Set time now

I have an array of Time Stamps that I want to set to the Time Now when the user clicks a button for that purpose.  I get the current time and format it to my liking.  I'm just not sure how to convert it back to a time stamp and stuff it back into the array.  Well, I know how to get it back into the array, it's just the conversion from string to time stamp I'm not sure about.

Why not put the timestamp directly into the array? The Format Date/Time String is for display purposes only. Converting it to a string and then back to the timestamp is not necessary if you simply want to place the current time into the array.

  • Apple TV changed battery screen shows setting  time etc now it will not start

I had to change battery in remote (2nd gen apple TV) now it starts setting time etc screen is blank. I swithced it off waited 30 secs, no luck!!!!
I cannot go to menu as it does not allow me. Has anyone got any suggestions??

Here's what finally worked for me with Apple TV 3rd generation. Out of the box, when setup with wi-fi, it breezed through without any issue. As soon as I powered down and connected it to another tv (same wi-fi network), it got stuck at setting date/time. The remote would help in getting out of it, but the home would only have "Computers" and "Settings" and pretty much useless except for AirPlay. Here's what I did to resolve this:
    1. On your main router, temporarily disable the firewall or set it to the lowest setting allowable (a reboot of the router maybe required).
    2. Restart apple tv via the "restart" option in the "General" option in the main settings menu.
    3. It should breeze through and not show the "Setting date/time" screen.
    4. Once it loads up properly, turn on your fire wall as before  (a reboot of the router maybe required).
I think it worked for me out of the box, but auto-update to the latest software introduced this bug. So, everytime apple tv tries to synch with the time server, this issue will come back. To disable this, I turned off the "auto time synch" option in Settings -> General.
I am fairly confident that I'd be able to use steps 1 through 4 anytime this recurs. Possible scenarios causing recurrence of this issue:
    1. Unplugging the power to apple tv or power failures.
    2. OS updates.
    3. Restoring apple tv using "Restore" or via micro-usb and iTunes to the lastest OS.
Hope this helps. Please post if this works for you.

    Merry Christmas

Repartition and format the drive for a Mac:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • IPhone 4: Visual Voicemail asks to be 'set up now' after each reboot

    Hello everyone,
    Here is my recurring problem:
Every time I turn my iPhone 4 off and back on, the visual voicemail asks to be set up again (when I've done it over 10 times now!). I tried resetting the network settings, taking out the SIM, and even called my phone company. They said that the issue is from Apple and has nothing to do with cell phone reception or what not... They said they have gotten a lot of calls with this issue?
I am not sure if anyone else is having this problem...?
How do I fix this so I don't need to reset my voicemail everytime I reboot?!?!
    Thank you in advance.
    Message was edited by: bumblebumble

    The fix:
Okay, I spoke with Apple Customer Support, and this is the detailed fix for the constant visual voicemail re-set after rebooting the iPhone (4). A warning though, it's going to use up a lot of your time!
    1. Make sure that you've synched your iPhone, and have a computer back up (which includes all of your contacts, apps, email, photos, etc. - EVERYTHING.
    2. Reset your iPhone 4 back to the factory default (this erases EVERYTHING from your iPhone). This is the "Restore" option found on the "Summary" tab in iTunes when your iPhone 4 is selected.
    3. After step 2 is complete, when you are given the option to restore the iPhone either from a back-up, or start as a new iPhone, choose the new iPhone option (it's possible that your back-up has a "corruption" which lead to this problem).
    4. Re-synch, and re-add all of your apps, movies, books, and photos, etc. You will have to redo any folders that you may have made (pain!).
    5. You may have to update the phone's carrier settings (remember when you first got the phone?), by pressing a prompt on the phone if it tells you that a carrier update is available (download the update). The phone will also prompt you with the fact that it's now registered (with your carrier). This only takes a second (the shortest part of the whole process). Your visual voice mail should work. Your greeting may be set to "default", but if you choose "custom", your greeting should be there (push "play" to make sure). If not, then record a new one. My greeting was still there, and I didn't have to re-enter my password. All of my old messages were still there, too. Success!
    6. You'll have to re-enter your wi-fi password in order to re-enable wi-fi.
    7. You're done. It works. I've tested it, by restarting (re-booting) the iPhone 4 several times.
    8. Go to bed, because it's late!
    You're welcome!
    -Mark.

