Set up database in 8i Personal Edition

I currently have a rather large database (27 GB) that runs 8i
Enterprise. I would like to be able to work with the database
while I'm on the road. I have installed 8i Personal Edition and
have copied over my database files to a external hard drive that
connects to my notebook via USB. I can not get 8i to recognize
the database on a different drive. Any ideas?

from a enterprise edition.
If you have NT, then its better to install a enterprise edition.

  • Starting database in 8i Personal Edition

Hi, I installed 8i on a Win2000 workstation. I get a windows error every time I try to start DBA studio to start a database:
EXTPROC.exe has caused errors and will be shutdown....
Any answers? I hope to get this thing working for a class at Chico. Thanks
    James

I'm running Oracle 8.1.6, release 2, on Windows 2000 professional, with SP1 installed. I'm not clear whether the extproc error is an application error, or a configuration error. Any help with trouble-shooting this would be much appreciated.

  • Oracle9i Database Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000

    Hi,
I've downloaded disk1&disk2. Disk1 successfully unzips but disk2 fails with the message
I/O error unable to read from zip file
This only happens for the large files in the zip.
    Is this familiar?
    Regards
    Phil

looks like the zip file is corrput ... so down it again and this time make sure you have ur browser/web settings to accept al cookies ... this way it works better thru windows downer and any other down-manager too ... just a suggestion tough.

  • Differences between Oracle Personal Edition and Enterprise Edition

What are the differences between the databases of Oracle Personal Edition and the Oracle Enterprise Edition..?

I have just looked at the metalink document and see that Oracle are still blatantly lying about the availability of analytical functions.
We chose standard edition on the basis of this document and were very annoyed to find we could not use analytical functions.
The document is about 8i. Of course we are all on 9i these days aren't we ?

  • Oracle 8 personal edition - Installation problem

    Dear Sirs,
I want install on windows xp the database Oracle 8 Personal Edition.
I select to install only the database standard without the reply.
Start the installatin and when dependency analysis oracle give the error:
stopsrvc.vrf{78}: Type mismatch in argument '0' when calling 'contains'
stopsrvc.vrf{78}: 'STRING' expected when 'LIST' found.
    Can you help me?
I know that this version of DB is not supported. But I must a test.

This combination, to my knowledge, was never certified. If I am not wrong, you need to find a Windows 98 SE/2000 setup for running this personal edition successfully.

  • Personal Edition on Linux?

Can anyone explain why one can license Oracle Database (any version) Personal Edition on Windows Server but not on Linux? Both OSs are designed to support multiple users, are they not?
    Ref: http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/editions.htm#BABDJGGI

So Oracle database Personal Edition does have meaning on Windows Server context but not on Linux Enterprise?
Many organizations I know use Red Hat Enterprise Server, or SuSE Enterprise Linux in ''dedicates user' mode. Not to mention those developers and consultants who want a supported environment for Oracle EE and *nix and have an enterprise Linux machine.
Running a single person consulting shop, I find the combination of RHES and Oracle PE totalling USD$650-700 for supported development is a lot easier to swallow than needing to go to a Oracle EE license for an added $50,000. (Too bad SE or XE do not support options like SPatial.)
Right now, the ONLY reason I have any Windows machine left in my shop is for Oracle PE.

  • Oracle 8i Personal Edition Replacement?

I was looking to download Oracle 8i Personal Edition for a class I am taking, but I don't see a link to do that anywhere. Is there a version 9i replacement for the 8i Personal Edition?
The only possible link I could find was to a 3 disk (CD)download that was available through the link labeled: "Oracle9i Database Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/XP Pro" off the web page at: http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/oracle9i/content.html
This seems to large of a download for the personal edition, so this leads me to believe that this is not the right link.

Listener is used to allow remote clients to connect to your local database.
Remote client connections to a local database is not supported with Oracle Personal edition.

  • Unable to download Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition f

Unable to download Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/XP

If you read the Release notes for 9.2.0.3 for Win 2003, it says
"Releases prior to the 9.2.0.3.0 patch set are not certified on Windows Server 2003".
You'll avoid known and maybe some unknown problems with it, so just install 9.2.0.1 and then apply 9.2.0.3 patch set and be happy :)

