Set start point in movie buttons?

Is there any way to set the starting point of a movie (scene) button with any degree of accuracy? Apple's stupid sliders are about as elegant as using a twig as a screwdriver and it's driving me nuts. Moving the slider even a single pixel moves the video forward/backward 30-45 seconds, which is completely unacceptable.

I tried that, but unfortunately iDVD isn't understanding what I want to do.
Here's what I did: In iMovie, I cropped a much smaller segment of my movie (about 35 seconds), starting the crop at the point where I wanted. I exported this clip out of iMovie as a DV file (saved on my desktop). In iDVD, I went to the appropriate "scene selection" page and highlighted the button for which I wanted to set the video. I then dragged my DV file from my desktop onto the video area in the button.
What I EXPECTED to happen is, I EXPECTED the video in the button to change to the video in the file I dragged in, while clicking on that button would bring me to the appropriate chapter in my movie.
What ACTUALLY happened is iDVD created an entirely new button which, when clicked on, plays the cropped DV file that I originally created.
Dumb, dumb, dumb.

  • Set starting point for x y position

I've never used a program as frustrating as Flash CS4. How
can I change the location of the X and Y starting point? I have
some that are bottom left, some are near the center, others top
    left. It's very annoying.

Francois - Thanks! Looks like set/get_view_property() is exactly what I need. I was hung up on set_canvas_property(), especially since my trigger was compiling with x_pos as a valid property. I completely forgot about set/get_view_property.
Frank - I am using (small) stacked canvases to represent objects that the end users will be able to reposition. The new x,y coordinates will be saved in a database table, and the form will retrieve/apply these coordinates at runtime. Yes, I have accounted for the potential overlapping canvas issue.
...Still puzzled why get_canvas_property() compiles with x_pos as a property... but it doesn't matter.

  • When I set black point on windows, the image switches between blank and full image, why?

when I set black point using windows, the image switches between blank and full image, why?

I set black point with alt button down while I move sllider. When black
dots show, I stop and back off a bit.  That's the normal result. Normally a
white screen appears until I release the alt key. In my case, sometimes the
screen goes from white to full image. It's not all the time. I view my
power and ram use as I work and it doesn't spike when this happens.  It's
as if the alt key command is not holding.  I've used both alt keys with
    same results.
Thanks for responding.  I hope you have some ideas.

  • I can't not set Poject Start Point, as described on p 151 of manual. "You can move the project start point to an earlier position" . Can anyone do this?

I'm unable to change the Project Start Point.   ( I can change the end point easily)
On page 151 of the manual it states:
"You can move the project start point to an earlier position..."
I can't find a way to do it.   Are other able to change it. If so, please explain the procedure.

Mmmmm,…..I just noticed this as well…….
    Anyway, try this:
For the sake of this demonstration start a new project.
Click the mouse pointer on the playhead in the ruler,
now the project start indicator should appear, hover the mouse pointer above it until this indicator appears,
when you see it left click, hold and scroll to the left.
    Good luck!

  • Movie start points in a session

In addition to my previous post, i have a problem with Movie start points and tempo changes as well. Please correct me if i am wrong but in Logic 7 it was possible to set a movie smpte point (say 10.20.17.22) as Bar 1 of the arrangement thus meaning you could write a piece for a 2 min extract of movie without having to lay the whole movie in place and skip to the point you were writing for (after all, that is the sole point of having a SMPTE time start function). In 7, when a tempo change or curve was applied, the arrange would take the SMPTE set at bar 1 as the start of the movie and thus the movie would not slip (i.e 10.20.17.22 = bar 1 period). However, trying to achieve the same function in Logic 8 doesn't seem to work. Any tempo changes to an arrangement slips the whole movie against the time line regardless of bar 1 position, it seems that Logic is taking into account the negative bars at the start of the arrangement (i.e @120bpm bar 1 = 10.20.17.22 but @140bpm bar 1 would become a different SMPTE point in the movie). I am slightly worried by this problem as it is one of the main functions i carry out professionally. If i can't a) write to picture accurately and b)change tempo without slipping an entire movie file then the whole function seems a bit of a waste of time.

Select all songs in the list, do Get Info, look at the bottom of the window and set Remember Position to No. Say OK.

  • How can i set the pointer of a resultset to its start position? newbie.. :(

    hi all.
i have a resultset of a sql query. then i wanna count the number of rows by doing a while loop:
    while(rs.next())
    count++;
then i wana do the same again, but it does not work anymore. i guess i have to set the pointer to its starting position, but i tried beforeFirst(), first(), absolute() and it didnt work. what method do i have to use for this?
    thanks! :)
    j0sh

Use the getType method to determine if your ResultSet is of type TYPE_FORWARD_ONLY. If it is
then you cannot reset the cursor. You may be able to obtain a result set that allows reseting the cursor by
passing the appropriate arguments to the createStatement method of your Connection. Whether your
will get one or not depends on the JDBC driver you are using and whether it supports them.

  • How do you move a track region in Garage Band to a new starting point without altering the existing length of the track?

How do you move a track region in Garage Band to a new starting point without altering the existing length of the track? Thanks.

