Set-up nano as second ipod

My son already has an ipod photo set-up on our pc and an itunes account. I want to set-up a 2GB nano as a separate ipod with a separate itunes account.
Unfortuantely, when I first plugged in the nano the pc immediately treated it as my son's photo and downloaded all of his songs.
It is like the pc cannot distunguish between the two ipods.
  Windows XP

Open iTunes in the other account. Is the music there? (Without connecting the iPod)
If not, then connect the iPod to the computer with that account open. When the iPod appears in iTunes, go to edit-->preferences. Click the iPod tab. Make sure it is set to automatically update all songs and playlists. Click OK.
If no music (or just your music) is in that account's iTunes library, your son's music will be deleted and the music from that account will be added.
You could also restore your iPod and then start fresh with a blank iPod and your own music...
Restore the iPod
Again though, the above assumes that when you open iTunes in the other account, his music is not there, and that only when you connect the iPod does that music come up.

  • What is the best way to sync a second Ipod (7th generation nano) to itunes

What is the easiest way to sync a second Ipod (7th gerneration nano)?  I want all my songs on both ipods.

iTunes treats each iPod separately, so you can set up each iPod's syncing as desired, without regard to the other one.  You can connect them both at the same time, and set them up differently or identically.
Here is a convenient way to set up automatic syncing, and in your case, keep both iPods in sync with each other.
I want all my songs on both ipods.
First, if your entire iTunes music library ("all of my songs") fits on the iPod, it will be easy.  Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of "tabs" (starting with Summary).  Click on Music there.  Set it to Sync Music.  Below that, chose to sync Entire music library.  Apply the change.  Your entire music library syncs to your iPod.  Repeat for other iPod.  Any changes you make to your iTunes music library going forward syncs automatically to your iPods, when you connect them (or click the Sync button).
Otherwise, if your music library does not fit (or you want to be more selective), you need to set up the Music tab, but choose to sync Select playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  This is where you can keep it simple...
Create a new regular playlist in iTunes, and name it something like "iPod Songs."  Add ALL of the songs you want on your iPod to that playlist.  Back on the Music tab, find and select ONLY that new playlist under Playlists.  Apply the change.  The songs on that playlist sync to your iPod.  Repeat for other iPod.  Going forward, when you want to update songs on your iPods, just update that playlist (add and remove songs).  Changes you make to that playlist sync automatically to your iPods, when you connect them (or click the Sync button).

  • Second iPod Nano

    Hi. I recently got a 1GB Nano which I use with i-Tunes 6.0.5.
I wish to purchase another Nano (maybe a 2GB) model. Can I update both the Nanos using v6.0.5 of iTunes on my Win XP-PRO computer. I don't want to have to create another user account on the computer but just plug each Nano into i-Tunes via USB2, one at a time to sync my songs.
    Much obliged

If both iPods are for your own use and you want to use your existing library then you just need to connect your second iPod and follow the onscreen intructions. The iPod will connect to iTunes and update. You can choose whatever update method suits you.
    For info:
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • 5G iPod Backlight Setting Defaults to 10 Seconds

I've upgraded to iTunes 7.0 for my Mac mini and 5G iPod.
Now, after I disconnect the iPod from the computer, the backlight setting defaults to 10 seconds. I like the backlight to be always off; so I switch it to that setting. Once I reconnect the iPod to the computer, it goes back to 10 seconds of backlight. Has anyone else experienced this? Not a big deal, but with iTunes 6, I didn't have this happen.
Thanks for any tips or tricks.

    Thanks for the tip, Dana.
I tried the "restore" as suggested from your link.
Even after the restore, my iPod defaults to 10 seconds back lighting once it's reconnected to the computer.
Not a huge deal. Was just wondering if anyone else had noticed the same thing.
    Cheers!

  • How do I set up my second Ipod and itunes library (same computer)?

I recently filled up my first Ipod, and want to load my second Ipod's software on the same computer without causing interference and problems with my first ipod and library. How do I load my second ipod's software and create a library just for it, without the libraries becoming confused, or not recognizing ipods, or double copying songs?
    Thanks in advance,

  • TS1591 I just bought a second iPod touch (4th gen), but when I connect the second iPod to my computer it is not recognizing it. How can I have two iPod's set up????

So I had an iPod touch and everything with it is fine. I just bought a second one for my daughter...exactly the same as my iPod. This second one was bought used, but was reset completely before I plugged it into my computer. My problem is... my iTunes does not recognize the second touch as a device! I can't get it to sync, so I can't get any music or anything onto the device. How can I have two iPod touches on my computer? Is there something special that I have to do to get my computer to recognize this second touch as a different device?? PLEASE HELP!!!

    - If you are using the same USB port and the same cable and have iTunes version 10.7 or later on the computer there is something wrong with the iPod.
    - Does the second iPod work?
    - Does it charge?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Purchased music on one iPod Touch gets attached to second iPod Touch.

