Set riminder to Birthday in Addressbook

Pl. let me know how to set the reminder fro birthdays in the addressbook.

You need to set this in whatever calendar program you use. When you sync your iPhone make sure you sync your calendar under the "info" tab. In iTunes select your phone on the left. The info tab will be in the pane to the right.

  • Can you set an alert for birthdays in Addressbook and iCal?

    When I migrated from Palm Calendar to iCal, my calendar had my birthdays in it repeating each year and with a 7 day alert so I could send a card or get a present in time.
    I see you can list a birthday in Addressbook and set the iCal pref to show them which is at first glance very cool and green but when I open the birthday event in iCal I don't see any way to set an alert which is a big limitation.
    If I can't set alerts, then the Addressbook/iCal birthday syncing is kind of pointless and limited, unless I'm missing how to set alerts.

    Hi Steven,
    This is one of the reasons why I wrote Dates to iCal.
    As well as automatically syncing birthday dates from Address Book, Dates to iCal can sync anniversary and custom dates. It can set up to five alarms for each date in iCal and can also set different alarms for birthdays and anniversaries.

  • Multiple birthdays in addressbook

    I started to use Dates to Ical from John Maisey (http://www.nhoj.co.uk/datestoical) to create multiple birthdays and anniversaries from the addressbook into iCal. Can someone however tell me how to distinguish the various dates, i.e. I have a contract John, Mary and Peter O'Neill with two birthdays. I cannot distinguish now whose birthday is which.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    If you want all these dates to be on the same card do the following.
    In Address Book add an anniversary for each date to the card and change the title from 'Anniversary' to the person's first name.  In Dates to iCal go to the 'titles' tab and change the format of the titles in the anniversary section to include the 'type' token, then quit Dates to iCal. This will show the first name in the events in iCal.

  • Lion : Addressbook does not display birthday from Lion Server

    Hi all,
    I migrated my system to Lion (1 server and 2 clients) and birthday in addressbook behavior is strange.
    On my iphone (I destroyed and created carddav account) I do see all the birthday correctly set but on the lion clients I do not see any birthday. If I modified anyother fields sync is ok on all devices.
    When I send a vcard from iphone I see the birthday stored in:
    BDAY;value=date:1973-08-08 so they are corretly stored on the server.
    Any thoughts ?
    Tks,
    Xavier

    Hi
    I have a similar / the same problem. I take an existing card in which there is no birthday defined. I edit the card - the empty birthday field is there but there is no red "-" button or green "+" button next to it next to it.
    I enter a birthay date but when I exit edit - it disappears
    Any help/suggestions or is it a bug?

  • How to set calendar reminder for birthdays on E71

    Hi! I need help in setting reminders for birthdays. Appreciate your help.
    thanks

    Do you use Ovi Sync?  If not you should open an account on Ovi to sync between devices.  I use it to keep things on my E71(my week day work horse) and N82 (weekend chill out device) synced.  Sure you could use the switched application that is built into the phone and do most of your stuff over bluetooth but that stuff is slow. Plus it's easier for me to use a proper keyboard on my computer to to put all that birthday stuff etc onto Ovi.  And if your handset gets stolen or damaged and your computer decides to go on self imposed vacation your contacts and such sould be safe in the clouds.  Of course there are or were some bugs like having double contacts but that does not really bother me and i think they have taken care of it.  Anyway there should be more Pros than Cons with your experience on Ovi.  Hope this helps.

  • Why does iCal list birthdays 3, 4, 5 even 6 times on the date??

    This is getting worse! Instead of the birthday appearing once on each birthdate, I now get 3 or 4 and in some cases even 6 of the exact same "all day" list of birthdays!
    In the past I have tried to delete all but 1 - but now they are back in greater numbers than before!
    Is there a way to eliminate all these numerous birthdate announcements and then restart iCal to have it just take the ones from Address Book and list one time, not many?
    I have MenuCalendarClock for iCal installed but have NOT chosen to have MenuCalendarClock set-up any birthdays or transfer anything.
    Thanks as this is getting a bit crazy! And I don't want to NOT HAVE ANY birthdays- I like having them and the alarms etc.
    Best regards,
    Steve Schulte

    I have the same issue, but I think I know why. I believe it is becasue you may have more than one contact list synced. I have got my contacts synced with Yahoo and I think iCal is also listing the birthdays on these contacts along side the same birthdays for the contacts stored on my machine. I only get 1 set of birthdays if I turn of the sync with Yahoo. Kind of defeats the purpose of the sync of contacts though then!

