Set player / CD / DVD external (USB) in the "boot order" BIOS

Greetings to all! A short buy an external burner ... I "studied" the items in the BIOS of my pc in regard to boot ...
that's how I set
boot options
CD-ROM BOOT <enabled>
BOOT FLOPPY <enabled>
Internal Network Adaptor Boot <disabled>
BOOT ORDER
USB FLOPPY
INTERNAL CD7DVD ROM DRIVE
LAPTOP HARD DRIVE
DISKETTE KEY ON USB / USB HARD DRIVE
! NETWORK ADAPTER
With all these "items" listed according to you, you can connect an external burner and if so, which item should be inserted as "primary"? Boot Options section remains unchanged? Consequently cambiarà only section. Boot Order?
Thanks in advance!

Hello ettore88. I understand that you're wanting to boot from this external (USB) CD drive. Is this correct?
Most notebooks do not support this functionality so it is unlikely that you can boot from this external CD drive.
I suggest leaving the boot order as it is. That way if you ever need to boot from CD/Floppy the option is already there. As long as you do not have a bootable disc in either drive when trying to turn your notebook on you shouldn't see any problems.
If I misunderstood your question or if you have more questions just let me know. Have a great day!

  • Imaging from external DVD player or an external usb hard drive

    Hey,
At the High School i work at we are running Netware 6.0 SP5 and Zenworks
4.01 ir6. We have Zen Partitions installed on most computers to store a
local image in case the the computer needs to be re-imaged.
However, we have a dilemma. Every now and then a hard drive will go in a
    computer.
When we replace the hard drive with a new one, we install the Zen
Partition, do the config and then our last step is to bring down an image.
Unfortunately our only means of dropping down an image is from the network
either through normal imaging or through multicast sessions.
When we drop an image down from the network which takes up network
bandwidth, it causes slow downs on the users computers and they start
complaining. Our network is running at 100mb.
Is there any way possible to image from an external DVD player or an
external usb hard drive when dropping down an image to a new hard drive in
the computer? Currently I have all my Zen Images on the external USB
Maxtor 160gb hard drive and I also have Zen Images burnt to DVD's.
If so, how do I go about doing this and is there documents on doing this?
    Thanks!!!

  • When I try to format an external usb drive  the progress bar only goes half way then freezes up can anybody help please

When I try to format an external usb drive  the progress bar gets to half way then freezes , or stops and  what ever time I allow it never gets any futher on , I have to go to the task bar and click quit  to get on  and the usb drive is not formatted  is there a fault with my disk utility program  I have updated the system
    to lion 10.7.2
    Can anybody advise please

Are these new external drives? How are the currently formatted? Have you tried doing this:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.

  • HP Mini 200-4200 doesn´t give USB in the Boot Menu

    Hello!
I have: HP Mini 200-4200, pr nr B3R47EA#ABU. Hard Disk died, received a new one and I was waitng for the USB info to come. I just received in time my USB stick with the Recovery info on it. (USB Recovery Stick is - 685741-034)
I followed the instructions, but in the Boot Menu Options, it didn´t give me an external disk. It gave me 3 options - Notebook Hard Disk, HP, Network Adapter.
I didn´t know what to do, and thought I´d go out of the system and ask for advice here. Pressed Esc. It then continued into Recovery Manager. So I thought, phew!, it will work out. Now however, it has gotten stuck for about 3hours (it can´t be thinking that long?) in this:
    "Factory image recovery preparations
Did you receive any Supplemental Disc provided with the System Recovery Media? If yes, insert it now; otherwise, click Skip.
    Please wait."
The USB stick has been inserted all this time. Now, after 3 h in the same screen ,I took it actually out for a sec and put it back, no change.
    What´s going on?
(should I press the "skip" button?)
    SOS!
while waiting for a reply, I shut the mini down and went again to BIOS (no idea what I´m doing - but in some post someone said they changed their boot order..went to look that)
In System Conf, Boot Order comes up as this: Notebook Hard Drive, USB DIskette on Key/Usb hard dis, Usb dc/dvd rom drive, !usb floppy (with an exclamation mark!!!) and Network adapter. The Floppy Boot in Boot Options was disabled...I enabled it...just in case.. no idea what it means. After that USB Floppy doesn´t have an "!" on it.
Should I change here something to get it to put USB up as an option? The order?
I have powered up my mini  3 times with the USB stick in one of the 3 slots each time...not sure it´s a great idea, but it just doesn´t give me the option to Boot Menu...???
Now with all enabled in the Boot order...still doesn´t come as an option.
People also talk about Legacy Mode....can´t find it anywhere in BIOS to change any setting?
Oh, and when I pop the USB in a slot to another computer, it starts reading it...but I´m too ignorant and scared to see what then happens, so I just took it out again.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Boot using the option for "USB DIskette on Key/Usb hard disk". This should get you back to the same place as before. If it doesn't, disable the boot from USB floppy option and try again. Since you didn't receive a "Supplemental Disc" with your USB recovery media (and even if you did, you couldn't use it unless you have a USB CD/DVD drive), you will want to press "SKIP" when prompted. Next, just follow the prompts as needed and eventualy Windows will be installed.
Good luck and post back if you run into any other issues.

  • How do I set MacBook to an external display when the plug and play doesn't recognize it?  I am trying to set my Samsung 530 LCD as a monitor but HDMI and VGA cords (and the adaptor for them) doesn't seem to work.

