Set Print Preset in 10.6.7

I've found several discussion on this around the internet, but they all date at latest 2008 using 10.4 or earlier. In 10.6, this command creates a line (that does not exist prior) in the plist, but does not set the preset:
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.print.custompresets com.apple.print.lastPresetPref myPreset"
I've looked for several solutions, but found none. Can anyone help me figure out how to solve this problem in 10.6.7?

For general speeds issues here's what you want to try:
PRAM/NVRAM Reset: Turn on the computer holding CMD-Option-P-R (Command-Option-P-R) and keep holding until you get a second start up chime (more are perfectly alright)
Clear the caches: Go to each users home folder by opening up finder. Go into the Library folder and find a folder called Caches. Drag that into the trash. Do it for all users, restart and empty trash (files are still active so you can't delete until restart)
Then you want to go into Safari on each User and click on the word Safari in the top right hand corner. Go down to Reset Safari and have everything checked but: Reset topsites, clear history, remove other autofill form text, remove passwords
Shut down your computer, on boot it may be a bit slower because of all the resets it's auto regenerating a bunch of files, but over all your system should be faster
Specifically for you two, the caches folder removal is the most important

  • Color Settings\Colorsync settings don't stick when setting printing presets

    Hello
    Posting this here, instead of in the iPhoto Forum
    In the "Print" dialog box (the dialog box you see after you pass through the iPhoto dialog box - same type of box as with most other OS X applications), there is a down menu to give you access to several categories of settings related to the print job.
    Here of course you can save printing presets (paper type, print quality, color management, etc).
    Why do ColorSync settings under the "Color Matching" dropdown not get saved with the other presets? Every time, the profile setting defaults to "Automatic". Is this a bug or is there something I am not doing correctly? Is there a good reason why they aren't saved along with other settings? Apple on-screen Help says "some settings cannot be saved in a profile, but this would seem to be a very handy thing?
    I use an Epson Artisan 800.
    Alternatively, can someone tell me what the behavior is of the "Automatic" setting?
    I recently profiled the printer and I am just looking for an easy/quick way at the time of printing to apply one of the three profiles based on the type of paper that is being used. I just figured this would be the easiest way to do it? (my question applies to any application - I posted here because this is of particular importance with iPhoto)
    BTW Is it me or is there surprisingly little information online about ColorSync workflows/behavior/relationships in OS X?
    Many thanks for any and all advice.
    Justin

    Hi Scott,
    Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
    First of all please update the RDC version to RDP 8.1 for better functionality. Then try to install below updates for windows 7 and check the result.

  • Ppd - loading & setting print presets

    Hello...can anyone help me with the installation of my .ppd file  presets? I have all of the files (supplied to me by my printer - to  format my pdf files) but do not know where to install them in my system. The goal is to have these pdf settings to be available to me via  Indesign CS2 PC. Right now, I cannot figure out how to have these preset  files show up in the print preset field as an option. Thanks in advance  for any help!

    Around here, ID is shorthand for InDesign.
    Using the settings for your local printer is as likely to give you terrible results with the Chinese press as it is to give you good results. Color management is based on knowing the input conditions (source profiles) AND the output conditions (destination profiles). If you don't have the correct profiles for the press in China, ASK FOR THEM. You cannot produce a PDF with good color, except by accident, without the profiles.
    I also have a client who has had a couple of books printed in China, and there was nothing uncomplicated about it all. It took weeks of repeated asking to get them to provide an output profile. Ultimately, the reprodcution was very good, but I was quite close to telling the client that we would have to send native files in RGB and let the printer do the color conversion there, thereby washing my hands of responsibility for the quality of the color match.  We finally got the profile, but I still sent the native files (in their CMYK space), just in case.
    PDF/X-4 is designed to export a tagged PDF file for further conversion when you don't know the ultimate output conditions (you would leave the images in RGB). This is not supported in CS2, however. You might get similar results, though, by sending a PDF with "no color conversion" and "include all profiles" selected in the output options. Gettng the correct profile would be preferable, though, in my opinion, since it would allow for fine tuning images before the export.
    In any case, I would start with the [Press Quality] preset and make only those modification you need.

  • Printer presets not working in OSX Mavericks

    Hi Apple community,
    since upgrading to OSX Mavericks, the system printing dialog doesn't change the pre-set printing presets after selecting one of them. I made a screencast to show what I mean.
    This is what I already treid:
    - Deleting printer
    - Re-installation of printer
    - Deleting all presets
    - New setup of all presets
    How can I fix this issue???
    Thanks!

    Back up all data before proceeding.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.custompresets.plist
    Right-click or control-click the line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
    from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Desktop, leaving the window open. If there are any other files in the same folder with a name beginning in "com.apple.print.custompresets", move those too.
    Log out or restart the computer. Create a custom preset and test. If there's no change, quit again and put each item you moved back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, delete the items you moved.
    *If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
    from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

    Hi,
    Try saving your settings as a Preset by clicking the Preset drop down and then select Save Current Settings as a Preset.
    Next try changing the settings by selecting the saved preset.
    That allow saving the settings for a specific printer, I assume it may also allow selecting these settings for another printer.

