Set up of Second Screen

Two new 27" Apple Monitors attached to my Mac Pro and both working fine with one bothersome exception. The right screen is my main screen with the dock and drives and files all available and visible with the selected choice of a desktop photo. The left screen IF mirrored would reflect or mirror the right screen IF so selected in the Display window of System Preferences. HOWEVER, I wish to choose a different background for the left screen which is in fact the extended desktop. The left screen shows the Apple generic Outer Universe Screen and I want to change it to something else. Although the choices are evident and selectable, I am unable to effect the change I want.
Will very much appreciate your assistance.

Ron

How can I set up Cinema Display as a main screen and leave my macbook pro as a second screen instead?

I learned that the Dock is positioned at the chosen edge of whatever Display is positioned farthest to that side.  E.g. for the Dock to be positioned on the right side of the Cinema Display (instead of the right side of the MacBook), the Cinema Display must be oriented (by dragging) to the right of the MacBook monitor on the "Arrangement" tab of the Displays Preference Panel.

  • In FCPX 10.1 and 10.2, I set FCPX on desktop 2. When i go back to desktop 1 for any reason, my second screen viewer leaves desktop 2 and travels to desktop 1

I use two desktops in OS-X. One is for FCPX (desktop 2) and one is for default things, browser, email etc.
I have two screens, and my second screen is my viewer. When I am in FCPX, all is fine, viewer is on screen 2 as it should be but if I flip over to desktop 1, the second screen travels with me and then does not return when i go back to FCPX.. so then I have to three finger swipe up and move the screen back, and it sticks there 1 in 5 tries, if that. I have removed preferences, reset, all the normal obvious things. I am 99.9% sure this is a bug as I can replicate it time and time again.

I found this as I am too experiencing the exact same issue.  When I restart the synced databases are gone, corrupt and incomplete.
How did you resolve this ?

You don't need an application, just plug a compaitble monitor into the display port of your MacBook Pro, set the screen up in System Preferences>Displays

  • What options do I have if I want to set up a dual screen?

I have a Thinkpad T400 with a ATI Radeon HD3470 card. I am running the latest Arch x86_64 with Fluxbox and the 9.4 Catalyst drivers.
What is the easiest solution to set up a dual screen? Is there a way to do this without editing xorg.conf? Not that editing xorg.conf really is a big problem, but I will be moving around a bit and finding the correct settings for each screen would take some work. And I would like to see how far the dual screen development has come on GNU/Linux.
The way I see it the best way would be to have two screens with separate resolutions. Since LCD screens do not handle resolutions other then the native very well. So just stretching the screen makes the slave screen run the same height as the parent screen. Or am I wrong? It is not a problem running stretched if the screens run at the native resolution.
So, xrandr just gives me stretching. And the need of editing xorg.conf.
What about Twinview(just for nVidia) and Xinerama?
    Is there other solutions?
    SOLUTIONS:
There is arandr and lxrandr, both frontends to xrandr. Requires minimal xorg.conf editing. Only add a virtual line in the screen section. The virtual size does not have to be accurate, it only have to be bigger then the screens together. In my case, I have a 1440x900 primary screen and at most a 1280x1024 secondary screen. So my virtual size would be minimum 2720x1024. This is with the screens side by side. If the screens is one above the other it would be 1440x1924.
The exact size of the monitor is handled by xrandr(arandr or lxrandr). So, there will be no dead zone in the width(side by side solution), if the real height is different on the screen there will be a dead zone in height.
Using arandr or lxrandr means that you manually have to set this up each time the computer is restarted. To automate this, you can use xrandr. First do a
    # xrandr

to find out where the screens are connected. Mine are LCD and CRT1. Then test with
    # xrandr --output CRT1 --right-of LCD
to see if you get a stretched desktop. If this works, just add the last line to your .xinitrc
    This solution gives you stretching.

This works, and I get separate resolutions on the monitors. I tried using radeonhd but then the resolution on teh second monitor goes to some crappy values(which I figure are calculated proportionally to the 1280x800 one).

  • Can I set up a second iTunes library if away from my first?

I started this post on MacBook Pro, but someone there thought I might get more specific answers here. He said 'yes', I could, by  holding 'alt/option' key while clicking to open iTunes, and selecting 'new library'. But he warned I might lose everything on the iPad. Anyone here have experence with this to know what does happen?
    Here is my original post:
I'm in France on a journey. I have an iPad with me, and want to download new books I buy off Amazon into my Kindle software on this iPad. When I tried to do this, I'm told it can't be done without having access to my iTunes library.
Unfortunately, my main iTunes library lives on an external hard drive back home in California. I loaded music onto an iPod so I wouldn't need it.
Is there a way I can set up a second iTunes library on this MacBook Pro I'm traveling with, which will allow me to download books without access to my main iTunes library?
Thanks so much for your help,
    Karen

All the stuff on my current iPad will be stripped, null and void?
Not having an iPad I can't say for certain although when I connect any other iDevice (iPhones & iPods) to another iTunes Library I get a message similar to "Your device is connected to another iTunes Library…" with more stating to the effect that it will be erased and the contents of the current (which in this case empty) Library will replace whetever is on your device. At this point you have the option to Continue or Cancel.
So yes, you might end up with an empty iPad which is why I suggest you be extremely careful in reading what's on-screen.
It's one of the big big failings in iTunes where I need to carry around a 65GB library just so I can manage an iPhone.

  • After upgrading to Mavericks MacBook hangs at "Setting Up Your Mac" screen

After upgrade install of Mavericks, and logging in successfully one time my MacBook (aluminum unibody late 2008) now hangs at the "Setting Up Your Mac" screen after logging in with password. I can restart the unit with the power button but same thing happens. I powered off the unit, removed the battery and held the power button down for 30 seconds, re-installed the battery and restarted the unit but same thing happens.

