Set variable speed?

Help!
I am having trouble plotting variable speed in Final Cut Pro.
I go to 'time map' and look at setting keyframes to control speed but it seems to be really imprecise and random. There doesn't seem to be a way to set precise values eg. setting the clip to ramp from 0% to 400% or down from 100% to 50%. Or even set 1000% to 3000%.
And when i plot keyframes in 'time map' it doesn't seem able to tell what the speed value is that's being set.
Any ideas?

Chances are you'll need to export out the sections of a clip that you want to remap.
FCP will look at the entire clip to extrapolate the remapping.
IOW, if you're trying to remap a :30sec section of a 20 minute clip, FCP will apply it's remapping to the entire 20 minutes.
So just export out your :30 (with a bit of handles for good measure), bring it back in and remap that.
Post back if it doesn't fix it for ya.

Can't select "Variable Speed" for Still Image Motion

I am using FCP 5.1 to add motion to still images. I've placed my still images on the timeline and added the appropriate keyframes in the Motion tab of the Viewer to Scale, Rotate, and move the stills on screen to my liking. But the speed is locked to "Constant," and I want to change that.
Specifically, am rolling a still image on-screen, freezing it in the middle of the screen a few seconds, and then rolling it off-screen. Doing this is easy: I just add a keyframe and type in the off-screen coordinates, then add another keyframe and type in coordinates somewhere on screen. But I want to vary the speed that the image rolls on-screen, so it moves on-screen quickly but then gradually slows down until it finally stops (freezes) in the middle of the screen.
Unfortunately, the "Setting" popup menu under "Time Remap" in the Motion tab of the viewer is grayed out and locked to "Constant Speed" (and yes, my still image clip is indeed selected and being displayed in the view). I cannot figure out how to unlock that popup so I can select variable speed.
I can choose Variable or Constant speed just fine for any imported "video" clips -- only still images are locked to Constant for some reason. Is this just a feature limitation of FCP 5? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Yes, it was in the manual, which by the way is quite large. And I didn't say how long it took me to spot that in the manual either -- a long time. I didn't spot it the first time I had read through that section (yes, I had read it before). And the fact is, you didn't know it either, otherwise you may have cared to point it out (for not only myself, but for others reading this forum too).
I participate in numerous other forums on other sites. Many times, people ask questions that are very simplistic to me -- I know the answers and I know those people putting forth the questions could easily have looked up the answer. Nevertheless, I take time to be helpful to others. For truly, some day I may be in their shoes, lacking time to read every part of every manual out there.
I am therefore thankful to those who likewise respond in a tactful manner to my queries, with the productive aim of helping others rather than condemning them. Thank you, David Harbsmeier, for being consistently positive and very helpful in this forum!

Set variable samples per chanel from counter

Hi, all. I have to set variable samples per chanel for sample clock. I want to take that samples from counter input with different number of edges for every second (different speed of metal plate). What can i do for that task? Is there a god example for this problem?

Hi, GerdW. Thanks for reply. I want Sample Rate and Samples per Chanel to come from couter. CI is a metal plate with 52 tooth. The speed of metal plate is 500 cycles/min but it is not constant ( may be 490-520). For example rate of cycles is 500/60=8.33 cycles/sec. Rate of edges (tooth) is 8.33*52=433 edges/sec, but when speed goes over or under 500 the rate is different. How to put that variable samples in sample clock on AI?
P.S. Matlab script is to calculate max samples per chanel for mean function in while loop. In the picture control "Speed cycles/min" is that 500 cycles/min speed. I have to put in that control the variable rate of edges. Other solution is to set 1 sample per edge, but i have problem here to .