  • ICal and Addressbook connecting to eGroupware - various bugs?

    Hi all,
    given CalDAV and CardDAV as standardized protocols, it shouldn't be too much of a problem to connect to private calendar and addressbook servers, you'd think... For some year's I'm running a eGroupware server, and while this product is far from being bug free, I believe it's basically massive bugs in Apple's Ca*DAV protocols that keep the synchronization from working. Let's start with iCal:
    Originally, eGroupware's CalDAV implementation returned fully qualified URIs (like https://www.example.com/egroupware/calendar/) for all kinds of properties, e.g. calendar-home-set. As a result, iCal sent requests with the path //www.example.com/egroupware/calendar - i.e. instead of properly parsing the URI, it just stripped off the protocoll indicator and tried to treat the remaining string as a path.
    As the CalDAV standard doesn't make any hint if URIs should be supplied as fully qualified or relative URIs, returning full URIs seems to be the safer bet, and iCal's reaction on this is IMHO as clearly a bug as it can be. Nevertheless, I patched eGroupware to supply relative URIs, and hey ho, iCal integrates fine with eGroupware now. By the way, eGroupware has some hard coded behaviour to supply only the events of one month back by default, but you can patch that behaviour as well, of course.
    Now to Addressbook, and that's where I'm beyond my wits First of all, it is not possible to configure a CardDAV server in Addressbook itself, as the GUI is massively broken (just try to setup a CardDAV server https://www.example.com/egroupware/addressbook/ and you'll end up with a configured URL https://www.exmaple.com:443/egroupware/addressbook/:443<null> or something even more broken. You need to edit the file "Application Support/AddressBook/Sources/78E03291-22C9-4E27-9852-8480AD6A0F03/Configuration. plist" manually.
    Now, still Addressbook sends a PROPFIND requst for current-user-privilege-set to /directory/ to the server. Don't know what kind of result the programmers expected from this, but on my CalDAV server nothing at all resides under that path, also it's not mentioned in the CalDAV as a general concept. After it got a 405 Method Not Allowed to this request, Addressbook continues sending more sensible requests, so it might not be an actual problem - I'm not sure.
    Next is a PROPFIND query for addressbook-home-set to /egroupware/groupdav.php/addressbook/ wich is a perfectly expected behaviour from the standard. But first, the server replies with 401 Unauthorized. Addressbook then repeats the request, this time including the correct HTTP BASIC authentication information. Now, the server tries its best to handle this request according to standards. I quote the full response here, perhaps some pro spots a mistake in the response I'm to dumb to see:
    HTTP/1.1 207 Multi-Status
    Date: Sun, 06 Sep 2009 14:51:58 GMT

    X-Dav-Powered-By: eGroupWare CalDAV/CardDAV/GroupDAV server
    X-WebDAV-Status: 207 Multi-Status
    Content-Length: 486
    Keep-Alive: timeout=15, max=100
    Connection: Keep-Alive
    Content-Type: text/xml; charset="utf-8"
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <D:multistatus xmlns:D="DAV:">

    </D:prop>
    <D:status>HTTP/1.1 200 OK</D:status>
    </D:propstat>
    </D:response>
    </D:multistatus>
    I read the CardDAV RFC over and over again, but this seems to be as correct a response as you could wish. Note: out of the box eGroupware doesn't generate the D:href sub-element to ns1:addressbook-home-set but directly puts the URI as content of that element. This is not correct according to the CardDAV standard, but iCal is ignoring exactly the same mistake of the CalDAV implementation of eGroupware. It doesn't make a difference for Addressbook either - both variants lead to the error message 'Von CardDAV-Server Fehler (207) für den Benutzer "xxx" erhalten.' This is a strange message to show, as 207 is not an error code. Of course I patched eGroupware to return 200 OK as HTTP status (contradicting the standard), and hey ho, in Konsole you'll see an error message stating "Expected multi-status response but got status code: 200".
    So - Addressbook actually expects and checks for 207 Multi-Status, i.e. the message on the GUI is giving us no indication on the actual problem. Some easy checks proved that Addressbook wouldn't react any different if the server replies with plain nonsense (e.g. syntax errors in the XML file). So, obviously, Addressbook can't cope with an aspect of the response it gets, fails to generate any log or message box about the problem, and sets a misleading error indication on the GUI.
    And now? Does anybody have a good hint what could Addressbook make work here? When can fixes to iCal and Addressbook realistically be expected, if at all?

