Set PDF Action - size limitation

I am using Oracle 9ias and Adobe Acrobat 4
I am creating hyperlinks in a report that call another report (including passing parameters). This works fine in HTML output, in PDF output the link seems to cut off after 259 characters.
Is this a true issue? if so is it an Oracle problem or Adobe problem.
Regards
Nigel

It looks like a problem in acrobat.
I have an adobe acrobat, and I create a weblink URL for an area in a PDF file. I type in more than 300 characters for the URL, then re-edit the URL, I only see 259 characters.
Thanks,
-Shaun

  • PDF file size limited to graphics memory in Reader?

I've created a form (in LiveCycleDS) that allows for an unlimited number of photos to be loaded into it. I put an image into a subform that is duplicated every time a user clicks a button thus creating an unlimited number of images that can hold photos. I then extended it with Reader Extensions.
I'm running into a problem when I try to load a large number of photos into the form.  It gets to about 47MB of images when it locks-up Adobe reader.  I've been able to bring up other applications after the lock-up and when I switch back to Reader the artifacts of the other application are then displayed within Reader.
What is the practical limit to the size of a file created with LiveCycle?  Is it tied to the amount of graphics memory a computer has?  My machine has 2GB of RAM while my video card has only 384MB.  I haven't been able to figure out if there is a file size limitation.

It's entirely normal for file size to increase. PDFs are much more compressed than print streams. For some printers the print size is almost constant (a huge bitmap), for others, it's a collection of graphical items and the size varies enormously. Rarely anything you can do.

  • Is it possible to set the heap size limits in system-wide config?

    Hi,
I am trying to set the JRE heap size limits (-Xms and -Xmx) by using the system-level deployment.properties file. The JRE version is 1.6 update 6.
Normally, I would have something like this in the user-level deployment.properties file:
deployment.javapi.jre.1.6.0_06.args=-Xms64M -Xmx192MHowever, when the same line is put in the system-level properties, it does not seem to have any effect. I have tried different options, also unsuccessfully:
    javaplugin.vm.options=-Xms64M -Xmx192M
    or
    javaplugin.minHeapSize=64m
javaplugin.maxHeapSize=192mIs it not possible to address this setting via system-level properties at all? I am hoping that I will not have to resort to per-user config files.
    Best regards,
    Martin

    Hi Michael,
thank you for your answer. I am sorry, I was unable to find the link to the message 10144001.
My ultimate goal would be setting the system level settings as opposed to settings per applet. I was unable to find any mentioning of "deployment.javapi.jre.X.X.X_XX.args" in the official documentation here: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/deployment/deployment-guide/properties.html

  • .pdf file size limits

Is there a limit to .pdf file size or page count?

Just to confirm what Bill said —
I have several 'boxes' that I use each day.
They range from the typical, adequate, lower price point to a high end 'power-box'.
I have occasion to combine a large PDF document collection into a single PDF having a foot print of just under 800Mb (page count out around 2,000).
When using the 'typical, adequate, lower price point' box this large PDF can only be consumed at a crawl.
Bottom line is that the typical box has less RAM, resources, and integrated graphics rather than a adequately robust independent graphics card.
These boxes just do not provide the 'logistical' support to applications (Adobe Reader, Acrobat, whatever) that render PDFs with the very high file size foot print.
Particularly so if the PDF contains a good dose of graphics.
For the most part I've found that end-users seriously avoid such PDFs.
    Be well...

  • Setting PDF time/usage limits enforced by Reader?

Perhaps I missed it, but is there a way in Acrobat to set time-limits for use of a PDF
(for example, a daily newspaper), such that it will not be readable after several hours
or days? I've seen discussions on how to do that with custom scripting, and perhaps there is a
server DRM option, but I want to have this work on standalone machines,
    disconnected from the network.
Locking the content to a particular machine is a would-be-nice.

There is not a real working solution using standard pdfs and Acrobat Reader itself.
The embedded java script solution can be simply disabled/bypassed using adobe reader itself or by opening pdfs on third party pdf readers.
Pdf ownerguard can be used to do the licensing and apply time limits for offline users.

  • PDF Printer Page Size Limitation

I have been creating documents in Microsoft Publisher 2007 & have been trying to convert them to PDF via the Acrobat PDF Maker. When I am dealing with 11x17 & Poster size (36"x48"), the PDFMaker gets into the Converting Process (60%) then displays the following option:
PDF Page Size in Adobe PDF printer is small causing pages to be split.
Press OK to convert without preserving transparency, bookmarks & links.
Press Cancel to choose a bigger sheet (at least 17.00 by 11.00 inches)
I hit cancel & have changed every Page Size option I can find including:
the Change Conversion Settings, in the Adobe PDF tab in Publisher
Conversion Settings: (Created custom setting with default page size)
Printers & Faxes in Control Panel
    Adobe PDF Printer
    Printing Preferences
Changed default settings & page size
I even changed the output paper 11x17
Yet, it never fails to try to convert everything into letter size. It seems as though it won't do anything over Letter size.
I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard & running Windows XP.
    PLEASE HELP!

