Set the brightness on my computer before I edit in FCP 6

Do I keep my computers brightness at a medium and the audio at a  medium.  I have been editing my clips and adjusting the clips brightness, and audio as well. Sometimes I open my project to find that it is to BRIGHT. But that is because of my computer. I dim it down back to where I would normally set it before I edit. But when I export it, how is it going to turn out.
What/Where should I set my brightness on my Mac computer, so when exporting my completly edited project it will look like what I have edited?

You don't.
Your computer monitor is worthless for judging anything other than framing, timing of action and motion.
To evaluate color, contrast, brightness, etc you need to be viewing the material on an a standards based display system. This means you hook up an external TV or HDTV that is calibrated (eg Flanders Scientific monitor) and fed by a qualified export card (eg Kona or Decklink).
The least expensive system to get you started is using a Matrox MXO2 Mini feeding a 1920x1200 computer monitor. The matrox comes with a software calibration utility that will get your monitor into the ball park.

    If you're trying to update an application, you need to delete it and then download it from your Apple ID. You may want to erase the internal drive and install a fresh OS.

    Why does my iPhone arbitrarily brighten, to the point of decreased resolution, despite my having turned off auto-brightness and setting the brightness to maximum?

    Could be a hardware failure.
    Restore the iPhone, first from a backup, then as new, and see if the issue persists. If it persists when you restore as new, then there's a hardware issue with your phone and you need to bring it to an Apple store to be evaluated.

  • I did not complete my set up on my new computer before it locked me out. I can't get into my compute

    It says I need a reset disk. I wasn't given on nor did I make on before shutting it down the first night I had it. So how can I bypass this step.

    Have you tried pressing enter with no password entered?
    Your computer should have a recovery partition built in that you can access outside of Windows. The steps to access the partition generally depend on the MFG of the computer.

    To get more information about your computer, go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac", then "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).

  • PhaseListener: before or after which phase should I set the locale?

    Hello,
    I use restfaces an I have UrLs such as mydomain.com/fr/book/etc
    where /fr/ is the desired locale. I have tried retrieving the locale string from the URL and setting the locale from a PhaseListener before the renderResponse phase but it does not work i.e. when I change the locale in the address bar to /en/book/etc it will not change the locale. Any clue?
    Thanks in advance,
    JUlien.
    Here is the phase listener:
    public class DebugPhaseListener implements PhaseListener {
    private static transient Logger log = Logger.getLogger("com.jeanbaptistemartin.util");
    public DebugPhaseListener() {
    log.debug("DebugPhaseListener constructor");
    public void afterPhase(PhaseEvent phaseEvent) {
    log.debug("after---> " + phaseEvent.getPhaseId());
    public void beforePhase(PhaseEvent phaseEvent) {
    Locale locale = extractLocale(FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRequestServletPath());
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getViewRoot().setLocale(locale);
    public PhaseId getPhaseId() {
    return PhaseId.RENDER_RESPONSE;
    private Locale extractLocale(String servletPath) {
    String[] array = servletPath.split("/");
    return new Locale(array[0]);
    }Here is the managed bean (I actually use spring):
    @Component("sculptureView")
    @Scope("request")
    public class SculptureView {
    private Logger log = Logger.getLogger("com.jeanbaptistemartin.view");
    private JbmService service;
    private Sculpture sculpture;
    public SculptureView() {
    log.info("Sculpture()");
    @Autowired
    public SculptureView(JbmService service) {
    log.info("Sculpture(JbmService service)");
    this.service = service;
    @Instance("#{sculptureView}")
    @HttpAction(value = "sculptureAction", pattern = "{locale}/sculpture/{id}")
    public String getBookById(@Param("id") int id, @Param("locale")String locale) {
    this.sculpture = service.findByID(id);
    log.debug("Locale: "+  locale);
    return "/sculpture.jsp";
    public Sculpture getSculpture() {
    return sculpture;
    public void setSculpture(Sculpture sculpture) {
    this.sculpture = sculpture;
    }The problem I get is that the jsp page still display today's date in french...
    Julien.
    I meant "sculpture" instead of "book"

    Thanks a lot! You spotted a big mistake on my part.
    Otherwise, my lifecycle listener works when I use the RESTORE_VIEW phase (afterPhase method).
    Do you think it is the appropriate phase? Should I use another one?

