Set secondary DHCP on ALL interfaces.
I wanted to post this as it's own question although it is posted already under "Ask the experts".
We've added a secondary DHCP server to our network so that if one fails or is taken down for maintenance, we don't have a gap in service. I need to add this new DHCP address to each interface for each controller in WCS. I have 4 WLC's with 9 interfaces per. That's 36 slow UI copy and pastes I'm not looking forward too. Is there a quick way to propogate this secondary DNS to all interfaces?
I've looked at Controller Templates and Controller Config Groups but can't seem to find my way through either to a solution to my situation. Can you offer any advice?
(Unrelated) Also, I can't post to this group from Firefox. IE works fine. Weird.

Set a DHCP gateway for WRT300N
Dear Friends Hello I have to networks with IP ranges 192.169.1.x & 192.168.1.x I want to connect this two networks, the problem is that the ip address of gateway is 192.168.1.1 and the IP address of router(WRT300N) is 192.168.1.2 I don't have windows server, and i can't set static IP for all of users How can I set a gateway in DHCP settings ?
You can't do this with your WRT. It is a broadband router with limited configuration options. One limitation is that the DHCP server in the WRT always uses its own IP address as gateway IP address. You cannot freely configure the DHCP server. It is supposed to be a broadband router, i.e. it is supposed to host the internet connection and thus be the default gateway.
Technically, you only want to route a subnet differently and not the whole internet. Thus the default route/gateway is the wrong place to modify.
The proper solution would be to add a static route for the other subnet on all client computers. Then the computers will correctly route the traffic. The proper solution would also be to run your own DHCP servers to do the IP assignment there and not assign any gateway address at all.
If you don't want to do that you can only add a static route on the routers to reroute the traffic for the other subnet.
First of all, please renumber the IP subnet 192.169.1.* to a private IP address, e.g. 192.168.2.*. 192.169.1.* is a public IP address and should not be used for private addresses.
Now say, you have the computers with the modem link sitting on 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0 and 192.168.2.1/255.255.255.0.
The routers with DHCP server enabled sit on 192.168.1.2/255.255.255.0 and 192.168.2.2/255.255.255.0.
Now add a static route on the router 192.168.1.2 on the advanced routing page:
route destination LAN IP 192.168.2.0, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 to gateway 192.168.1.1 on the LAN interface.
likewise on 192.168.2.2 add:
route destination LAN IP 192.168.1.0, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 to gateway 192.168.2.1 on LAN interface.
With those two routes in place you should be able to use the Diagnostics tools on the Administration tab of the router to ping or traceroute IP addresses in the other subnet.
These routes should also redirect the traffic from the computers to the other subnet. You should make sure that the firewalls on all computers are not configured to block ICMP (in particular ICMP redirects). The router will tell the computers the correct gateway address for the traffic, i.e. the computer will only send the first packet to the router and then learns that the correct destination is the computer with the modem link and forwards everything directly there. Many firewalls are overzealous and unnecessarily block ICMP breaking many IP mechanism for troubleshooting and optimization. Therefore: make sure your firewalls are turned off or correctly configured. Otherwise you unnecessarily route all your traffic to the other subnet through the router as well.
Again: i would rather recommend to set up your own DHCP server and set static routes on the computers or push the routes through DHCP. -
Setting Default Preferences for All Users in Crystal Reports Server 2008 v1
We are currently looking to set the default preferences in the CMC for all of our users.
I did locate this page Link: [How to set default preferences for all users in Infoview 3.1/CRS 2008]
The first part of the thread did seem promising but I am unable to find the sample .jsp code that people recommended.
I would assume that this scenario is common enough that someone knows a way to set universal preference defaults.
Thank youI thought I could just run it too but when I attempt to I get a Windows Script Host error:
Script: C:\User Prefs.vbs
Line: 1
Char: 1
Error: Expected statement
Code: 800A0400
Source: Microsoft VBScript compilation error.
I noticed the first most line seems to be markup for a web interface though I am not familiar with vbs so I may be wrong. I used the publishing wizard to put the script on the CMC to attempt to run it through the CMC but it still does not work. -
Multiple SSIDs with WDS, custom DHCP addresses, & Web interface
I just bought an Aiport Extreme Base station along with an Aiport Express. So far, everything is great, but I had a few of things I would like configure a certain way, and I am having a little problem.
Just to let you know, I am using the base station as the main router/firewall (with my cable modem). I am using the express basically as a wireless bridge (via WDS).
The way Apple takes care of things with WDS, is by assiging the same SSID to both the base station and express for seamless roaming. However, I would like them both to have their own SSID. I cannot seem to get this working, and I know that some other vendors allow this (Buffalo, Linksys).
The other issue is regarding DHCP on the LAN side. I want to for example hand out IP addresses 192.168.2.50-60 to my internal clients, and I want the base station to have an address of 192.168.2.1 and the express to have 192.168.2.5. It seems this also I am having problems with. It seems like the base station is very rigid on what options I have in this regard.
Lastly, I wondered if there is any other way to administer these guys (like a web browser). Sometimes I need to remotely make changes to the router, and don’t really want to install another app just for this purpose (especially at work, or some other remote location).
Thanks
Mac Mini 1.25 GHz Mac OS X (10.4.3) 1 Gig of RAMThe way Apple takes care of things with WDS, is by
assiging the same SSID to both the base station
and
express for seamless roaming. However, I would
like
them both to have their own SSID.
I don't know why you'd want that but if you are
extending the range of your wireless network with WDS
it isn't possible with Airports.
The other issue is regarding DHCP on the LAN side.
I
want to for example hand out IP addresses
192.168.2.50-60 to my internal clients, and I want
the base station to have an address of 192.168.2.1