What exactly are you trying to do? You can drag any region by grabbing it in the middle of the upper area with the highlighted name of the region. However, if you move it towards the end of the track, the length of the track will get longer, to accommodate the extra part of the region. DO you want to speed up the region, to shorten it or do you want to trim it? You can simply grab the right margin of the region and drag it, to make the region shorter.

  • Numbering: Import v Image v Sequence - How do these work? Can they be set to arbitrary start points?

I have been searching where ever I can but I can't seem to find a good explanation of the difference between "Import Number," "Image Number" and "Sequence Number."
In LR4 I was able to specify a start number for sequencing the image reference numbers.
I would like to be able to specify that start number and have LR remember where it left off for the next time I import so I have continuously increasing numbers across imports until the next time I need to reset.
Thanks for any information you can provide or links to the information.

    OK. A simple experiment reveals:
Import# - Ever increasing number for each import. If this is used without another dynamic numbering (ie image#) it will append -# to the end of the filename. (ex. PHOTO001, PHOTO001-2, PHOTO001-3 etc.)
Image# - Ever increasing number for each image across imports (Half of what I was looking for)
Sequence# - Increasing number for each import. Resets to 0 each time.
    The question still remains though.
Can the start points be manually set?
    Thanks.

  • Add Mouse - Cannt move start point

    Captivate v5.5
A work colleague using v5.5 is unable to move the start point of the mouse pointer trail they add to a slide using Insert/Standard Object/Mouse or the insert mouse tool bar.
They can move the pointer end to place they want it to finish but unable to grab and drop the start point and place it where they want the mouse to start from.
I have tried it on my v5.5 and it works OK for me.
Any ideas please as to what she needs to do - or why this might be ?
    Noel

    Hi Noel,
If you are using mouse pointers in more that one slide, then the end point of the mouse pointer on the first slide, becomes the start point on the second and so on.
This is done to keep the continuation of the mouse pointer across the slides.

  • Don't know how to set an interactive form as starting point?

    Hi all,
I need to have a scenario where the starting point of a guided procedure is an interactive form.
I've made an interactive form in Adobe Designer and saved it as .xdp
I've made a callable object from it, add it to an action and add the action into a process.
Now when I initiate a new process in runtime I only see the input fields from the form in a Web Dynpro like design and not the actual form itself.
I thought it was just a simple handling to start a guided procedure process with an IF but it appears not to be for me.
    Can somebody help me please?

The input parameters you are seeing in a 'Web Dynpro like' form are more than likely input parameters to the process.  Process input parameters come from action input parameters  in process blocks and actions that are not mapped.  Given that, it sounds like you have not mapped all the input parameters for one or more of your actions in your process.  By default, GP provides the process initiator the ability to specify the values of these inputs when a process is started. To avoid this you can either,
    1. Map all the input parameters.
    2. Specify the process to start automatically under the 'Instantiation' tab for the process template.  By selecting this, input parameters are ignored and their default values used.
    3. Don't expose these parameters if they are not required or applicable to your process.  This can be done at the action or block level under the 'Parameters' tab.

  • Setting white point in LR

I'm almost sure I'm missing something but I cannot find a solution. I'm using LR (currently 2.2) for quite a while (since 1.2) but I simply cannot find an easy, user friedly and predictable way how to set a white point of edited pictures.
In PS, CR, DPP and most other editing SW and RAW processors, there two typical easy tools how to set the white point.
    1) a white point picker which (when used) defines a desired tone as white and the relevant SW then redistributes the tones accordingly;
    2) in "levels" or "curves" dialog (or their equivalents it is possible to move the "White level" treshold below which the remaining tones are redistributed accordingly - the iterface varies (sometimes it is the border of the histogram or curve diagram that can be moved (DPP), sometimes it is the slider in histogram or curve diagram setting this limit
botw ways generally lead to the same and quite uniform result. I.e. I'm usually able to get almost identical result by setting white point in PS, DPP, CR, .... and other SW by such simple operation when working over identical picture data.
However in LR it is virtually impossible to achieve similar result in LR. No white point picker, no slider enabling setting the white limit, no chance to move borders in the histogram chart. The only available tools for this purpose are
"Exposure" and "Brightness". None of them providing for the desired functionality alone - their combination giving sometimes acceptable but hardly predictable results (definitely not as predictable as achieved e.g. in PS by simple and single move of white limit slider in "level" dialogue or equivalent step in CR.
Do I really miss something important (I hope so) in this respect or is LR completly lacking this (for me really core/basic) functionality present in all other photo and RAW editting SW I know - even from Adobe?
    thanks

