Set up password for Thunderbird when It's never had one

I installed Thunderbird on Mac running Mavericks but didn't set up a password when I installed it. Can I set up a password now so that when I open Thunderbird it asks for one before it will open? please be gentle with me, I'm a silver surfer so need an idiot's guide :-)

Thanks, but to be really honest it seems a bit complicated to a silver surfer. I don't really want master passwords or anything just when I open Thunderbird I want it to ask for a password before it opens. Also there is no "options" under "tools" or any of the other drop downs in either Thunderbird or Firefox - certainly not on my Macbook running OSX 10.9.3 but I guess it's on the security tab in preferences. So what you are saying is that there is no way to just put a password on Thunderbird to allow it to open?

It is asking for your computer administrator account password to make system changes.  You "should" have an administrator account password.

  • Ipad is asking for passcode and i have never had one

i  updated to new operating system the other day, and when i went to use it safari was missing. i have now just turned on again and its asking for a passcode to enter but i have never used a passcode before, so i cant get in. i have synced the ipad, and tried restoring but it says a passcode is required but i dont have one. please help as i need to use my ipad. thanks

Unfortunately, if the iPad is insisting that you use a passcode, there is no way around it other than to restore the device using iTunes on a computer, or by erasing it in iCloud.com via Find My iPhone.
You could try resetting the iPad and cross your fingers and hope this is just a blip on the radar....hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

I am trying to set up a co-worker's email on her iPhone and I don't know what her password for Thunderbird is and neither does she. Can I get the password somehow, or what do you recommend?

There is no password to Thunderbird. The password you need is to the email account. Contact the email provider for password reset.

To prevent others from reading your mail, don't give them access to your account. If others need to use your computer for some reason, set up personal accounts, or a guest account, and switch to it before allowing them access. This is the simplest, and most effective, method.
Email message files can be read as plain text in TextEdit or any word processor.
To protect your email messages from being viewed by others while in your account, you would have to lock the folder, putting it into an encrypted disk image that required a password to be opened and mounted. You would have to double-click on the image and give your password to mount it before launching Mail then unmount it as soon as you're done. My guess is that you could replace the ~/Library/Mail folder with an alias pointing to the folder on the disk image.
It may work, but it seems like a lot of unnecessary hassle.

When the Mac was setup you had to create an administrative password.and account.  Yo have to sign into that account to install apps/plug-ins like Flash. To reset that password.

  • HT2518 I've migrated from PC to IMAC, but it has created new users. I can't access these user accounts even though I've set up passwords for them as administrator. Can you assist?

I have transferred files from PC to IMac using Migration assistant. This has automatically set-up new users on the IMac and I can't access these. As administrator, I have set-up passwords for these new users, but when i try to acces these new users usung those passwords, the screen shakes as if the passwords are incorrect. Any suggestions?

I can see these in my user groups, and I can change the passwords on both as often as I like. But when I then try to logon, the screen just shakes and nothing happens.
I don't do Windoze, so haven't been able to test migrating from a PC.
There have been a few similar posts here.   Are you trying to log on to the new user account(s) via Fast User Switching?  If so, apparently that doesn't work.   You need to turn that off (via System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Options. Remove the check from the Show fast user switching .... box.
Then log out of all accounts, restart, select the new account from the login screen and you should be prompted to set the password.
I'm not sure a screenshot will help (and to be honest I'm not sure how to do screenshots on the IMac - I've been a PC man for over a decade!).
In most places, Shift+Cmd+3 will print the entire screen; Shift+Cmd+4 will produce a "target" you can drag over a portion of the screen.
EDIT:  by "most places" I mean after you're logged-on, and OSX knows your preferences about how & where to put the screenshot.  So it won't work on the login screen itself.

  • HT5395 Is there a way to set a password for iMessage?

Is there a way to set a password for iMessage on computer instead of it logging in automatically? Other people use my computer and I do not want them to have access to my imessages.
    Thanks

    Hi,
It would be best if you set them up with their own Mac User account and changed your Login password.
You could use the Sign Out button each time you closed the app.
This would still show the Apple ID next time the app was started and if this is a common Apple ID  they could Sign in  again.
You could open Keychain Access and remove the Auth Token but this would also be recreated when they started Messages and re-signed in the iMessages account.
With the AIM, Jabber and Yahoo Accounts  it is possible not to enter the password when creating the account and Unticking the "Save this Password to the Keychain" each time you sign those accounts in.
Much less possible with the iMessages account.

  • Ad ons go to foxfire instead of thunderbird why and how do i fix it because it says for Thunderbird when i download them?

My Ad Ons are going to FoxFire instead of Thunderbird even though it says for Thunderbird when I add them. The Theme pictures don't always show up in the Ad Ons when I want to search for a new one. The only way I can see them is if I reload and I think maybe that puts them into FoxFire? I'm talking about the themes etc. to add to Thunderbird.

  • How can I set a password for firefox so that everyone have to enter the password before executing firefox

My younger sister executed my firefox just at this afternoon(she originally use IE), and she saw something that can't be seen. How can I set a password for firefox so that everyone have to enter the password before executing firefox?

Also see this for an English version of Profile Password:
    *Profile Password: http://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/profilepassword-en.html#PPF
It is an extension to protect the profile with a password, but being an extension that protection can easily be bypassed by starting Firefox in [[Safe mode]].<br />
So do not rely on it.<br />
If you want to protect content then you have to use methods supported by the OS like a separate user account with a password or an encrypted file system.

  • How can I set a password for my pictures on iPad Air ?

How can I set a password for my pictures on iPad Air ? if anyone have my iPad access mail or something I don't want anyone access my photos so how can I set it up.

You can't set a password for the Photos nor Mail apps, you can only set a passcode for your iPad as a whole (via Settings > Passcode).
There are third-party photo management apps such as Photo Manager Pro which you can copy your photos into from the Photos app (and then delete them from Photos), that app allows you (via its settings within the app) to set a password to access it.
For email you could access your email via a browser (and not have your password stored in the browser), or see if there are any email apps in your country's app store which have a password option

  • Set the password for zip file in unix

    Hi All,
I have used the below command to zip the file and it is working fine.
    cd /YYYY;zip -r ZZZZ.zip ZZZZ.TXT
While using the below command to set the password on zip file , I am getting error like "zip error: Invalid command arguments (encryption not supported)
    zip -P password -r ZZZZ.zip ZZZZ.TXT
Can you please help me how to set the password for zip file in UNIX.
    Thanks,

Do you use any characters in the password that might confuse the zip command? (like '-' or ';'?)
If I use the command in RHEL4:
    cd /tmp
    zip -P password -r tt.zip gconfd-oracle
    adding: gconfd-oracle/ (stored 0%)
    adding: gconfd-oracle/lock/ (stored 0%)
    adding: gconfd-oracle/lock/ior (deflated 67%)

  • For printer LaserJet Professional CM1410 any chance to set printing password for windows and MAC

    Dear All
for printer  LaserJet Professional CM1410 any chance to set printing password for windows and MAC?please help?

What Windows OS are you using?  Are you networked?
If you are networked, you have to setup your file and print sharing options in order to require password assess.  If you are just trying to control specific files from being printed, you can do that, too.
If you are just trying to control the amount of printing off of a single PC with a printer, you could setup different accounts for each user and limit their access.
Some of the commercial printers can have password options, but I do not find any password options for the CM 1410, other than what I provided earlier.
If I have been helpful, a Kudo is always appreciated.