You can set the DHCP range and then assign static
IP's to anything that conforms to that network as
long as it won't conflict with something
automatically assigned by DHCP. As a router NAT must
be enabled so if you want a unique range of numbers
only DHCP is used which won't work in your case.
In other words set the range at 192.168.1.1 and that
is the address of the base station. That can be used
for the statically IP'd device's router and DNS
entries as well like this:
Device 1 IP 192.168.1.101
Device 1 subnet 255.255.255.0
Device 1 router 192.168.1.1
Device 1 DNS 192.168.1.1
Device 2 IP 192.168.1.102
Device 2 subnet 255.255.255.0
Device 2 router 192.168.1.1
Device 2 DNS 192.168.1.1
etc...
Lastly, I wondered if there is any other way to
administer these guys (like a web browser).
Not that I'm aware of. Airport Admin Utility is all
there is. I have seen a java utility but it wasn't
very friendly.
Thanks for the answers. Despite these minor limitations, so far the Apple hardware is some of the best 802.11 stuff I have used (except for maybe a Cisco 1200). -
Setting iOS DNS for All WiFi Networks
This article describes how to set the DNS for WiFi connections on iOS:
http://techinch.com/blog/change-your-dns-settings-on-iphone-ipod-touch-and-ipad
The problem is that it specifies DNS for an individual network
connection, not for all connections.
Does anyone know a way to change iOS DNS for all WiFi networks in one
fell swoop?I have my ios devices DNS set via DHCP
You'd have to move to an MDM solution if you want over the air, push profile configuration setting to the devices
such as osx server Profie Manager. You may be able to do it with custom settings, I haven't tried it myself
The basic wifi setting in OSX server PM only allow settings for wifi SSID password etc
no DNS settings ip address etc. alternative MDM solutions may give you more options -
Setting up DHCP on home network
I have a home network that has Mac Server running on a Mac mini. I have two Apple Extreme routers. In Server app in the Settings tab of the DHCP section I carelessly deleted all Networks and in the Clients tab I deleted all clients. Now I’m trying to correctly set up DHCP but have been unsuccessful.
If I try to add an entry in the Networks section I get the error message “Another DHCP server might be running”. In the Clients section I see two identical entries.
I’ve tried to understand the tutorials and other help sources but all of them devolve (for me) into technical gobbledygook that is way beyond my current understanding.
Can anyone provide a recipe for setting up DHCP for my network configuration? Thanks, Linc. It turns out I did do just that after I concluded that the DNS service on Server is unnecessary when there's a router between the home network and the internet. The error message is probably referring to the router when it mentions "another DHCP server". I've just disabled the DNS service in Server and removed everything in the two tabs for DNS service.
I really don't know what's wrong about using one of the routers as the DHCP server. -
WLAN VLAN Primary & Secondary DHCP
HI
We've got a primary and secondary DHCP setup on all our wlan vlan.
The server with the primary DHCP died the other day, so all requests are going via the secondary.
My question is, the primary server is backup bu not running DHCP yet.
As the primary server is physically up but not running DHCP would this cause a noticeable lag for client device getting a IP address from the secondary DHCP server?
Many thanks in advance
Cheers
CraigThe secondary DNS server - which as you correctly point out does not let you add additional records to the zone is only intended to be a backup DNS server. The idea is that while the primary DNS server is broken it is 'good enough' to answer queries from clients. You are expected to fix the primary DNS server and once fixed you can continue to edit/add records to it.
The secondary DNS server is not intended to become the primary DNS server in the event the primary fails. This is different to OpenDirectory for example which does allow you to 'promote' a replica server to the master role.
An alternative approach you could consider which might let you do this, would be to setup the primary to export its DNS settings to the secondary machine. You should still initially have the secondary act as a proper secondary DNS server which as discussed means it cannot be edited or become the primary, but you could then wipe the DNS config from the secondary and restore the backup from the primary making the secondary in to the primary.
Remember you need to advertise both the IP addresses of the primary and secondary as valid DNS servers for your network (via DHCP) and for your domains. -
Hi,
Would really appreciate some assistance in what I 'thought' is a simple task
This is what I want to do via TCL / EEM :
1.) Enumerate all interfaces on the switch or just query the running config
2.) Query each interface config
3.) If the interface config doesn't contain the sting 'authentication port-control auto' - send an email with the resulting interface name etc
I'm starting to lose my mind trying to do this
Thanks and regards,