  • Deployment of objects in OWB10g with Personal Edition Database

When trying to deploy objects in a Personal Oracle 10g database with OWB10g, the following error occurs:
RPE-01011: Cannot deploy to target database location because it does not have a compatible version.
Deployment on the same database but on Enterprise Edition works fine.
Oracle does not support OWB on Personal Edition, but I found a workaround to use OWB on a Personal Edition database. The problem is that the Deployment Manager checks for the version number from PRODUCT_COMPONENT_VERSION where PRODUCT like 'Oracle%'. It returns the version number, but with this query no rows are returned in Personal Edition because the product name does not begin with 'Oracle' (Personal Oracle Database 10g).
I found a workaround in redefining the definition of the view SYS.PRODUCT_COMPONENT_VERSION so that it returns 'Oracle Database 10g Personal Edition' for the database component. The deployment manager will then find the correct number, and you can deploy just as you would with Enterprise Edition.
Statement used to redefine the view:
create or replace view sys.product_component_version as
    (select
    substr(banner,1, instr(banner,'Version')-1) product,
    substr(banner, instr(banner,'Version')+8,
    instr(banner,' - ')-(instr(banner,'Version')+8)) version,
    substr(banner,instr(banner,' - ')+3) status
    from v$version
    where instr(banner,'Version') > 0
    and
    ((instr(banner,'Version') < instr(banner,'Release')) or
    instr(banner,'Release') = 0))
    union
    (select
    substr(banner,1, instr(banner,'Release')-1),
    substr(banner, instr(banner,'Release')+8,
    instr(banner,' - ')-(instr(banner,'Release')+8)),
    substr(banner,instr(banner,' - ')+3)
    from v$version
    where instr(banner,'Release') > 0
    and
    instr(banner,'Release') < instr(banner,' - ')
    AND BANNER NOT LIKE '%Database%')
    union
    (select
    'Oracle Database 10g Personal Edition',
    substr(banner, instr(banner,'Release')+8,
    instr(banner,' - ')-(instr(banner,'Release')+8)),
    substr(banner,instr(banner,' - ')+3)
    from v$version
    where instr(banner,'Release') > 0
    and
    instr(banner,'Release') < instr(banner,' - '))

  • "Personal Edition" & "Oracle Database 10g for Linux"

Is there a personal edition for "Oracle Database 10g for Linux" ?

The enterprise edition download CD will give you the option of installing the personal edition as one of the install options.

  • Error installing Oracle 9i Database Enterprise/personal edition for win xp

    Hi,
Not sure if anyone can help me, but I just finish downloading the
Oracle Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/XP (32 bit)
When I finished unzipping the 3 files into Disk1, Disk2, and Disk3 folders I tried running the setup.exe file but nothing happens.
I am using windows XP as my operating system. Can anyone tell me why the setup is not working?
    Thank you.

    XP Professional, or XP Home?
There are a lot of cases where people have tried and failed to install on XP Home. Also a few successes.
Also, how is your firewall and anti-virus software configured. Those may be blocking your install process.

  • Oracle Database Personal Edition - Metalink

    Hello,
I have a doubt, can you please tell me if I obtain an CSI (Customer Support Identifier) when I buy an Oracle Database Personal Edition license. I want to have access to metalink site.
    Thank you in advance
    -Ceci

You need to purchase a Personal Edition license. You can get that for one year, two years, five years or forever.
Once you have a product license, you need to purchase the support contract. It's the support contract that gets you access to metalink.
The support contract is renewed every year (repeated to the maximum years of the license). The support renewal costs a fee each year. However, you do not need to purchase a new license if the current license is still valid.

  • Oracle Database Personal Edition

Hi, If I buy Oracle Database Personal Edition with perpetual license and 1 year support, can I use full database support Meta-Link? If answer is yes, can I renew this support?

Hi, If I buy Oracle Database Personal Edition with perpetual license and 1 year support, can I use full database support Meta-Link? I'd say - yes. You can create support cases and download patches for Oracle Database Personal Edition. And you can search and read articles there.
If answer is yes, can I renew this support?I'd say - yes. But you better consult with Oracle representative.

  • Any Oracle database personal edition certified for Windows 7/32bit?

Is any Oracle database Personal edition certified for Windows 7/32bit? I spent an hour at least searching for this but no chance.
    Thank you.

Currently, only 11gR2 and 10.2.0.5 are certified on Win 7 Professional or higher - Home versions are not supported.

  • Oracle 10g Personal edition as a Client Database

Hi, Our enterprise application runs as in both Online and offline mode. For offline mode it uses Microsoft accesss as Data Store. Now we want to use Oracle 10g Personal Edition as Our client database, so that we can use stored procedure and have code base for both server and client. Oracle XE can not be used because Oracle XE is not supported by Oracle.
Please suggest what is the best way to deploy Oracle PE to get smallest footprint and best performance. It is alright to use PE as client DB or it is too much for offline application.
Any suggested customizations or Alternatives. We have rules out Oracle Database lite because it doesn't support Pl/ SQL SP. Thanks.

Note that Personal Edition is actually designed for Developers. It includes all options to the Enterprise Edition (except RAC) but is limited by license agreement to being used by one named person. You can not legally provide data from Personal Edition through direct connection electronically (eg: a web or app server) to several people. You also can not say "John is using it now, and when he is off, Fred will use it."
The best and smallest footprinit is XE, but (as you say) you can not purchasse support from Oracle. Next is Standard Edition 1, with a Standard Edition software install (SE and SE1 are the same s/w) and a custom-created DB.
