Set up iCloud in Mail

When I try to set up my iCoud account as an email account in Apple Mail, the application fills in all the details except for my iCoud email address and password.  In the incoming mail server field, it fills in p08-imap.mail.me.com
But when I try to save the account settings, by navigating to another email account, I get the message 'Incoming mail server cannot be blank'. Yet this field cannot be typed-into. Because it is iCloud, it seems, Apple Mail makes that field read-only.
What do I do now?

Well, for the moment, all is well, but I am not sure why.  I un-marked Mail in iCloud prefs, and when I marked it again, the panel said it had to be done in my mail program.  (Why it's this way sometimes, and the other way sometimes remains a mystery.)
Then I went to Mail and set up an iCloud account, changing as little as possible.  For example, before, I had used [email protected] as my email addrss, but this time, I used [email protected], just because some little tea leaves said that was better. And i eschewed changing the deafult mailbox behaviors, whereas before, I had made it keep trash forever.
So this time it worked!
In the past, when I have had an iCloud account set up in Mail, the connection to the outgoing iCloud mail server would fail for no known reason, as confirmed by Connection Doctor.  But now, (AS LONG AS I TOUCH NOTHING), it seems to be OK.
One additional mystery:  though my iCloud account shows that it uses the iCloud server for outgoing mail, none of my other accounts can use it for outgoing mail, because it doesn't show up in the list of servers. Is that docmented or explained anywhere?
I will keep this inquiry open for a few days, in case something else goes South.

  • Can;t set up iCloud in Mail with Mavericks

    Hi,
I am unable to set up icloud in mail.  II used migration assistant tto migrate from an older macbook pro running mavericks to a new one and for some reason there was an issue with iCloud Mail.  I then tried to add the account and despite no error messages, it fails to display in Mail.
I am able to set up other accounts like Gmail and Exchange and they behave properly.  I have the latest version of Mail v7 (updated) and have successfully set up iCloud using a test account on my mac.  This means that the problem is user specific. I have tried removing mail dir in library and plists in preferences to set up mail again but with no luck.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hello,
I just got a Mac for a first time and I'm trying to configure Mail 3.5 with my gmail account and even after having followed all the steps seen on this forum, I just can't do it. The messages that come up are:
"The IMAP server "imap.gmail.com" is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to receive messages"
    AND
"The SMTP server "smtp.gmail.com" is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to send messages"
it might be very basic but I can't manage. Can anyone help??
    Thanks in advance!!

  • Can't verify the e-mail sent to set up iCloud on my devices

When setting up my iCloud account I enter an erroneus e-mail and now can't verify that account to set up iCloud on my devices. Even if I delete the iCloud account the Apple ID account comes linked to that erroneous e-mail and can't continue on the iCloud account set up. How can I delete that erroneous e-mail account?

  • Can I set my iCloud email as the outgoing mail server for my google apps email account in Mac Mail?

I have a google apps email account from an old client, all my work emails have been going to it for years. As I'm no longer affiliated with this client I'd like to make a transition to using my iCloud account for work. I asked people to use my iCloud address but as they've been using my google apps address for years it's what automatically comes up when they type my name.
I figure the easiest way to make a transition is if I reply to all the emails that arrive at my old address from my iCloud address and gradually they will start using my new address without realising it. But I can't find a simple way to do this.
In Mac Mail preferences > accounts > Google IMAP (my old account name) > Account information > Outgoing Mail server (SMTP) I'd like to set my iCloud SMTP server. But although my iCloud account uses its own outgoing mail server for its own account , it is not in the server list when I select my google account. I've tried to add it to the server list as smtp.mail.me.com but it caused my whole iCloud account to give me error messages until I force quit Mail...
    Any ideas?

In iCloud/Mail, have you tried going to Preferences (select with gear at lower left)/Composing and setting a Send from address there?

In order to use your Apple ID to create an iCloud account, the primary email address associated with the ID must first be verified.  To do this, Apple will send a verification email to your account and you must respond to the email by clicking the Verify Now link.  Make sure you are check the spam/junk folder as well as the inbox.  If it isn't there, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage your Apple ID, sign in, click on Name, ID and Email addresses on the left, then to the right click Resend under your Primary Email Address to resend the verification email.

  • HT4759 I now have my daughters iPad can you please tell me why I can't set up iCloud.in settings the iCloud is greyed out also how do I change her mail account to mine?

I now have my daughters iPad can you please tell me why I can't set up iCloud.in settings the iCloud is greyed out also how do I change her mail account to mine?

To change your iCloud ID or password you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with your other ID.  If you need to migrate any of your daughter's iCloud data to your account, choose Keep on My iPad when prompted, then choose Merge to upload it to the new account.  If not, choose Delete from My iPad.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Mail preferences > Accounts and set it up using the Mail Server Information.
Some users have apparently encountered issues using this information in pre-Lion set ups (I haven't), Roger Wilmut has kindly provided instructions for those who find themselves with this problem.
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard

  • Just set up icloud and now mail won't...

I just set up icloud on my mac and now my mail won't recognize my password. Formerly, on mobileme i had the main computer which was pre-intel so now I'm switching to my intel mac. Everything is fine on cloud, all the data is there, but on my computers (intel computer and also pre-intel) when I try to check my mail it keeps saying that it doesn't recognize the password. I get mail fine on my iphone, and when I log into icloud but not on my computers (pre-intel or intel).

It's because you are using Leopard.  You will need to either upgrade your Mac to Snow Leopard then Lion or manually set up mail on your Mac in Mac Mail.  http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmail.html is a link to a tutorial online on how to set up your mail manually on your Mac.  MobileMe is offering a free upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard.  The link is me.com/snow-leopard.  You can redeem a free disc to get your Mac to Snow Leopard, you will have to pay for the upgrade to Lion yourself though.

  • TS3988 what is the iCloud incoming mail server setting?

what is the iCloud incoming mail server setting?

imap.mail.me.com - but you shoudn't need to enter this manually. If you are having problems, sign out in System Preferences>iCloud, then sign back in again and enable Mail in the checklist. Your data will disappear from your Mac when you sign out but will return when you sign back in.

  • Mac and iPod won't let me set up iCloud Mail. Server not responding.

When I first got in to iCloud, my Mail app on my Mac and iPod were fine, but when U went back to them some time later, they kept requesting my password and then not connecting to the servers. I deleted the account from all Mail apps and tried to set them back up again, but now it says the servers aren't responding and won't let me continue setting up my accounts.
I can send and recieve emails from icloud.com.
    Any help?

I've just had another look at it, and it seems it doesn't save your password so keeps signing out before it gets a chance to connect with the servers. The tickbox next to the Mail icon under the iCloud section in System Preferences keeps deselecting itself. This also happens when trying to log into icloud.com, where it says "Keep me signed in", it doesn't keep you signed in.

  • Why won't my iCloud email address set up on mac mail?

Been trying to use my iCloud alias email address by setting up iCloud on my mac mail. It connects iCloud but says the password is wrong for the icloud address...but it's just my AppleID password.
Tried setting up as account 'other' and enetering the settings from here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864 but still saying password not correct.
    Driving me mad!!
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
