Set up web icons in iweb

Hi, you know how when you go to a website, and in the address bar on the left side of it, theres an icon, like yahoo is a red Y and apples is a black and white apple icon? Does anyone know how to customize one and use one for a website in iweb 08? Thanks.

Open the Sharing pane of System Preferences and turn on Web Sharing; this will produce an URL in the right side of the page. Supply that URL followed by favicon.ico as the final location.
If you are behind a router, this method may produce a favicon that isn't available from the Internet. If this happens, find the public URL for your website and replace the address you got from System Preferences with it.

I started setting up a web page with iWeb. Auto play box is checked, but music will not play when page is opened.

I started setting up a web page with IWeb.
Several proplems so far:
1) Auto Play box checked for music, but music does not start when page is opened.
2) Can't get Quicktime "start/stop" slide to start and finish a section within a long piece of music (classical for example). How does one work the slide bar to do this?

Yes the audio file plays on the iWeb page when I click the play button. I even made sure it played both without the “little boxes” that surround the icon (don’t know the technical name for those), and when I click the music icon without the little boxes.
I did note that the iTunes window that appears when I open the Inspector is not highlighted until I click the music icon and those little boxes appear. Then the Start/Stop, Auto Play, Loop, and Show Movie Controller are highlighted — and work properly.
One other thing. I see that the iWeb icon I am working from says “Domain copy.sites2.” Does that have a bearing on anything?

Web Gallery in iWeb Doesn't Behave Like Standalone Gallery

From iPhoto I published a web gallery of four albums. When you go to the web gallery the four albums appear. The key photo of each album is displayed. If you move your cursor you can skim.
If I add a page in iWeb and then select Insert Web Gallery and add the galleries each album starts a mini slide show. There is a small black box that flickers on each album icon. When you go to the web album page each web gallery album icon is playing the slideshow. Which is not consistant the way the standalone web gallery works.

When working in iWeb this motion eats up CPU. I don't remember iWeb doing this a while ago. Is this due to 10.4.11?

That seems to be the way it is. Albums added to an Album page are static except for skimming and the iPhoto galleries added via the Web Widget feature are dymanic. It appears to be determined by what application creates the entity, iPhoto for the web gallery and iWeb for the album.
This site has both types side by side and show the difference that you're referring to.

Dynamic list of .Mac Web Gallery into iWeb

Hi guys,
I would like to know we can incorporate a dynamic list of all my .mac web galleries so that it appears in iWeb.
For example, in my .mac gallery, I have these four galleries:-
1. Picnic shots
2. Wedding shots
3. Pet shots
4. Zoo shots
I want this entire list to be shown in iWeb, and it should be dynamic in such if I change the title of the gallery, it changes in iWeb as well. Or when I modify and add new galleries in my .mac , it should be reflected in my iWeb.
I just want the list to appear, not the gallery widget. Thanks!!

Assuming it's possible to do at all outside of Apple, I suspect that it would require some sophisticated programming on the server where your site is hosted. If you are hosted on .Mac, I doubt such programming is possible. However, if you are hosted on a non-.Mac server, perhaps someone here can suggest an approach.
Possibly Apple will provide that feature in a future version of iWeb and you can request it via this feedback form:
...in +Feedback Type+ choose +Enhancement Request+.
Meanwhile, you've probably guessed already that the non-dynamic solution is to set up text hyperlinks in iWeb to your Galleries and update those links manually as necessary.

Change WEBLOC ICONS to show Web ICONS visited

On the last update for Yosemite, all my web icons which I dragged from my address bar to desktop, now show the name WEBLOC instead of the web address Icon shown as before. My wifes new apple does the same thing. How can we get this stopped and when we drag an address from
the address bar to desktop, it will show the web icon visiting and saving to desktop. Would like it to do it automaticaly ,like it did before this update??

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Full Screen mode with all toolbars hidden.
* Press F11 to toggle full screen mode (Firefox/File > Full Screen)
If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key, that should make the menu bar appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
* If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout" (Linux, Windows)
* If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar
* If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up.