When I download firefox, using recommended setting, or my own, all the sub files/folders like plugins, modules, updater end up on the desktop as well as in the file location. And when I try to put them into the file location, they don't. And when I delete them, FireFox won't open. I tried deleting FireFox and reinstalling it multiple times, and a message pops up sometimes that says FireFox may not have installed correctly, so I follow the steps, but all the extra icons on my desktop don't go away. This has happened every time I have downloaded FireFox. The browser itself works, but I need to know how to get rid of these icons, but still be able to use FireFox. This is on a new computer, with Windows 7.

I have the new iPad . I don't know how my sister's apple ID was set. I have all under my iTunes account but when i need to update my apps, a different apple ID come up! how do i change that?
Hi maggieanntb, your sister's Apple ID came up because an app(s) was downloaded using her account. To prevent that from happening, you would have to delete the app(s) that were downloaded on her's, and re-download them using your own Apple ID.

iTunes tells me my song selection: "Could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" I can locate it and all my other music, but can only open one song at a time. How do I set it to open all my music whenever I want?
Message was edited by: WoildbillI just spent several hours dealing with this when switching to a new PC. It was extremely frustrating as I knew my files were on my external HD but no matter how many times I copied my old iTunes folder over the files were still missing...because dummy me had forgotten to "unhide folders" on my new PC and my old files were actually stored in a hidden folder created long long ago.
This is how I did it on Windows 7 with iTunes 10
1. Look in iTunes Advanced Preferences to see where iTunes is saving files. (Edit, Preferences, Advanced)
Example: C:/Users/Woildbill/My Music/iTunes/Music
2. Ensure you are able to see hidden files - Control Panel, Folder Option, View, Show Hidden Files
3. Use Your Computer's Search Function to Locate the Missing File (Start, Search, type name of song - I started my search in "My Music" folder but be sure to expand to entire Computer if not found right away)
4. In Search Results, right-click found folder and select properties. This will tell you where the file is actually stored.
5. Use Windows Explorer (right-click start) to navigate to the location of the file. It is likley your other missing files are in the same location.
6. In Windows Explorer, copy the newly located files to the iTumes location from Step 1 and everything should work again.
Hope this helps! -
Setting up the HR-PDC interface to ext. system without direct RFC
Hello,
Setting up the HR-PDC interface to external system without direct RFC - Uploading time events
Following note number 647145, I tried to set up connection to external time collection system. As the external system isn't able to work with RFC, I setup a fileport using transaction WE21. When an outbound IDOC is created with transaction PT80, it will be stored at the outbound path. The IDOC then will be transfered to the external system with a unix script triggered by event.
For inbound IDOCS, the fileport cannot be used as I don't see any way to configure it as the time events that should come in via RFC port, will be uploaded and processed according the ALE distribution model. The BOR object "PTManagerExtPEvent" of type "BUS7014" with method "Insert" is used to insert the time events into the interface table CC1TEV from an HR-PDC certified subsystem. The message type is "HRCC1UPTEVEN".
As standard process won't work in our case, I'd need alternative solution. Actually the time events are send via ftp to the SAP directory that points to incoming IDOC path setup on WE21.
Maybe there should some way to setup RFC connection to own SAP system that points to the SAP directory where the inbound files are stored.
Maybe using the FM IDOC_INPUT_HRCC1UPTEVEN can be used to trigger the upload manually but first the files have to be uploaded from file similiar to report RSEINB00. Testing this report using the SAP directory and port where the inbound files are located I get error message that IDOC control record is missing, that seems to be understandable as this report is used to upload IDOCS from file but HR-PDC upload file HRCC1UPTEVEN01 has no specific IDOC segments in this moment as it was created according specific HR-PDC interface description. The IDOC in the standard process will be created with the BAPI.
As I'm new in HR and ALE, I'd be grateful for any help on this matter.
Best regards
AndreasHello Andreas,
thanks for Your contribution. Recently I've got the trial version and made some tests and found out that the bapi-handler works perfectly for managing HR-PDC interface.
Nevertheless actually there's no compilation for OS/400 and the AS/400 I'm working with has an old OS release without C compiler and furthermore RFC libraries of SAP cannot be installed on this release.
The Bapi-handler for testing runs on Windows
and I'd need an intermediate machine to manage the data between AS/400 and SAP. I'd prefer direct connection between timecollection subsystem and SAP for obvios reason.
Regards