  • Setting time automatically doesn't work?

One of the less obvious new features in iOS 4.2 is that there is now an option in your Settings app to set the time automatically.
The only problem with that option is that it doesn't work - at least not for me. Actually, what happens when I enable that option is that it turns back my clock by 18 minutes. I've tried syncing, waiting, switching the option on or off while connected or not connected to iTunes, and a few other things. Nothing helped.
Interestingly enough, this new option is not mentioned in the updated iPad User Guide, so I'm not sure how it's supposed to work.
Any ideas? My timezone is set correctly.

Yeah, something seems to be broken... I have a WiFi - 3G iPad but I've never turned on the 3G so I'm running (and have always run) WiFi only... My iPad normally lives in California (Cupertino is the default time zone for California) but I am presently in Kansas City visiting family. I also just downloaded and installed the new 4.2 OS yesterday so maybe that has something to do with the issue???
Anyway, if I turn "Set time automatically" to OFF, set the time zone to either Dallas or Chicago (two choices for the Central time zone where I am now and set the time manually, I can then change the time zone to Denver (all as an experiment) and the time rolls back one hour (so far so good)... I then change the time zone to Cupertino (Ca) and it rolls back another hours (again, good)... Then I reset it to say Chicago (Central) and it moves forward two hours (again, check)... Then, for grins, with it sitting right there and the correct Central time and with Chicago chosen as the current time zone, I then "Set time automatically" back to ON and the time now rolls FORWARD TWO MORE HOURS where it should not go... The bottom line is with "Set time automatically" turned ON I get the wrong time by two hours... Now granted, there is a two hour time zone difference between where I originally set up this machine and where I am now and maybe that has something to do with it??? Or something is broken in the OS...
Anyone have any thoughts or guidance???
    thanks... bob...

  • Set Time Zone automatically doesn't work?

Just returned from a trip to Greece (back home now in Phoenix). Noticed that even connected to wifi in different locations, when "set time zone automatically" was clicked on in general settings, time displayed on iPad seemed stuck in EST. (I made a stop in Philly on way to trip, not sure if that has to do with anything.)
If i click "set time zone automatically" to off, for some reason my iPad defaults to Washington DC, even though in all my calendar/email settings i have Phoenix set as local time zone. I can change Washington DC to Phoenix and correct time displays on iPad. Just wondering why i can't set it automatically to display correct local time?
    Thanks for any suggestions....

Ok thanks. Yeah, I ended up using the World Clocks.
Where it gets interested is, iCal. If you're in a foreign country that's, say, 4 hours ahead, and you add iCal entries to your Calendar while you're out there, should those entries reflect the local time or the home time?
Also, if you're set the Alarm to wake you up at 8:00am, and you're away on holiday, surely it will go off at home time, not local time, thus going off at the WRONG time.

  • Can I set Time Machine to backup both my hard drive and an external hard drive?