I agree with the original poster - I find it troublesome to set the white point in an image. In a situation where a traditional (PS, Aperture) levels control would make it convenient to push a particular tone to white, I find myself going back and forth between exposure and the tone curve a fair amount. Another description of what I want, effectively, is a 'recovery' slider that goes up as well as down.
(See end of post for replies to a few specific points.)
    An example:
Here is the original image, with its histogram and tone curve - black to middle gray:
I want to push the small hatch/door to white, but that also overexposes my middle grays (I haven't yet touched the tone curve):
So now I go to the tone curve, and pull down both darks and lights:
However, at this point I've lost my whites (they are not quite clipped any more); and probably more importantly, since the tone curve is at the extreme low values, I have little working room or control.
Rather than working together or providing complementary functions, in this case exposure and the tone curve, to me, seem to be fighting; it requires back-and-forth to get the desired effect.
(To be clear, most of the time - that is, when my white point starts out more or less where I want it - being able to drag the histogram and smoothly-transitioned segments of the tone curve is brilliantly easy and useful. It's specifically the exposure control's nonlinear behavior/effect that I dislike, as it makes it difficult to adjust near-white tones.)
    Responding to specifics:
    > Also, hold the ALT key (David Edwards)
Cool! (However, not a fix for this issue.)
    > the controls themselves are not linear (Lee Jay)
    > attempts to preserve highlights (Lee Jay)
    > the exposure slider is almost exactly equivalent to the white point slider in Photoshop's levels/curves (Joa V. L.)
I think this is the root of the issue, for me - the exposure control is being intelligent in a way to protect hilights, which is counter to my intent. My experience leads me to disagree strongly with Joa's comment (though I would be very happy to discover I was wrong) - my problem is specifically that adjusting exposure up (brightening the image with exposure) affects tones less, the brighter they are.
    > I need to decrease the Brightness (Henry_Deer)
    > you may need to generate a higher-contrast tone curve and work with that (Lee Jay)
The brightness adjustment seems analogous to my use of the tone curve, though it's an alternate approach I haven't tried. However, both seem to suffer from the 'several rounds' problem.

  • Can't fine tune scene icon starting point

    Hello.
I have an iMovie HD project that I am finalizing in iDVD 6. It is 90 minutes long and divided into ten chapters. iDVD 6 automatically created motion icons for each of the ten chapters. For ease of editing, I have turned Motion off for now.
I can click once on each icon, and a slider appears above it that allows me to set the starting point for that icon's movie. The problem is that I can't finely select the starting point I want. Even if I move my mouse the shortest distance possible, the video jumps by about one minute increments. Same thing when I use the right or left arrows on the keyboard. I've tried variations with the shift, control, option and command keys, but nothing worked, and iDVD Help has no solution that I can find.
Is there any way that I can get the movie sliders to move in much smaller increments, preferably frame by frame? Thanks!

I never found out anything on this, so I just finished the project as best I could. Now I have Final Cut, and doubt I'll use iDVD again. Good luck!

  • Can you set start TC for project edited in CS3?

My assistant has the Japanese version of CS3 (which I cannot read).  I am a producer / director from linear editing days.  I asked him to set the start point of the time line at 23:58:45:00, with one-minute of bars and 15 seconds of black before the first image of his edit (already completed), so that "program start" would be 1:00:00:00 on the tape copy for delivery.  Couldn't do.  Hmmm.
    Two questions:
    (a)  Can this be done?
    (b)  Should the very first frame of the edit be 1:00:00:00 or 1:00:00:01?
    Much thanks,

    Hi there
Is your question regarding Captivate? Or Creative Suite?
I ask because of your mention of CS3, which means Creative Suite 3. But many mistakenly refer to Captivate as CS3 when they really mean Captivate 3 or "C3".
Captivate works like PowerPoint. It's "slide based". The timeline is viewable on a "Per Slide" basis and you don't see a timeline for the whole project.
If your question is for the Creative Suite, please advise and I'll be happy to move the thread to the appropriate venue so you don't have to ask again.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Setting White Points in Camera Raw

When setting white points in Adobe Camera Raw, while holding down Alt (on a PC), are the red marks what I should look for? Because white marks also appear? Which ones are relevant for the white point?

ACR doesn’t work that way.  There is an eyedropper for the overall white-balance that you can set by clicking on a relatively bright, neutral area, but there aren’t black and white-point eyedroppers.  But, what is clipped black or white is determined by the output colorspace you have set at the bottom and you can get some idea of what will be clipped black and white by turning on the clipping indicators and watching for the areas you’d be eye-droppering on (the black and white patches in your grayscale) to start showing the clipping color overlay for black and white, but any further toning adjustments will move data in and out of what is darker than black and lighter than white so what is clipped for output will change as you fiddle with the various toning sliders.
The reason things are different:  In PS, when you set a black-point and white-point in Levels and click Ok, the data below and above those is thrown away and that is the starting point for the next adjustment.  In ACR, things are non-destructive and all the adjustments occur simultaneously, rather than sequentially as in PS, and no clipping occurs until you create the output file.  This means that the pixels that are darker than your black-point and lighter than your white-point are still there, and can be moved into the black-to-white range if you do further toning adjustments.  Having more headroom of the pixels that are outside the black-to-white range is good because you won’t get the posterization or banding that occurs when colors and levels are clipped after each adjustment in PS.
Can you describe what you intend your overall workflow to be on an image:  how much adjusting will occur in ACR and how much, if any, might happen in PS, after the image is opened into PS from ACR, or opened from a file saved from ACR?  There might be other ways to approach what you’re trying to accomplish.