  • Printing presets are not loaded correctly

    Dear community,
    i have the following problems using different printers (Canon MG5200, Epson Workforce WF3620, etc.):
    I saved about 10 own printing presets and when I check on them under "Show presets" they are totally correct. But when I want to use them in a following print job and select them in the drop-down list "Presets" they are not correctly loaded. E.g. "Paper Size" and "Pages" are alternated to thesetting saved in the preset but e.g. the "Duplex Printing" checkbox or the "Print Quality" drop-down list are just left on the setting they were on before.
    Anyone knows that problem and can help me?
    Thanks for your help.
    Greetings,
    Fares from Munich

    Sorry for the delay in responding.
    I was having trouble with presets, too, on my Epson printer/scanner, which is an old machine and the newer driver software does not give the same print setting options that came originally. So I decided to start from scratch. First I used the Epson uninstaller to remove the printer software. Next, reset the print system, then  connected directly to the printer via USB. Ignored the initial offer to download driver software. In the printer panel in System Preferences, clicked + to add the printer. Then the printer was set up by the system. Still connected directly, I made the presets. Make sure to check the box for "All printers" for your presets. These presets should work when you connect your printer on the network instead of USB.

  • Unable to save HP printer presets under Leopard

    I frequently print a colored first page from the manual paper tray and the rest of the document from another tray. Presets previously saved, work flawlessly under Tiger. I am not able to save presets under Leopard - all attempts revert to default settings. Maddening because we do numerous different print jobs - some requiring staples and collating, some with a color first page, some a mix of both. One of a kind -- no problem -- print 50 and you have to set the preset for each copy. AARG!! Solution -- unacceptable!! Boot under Tiger.

    This is a known problem and will most likely require an update form Apple:

  • Printing Presets unavailable?

    There seems to be some presets missing from my print dialogue when in Photoshop.
    In the print dialogue for the printer (that shows up after Photoshop's print dialogue) I expand the dialogue to show the presets. The drop down menu that includes "layout" "paper handling" "cover page" "scheduler" also includes an option "hp deskjet PDE" that is crossed out. Choosing this option produces the following message:
    The bundle "hp deskjet PDE" could not be loaded because it does not contain a version for the current architecture.
    Contact the bundle's creator listed here for the latest version.
    hp deskjet PDE v2.7.1
    As far as I've seen, this only happens in Photoshop. I've tried printing with preview, and iphoto and they both display a full set of presets for this printer.
    The computer I'm working with is new and I just discovered this problem. So it's not a case of "it worked before and it doesn't now."
    I'm a little confused as to where to go from here. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

    Your are running a PPC version of PhotoShop. You need a UB version of the HP Printer driver. Or the other way around. Somehow you did not get the full sent of drivers pre-installed from Apple. Two choices: Upgrade to 10.5.4 and then use the new HP Drivers posted on Apple Software Updates. Or download the UB driver from HP web site.

  • Where are Print Presets in Photoshop (CC 2014)?

    Where are print presets in Photoshop?  (I'm using CC 2014 but the question applies to earlier versions as well.)
    I don't see them anywhere.
    Illustrator has had them for an eternity -- where you can set paper size, printer type, color settings, magnification, etc.
    Where is the same functionality for Photoshop?  And if it doesn't exist -- why not? It makes no sense.

    Yes they are different apps -- one does raster, one does vector - but they share the need to allowing printing from time to time, and there's no reason why the printing interface should be radically different.
    Unquestionably, Print Presets would be very useful in Photoshop.
    I know where all the settings are -- I want to have a preset so I don't have to keep setting the color management and magnification and everything else each time I want to output to a particular printer.

  • JS: How to make a script to print one page at a time and set print job name?

    What I want is to print one page at a time to the printer.
    Document.print(false, app.printerPresets.item(0)) almost get me there. But how do I get it to print page by page? There seems to be no way to set which page to print to printerPreset.
    Also, is it possible to change print job name from the default of using document name?