Hi. I've been working with a lot of family video lately and my internal hard drive has filled up significantly. iMovie doesn't seem to have a good archiving facility like Adobe InDesign which I use at work were all the relevant files are gathered together into one folder. Apple advised me to relocate my movie files to an external hard drive and herein lies my query.
Is there a way for me to set Time Machine to backup both my iMac's internal drive and the external hard drive that would contain my movie files? I've been using Time Machine for my backups for a few years now, but backing up the external as well has me stumped. If Time Machine could be used then all the necessary file accociations etc would be safely backed up as well - that's why I don't want to have to manually backup the external.
    Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks so much Pondini!!  You just quickly answered a question that none of the Mac people in 3 stores or Apple Care have been able to answer. If you can format it HFS+ (any variation of Mac OS Extended), it will work.  If not, it won't.
I'm not too surprised about the Apple Stores, as they don't get much training on Time Machine.  But AppleCare sure ought to know.
Oh...what about if the external drive is an array...like a Drobo with it's own proprietary formatting...I guess that would not work...??
I've never used a Drobo.  A number of folks here have used them as their Time Machine drives, but I don't recall seeing anyone try to back one up with TM, so can't say for sure.  But if you can format it as HFS+ (any variation of Mac OS Extended), it will work.  If not, it won't.
At least part of the reason is, Time Machine uses the File System Event Store, a hidden log of changes that OSX keeps on each Mac-formatted disk/partition, to figure out what's changed and needs to be backed-up.  See How Time Machine works its Magic for details.
See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #32 for details and considerations of backing-up multiple volumes with Time Machine.
However, even if it will work, that may not be your best strategy, depending on your circumstances:
Since Time Machine keeps copies of things you've changed or deleted, the destination needs to be considerably larger than the data being backed-up.  How much larger varies widely depending on how you use your Mac, but a general "rule of thumb" is, it needs at least twice the space to be able to keep a reasonable "depth" of backups for you.
If you have a large internal HD, fairly full, plus a large external HD, and the files on the external don't change frequently, you might want to use Time Machine for the internal, and a different app to a different disk or partition, on a different schedule, for the external.  Especially if space is a consideration, you might not need to keep previous versions of files on the externals.  See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #27 for some alternatives.

  • Ive had my iPod classic for some time now, and up to now have been using my laptop to sync songs from iTunes.  Unfortunatley, the laptop has died and I'm thinking of buying a iPad.....but how do i now get any songs downloaded from iTunes to my iPod?

I've had my iPod classic for some time now, and up to now have been connecting it to my laptop to sync any downloaded tunes from iTunes.  Unfortunately, the laptop has died and I'm thinking of buying a iPad.....but how do I now get any songs downloaded from iTunes to my iPod?

If an iPod is set to update automatically it will be associated with a particular library. If you connect that iPod to a different computer or a different library on the same computer you get the the message you are referring to. "The iPod "iPod Name"is linked to another another iTunes music library. Do you want to change the link to this iTunes music library and replace all existing songs and playlists on this iPod with those from this library". To use an iPod on multiple computers you change the update method to "manually manage songs and playlists". You can also use multiple iPods on a single computer so you will be able to connect both of your iPods to your existing iTunes. Connect the new iPod and follow the on screen instructions, iTunes will open and update your iPod.
    For info:
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

Paul--you are a life-saver!! Worked great. I did have to look around to make sure I was getting 4.9 instead of 4.7 (even when the file was named 4.9 at techspot.com), but I finally got the right file, did the install as you suggested, and everything is now fine. One note, though, that I haven't seen mentioned in any of this thread: when I first tried to open up iTunes after getting back to 4.9, the following message appeared: "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." I merely went to the old .itl file that was created when I did the update to iTunes 5, renamed it, moved it over to my now new 4.9, and iTunes opened fine. My library was a few days out of date, because of the few days' lag from the time I did the iTunes update, but that was easily taken care of, and everything's now working fine. Thanks again!!!

  • Trigger Process chain at set time or when an event is raised.

    Hi All,
I have a requirement where a process chain should get scheduled at fix time, say at 1:00 AM. Also, it should get scheduled when an event is raised by one BSP application. So, its like Set time OR Event should trigger the chain. Can you please guide, how can i implement this without using a special SM37 job?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Harpal

    Hi Gohil,
The steps to create an event is as follows:
    1. Create the event with SM62.
    2. In the process chain, maintain your Start process. In the change selections screen, choose the button 'After event'. On the bottom, select your event. Click also on 'Periodic job'.
    3. Activate and schedule your process chain. It will then be visible in SM37, waiting for the event.
    4. Then you may raise this event from any ABAP program with function module BP_EVENT_RAISE. Each time you raise the event the process chain will start. You can raise the event also manually with SM64.
If you want to fix a time i.e., at 1:00 A.M, you need to got RSPC tcode --> click on the chain --> right click on Start variant --> Click on maintain variant --> Change selections --> Click on Date/Time --> Give the date and time.
If you want to ru7n your chain daily or weekly like periodically, check Periodic Job and click on "Period Values" and select accordingly. Now save everything and click on start variant and activate and schedule your chain.
Also check below thread for more info on Event:

  • Setting time automatically not working

My extreme is in bridge mode right now so does it matter if i uncheck the "set time automatically" feature? time.apple.com does not work. Keeps returning me a "no address for ntp server time.apple.com"

I think its main purpose is to time stamp the activity log reports that the base station can generate - not a feature that the majority of people use.
Maybe someone else here could elaborate?

