Set up calendars both "on my mac" and on MobileMe?

I've gone with the flow and allowed my MobileMe calendars to update to the new system, but I'm now having second thoughts about the move, due to various minor glitches.  I do like the shared calendar feature for one or two calendars, but I would like to move a few other calendars off MobileMe.
Is there any trick to setting up some calendars "on my mac" and others on MobileMe?  Would having this setup create any particular issues?

Kevin,
Is there any trick to setting up some calendars "on my mac" and others on MobileMe?  Would having this setup create any particular issues?
Can you accept the fact that the "On My Mac" calendars will exist only locally on your computer and are incapable of being synced or edited on any other device? Local calendars can however, be published but will not be editable by any other subscriber.

  • How to sync both on my mac and icloud contacts

Why do I have calendars and contacts for both "On my Mac" and "iCloud"?  I want them to sync together so I don't have to edit both.  How do I go about syncing them as one?

On my mac calendars are intended to be private calendars that aren't synced, if you merely want all your calendars synced delete any calendars that are on my mac (or just uncheck them to hide them - make your default calendar an iCloud calendar) and just use iCloud calendars.
If you have any appointments in your on my mac calendars, double click them to edit and change the calendar to an iCloud calendar before deleting or hiding.

  • I cannot sign in to my icloud account, nor itunes and neither can download any app, both from my Mac and iphone

I cannot sign in to my icloud account, nor itunes and neither can download any app, both from my Mac and iphone. I cannot even sign in to my icloud account. Someone help me out plzzz

It means you are already signed into the ID as a secondary account on your Mac.  Go to System Preferences>Internet Accounts.  If you see this iCloud listed on the left sidebar, click on it and confirm that it shows your iCloud ID.  If so, click the "-" sign below the account list to delete it.  Then you should be able to go to System Preferences>iCloud and sign in with the ID as your primary iCloud account without getting this error.

  • HT204053 Why are calendars not synching between Mac and iPhone even though it shows as synching on info tab for iPhone? Mac on an OSX 10.6

Can't synch iPhone calendar thru iCloud/iTunes method from iPhone to Mac. Shows in info for iPhone as automatic update, but it is not updating calendar on the Mac.  I have OSX 10.6.8.

Thanks, that's what I feared. They assume POP3 users are willing to make a masive attempt to change their
public email address. Fortunately my secondary account, Yahoo, provided IMAP when IOS provided a custom setup for it, and I found I was able to select it as an OS-X mail account too.
As for why Notes weren't updating, I had not realized Notes had suddenly gained an account selector in both Mac and IOS and might be in various places. I was testing by changing existing notes resident on my Mac or USB iTunes synced from there. It works if I move them to the iCloud account and then change them.
I realize now there was an offer at some point in iCloud setup to merge or move some existing things, but I wasn't doing that that day, and I didn't get anouther offer when I enabled iCloud for Notes and Mail!
It might also help to go to setup->Mail... and set Fetch New Data to push, which should propagate the changes faster.

  • In iTunes 10 you could sync outlook calendars both over the cloud and the PC

I'd like to be able to sync over the iCloud and from my PC.

I am suddenly experiencing a similar issue with both my iPhone 3GS and my iPad 2.  Though both are set to sync over WiFi -- and have many times in the past, including earlier today -- they both suddenly are invisible to iTunes over WiFi.
The iPad 2 becomes visible to iTunes when I plug it in via the USB cable and can sync that way.  The iPhone 3GS, however, received this error message when I plugged it in via the USB cable:
"iTunes could not connect to the iPhone "iPhone" because an error occurred while reading the device."
Both devices have successfully synced both over WiFi and via USB cable up to this point.  Now, the iPad 2 can only sync via USB cable and the iPhone 3GS cannot sync or be seen by iTunes at all.

  • Help setting up sent mailbox both on my mac and on the server

First things first - I have an exchange account and use Mail.app. The sent folder is set to store on server. That part works fine. What I want to be able to do is have subfolders under Sent mail the same way I have under trash and junk - options for both the exchange and "on my mac." Right now, all I have is a single sent folder (see screenshot below). When I go into preferences and uncheck the box to store on the server, there's still only one folder. How can I get both options to appear? Is there something special I have to name the "on my mac" folder so it's recognized?
I have to download my sent mail periodically or I run into mailbox size limits, and storing mail locally changes the format so I can only see the from line, instead of the to: line. I've seen other people's mail where this is set up, so I know it's possible. I must be missing something.
    Thanks for any advice!