    >Is there any solution to this other than saving the document to a different name before each page print?
    Here is an altered and abriged version of the script that I use. I use print preset called "PS to PDF" in it, so you should change it to your own.
    if(app.documents.length == 0){
       alert("Please open a document and try again.");
       exit();
    var myFolder = Folder ("~/Desktop");
    var myDoc = app.activeDocument;
    var myNoExtention = getFileNameOnly (myDoc.name);
    var myPrintPrefs = myDoc.printPreferences;
    if (app.printerPresets.item("PS to PDF") == null) {
       alert("Preset \"PS to PDF\" has not been installed");
       exit();
    else {
       myPrintPrefs.activePrinterPreset = app.printerPresets.item("PS to PDF");
    myDoc.sections.everyItem().sectionPrefix = "";
    myDoc.sections.everyItem().includeSectionPrefix = false;
       var stop = myDoc.pages.length;
       var w = new Window ( 'window', 'Printing PS-files' );
       var pb = w.add ('progressbar', [12, 12, 300, 24], 0, stop);
       var txt = w.add('statictext');
       txt.bounds = [0, 0, 200, 20];
       txt.alignment = "left";
       w.show()
    for(var myCounter = 0; myCounter < myDoc.pages.length; myCounter++){
       curPage = myCounter + 1;
       pb.value = curPage;
       var myText = String("Page " + curPage + " of " + myDoc.pages.length);
       txt.text = myText;
       var myPageName = myDoc.pages.item(myCounter).name;
       var cornumber = pagenum(myPageName);
       var myFilePath = myFolder + "/" + myNoExtention + "_" + cornumber + ".ps";
       var myFile = new File(myFilePath);
       myPrintPrefs.pageRange = myPageName;
       myPrintPrefs.printFile = myFile;
       myDoc.print(false);
    w.hide();

  • Problem with printing presets in  LR 4

    Printing presets do not reflect perameters I set or update to in HP 9100 shortcut preferences working in Windows Vista.  I have reloaded the HP application and upgraded from LR 4.1 to 4.2 just in case that was the problem.  I do not know if I had the issue with 4.0.
    I also deleted preset and created a new one.  HP shortcuts always reverts to a different set of preferences then the one I have just established.
    I cannot tell if the problem is with LR or HP.

  • Print Presets!?

    We recently got our hands on a G5 10.4.7 Mac and have set it up just as our (2) G4 OS 10.3.9 Macs are running. All is well...Except when we choose to print to our Rip station for film output the Print Presets pull down menu for "Presets" only lists "standard" instead of "standard" & "mirror/neg" as our (2) G4 display.
    We sent a file to the imagesetter thru RIP using just the "standard" setting and all was fine except the bottom crop marks were missing.
    Is this a problem with just "TIGER" or is there something up with the PPDs? I noticed that in OS TIGER in the Print dialogue box there is a new PDF pull down option (not to mention the "$uppile$" addition) would that mean that I need to do something else to get that "preset" up and operational? I copied all the same settings and preferences as with the other (2) Macs.
    10.3.9 & 10.4.7

    It may be that you did not copy the proper Preference file, or that the 10.3 preference file is not compatible with 10.4. Try setting the proper choices and saving it on the new computer. That should work.

  • Print presets not saving

    I never got very good results from printing in Aperture 2, but Aperture 3 seems to have fixed most of my outstanding issues. So I was trying to set up some print presets. Unfortunately, I create a new preset, select Save Preset from the gear menu and it disappears the next time I start Aperture. I can't even seem to find what file Aperture might be storing these presets in, Library > Application Support > Aperture has a PrintPresets.plist file, but I don't see any of the presets in my print dialog in there, and none of those files contain my preset.
    Is anyone else seeing this? Anything I can try to resolve this? I'm on 10.6.2 with an Epson 3800 if that matters.
    Thanks.

    OK, if the permissions thing doesn't work I do have another fix....if you don't mind 'going under the hood'.
    Your plist thing gave me an idea, so what I did, having confirmed that my file, like yours, did not contain any of my saved presets, was make my own in plist. If you decide to try this please make a good copy of your plist file and keep it somewhere safe before you start, and please understand you do this at your own risk. Having scared you sufficiently it is actually quite easy. Open the PrintPresets.plist file, choose one of the existing presets (they are labelled as items) that is closest to the one you wish to create and copy it. Then click plist to navigate back one level and then paste in your new preset. Rename it (user name) and save, then reopen AP3 to confirm your new preset does in fact show up. Assuming it does then you can go back into PrintPreset.plist and tweak the settings to suit. The one thing that tripped me up briefly was the fact that measurements in the plist file are imperial yet in my copy of AP3 I am using metric, simple enough to convert though.
    Again, this is at your own risk, but it worked a treat for me and now I can strart to print with my own presets in AP3. Wish I'd thought of it earlier.
    Good luck if you decide to have a go
    Take care

  • Aperture 3.0.2 and Printing Presets

    I have updated to 3.0.2 and have 10.6.3. I trashed my Aperture plist and re-created a printing preset. However, the presets do NOT save. The printer always reverts to my default black/white laser printer, even though I selected an Epson R2880 and the paper size always goes back to "Letter". I have the most recent print drivers from Apple for the R2880.
    I have also tried on my MacBook Pro (10.6.3 Aperture 3.0.2) with only one printer installed.
    Anyone else see this issue?

    Same issue with Aperture 3.0.2 and HP Photosmart Premium C309g.
    I've only one printer installed but the paper size reverts always to the default setting (A4).