I have one account and 6 devices.  iCloud has been disabled... and I do not want it enabled.  I particularly hate it!
    The issue is:
We have two iPod Touches that are G1 and G2, two iPod Touches that are Gen 5 with the latest updates to iOS, and we also have two iPod Nanos.  There is no issues with the old iPod Touches nor the iPod Nanos.
On my iTunes I have separate folders for each iPod, named accordingly.  In those folders are the music that those iPods are to be loaded with.  The issue comes with the 5th Generation iPod Touches where it will sync all of the music in our appropriate folders, however, there is also music that was purchased on one iPod Touch 5th Gen that automatically gets attached to the second iPod Touch 5th Gen.  No matter what I try it remains on both iPods and it is not wanted.
I took the iPod that doesn't want the music (my husband's) and restored factory settings on it and then when I set it up again... the unwanted music is still there. I did this after syncing the device 2 or 3 times with just syncing the selected folders.  It took me awhile to figure out that all of the music that is deemed "unwanted" is purchases that I made on my iPod Touch Gen 5 and automatically showed up on my husband's.
What do I have to do to get rid of the music on his iPod?  Set up his own ID?  If so... that only affects purchases correct?  Meaning, he can still sync with our iTunes folders on our home computer but if he were to purchase a song on his iPod, he would have to submit credit card info etc, otherwise the same thing would happen and both iPods would have the purchased music.
I may have answered my own question, but I would like it confirmed before I set up new ID's and delete anymore items from his iPod.
    Thank you

Illaass:  I didn't try this... is this on the iPod itself?  I'm just wondering though, where I've already put the device back to factory a couple of times and then tried syncing just his list and those songs still popped up.  If I delete everything and re-sync, wouldn't it do it again?  I'll try it tonight and let you know.
PS:  Chris CA:  Originally I did have the clouds, but I got rid of them.  It didn't change anything though.  Purchased music still there.  Funny thing... I can purchase off my old iPod and it does not automatically go to mine nor my husband's new iPods, but if I purchase on the new iPods, it'll go to both new ones but not to the old ones.  I'm assuming this has something to do with the iOS.
I'll be back tomorrow to let you guys know how I made out with the deleting thing. Thank you so much for all of your help and suggestions.  At least the iPods work.  He's just cranky because he doesn't like some of my music choices so he doesn't want them on his iPod.  LOL

I too have the same problem. I have 4 ipod nanos 3 of which are 5th generation and i am a little confused on how to sync/register them on to the one laptop that we all use. My ipod (4th gen) is already registered and has all my songs on it and i need to add 3 more ipods for the rest of the family. Do i go through the same process of registering and create their own account? or do i just uncheck the box when it says 'automatically sync ipod?' help would be much appreciated as its christmas day and they are all itching to redeem their itune cards and get started with their new toys lol

  • Problems  with syncing a second iPod

I have a number of playlists that I generated and have used with my first iPod. I recently purchased a second iPod, a nano, for my wife. When I synced it with iTunes, it created a playlist using the nano's user name and copied all the song names in my library into the playlist instead of copying the existing playlists. What did I do wrong and how do I correct this?

Sounds like you have the iPod set to sync automatically which will fill up the iPod until it is full.
When the iPod is mounted in iTunes click on the iPod tab and check "manually manage music and videos" then select which playlists you want copied to the iPod.

  • I just purchased a new ipod touch so now I have two. I do not want the second ipod touch to sync the same as the old ipod touch - 2 people with 2 different music preferences. How do I keep them separate.

I just purchased a new ipod touch so now I have two. I do not want the second ipod touch to sync the same as the old ipod touch - 2 people with 2 different music preferences. How do I keep them separate.

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • ITunes wants me to set up or restore my iPod Touch again-or eject it!

I bought this iPod Touch only two months ago. And since this is my second iPod (the first was a 5 gen that I had had for a couple years), I only did the initial iTunes 8 update I had to do when I bought it. Since it had been working fine, I didn't do any subsequent update(s). My motto is if it ain't broke...Anyhow, I don't normally do updates unless there is a really big gain I want. However, as of yesterday whenever I tried to sync it, iTunes wanted me to set up my iPod touch as a new iPod or restore it. Although it recognized the iPod's name, it wouldn't list any of the other information on it (playlists, etc.). The only other option I had was to eject it. I didn't understand why with no changes to my iPod or iTunes I would have to set it up again or restore it all of a sudden. When I called apple support, I was told that, "there was a problem that has been fixed and now in order for it to stay fixed, you have to restore it one more time." The lady that told me this got this from a product specialist. So I asked her what was the problem? Was it with iTunes or my iPod? How did it get fixed? She couldn't answer these questions but said that something kept updating and since it has been fixed but sees certain issues on the iPod, it wants to restore it so I had no choice but to restore it. Okay. I never updated iTunes 8 since the first time I downloaded it in September. So, why is it updating itself anyway??? Or is it something else that is updating itself? What's updating when I haven't done anything at all? I don't get it. I asked her if I could speak to the specialist myself because I'd like to be able prevent this from happening again (and to just have a basic understanding of what happened). She said I could and put me on hold and nobody ever picked up. I called back and a very nice guy answered that said that these things just happen sometimes (like once a year). I'm not really angry with them. They didn't make the things. I just want to know why it happened. Does anyone out there have an explanation? Have you had this experience?
Okay. This might be a better area to post this so...