The only remaining logical drive (partition) is labeled Untitled, which tells me OS X is seeing it as a FAT32 (MS-DOS) drive. Which would also be why you can't choose it to install OS X to. Less likely, wrong partition map, but I'll explain that next.
So, you're going to have to run Disk Utility first. Click on the physical drive (the left indented name of the hardware) and repartition it. Change Current to 1 Partition so it activates the Options button. Click that and make sure the Partition Map is GUID. Change it if necessary and click OK. Make sure the drive format is Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Click Apply. Exit out of Disk Utility.
You should now be able to choose the new partition to reinstall OS X to.

  • Same Calendars, different order on Mac and iPhone

I've been having the sync problem that many others have been having: i.e., when I sync to one of my two MacBook Pros, the computer overwrites the iPhone. This doesn't happen with the other MacBook. But my more specific question is: I noticed that my iPhone has the same Calendar names as both of my MacBooks, but not in the same order. Does this say that something is wrong, too?

If the Address Book on your Mac includes contact info and the same for your iPhone's address book, the first time you sync with a supported address book on your computer, a merge option should be provided. This should merge the data between the two, not provide duplicates.
If you want the more current contact info that is available on your iPhone transferred to the Address Book on your Mac, the only way to do this is via the merge option which should be provided with the first sync. If you want to ensure than contact info will not be duplicated, and you want the contact info that is available on your iPhone transferred to the Address Book on your Mac, delete all contact info in the Address Book on your Mac except for one contact. This should provide the merge prompt when syncing contact info, which you want to select. If the remaining contact in the Address Book on your Mac is duplicated on your iPhone and with the Address Book on your Mac after the initial sync, you can delete only one duplicate instead of many, if all contact is duplicated when selecting the merge prompt, which I don't believe is what happens with a merge. After the initial sync for contact info, the contact info between the two will be synchronized.
The same applies to calendar events on your iPhone with the first sync with iCal on your Mac.
A merge should merge the data, not create duplicates, but I haven't tried the same after restoring the Address Book on my Mac from a backup with a new hard drive.

  • How to set-up a wireless system for Mac and Windows?

In a few weeks I will visit my brother in Tennessee, USA who has a cable modem (very good speed - "Comcast") connected to one desktop PC (Windows XP I believe).
I want to spend 2-3 weeks at his home using my MacBook core duo (May 2006 version) via wireless-- and what is the BEST way to install a wireless internet access for my brother that I can use for the 3 week visit? NOTE: After I leave, this has to work for him wireless with his PC's - not Macintoshes. But I want to have the flexibility to be in several rooms of his long (but single story) home during my stay.
Can I use an AirPort Extreme Base Station "n" and if so, will my MacBook work with this at maximum download / upload speed (i.e. equivalent to the cable) - and will my brother's PC's also be able to connect? Or is there another Airport base station?
OR-- should I head down to "Generic Computer Store" and just by a wireless router (WiFi)(think that's what they call them) and connect this to his cable modem? IF SO WILL THAT WORK FOR MY MAC?
Thanks for any comments or references here -
    Regards,
    Steve

Can I use an AirPort Extreme Base Station "n"
    Yes.
and if so, will my MacBook work with this at maximum download / upload speed (i.e. equivalent to the cable)
The speed of your internal network generally is much much faster than the speed of your internet connection. Unless he has an internet connection faster than approx 6Mbps then even dropping down to the old 802.11b Airport would not seen any decrease in speed of downloads etc...
and will my brother's PC's also be able to connect?
If his PC is 802.11b/g-compliant, it shouldn't have any problems connecting to the AirPort base station.
Or is there another Airport base station?
The other AirPorts would work, but the AirPort Express & older 802.11g AirPort Extreme base stations have a max. range of 150 feet.
OR-- should I head down to "Generic Computer Store" and just by a wireless router (WiFi)(think that's what they call them) and connect this to his cable modem? IF SO WILL THAT WORK FOR MY MAC?
That is always an option as well, especially since he will be the primary user throughout the year. I'd suggest going with a brand name, like Belkin, D-Link, or Linksys for the wireless router choice.

  • Problems with entering verification code for iCloud on both mac and iPhone

Hello Apple, I am a totally blind mac user and wish to use iCloud keychain. I tried to set it up both on my mac and IOS device so that they can sync all of my account information, but have no luck. Every time I want to set up my iCloud, I have issues because it asks me to verify my identity with apple support. When I click the link to the iCloud support page, there is no way I can contact apple directly or fill out forms to verify my account. I would love to use the iCloud keychain to keep track of my accounts. What should I do in this case?
    Any suggestions are welcomed.
    Thank you very much.

