  • Problems Setting Up University Email (uses Gmail) in Mail

I have a student email account that runs through gmail, but it doesn't actually say gmail in the email address anywhere. I think this might be the reason why when I try to set up that account in Mail (tried both POP and IMAP) it's not accepting my login information. Is there a way to make this work?

Not an exact solution for you, but our University has a computer store on campus that was all kinds of help when setting up University email to operate through Mail, remotely.
Give the IT Help desk or (if one exists) the store a try.

If it will not verify, that means that one of the settings that you have done for the account is incorrect. Check back with the email provider to make sure you have all of the settings required, that they are correct, and lastly to make sure that you are entering all of the correct information in the correct places.

Have you tried double-clicking on the file? If so what happened?
I believe you have a Word Perfect document, so you would need an application that can open such files. You might try the free Libre Office.

  • Can I set my iCloud email as the outgoing mail server for my google apps email account in Mac Mail?

I have a google apps email account from an old client, all my work emails have been going to it for years. As I'm no longer affiliated with this client I'd like to make a transition to using my iCloud account for work. I asked people to use my iCloud address but as they've been using my google apps address for years it's what automatically comes up when they type my name.
I figure the easiest way to make a transition is if I reply to all the emails that arrive at my old address from my iCloud address and gradually they will start using my new address without realising it. But I can't find a simple way to do this.
In Mac Mail preferences > accounts > Google IMAP (my old account name) > Account information > Outgoing Mail server (SMTP) I'd like to set my iCloud SMTP server. But although my iCloud account uses its own outgoing mail server for its own account , it is not in the server list when I select my google account. I've tried to add it to the server list as smtp.mail.me.com but it caused my whole iCloud account to give me error messages until I force quit Mail...
    Any ideas?

In iCloud/Mail, have you tried going to Preferences (select with gear at lower left)/Composing and setting a Send from address there?

  • How can I set up another email client to send mail as my dotmac account?

My business uses an online application that can send emails to our customers as long as we provide it with an email account. I used the following from my mail.app:
    SMTP HOST: smtp.mac.com
    SMTP PORT: 25
    SMTP_AUTH: true
SMTP USER: cryogen (my dotmac account and email)
SMTP PSWD: ****** (my dotmac password)
But, I cannot seem to get this to work. I tried it with another account I have with COMCAST.NET and I was able to successfully send emails using that account.
Is there something special about a dotmac account that I am missing?
    Thanks.
    PowerMac G4 MDD   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The information you’ve provided now is what I was asking for. Unfortunately, it’s still insufficient. It’s critical to know here whether the SMTP server does actually accept or reject the request of the mail client to send the message. Any conventional mail client would allow you to know that. In Mail, for example, you know that the message has been sent because Mail puts it in the Sent mailbox (whether the message arrives at the destination is an entirely different issue). And if the SMTP server rejects the message for some reason, Mail will report what the reason is.
Whether I’ve actually set up a different mail client to send with a .Mac account is irrelevant -- I don’t even have a .Mac account, for that matter, nor do I need one. Gee, if I needed to have the same accounts as the people I help, I couldn’t be here. Fortunately, I just need to know how email works and what the idiosyncrasies of some email services are, if any.
Try setting up your .Mac account using a conventional alternative mail client, such as Thunderbird, and you’ll see that you can do that with no problems -- or, if you have problems, it should be pretty clear what they are exactly and how to fix them.

  • Can't Set up Alias Email on Mac

Hi, I created a new alias email at icloud.com.  However, when I tried to set up that account on Mail on my mac, it won't let me enter an incoming email server.  It is greyed out with mail.example.com in it.
    Any thoughts?

Which domain is the alias using, and when did you make it?
Aliases are not accounts, they use the same servers as the account they are aliases of.
Open Mail>Preferences>Accounts. Enter the alias in the box marked alias.

  • Problem setting up ATT email account with Apple Mail

I have a main ([email protected]) and sub email account ([email protected]) with ATT/Yahoo (formerly SBC).
I set these accounts up on Apple Mail for the first time, and selected the option "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message "RIGHT AWAY". But Apple Mail would not allow me to select that option for both the primary and sub account. It allowed me to select that option for the first account I set up (the sub account), but when I tried to select that option for the second account (the main account), it would not permit me to save the option and gave me the following error message:
The account path /Users/edelbert/Library/Mail/[email protected]@pop.att.yahoo.com is already being used by the account "GIFilm"
It will allow me to select the option to remove the copy AFTER ONE WEEK, but then I receive the same message over and over each time Apple Mail checks the ATT server.
ATT claims that it is the result of an SSL conflict between its software and Apple's, and claims that Apple has created a bug fix, but I can find no evidence of such a patch.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks

As far as I can tell, the problem might be with my password. It's working on my iPhone, but not my computer.
If it's just a matter of changing the password, it's cool. But I can't figure out how to change the password.
Any ideas on changing the password in mail preferences?
    Thanks,
    mhh

  • HOWTO set scan to email using a google mail?

    Hi all ,
I am trying to scan to email with our HP 4100 mfp , I have already followed the manual and various tutorials on the net but still doesn't work .
The email accounts we use are google ones for businesses and they require authentication ssl, the problem is that is not possible to set the ssl parameters  on the printer setting .
Does anyone know what to put on smtp gateway and smtp server or  another trick to make it work?
    thanks

I think that all mail provider use the authentication and ssl to send.  I'm try to look for a provider that don't use these settings.

  • Help: Can't delete email account in OSX Mail

I have verizon.net email account that I had to update because verizon changed the incoming and outgoing servers.
Each of my family members has a separate profile on my Mac and I was able to successfully update their settings.
I have the admin account. No matter what I do, I can't get the new server settings to stick in MacOSX Mail.
So I tried to delete the email account via System Preferences. When I relaunch Mail or System Preferences, the account is stil there. When I try to delete the account from within Mail, I get an error message:
Account removal failed with error: “The operation couldn’t be completed. Unable to find an account for the UID given.”.
You can try deleting the account from the “Internet Accounts“ preference pane in System Preferences.
I even tried the steps in this thread using Terminal:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23824890#23824890
I even tried deleting the account in my Library preferences.
    No luck.
I had this problem on my 17" MacBook Pro. I just migrated to a Retina MacBook Pro using a Time Machine backup. Same exact problem. I'm thinking there's some bizarro preference thingy that is buried somewhere that needs to be removed.
Yes, I ran disk utility as well.
    Help me please!

After closing mail I used a plist editor and edited:
    /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Accounts.plist
    (as always TAKE A BACKUP)
I removed all key pairs to the offending account.
    Voila.
    Removed.