  • Birthdays not showing up for birthdays after 1980

    I have came across a little app called 'Dates to iCal', which basically does what Apple seems incapable of - allowing you to set alerts for birthdays.
    Problem is, (whether I use either the Apple way or the 'Dates to iCal) if I try and sync my phone, it only copies over the birthdays of people born after 1980! Would this be a problem with my phone (Nokia 7370), or is it an iCal thing?
    Note I've tried deleting all events from years prior to 2007, doesn't help, the phone still seems concerned with when they were actually born for some reason.
    Thanks for any help.

    This is not an issue with iSync at all, or with your Mac OS X configuration: it is a Symbian issue. It does not affect all Nokia handsets - rather, it affects only those from Nokia—and others—which use the Symbian OS.
    The root of the issue lies with someone at Symbian who realized that a significant amount of space could be saved when storing agenda entries on devices like mobile handsets if an an alternative to the traditional TTime API was available.
    TTime stores values representing dates and times as the number of microseconds since midnight, January 1st, 0 AD on the Gregorian calendar. The alternative TUint16 API imposes a highly restricted date range: only values from January 1, 1980 through December 31, 2100 are stored, where each value is calculated in a similar manner from the start of the range. Great for one-time events within the range, but lousy for birthdays and similar recurring events, many instances of which clearly fall outside of it.
    So, along come those responsible for writing Symbian code for mobile handsets and many of them latch onto TUint16, or use library routines or programming samples created by others who did. Now, recurring or non-recurring events, outside of the January 1, 1980 through December 31, 2100 window cannot be handled properly by many [probably most] Symbian OS-based mobile handsets and smartphones. That's why you see this across a range of handsets from several manufacturers, but not all handsets from any one manufacturer are adversely affected. And, it's why you see some birthdays displayed but not others, because those displayed have a root record date for the recurring entries—or, in this case, a birth date—on or after January 1, 1980. Those not displayed have a first occurrence of the birthday prior to January 1, 1980.
    Because this issue involves the mobile OS and calendaring applications themselves, there is no workaround available to users hoping to display the disallowed dates. Only a rewrite of the calendar code for an affected mobile handset, or shifting to a non-Symbian OS device, would correct the problem.

  • Birthday Display in iCal

    The birthdays I have in Address Book are not being displayed on my iCal  calendar.  The iCal preference is set to display birthdays.  Also the birthday calendar is checked to be displayed in the select calendars to show tab (work, home birthdays) on the calendar home display page.
    When I enter birthday in the iCal search a list shows up at the bottom of the iCal window displaying the birthday, type and title (the individuals).  Shouldn't these birthdays show up as an event on the home calendar page on the birthday day?   Seems silly to have to go to iCal search to see what birthdays are upcoming.
    If this is true, can reminders be set to notify X days prior?
    Thanks.
    Dave

    Found the answer myself!
    Refresh the iCal plist file:
    The com.apple.iCal.plist file is in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder.
    To get to the Library folder use Finder > Go (while depressing the "Option" key) > and select LIbrary.
    Quit iCal.
    Drag the iCal.plist file to your Desktop.
    Then log out/in or restart iCal.
    Now go back to iCal preferences and they have been refreshed - the birthday check box is now available.

  • Birthdays on iOS Calendar

    I updated one of my contacts to include the birthday, so that birthday would be visible on my iOS 7 calendar app on my iPhone 5 and iPad 3.  My contacts list already includes birthdays for several other contacts ... and those birthdays show up on the calendar.  The calendars and the contact lists are syncing between the two devices.  I have turned off the "birthdays calendar" and then turned it back on, hoping this would cause the calendar the sync with the contacts data, but it didn't work.  Do you have any suggestions?  Am I missing some step that I should be doing?  Thank you!

    Not clear on what you are trying to do, but the calendar apps built in birthday calendar is ties to the birthdays being on the Contacts app. To use that function, you would need to have a contacts for each of those folks and the birthday field filled in.
    If you already have a calendar set up with birthdays, you would need to create an alert on each event to be reminded.
    If none of the above, you will need to describe what you are trying to do, and what you have to work with, in a bit more detail.