WOW! I was amazed to see that within minutes of posting my initial thread, I tried something that works.
Apparently, the only way is will actually convert is if you select the regular Print option in the File tab. Then, change the Printer to Adobe PDF & the Paper Size to 11x17. It also worked for 36"x48" becuase I created a custom size named "Poster", so I changed the paper size to Poster & it worked!
I hope this helps someone. I searched for an existing forum on this issue off & on for MONTHS before creating this thread. If anyone has any suggestions why the Adobe PDF tab /PDF Maker wouldn't work, I'd like to know.

  • How to set the display size of the PDF - in percent?

Hi, I wonder if anyone knows if it is possible to set
the display size of the PDF document, so that it always
shows in, let´s say 100%, in the viewers browser window?
    Much grateful for any help!

In Acrobat, under Document Properties (Ctrl+D), you can edit the Initial
View settings, including the zoom level.

  • Printing multiple sizes from a PDF - Choose page source by PDF page size is set

I've tried this in both Reader 7 and 8.1. What I am experiencing is this:
A user is printing a document which has both legal and letter sized pages. I have selected Choose page source by PDF page size when printing. The document will print all pages based on the first page. If I print just one page, it will print correctly.

The expected behavior would be to print each page on paper according to its page size. For example, if there is a PDF file with five pages, page one and two are letter size, page three is legal, and page four and five are letter. When I print all pages, the entire set prints as letter. Page three should print on legal. If I print just page three alone, it will print on legal.

  • Is there a file size limitation to using this service?

I am working on a large PDF file (26 mb) and I need to re-size the original and mess with the margins. I don't beleive there is an easy way to do this in Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Pro. It sounds like I have to convert the file back to a Word document, do the adjustments there and then produce a new PDF. I have two questions:
Is there a file size limitation to using this service?
Will a PDF to Word doc. conversion mantain the format of the orginal PDF?
    Thanks
    Tim

    Good day Tim,
There is a 100MB file size limitation for submitting files to the ExportPDF service.  As for the quality of the conversion, from our FAQ entitled Will Adobe ExportPDF convert both text and formatting information?:
Adobe ExportPDF is capable of exporting high quality information, but the quality of your Word or Excel document depends on the quality of the PDF file you start with. For instance, if your PDF file was originally authored in Microsoft Word or Excel and converted to PDF using the PDFMaker functionality of Adobe Acrobat®, your PDF file contains a rich set of information that can be captured by Adobe ExportPDF. This includes relative positioning of tables, images, and even multi-column text, as well as page, paragraph, and font attributes.
If your PDF file was originally authored using simpler PDF generation methods, such as “print to PDF” or “scan to PDF” options, Adobe ExportPDF will convert any recognizable text and then use sophisticated conversion intelligence to preserve as much of the page layout as possible.
Please let us know if you have any other questions!
    Kind regards,
    David

  • PDF file size too large

    Hi,
I have a report (6i and 9Ids) which contains an image (stored as a blob in the database (8i)). The size of the image in the database (and as a file) is just 750k. The image is sized to fit on to the A4 report page. If I set the desformat of this report to PDF the resulting PDF output file is 10mb in size. I need to make this report available over the web so this is too large. Has anyone got any ideas as to reducing the output file size?
I have tried the pdfcomp report parameter with no joy.
    Cheers
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
The image you are using might be a JPEG image. In 6i and 9i, while generating the PDF file, Oracle Reports always converts the image to GIF and embed it. This image type conversion increases the file size of the outputimage and hence PDF file size increases. This is fixed in Oracle Reports 10g.
In Oracle Reports 10g, you can select the outputimageformat based on your need, using either:
    1. commandline: OUTPUTIMAGEFORMAT
    (or)
    2. environment variable: REPORTS_OUTPUTIMAGEFORMAT
If your image in the database is a JPEG image, set the outputimageformat to JPEG. Hence, there will not be any image type conversion and the PDF file will be very small.
Please refer to the Publishing Reports manual to know more about the usage of these commandline/environment variable.

  • Is it possible to Default "Choose page source by PDF page size" option in the "Print" dialog box?

I have an SSRS report that is rendered as a PDF file; the report has many columns and utilizes 11inx17in (Landscape) paper. However, once the report is rendered and users try to print the report they have to manually select the 'Choose Paper source by PDF page size' option in order to get the report to print on the correct paper (otherwise it defaults to standard letter size - landscape orientation).
I'm aware of 'Print Presets' functionality; however, I don't believe they apply to this scenario. Is there a config file/registry setting/anything that can be specified to automatically set the 'Choose paper source by PDF page size' print setting = On/True/Checked?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
