Set up a printer on iPad

Hi,
On my home network I have a canon all-in-one printer connected to my iMac. I can print to this from my macbook pro. When on my iPad I select print, but don't know how to set up the iPad so that it sees the printer. How do I do that?
Thanks,
Eric

There is airprint, but that isn't supported by your printer, so the only alternative is to get an application for your mac that "catches" print commands, wirelessly, from your iPad and sends it to an attached printer (to the mac).  One such program, very popular also, is Printopia.  There are others like Print Central, and I have both - I find Printopia works the best for me.

    I have just purchased a:

configured a new wifi network on the airport express base station
I did not setup airtunes when asked too during setup - Not sure if this makes a difference.

The DSL needs a route back to the 192.168.10.x network. So using IOS terminology (although the DSL will have different syntax) -
    ip route 192.168.10.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.2.2
if you cannot add a route to the DSL then the other option is to NAT all 192.168.10.x  IPs  to 192.168.2.2 so that DSL knows where to send teh return traffic eg.
    int eth1/0
    ip nat inside
    int fa0/0
    ip nat outside
    access-list 101 permit ip 192.168.10.0 0.0.0.255 any
ip nat inside source list 101 interface fa0/0 overload

How do I set up my printer to print from my iPad?

If the printer supports AirPrint then you should be able to print to it just by the iPad and printer being connected to the same wifi network.
    AirPrint : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
If it doesn't support AirPrint then you could check if the printer manufacturer has their own app in the app store, or there are third-party printer apps such as PrintCentral Pro and Print n Share which might let you print to it

This tells you all you need to know ... including a list of the printers supported by AirPrint, which is the best way to use the iPad to print.

If you don't have a printer on the attached list, you'll have to search the App Store for some print utility, probably supplied by the manufacturer.

  • HT204023 How do I set up to print from my iPad directly to a wi-fi direct printer WITHOUT going through my household  wi-fi network/modem?

How do I set up to print from my iPad directly to a "wi-fi direct" printer WITHOUT going through my household wi-fi network/modem? I want to get rid of my household internet service/modem and only use my iPad, but need to be able to print. Please help! Thank you!

Depending on the printer, you may be able to connect/print by creating an ad-hoc (Wi-Fi direct with no router) connection. Check with your printer manufacturer to see if this is supported.
There's a ton of info out there. You could google "ipad print ad-hoc" for some useful info. But the number one thing for you right now is to verify that your printer model supports an ad-hoc connection.

  • Setting up a wireless printer for iPad

I am trying to purchase a printer to print documents/email/ect. from my ipad using an app. I DO NOT own a computer at home, so I would need to set up the wireless printer on my network without needing a computer to do so. Is anyone aware of any printers that will allow this?
If not, are there any other ways to allow for printing form the iPad without using a computer as well (for example, a adapter or special cord)?
    Any info will be appreciated!

You can simply print from your ipad wirelessly without any kind of cables or Internet connections.
All you need is a simple router like “Tenda W150M Portable Wireless AP/Router (Microcenter: $34.99)” is a small device that can be powered right off of most printers USB ports. Then obviously connect any Wi-Fi ready printer and IPad to this “Tenda” router. No Internet service needed, you are using this for network connectivity purposes only. You now can be anywhere for ex: like in a car and be able to print from your IPad or iphone wirelessly, without any other needed connections.

  • Since changing over to a new BT hub my iPad mini will not recognise an Epson XP printer although this worked fine with Sky. Printer and iPad set up for new hub and independently recognise hub

Since changing over to a new BT home hub, my iPad mini does not recognise an Epson XP 305 air printer although system worked well on previous Sky hub. Both printer and iPad set up and recognise hub independently. Has anyone come across this problem?

Do you know why there have been multiple disconnections?

  • How do I set up the printer default so that it prints black only, with all my devices and iMac

Have an Officejet 8600 Plus, used with an iMac. Also using wireless feature to print from iPads and iPhones. The printer has been setup from the iMac to print using the black ink cartridge, only. The problem is with my devices. I am unable to figure out how to set up the printer to print in black when I print from my devices. Is there a solution to this?

Hi symo46, welcome to the HP Forums. I understand you are trying to determine how to print with black ink only from your iPad. As you may have experienced using Airprint you will not have any options other than number of copies, however the HP ePrint App may have the option you are looking for.
When printing from the HP ePrint App, if you are printing Office documents or PDFs you can use black ink only.

  • How can I print from ipad to non wireless printer?

How can I print from ipad to non wireless printer.
....been trying to save document to pc to print.... but cant find a way to do so.....?

Actually you can print to a non wireless printer if you have apps on the iPad and your computer that will do this and as long as you can set up a WiFi network or the iPad and the computer are already on the same network.
I Am running an old OSX version on my iMac at work (Tiger OSX 10.4.11) and I have an app on my iPad called Save2 pdf. I downloaded a helper app on the Mac called WePrint. I do not have WiFi at work, but I create a WiFi network using the Ethernet connection to the Mac that my iPad can also join. As long as I can send the file/text/document to the Save2pdf app, I can print it on my old HP LaserWriter1012 which is not a wireless printer. This uses the Mac as the print server and the WePrint app on the Mac sends the doecument to the printer.
It's not a very elegant solution, and it is a little convoluted, but it does work.

  • PRINT from IPAD to HP-Photosmart All in one 310a, (UNSUCCESSFUL)?

Ipad-1 with latest software downloaded from apple, but can't print. Even downloaded iPrint & ePrint Apps, all successful, and restarted Ipad. Same with Iphone=Same!
*RE:Have purchased HP-Photosmart 310a, which is an APPLE approved printer for printing with Ipad, but, CAN"T FIND PRINTER!
*Printer set-up: Turned own, found & set up wireless network, downloaded latest updates, test printed good.
*Extra: Loaded HP-software disc that came with 310a onto desktop PC successfully for checking wireless printing to 310a and found successful printing, wirelessly,   so I know it works through Lynksis E-3000 Router & Comcast, but still can't find printer on Ipad?
*("CAN'T FIND PRINTER"), "Can't Find Printer..........??????????????
*Re-checked all settings on 310a, that all necessary switches for successful printing are turned on for communication with router, IPAD, IPHONE, etc...
*Downloaded some Apps for printing: IPrint & E-Print! Have not downloaded Air Print Activator, or whatever it is called from an earlier posting, if needed?
*On phone with Apple & HP, each blames other. HP says we are printing and wirelessly, we are good. Apple says you already called once, please give me your credit card for resolution, What the F%*$? Never has worked yet since first issue of I-Pad, why should I pay for something that is not working yet, and answers are like pulling teeth? Did not expect this from Apple! In addition, I have not contacted Lynksis, because the desktop pc prints perfectly, wirelessly!!!
*If all of this is my fault, I will be the first to apologize for my ignorance, but really, it shouldn't be this hard and time consuming? Just want to print from I-Pad, and all of this time and frustration is for someone else, a senior, not even for myself. Just trying to help out!
    PLEASE ADVISE?????

The router has to support Bonjour for airprint to work.  I don't know whether yours does or not - hopefully someone else will be able to say. One frequent suggestion for this problem is to be sure you router has the latest firmware installed.

How do I set up my printer to AirPrint

    Review this Apple Support page
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
If your printer supports AirPrint you prettyd much just have to turn it on. Your iPad should find it.
Keep in mind though, that not all Wi-Fi printers support AirPrint. Check to see if your printer is listed in the AirPrint support page.