I have tried everything I can find on line but they all claim that the plug and play works, and they don't for me.  I tried the mini dvi to HDMI and a HDMI cord and that was not recognized no matter which unit I rebooted first.  I found someone who said that my Macbook might be too old for the HDMI technology so I returned the cords and went to the VGA cord and adaptor.
I tried this first with the HDMI setup:

I contacted Samsung support and they said I needed to set the display settings to external display on the mac.  I went to the display settings and moved the icon to my status bar.  When I click on search for displays or whatever it says (I'm not at my Mac right now) it does nothing.
    What am I missing?

I am using MAC OSx 10.5.8 (9L31a) as my operation system.  The TV says "No signal.  Check connected device's power, cable connection and source selection."  Seems to me that that goes in hand with what the Samsung tech said about the Mac needing to be forces to use the external display.  But how do I do that?

  • Can Leoprrd install on a external USB HD and boot from it.

    hi, first post here.
I have serveral external usb hd. I wanted to know if i attach one to my aging G4 1 ghz 512 mb mac.
Put in Leopard Install disc in my dvd drive, will Leopard install on the external and boot from it.
this way I could somehow dual booy 10.4 or 10.5... Is this even possible.
Ps I also have a extrnal firewire drive but would perfer to install and boot from the USB port instead.
I know tiger didn't let me do this....but perhap Leopard will.

a Drive Partitioned in GUID will NOT boot to a PPC (G4,G5) machine. you need to Partition the drive using APM. APM will boot on both PPC and intel machines.
A GUID 10.5 startup will be reconized by the system startup prefrerence. but if you try to restart the computer using that startup, it will give you the missing OS icon and then revert back to the system drive.
Also I've noticed that you must be installing from a PPC systme to be able to install on an APM drive. If your on an intel drive, it will force to repartition to GUID before letting you install.
And since PPC doesn't support GUID, you can't install GUID while booted to a PPC.

  • Mini doesn't always connect  bluetooth and external (USB) drives on boot

I have had a new Intel mini for 4 months now (we also have a PPC G5, which we love). In the last few weeks the mini started to not connect my Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, nor recognize some of my USB peripherals when booting up. When this happens, it also makes a repeated "startup sound - bong!" echo when the start button is pressed. I have two external USB drives, one 500GB Phantom and one 500GB WD MyBook. When the Apple logo appears at boot, I can see the activity lights flashing on the drives as the BIOS interrogates the USB connections, but after the Leopard start up desktop appears, the only drive shown is Macintosh HD, the mouse pointer is at the top left of the display and will not move, nor will the keyboard do anything. I have read every post on this subject and tried all of the resets suggested. Sometimes this works after a few attempts, sometimes it takes 6 or more tries - disconnecting all cables, and turning the computer on again and again. Occasionally the WD MyBook drive appears on the desktop, yet still the Bluetooth is unresponsive and the other drive absent. I am getting frustrated having to disconnect everything and trying to boot this thing up, sometimes for one hour or longer before I can use it properly (all of my work is on the external drives).
There MUST be a firmware update for this by now, because I see that I am not the only one experiencing these problems, and this is obviously some problem with how the BIOS is communicating with the bus.

    Hi amyta pdx-
I'd be careful jumping to conclusions or the troubleshooting process may get clouded. For one thing those WD drives are junk and most people using them eventually have problems.
What happens with everything disconnected from the Mac except a mouse connected to a USB port on the Mac and the monitor connected to the video port only?

  • X220: external USB keyboard not detected in BIOS

    Hi!
I use an external USB keyboard attached to the port replicator of my X220. When Windows is booted the keyboard works without any problems. But I cannot use the keyboard pre-boot, e.g. to enter the HDD password after starting up, to configure the BIOS, etc.
I tried all USB ports both of the port replicator and the X220. The keyboard is still not detected by the BIOS (Version 1.20) and there are no BIOS options to enable "USB keyboard support".
Has anyone experienced similar problems? Are there any solutions to get the keyboard detected by the BIOS?

  • Question about modifying the boot order for Lenovo Yoga

I created a bootable USB for crash recovery. How do I configure the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro boot order so that it boots from USB first? Is there some function key I need to press while the laptop is booting up to get some kind of boot screen?

I had used the "Create a recovery drive" option. You find this tool by pressing the windows key and typing in recovery drive, and clicking on the Settings category. This launches the Create a recovery drive application. This tool apparently copies over the recovery partition from the hard drive. Thanks a lot for your help. I will try to press the button on top of the power button and see if I can set it up to boot from the recovery usb drive.

  • How to change the boot order? Frustrated!!!

Guys, I feel stupid.  A frustrating place to be.  Please bear with me if I am doing something stupid.  I added a mSata second drive.  Works fine.  Lenovo X220, Bios 1.16.  PC boots from the new drive.  I don't want an operating system on the new drive, just want it for storage.  So I entered the bios by pushing the blue thinkvantage button and can't find a way to permanently change boot order.  I hit F12 to TEMPORARILY change boot order, every time I boot the PC.  Major PAIN!  I tried to enter the Intel Boot Extension Management Engine, but it needs a password and I don't have a password.  Any thoughts?

That is not the boot list.  Select >Boot to get the boot list.  You're looking in the wrong place.