  • Can I set up a home network between my mac and a windows based laptop?

Can I set up a homenetwork between my mac and a windows based laptop?

The router is te network hub.
I have a network between my Linux box and my PC  and my MBP because they are both hooked up the the same router.  All you need is the "192.168.1.x" address of the destination box and the software needed for the type of conection (VNC, SSH, etc).
What helps is to set up "static routing" for all boxes so the IP address does not change.  I have set up my Linux box to be 192.168.1.100 always, using the MAC (the ethernet abbreviation MAC, not Macintosh) in the router's "static routing" table.
Exactly which screens you need in the router depends on te router make and the internal management screens.  The router maker should have either online (if they offer it past a 1 year from purchase) or online help found through Google.  A MAC address is a set of 6 hexadecimal number separated by ":" -- an example (which I imagine will match *some* MAC *somewhere* is "6A:13:F2:72:E4:A1".

  • Calendar synching on Mac and iPhone but NOT on iPad

Hey,folks! I have a iPhone 4, iPad (third generation ) and a MacBook 2006- snow leopard . Trying to sync my calendars. On the Mac and iPhone is done. But nothing on the iPad . In all the devices I am using the same account. My settings look to be all right, I mean in the "same page". But still, I can't sync my calendar on the iPad . Any idea?

Sorry for misreading, but you can do the same thing for events.

  • Need to backup itouch calendar to older g4 mac

Hi, I have an older g4 running 10.4. Initially when I set up my ipod touch, it took the calendar info from the mac and moved it to the ipod. I've been syncing the device without syncing calendars because I've been afraid the computer will replace the ipod's calendar with the older computer's calendar(which I don't use). I really need to backup the ipod calendar, but don't want to erase or replace its' calendar.
What are the steps I need to do to correct this? I am syncing via cord, btw.

It should SYNC, just like your contacts do. This is the point of the calendar function. It syncs to your computer so that both are always the same ( assuming you regularly sync).
I can't imagine why you haven't been syncing the calendar the same way you have been syncing everything else.

  • Sync Mac and iPhone and backup to iCloud

I've had my iPhone for eight months and it's about time  for me to take advantage of iCloud. I tried this when I first got my iPhone and it didn't work the way I expected. I might have been trying to do toomuch new at once. First I use Apple's iCal and Apple's Address Book. I want to be able to sync changes in both between laptop (Mac) and iPhone, back and forth and backup to iCloud. Last time I tried I think it only synced either changes from iPhone to Laptop or visa versa. My wife has an iPad and iPhone and syncs hers to a different Mac. I guess this would work the same? I probably should get mine solve, then work on hers.
    Thanks

This is my calendar list, if it helps.
The private calendar won't sync with anything, it only appears on my mac.
The work home and office calendars sync with iCloud and between all my devices.
The karting calendar syncs with another iCloud account, it will not sync with my primary iCloud event.
Therefore if I create an appointment in either the private or the karting calendars, they will not sync with other devices. I suspect having two work and two home calendars is confusing the matter and you need to turn the correct calendars off and ensure your default calendar in iCal preferences > general is set to the correct calendar so that you aren't creating events in a non iCloud calendar.

  • How Can I use 2 Macs and a PC with two monitors

This is for my office at work.
I currently am using dual monitors and sharing those between a G4 and a PC. I'm using a Belkin switch box for the two computers. I'm adding a Mac Pro. I'm thinking I might use the Mac Pro by itself at another workstation but I would like to use it at my current workstation along with my other machines.
I'm getting a new 23" monitor with the Mac Pro. I want to use it as my main monitor, then use one of my other monitors as a second screen. Is it possible to use two monitors with 3 computers? I would have to use the new keyboard and mouse (both will be standard, not wireless) on both of the macs and use the PC keyboard and mouse.
    Thank You
    Jim

I would use the new Mac Pro as the main workstation and attach your mouse, keyboard and your new monitor to it.
Then use the Belkin Switch Box to connect 1 monitor to the G4 and PC.
Download and configure 'Synergy' (http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/) on the new Mac Pro (as the primary) and the G4 and PC (as secondary) - This will allow you to deal with only one keyboard and mouse.
I'm with Malcolm, I would download and install VMware Fusion. VM the PC w/ Converter (http://www.vmware.com/products/converter/) and only deal with the new Mac Pro and G4. With the new Mac Pro, you can fire up the PC VM with 2 cores and have it set to a secondary space. You will not notice the difference.
