that - but I cant believe that it isnt standard solution to that pretty common use case.
I think, that problem lays in very limited implementation of XPath into Netweaver BPM. I will bet my left hand, that in some future SP of BPM will SAP introduce something like this:
    myCollection[1]/notificationId = notificationId
which is standard XPath way to do that

This message was given when trying to update an app I already had installed on the phone. My question is why? Is this a problem with the programming making you connect to the internet via link or Wi-Fi. Or is this a limitation on the Verizon network? Or perhaps a limitation set in place by Apple to prevent long downloads? So I came here hoping to get some hard cold facts. (since Verizon associates would not or simply could not help me)
Personally I could care less if it took 6 hours to download an update. I do however have a problem paying a telephone service an insane rate to get "unlimited data" and not being able to receive unlimited data.

I pay per gigabyte, so dont need these restrictions Apple! Its mine to use.