Hold the Power button to turn off your computer and turn it on again. Then, see if Mavericks can start up.
If not, hold Command and R keys while your computer is starting and reinstall Mac OS X

  • How to transfer the contents of a line of a table control to second screen?

    Hi,
I have a table control and I have entered some contents in one line of a table control .
When i click on this line and then click on the detail button on the screen , it should take me to another screen and whatever I have entered in the table control should be transferred to the second screen .
Please could anyone help me out with this .
    Regards,
    Sushanth H.S.

    Hi
U need to get the index of the line of table control by command GET CURSOR:
    PROCESS PAI.
    LOOP AT ITAB.
       MODULE GET_CURSOR.
       MODULE MODIFY_ITAB.
    ENDLOOP.
    MODULE USER_COMMAND.
Module to pick up the selected line:
    MODULE GET_CURSOR.
      GET CURSOR LINE VN_LINE.
    ENDMODULE.
Module to transfer the data from table control to internal table:
    MODULE MODIFY_ITAB.
      ITAB-FIELD1 = <FIELD OF TABLE CONTROL>.
      MODIFY ITAB INDEX <TABLE CONTROL>-CURRENT_LINE.
    ENDMODULE.
U should considere the variable line has the value of the index of the line of table control, so u need to calculate the number of the corresponding line of internal table:
    MODULE USER_COMMAND.
      CASE OK_CODE.
        WHEN 'DETAIL'.
    * Calculate the line of internal table:
           VN_LINE = <TABLE CONTROL>-TOP_LINE + VN_LINE - 1.
    * Read the data
           READ TABLE ITAB INDEX VN_LINE.
    * Transfer the data to the output structure of the new screen
           <STRUCTURE>-FIELD1 = ITAB-FIELD1.
    * Call the new screen
           SET SCREEN <NEW SCREEN>.
           LEAVE SCREEN.

  • Garbled mouse on second screen with ati

    Hello,
just finished a fresh install of arch on my desktop, it has a ati radeon 5700 and i would like to use 2 screens. After a while of tinkering and looking through the wiki and the aticonfig man page i managed to get both of my screens working with the command "aticonfig --initial=dual-head resolution=0,1280x1024 resolution=1,1024x786" or something very similar to that( sorry on laptop and cant remeber exact command). I could not get it to work until i manually set the resolutions. After that i installed dwm and everything started up fine and its usable however on the second screen my mouse becomes a big garbled square of pixels, it looks fine on whichever screen is set as 0 though.
thanks in advance for any help.

Well, I'm configuring everything today and making it all pretty, so I'll see if changing the pointer theme fixes it.
Thanks a bunch for the help.

  • Where to add DISPLAY=:0.1 to get second instance of Firefox to open on second screen

I have set things up using Firefox profiles so I can open a second instance of Firefox. I have even put a a launcher icon on the panel. However, I would like to have the second instance open on the second screen. I have found I can use the variable DISPLAY=:0.1 at the command prompt, but I would like to add the variable, or something that has the same effect to a file to make the launch on the second screen automatic.
Can somebody suggest the right code, and where to put it please?

    Hi clay1905,
Thank you for posting your question, there are a few old solutions to this however I am not sure if they work in the updated version you are using:
The general theme looks like if you run a bash file from the launch pad to open one application, then sleep, then launch the second instance in the second display this could be done.
*How to run your first bash [http://www.tldp.org/LDP/Bash-Beginners-Guide/html/sect_02_01.html]
*run script from desktop shortcut: [http://askubuntu.com/questions/299052/how-to-execute-sh-script-from-a-desktop-shortcut]
I hope that puts you in the right direction.

  • Monitoring a second screen

    Hi,
I was many hours looking for something very useful and, I think, simple: a software that monitors the second screen in a (small) window of the main screen, when working with multiple screens. It would be very nice to see what's happening in the second screen by presentations etc. when the projection is not visible for the lecturer. Is there any way/software to achieve this?
    Thank you,
    Alberto

You can just set your macbook to mirror on the second screen instead extending your desktop over both the screens. You would be able to see exactly what someone looking at the external monitor could.
There may be some resolution issues to deal with but im sure you could find a resolution that is suitable for both displays even if you only use this when you are doing presentations.

  • Cant open firefox on second screen on computer with two screens with two graphics cards.

I have a computer with two screens and two diffrent graphics card. One of them is onboard GC and another one is USB GC. I am running two instances of FF and it works fine with 3.6.20 version. But when I update to the latest version of FF either 5 or 6 this does not work. Even if i try to open one instance of FF on second screen on USB GC , I cant see anything> i have to move it to the main screen to see the FF window and will not work on the extended screen. I am using windows 7 pro 32 bit and the screen resolution is set to 1280x1024 on both the screens.
    Can you please help.
    Thanks.

    Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • Why can I only see my pictures on my second screen?

I can only see my pictures on the seconds screen.
on the main screen of my laptop all the pictures are grey. All the metadata is still there. The changes and the classifications are also still available.
But I can't see any picture. Not on the main screenn, not in the filmstrip and not in the navigator.
This worked without a problem for about two years till now.
The strangest part is that i can still see everuthing on the second screen.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I allready reinstalled the LR software again.

Flickr app on Apple TV is rudimentary, needs a lot of improvement such as being able to see all photos (scrolling through 500 at a time if memory is a problem), searching sets, seeing Collections. So I really don't use it except as a screen saver for the most recent photos. Until they improve the app, I display photos via an iPad or iPhone mirroring from the Flickr app, Flickr Studio, or Fickstackr. Far more convenient, too.