  • IMac 20" making noise related to the brightness setting

    Hi guys,
    I just bought my imac 2 days ago and it has started to make noise on the night i bought it. But i figured out by tilting the mac forward for few seconds make it disappear.
    Then i found out from the forum that it was the inverter and can be reduced by setting the brightness level which works in my case.
    Just wondering should i concern about it and send it back to the store to get it fixed or just bear with it and solve the minor problems myself by tilting and making it goes max on the brightness setting?
    Note: i found that it goes off after few minutes. Maybe it only happens at start up..
    I just dont want to see this new IMac goes into surgery so soon...
    "sigh"..

    As a former authorized Apple service tech I agree with your findings. Thirty days ago I bought a 20" iMac (Early 2008) and the buzzing occurs when the iMac is 'cold' (ie: has been off for several hours and doing a cold bootup). Once booted up (to the login screen will do), use the F1 key to drop screen brightness a few notches (I go to 1/2 brightness) and there is the buzzing noise. Obvious. Simple. This noise was initially first noticed when the screen dimmed on its own when not using the iMac for 60-90 seconds or so.
    ... but once the iMac has been on for a while (say 10 minutes) and is 'warmed up' then I don't get the annoying buzzing noise when decreasing screen brightness.
    ... so I'd have to say the iMac's display inverter is needing to be replaced (unless it's integrated within the main display assembly module itself at which point the whole display panel needs swapping). Alternatively, this might be a power supply issue too although in my years as a technician any power supply issue (internal in the iMac's design) usually causes other goofy behaviour other than a screen brightness control problem.
    So, Apple! You folks monitor these discussion boards. Can someone in the 'official channels' confirm/deny my findings here? Really Apple -- this issue is noted back to the 24" iMac design from 2006 so PLEASE tell us users that you DO have a permanent fix to this and it's being implemented at the production build level!!

  • Does setting the screen brightness to the MAX shorten the life of the LCD?

    On daytime I set it to about 80%. That's bright enough.
    Also, another thing I noticed was I tried to cover the speakers with my hands. The keyboard lit up a little bit but the screen dimmed down. Is it normal?

    While setting the brightness to maximum doesn't shorten the LCD's actual lifespan it does however, I believe, speed up the degradation on how bright your screen will be.
    As for when you cover the speakers… yes, this is normal. What's happening is that the ambient light sensors (which are under the grilles, are picking up a reduction is ambient light and in doing so is setting the screen brightness down and activating the backlit keyboard.

  • What is the factory setting for the Brightness Control?

    Hi. I'm calibrating my monitor and I have to set the Brightness Control back to the Factory Setting. Does anybody know what the factory setting is? Thank you!

    That may still be too high. The brightness is really cranked up on monitors these days. I doubt even at the minimum setting if you can get to the recommended luminance of 150 cd/m².
    This link might help you determine the best setting. As you are adjusting the brightness up and down, you might see a subtle difference; a lot depends on the capabilities of the monitor.

  • Why is the brightness of my iMac become 100% automatically when I turn on..

    Why is the brightness of my iMac become 100% automatically when I turn on my computer even though I set the brightness to the lowest before I shut it down.
    I want to set the brightness to the lowest every time I turn on the computer automatically.
    Is there anything I can do?

