Set Restore Point Fail In HP Support Assistant

Hello.  I have a Pavilion P6330f running Win 7/64bit.
I ran a tune-up today using the HP Support Assistant.  During the tune-up, it showed "Set Restore Point--Fail". After the tune-up was complete, it showed "No Pending Action, Computer Up To Date". I then ran an Automated Diagnostic and Troubleshoot Health Analysis. Everything passed.
What could be the reason for the Fail for the Set Restore Point?  I'm a little worried about this.  Is there something I should be doing?

  • Create a restore point fails with 0x81000101 error after replacing hard drives

I recent had a hard drive failure so, figuring that I may as well gain something for all of the work, I replaced both drives in my RAID 1 array (thereby doubling the drive space).  I then restored from back up and all has appeared well for several months
now.  Last week I started having trouble with RDC which led me to potential issues with my Intel RAID driver which finally led me to System Restore points.  It turns out that they haven't been working for some time now and I've been unable to get
them started using any of the advice in the other discussions on this particular topic.
All of the necessary services should be running.  I've also tried turning system protection off/on.
The new information that I provide is that when I first opened the System Protection tab, I found two entries for the C: drive.  The first had protection turned off.  The second, named OS, was listed as missing.  After a couple of attempts
with the configuration, I ended up with one entry for OS (C:) with protection On.  It still didn't work which led me to the forum and many failed attempts at getting this one feature working.
One of the other discussions mentioned the RestoreSystem log files.  They are, of course, binary files but I was able to see that I'm getting something called SxRegReadDWORD4FAILED6 fairly soon followed later by a FAILED CSpp::_CreateSnapshotSet.
I'm hoping that somebody with the right tool and knowledge to actually read those files can help me get restore points working again.

    Hi,
What is the full error messages? Like this?
The shared restore point operation failed with error (0x81000101) The creation of a shadow copy has timed out. Try this operation again.
If yes, then we might take a try with the method mentioned in the below blog:
Windows Server Backup failed to backup with error 0x81000101
    Let us know the process.

  • BIOS Update failing to install via HP Support Assistant.

I have tried four times to install a BIOS update (Rom Family SSID 2AF7; Version 80.20Ap1) provided within the Support Assistant, on each occation the update fails to install. I get no error messages. The computer restarts, but the previous BIOS version (AMI 80.19 (2014-07-18)) remains installed.
I have tried stopping my antivirus program, but this didn't help. I have noticed that the command screen hangs with a flashing cursor, but no instructions are visible and then my computer restarts.
Is it possible that the update is corrupt? Any advice on how I should proceed would be welcome.

    Dialog box disappears
    Signing out
    Restarting
    Windows comes up
Same BIOS version and date as stated above
When I click HP Support assistand, and box comes up to ask if I want HP Support to make changes to my computer
    I agree
The same box comes up again and I agree again
HP Support Assistant tells me that there is and important update - the same one I just installed
Hope that is a little more detail.  I've tried this about 5 times now and have never interrupted the process.

  • HT201269 I just traded my old phone for a new phone and I am trying to set it up.  I am attempting to back up my phone from the latest restore point and it will not allow me to do so.

I am unable to get the information from I cloud to my new device from the latest restore point.

If your old iPhone was more up-to-date it won't restore a newer version's backup.
Set up as a new device (Skip Apple ID Sign-in to save time) and update iOS, then do Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings to restart the iOS Setup Assistant and restore your iCloud Backup.
If it still won't work, contact AppleCare as there may be a problem with the iCloud Backup. They never charge for troubleshooting iCloud issues.

  • Windows Backup fails to complete and System shows 29 Restore Points all titled "System Image restore point" but none will work.

Problems both seemed to appear about the same time and may be related.
Had backups on an  external drive prior to the problem and appeared to be working. I have since cleaned the external drive in an attempt to start a new backup series but it continues to stop and report backup has failed.
The System restore was working fine and one day it had changed all the existing Restore Points to "System Image restore point"
but still showed all the different dates.  In the System Properties window it indicates that there are 0 bytes in "current usages",
which I assume they are all empty but I can't create any new ones. I get Error code 0x80042308.
I have tried the Clean Boot with no results. I use MS Security Essentials for virus protection.
I have no other symptoms or problems on the PC.
About ready for a Recovery and start all over.

    Hi,
Your first step should be to run chkdsk /r /f on all the drives in that computer. Shadow copy errors are often caused by disk problems (usually minor) which chkdsk will find and correct.
Also, this issue can be caused that VSS dlls are corrupted.
Re-install the VSS dlls by following these steps:
    a. Using command prompt, CD to the WINDOWS\system32 directory
    b. Stop the Volume Shadow Copy service by executing the command "net stop vss"
    c. Register the following DLLs and services by executing these commands:
    regsvr32 ole32.dll
    regsvr32 vss_ps.dll
    Vssvc /Register
    regsvr32 /i swprv.dll
    regsvr32 /i eventcls.dll
    regsvr32 es.dll
    regsvr32 stdprov.dll
    regsvr32 vssui.dll
    regsvr32 msxml.dll
    regsvr32 msxml3.dll
    regsvr32 msxml4.dll
    Hope these could be helpful.

Normally, I would suggest restoring the iPad and uninstall and reinstall iTunes but you have done both of those things - more times than you ever imagined!
Have you thought about turning auto syncing off?
Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
If you do this you can backup the iPad right away before it syncs. You may want to go into all of the iTunes tabs and just make sure that all of the current content on the iPad is selected to sync before you actually do sync.
This doesn't solve the problem, but it would prevent the automatic sync and erasing content. Hopefully, in the next few days- when iOS 5 is released - you will also be relieved of this weird iPad behavior - since the iOS devices are supposed to become PC free.
BTW - and this is no excuse for what you are experiencing, but I have found that some of the game apps that I had on my iPad turned out to be quite troublesome and after I removed them, my problems went away. I know that is almost sacrilege with regard to the Angry Birds addiction .... But I'm just saying ...

Some 3rd party security software causes this, ie;Norton, check the settings to be sure it is not blocking HPSA from connecting to the internet.
Download and Install the latest version of HPSA from this webpage and try it again

When setting up my new phone, the setup assistant didn't appear.  Where can I find the "restore from icloud back up" option so I can transfer all my information?

You have to erase the phone an go back through the setup again.  Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  Then go back through the setup screens again and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below).  Be sure you are connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to finish.

  • Does this mean that HP Support Assistance is FAILING?

When running HP Support Assistance / then selecting HP updates / then 'Check for HP updates now', I have the following result.
"Connecting to HP servers = Check Mark"
"Downloading messages and updates defiinition = Gray X"
"Gathering configuration information = Gray X"
"Analysing your system = Gray X"
"Preparing the action list = Gray X"
Does this mean that HP Support Assistance is FAILING? or does it mean that it connected to
HP servers, and determined that No Updates Needed?
Because I was reading it as FAILING and I have uninstalled the version that comes preinstalled, and I have reinstalled the Newest Version (Download file: sp68201.exe)
I run it after reinstalled and I get ALL CHECK MARKS, but if I run it another time I get the same
One Check Mark, and the Rest are Gray X's

And its another day.... and yet again I run update and it Has Gray X's ( Which i read as Fails..... ) and so yet again, I uninstall and reinstall HP Support Assistance, and Again it Runs correctly The First Time, and gives me all Green Check Marks,,,,,,,,,,,   However I run it again and Back to All Gray X's.
My Conculsion, Support Assistance Runs Correctly on First Run, But Fails there-after.