  • Location Services: Setting Time Zone... Always Active

Just wondering if anybody else is experiencing the always active SETTING TIME ZONE setting in LOCATION SERVICES / SYSTEM SERVICES.
It's always purple - never stops polling for location.
I've noticed a change in the battery life for my iPhone 4 and I think this is the culprit.
Is that setting needed for anything in particular or can it safely be turned off?
Thanks for any advice you have!

Grrrrrr, now (after the iOS 5.0.1 update), this is happening not only on my iPad, but also on my iPhone 4S, which never had the problem on iOS 5.0.  So, instead of going from 1 to 0 devices having the problem, I've gone from 1 to 2 after the update!  Isn't this the opposite of what was supposed to happen?
Letting the iPhone sleep for a while, shutting it off and turning it back on, resetting it with home+power, all do nothing.  Weirdly, it *wasn't* doing this right after I did the update; it only started about a day or so later.
****Update: and now it's off again, but it did come on for about 10 minutes and then turned off again.  Hmmmmm. I agree that having the status bar icon enabled is a good idea, to at least be able to see when this happens and disable it if you're in a situation where battery life matters.

  • My iTunes parent control keeps giving me the same error message. "Parent control preferences could not be unlocked. You may need to reinstall iTunes. "I have uninstalled ant reinstalled iTunes that 4 time now and I still can't get on. Can anyone help?

My iTunes parent control keeps giving me the same error message. “Parent control preferences could not be unlocked. You may need to reinstall iTunes. “I have uninstalled ant reinstalled iTunes that 4 time now and I still can’t get on. Can anyone help?

Experimental advice ... but, plausibly, the preference files containing the parental control setting may be damaged. If so, removing the iTunes preference files may help.
For the basic technique, see the "Remove iTunes preference files" section from the "User-specific troubleshooting" section of the following document:
iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues
To see those folders, you'll need to first set your PC to view hidden files and folders
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Prior to doing the preference file rebuilds: Best to make a note of any custom preferences you have set up for your iTunes. (Rebuilding pref files returns preferences to their defaults ... so you'll likely have to set some of those custom preferences up again from scratch.) Also make a note of any third-party plugins/add-ons you have installed. You may have to reinstall those after the rebuilds.
Things to watch out for during the rebuilds
Rebuilding the preference files in the \Local\ location causes the iTunes license agreement to run. So you'll need to agree to that again.
Rebuilding the preference files in the \Roaming\ location causes the iTunes Setup Assistant to run. When prompted to do so, do not add files to your iTunes library. (Otherwise you'll end up with a library full of duplicates.)

  • Bug in "Get and Set Time.vi" example for RT systems

There is a bug in "Get and Set Time.vi" that ships as an example in the "NI System Monitor" package.  The routine does *NOT* return the hour correctly.
Note the string "%#H:12:39.371" as the time of day.  That should be 09:12:39.371 as it was 9 AM at the time.
    Mac OS X 10.8.5
    LabVIEW 14-64bit
    NI System Monitor 14.0.1
Pharlap RT PXI embedded system version 14.0 updated.
NOTE: it is odd that the default "New Time" has #H as the hour but that is hard wired into the VI as a sentinel case.

    Rahul,
It may be only in the Mac OS X code base.  But since it is one of those annoying locked VIs I can't tell.  Now of course this is locked because communication with the RT system is so sensitive or just plain messy.  My guess is that if I thow wireshark at it I can tell you what is inside and it shouldn't be that secret.
But let me know what you find running under Mac OS X.