    Hi,
    There seems to be a serious issue with screen brightness on the 24" iMac. About 6 days ago I bought a 24" iMac (2.66 Mhz model w/4 GB RAM + 640HD).
    Out of the box it had Leopard 10.5.5 installed; there were several problems.
    1. Screen brightness was way too BRIGHT. Display preferences would not pull brightness down. At least not down far enough so that the screen could be viewed without extreme discomfort. Plus add insult to injury a reboot would reset the preferences to maximum brightness. NOTE: An upgrade to 10.6.1 did NOT fix the issue.
    2. Viewing a browser page via either Safari or Firefox (latest versions of each) was not good. A vertical scrolling would be jumpy and appear pixelated. Upgrade to 10.6.1 seemed to fix most of the issue in Safari, but Firefox was still not working properly. The issue appeared like a horizontal "ripple" in about the bottom 2/3 of the browser window. The effect did NOT extend outside of browser window. Changing screen resolutions did not work.
    3. Connecting a USB Logitech head set caused issues with Sound preferences.
    If the head set was connected during startup the machine would recognize them as main sound. The internals speakers did NOT appear in the Sound preferences. as an optional choice. Removing USB headset and reboot would return the internal speakers to the Sound preferences. Plugging in headseat would work for a while. We could repeat and same problem would occur.
    These are all in 10.6.1 - definate bugs.
    Returned with the iMac to the Apple store. Bottom line, after nearly three hours; the Apple technician, and everyone could see what we were talking about.
    Regarding the screen brightness. Nothing they could do about it. They stated that "not too many people have complained about it, to their knowledge." They stated that the electronics in the "florescent" panel could not be turned down the same way. TRANSLATION: The programers at Apple let this one slip past them. As a customer (software programmer & network analyst) I expected a bit more of an intelligent answer.
    However.
    Examining the 20" model I noticed that we could turn down the screen brightness - at least to a level that my wife and I could live with. PLUS the settings remained after a restart. Something that was NOT happening with the 24" model.
    So - we exchanged the 24" for a 20". Frankly we are a LOT happier. The Safari/Firefox issue is still carried over to the 20". However it is not nearly so noticable on the smaller screen.
    Plus the USB headset did not cause the same Sound Preference issues.
    So - Thanks for the speedy return/exchange of the iMac. But someone needs to look at this from the programming side of things.

  • My iphone 4s' screen is shaking when the brightness is in maximum

    My iphone 4s' screen starts shaking on the upper and lower part if I adjust the brightness on its maximum level (which I rarely do), but it still bothers me that there's something wrong with my phone. I usually set the brightness on medium level just enough to see the screen clearly. I'm here in the Philippines and I bought my phone last year in California. We don't have a genius bar over here and Mac stores doesn't offer repair services unless your phone is bought from a carrier (AT&T or Verizon over the US). The warranty of my phone expired two weeks ago I've already restarted and restored my phone but nothing's changed. I don't have any idea of the problem is with the LCD screen.

    My iPhone 4s screen is cracked (due to being dropped) and I can't slide to unlock it.  Several of the the icons on screen will not work either.  Is there a way to recover my photos if the phone has never had a back up and never been synced with another device?
    No in order to backup to iTunes, you would need to unlock your phone.
    In order to import pics to your computer you would need to unlock your phone.

  • Setting the title font and axis labels in a graph created with the Report Generation Toolkit

    I'm using the LabVIEW Report Generation Toolkit for Microsoft Office to generate Excel worksheets containing plots. Unfortunately, the default font size used in the plots is huge (see attached worksheet). I was able to use Excel Set Graph Font.vi to reduce the size of the axis labels, but there does not appear to be a function to do this to the title and legend. In addition, there does not appear to be a function to set the axis text labels. Before I write my own, has NI released additional functions to perform these tasks?

    Hello Zeidan
    The graph title and legend font sizes can be changed by accessing a low level VI (Excel_Insert_Chart.vi) that is part of the excelsub.llb that is located at (C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\vi.lib\addons\_office). This VI is called dynamically from within the Excel Insert Graph.vi and it uses VI server technology to access the Excel exposed properties. Attached to this post is an image of the block diagram of this VI after I have modified it to set the font sizes of the title and legend to 15. The circles in the image represent what I had to add to accomplish this.