Can I Set View Prefs for ALL Windows?
Is there a way in Tiger to set preferences so that ALL Finder windows ALWAYS open to a chosen view? If I want to see all windows in List View, for example, whenever a window is opened or created so that I don't have to reset windows individually, can this be done?
G5 Dual 2.7 Mac OS X (10.4.9)
G5 Dual 2.7 Mac OS X (10.4.9)That actually doesn't completely work. I have the same settings for my 10.4 Finder. I also have the highest level directory (ie: the boot drive) set to icon view with Brushed Metal and Sidebar turned off. However, all new folders created on the desktop always begin in Brushed Metal w/ Sidebar view. Also, folders that have been set with Brushed Metal/Sidebar turned off, open with it turned on when first navigated to via the Dock.
In other words, open place your boot drive in the Dock. Set it to icon view with Brushed Metal and set Finder to open folders in new windows. Create a folder at the highest level of the drive. Open it to confirm it has taken the parent folder settings (in this case icon view, with Brushed Metal/Sidebar off). Close the window. Now open it via pop up menu from the drive icon in the Dock. Not only does it open in Brushed Metal Siderbar on view, but also at a different size, and sometime different Desktop location. Only when you manually turn off Brushed Metal at that point will the two versions of the open folder match when navigated to both ways.
This behavior drives me nuts, as I tend to stay in non-Brushed Metal view, in either list or icon. I have several drives, and bop between Dock pop-up navigation, and regular old double click drilling. I'm constantly having to manually set windows to non-Brushed metal view, even after they were created with it turned off. I wish this inconsistency, and the fact that all new folders created at the Desktop begin with Brushed Metal on, were controllable system wide. However, it's been this way in OSX since as early as I can remember. So I doubt it'll ever be addressed.

Why is the Lumia Icon's (929) ringtone lower than when previewing the ringtone in settings/system/ringtone+sounds? (The volume is set at 30 in all cases.)
Hello Lena,
Yes, tried all those things.
After going back and forth with Verizon's "tier 2" technical support over the last 2 days, a chat session with Nokia, no call-backs-as-promised by your technicians, then having them reinstall the phone's software -that didn't fix the problem. So they are sending me a re-manufactured replacement phone. But not a NEW ONE, because I didn't realize the problem within 14 days. You see at first, I just figured the phone had lousy volume, until I was previewing ringtones when setting the alarm clock. The phone is about one and a half months old. I have expressed my desire that a NEW phone be sent, but NO says Verizon.
I've spent enough time, in good faith, Verizon would solve this matter, but in the process of their re-installing the software they've screwed up Backup Assistant.
Thanks. -
Can I set Finder to open all folders so I can see all files always
Is there a way to set Finder to open all files when I click on say "Documents" or "Music" or whichever? As it is set I have to click on every plus sign within a folder or folders themselves to see what is inside, and, for example, in Music, it means hundreds of folders where the individual songs reside.
Thank you.
RoxyActually, there is a way to do this on a folder by folder basis: for instance, if you have your home folder open and in list view, if you hold down the option key and click on the arrow in front of the Documents folder, it will open, and every single sub-folder and sub-sub-folder will also open. This produces a pretty unwieldy window, and I can never remember the key combo to get them to all close up again (I'm sure there is one.....), but it does work.
Francine
PS--It seems simply clicking the arrow to close the Docs folder does sort it out so a normal click produces a non-opened state of the sub-folders.