Pressing the Web Icon in Applications resets my TX

I've been successfully accessing Wi-Fi for a couple of days, and now, when I press the Web icon to get to mail bookmarks, the unit goes black and resets itself. Prior to the first time this happened, I had been opening e-mail and forwarding some of them to other addresses. I am assuming that I will have to do a hard reset and reload everything (when I get home - I am currently on vacation - which is the reason for the heavy mail viewing) - but, hopefully, someone has a remedy. Hi, 2 questions:
1) When you checked your emails and were forwarding those emails were you doing this by going to your email website or doing this through VersaMail or some other email application ?
2) Are you getting resets at any other times and with any other applications, not just when you launch an app ?
When you try to launch any application and your Palm resets it generally means either:
• The application is not compatible with your Palm. Obviously, Blazer (Web) is compatible
or
• Your Prefs database is corrupt
or
• On NVFS Palms only (like the TX) the dbCache is too full and needs to be cleared
Do you use a backup to card application like NVBackup @

If yes then hopefully you have a backup that was made when Blazer (Web) was working ok, try a 'Restore' of that backup. This will restore a Prefs database that is not corrupt.
It is always best to do a Soft Reset before using Blazer especially when you are going to be doing a lot of work because on NVFS Palms (like the TX) the dbCache fills up and needs to be cleared.
But then, I guess you have already tried pressing the Web icon again after your TX reset itself so that has already been tried
You could also try a Blazer Spring Clean using a FileManager like FileZ @

IE can't be uninstalled. It's part of the operating system and cannot be removed. You can hide the icon but the engine is still on the machine and still must be updated.

Of the two browsers, my personal preference is Chrome over Firefox. Firefox's add in model is too prone to developer insecurity.

Hi,
As you said you could do it at the report level and also at the universe level.
One more way is to create the filters in the universe levele and add them in thequery filter.
Ex: in the filter you need to write :
Column1 is null and and column 2 is not null etc.

The webpage icons database may be corrupted as a result of the upgrade.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Safari/WebpageIcons.db
Click Go then move the WebpageIcons.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari.
It may take up to a day for your webpage icons to re populate.

First do the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Next, in Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.

You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder. So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

Web Gallery vs. iWeb?

I'm not sure I understand the difference between the Web Gallery and iWeb. You can add galleries on both?
How do you remove a gallery from the Web Gallery after you install it? I was trying to install multiple galleries by doing the shift click then figured out iPhoto was combining all the galleries into one. I aborted and it said it was deleting it off the WG. It did not. The pics it did upload are there and I can't figure out how to delete.

Web Galleries from iPhoto differ from iWeb photo galleries in that the iPhoto galleries are run from software on Apple's servers (you only upload four versions of each photo and the server side software does the rest. With an iWeb photo gallery you have design control over how that gallery will look, comments under the thumbnails and that gallery may be part of a greater site with other pages. Then the photos and other supporting files are uploaded to be combined into an HTML based web page. The iPhoto gallery is java driven I believe.
All iPhoto galleries are part of one gallery. To delete an iPhoto gallery you delete the web gallery in the iPhoto library. The photos will be deleted from the iDisk and no longer show in your gallery.
The iPhoto one is much easier and quicker to create but can only be the one style. With the iWeb variety you can change the background, add music to the site. The two slideshows are different also.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Web Gallery and iWeb

There is a template in iWeb for albums, but not one for iPhoto Web Galleries. You can use the insert .mac web gallery option to get a web gallery onto a page, but is there a way to use the cool album template instead?
It seems so odd that there isn't better integration between Web Galleries and iWeb templates.

Yeah, I'm noticing this, too. Seems a bit of crap work, if you ask me.
I'm kind of unimpressed with the new iWeb. A few "widgets" isn't really all that neat, and I'm shocked they didn't include some sort of iphone theme (like a theme best viewed on an iphone.)
But this gallery thing is the most irritating.

Questions about web gallery in iWeb - advise please

I have succesfully republished my old iWeb with iWeb 08, but would like to have some advice before I experiment further. The iWeb Help says I can add a web gallery to iWeb using either "insert>web gallery", or a Web Widget. Can anyone explain the difference to me?
My one Web Gallery has the neat new "carousel" effect and the other properties of this new function. Will any new photo albums that I publish directly from iWeb also have these properties, or are they unique to "web gallery"? The photo albums that I have republished with the new iWeb have the "download" and "subscribe" functions, but not the "carousel" and other niceties of Web Gallery. Thank you.

There are two completely separate types of gallery, one being the .Mac web gallery and the other being the ones that you make in iWeb.
Where iWeb mentions the "insert" or "Web Widget" it just means there two ways of doing the same thing. If you use the 'Insert' menu or the 'Web Widget' button you are able to choose one of your web galleries and insert an animated thumbnail which cycles through previews of your photos in that particular album. A visitor to your page is able to click on it to visit the specific album.
So there you have it, you can either build photo albums in iWeb without some of the fancy Web Gallery features or you can use the .Mac Web Gallery. The iWeb albums will be tightly integrated with iWeb and your pages but you can still integrate the .Mac Web Gallery to a certain degree by using the 'Insert' or 'Web Widget' options.
I personally plan to use both iWeb Albums and .Mac Web Gallery as they both have their merits for different projects I'm working on.