Continuing Variable Speed Probs

This is becoming major.
I have trashed prefs, re-installed FCE but I am still having the problem of clips changing speed from what I set (usually 50%) to some increibly sped up setting labelled "variable" that often squeezes the entire raw capture into the clip length
This usually happens in this instance: Select a clip, set a speed change. Copy that clip and stack it on top to apply effects like colorkey, etc. Render. Playback. Everything hunky dory. Go on with the project ... go back, and that top clip now has a new speed setting.
This has also happened with applying speed values of more than 100%. Occasionally happens to an "unstacked" clip but more often if the clip is stacked, be it a copy or not.
I dont remember this happening much in the past but now it is popping up frequently. I keep having to go back and check all my speed changed clips to make sure that are "safe". I use this effect a lot, so it is a major pain
It has been suggested to me that this is some kind of glitch that comes up in FCP (I am running FCE HD) and the only thing you can do is work around it be exporting the speed changed clip as a QT and bringing it back in ... wow, what a pain
I do this for a living and if I cant fix this prob soon, I may have to switch apps soon ... tho I would rather not.
Sorry, I've posted this prob before but it really is serious, so any suggestions would be most helpful

If you are referring to the original captures, I capture entire DV tapes at a time, so yes, they are longer than 10 minutes
If you are referring to the editied clips to which the speed is applied, they are short, usually no more than 20 or 30 secs
I'm wondering is this is the root of the prob; I've only started capturing whole tapes in the last year. That would make some sense, cuz sometimes what I see is an entire tape content jammed into the 20 sec clip
Guess I'll try capturing in smaller chunks to see if that makes a difference. Sort of inconvenient for me but if it works ....

Exporting variable speed slo mo to Motion for optical flow, how?

I have FCP 7 and Motion 4. I am new to using Motion. I want to either export a variable speed clip from FCP to Motion and add the optical flow feature, or build a variable speed change in Motion, but I can't figure out how to do either!
The 20 second clip is in reverse-slow-mo, and progressively gets slower (from -38% to -4%) as set in FCP using keyframes. When I "send" the clip & it opens in Motion, the in-out points aren't recognized, (the whole unedited clip shows up) and when I set the timing to "variable" in the inspector, (under "timing", for time remap) the clip disappears in the timeline altogether.
I've also tried to create a QT of the clip as 100% but in reverse (just to have less to build in Motion) but I cannot figure out how on earth to use the graph in Motion (under time remap, variable speed) to create a variable speed change to progressively slow down. This is the key issue for me-- how to create variable speed change in Motion??
I tried one other thing in Motion, the "add behavior", and added "Speed Change", couldn't figure out this method either-- how to make clip progressively slow down, and also how to apply the optical flow to that speed change (seems optical flow only works with time remap method?) Any help would be greatly appreciate.

Although it does occur, the media isn't ALWAYS mangled... did you try workflow 1 above?
As far as I can tell from your description, baking the speed change in before sending to Motion is not going to work as the clip will already be retimed.
I agree, changing versions mid project is a bad idea. When faced with this recently, I bought a $50 500gb hard drive, installed Leopard and the new version of Final Cut Studio onto it, booted into that drive, opened up a COPY of my project in the FCP7 and did what I needed.
I found no issues, so just continued in FCP7. However, if I did find issues, I would have done only what I needed the new version for, then rebooted back into the drive with FCP6, opened my original project, then imported the results.

Exporting variable speed shots looks terrible

I have a project shot with a Canon 7D. Made all the shots AppleProRes 422 and edited that.
When exporting (Cureent settings)2-3 shots that I use variable speed look like ****. They seem to become interlaced and different fields appear. There is no problem with other shots that are speeded up but without any smoothing at beginning or end.
whats even more puzzling is that there are some shots that I used variable speed that look just fine, no problem at all!
how can I address an issue of that sort?

The usual answer is to render them externally, export them, reimport them into the timeline.
When you export from the timeline, new media is created, sometimes referencing the original files, not the rendered media from your timeline. Guessing there is something odd about those shots, a change of settings on your Canon or during the transcode to to PR422, regardless of how unlikely that may seem to you.
Try opening a new, empty sequence. Make sure the sequence is set properly. Go back to your problem sequence, select all, copy, ad paste into the new empty timeline. Render.
Suggest you take one of these shots and experiment with it all by itself. Try using Motion's speed controls. Render the movie, import that back into FCP.

Using Spry Data Set Variable in Recordset

I have a page that contains a spry data set and a recordset. The recordset uses one of the variables from the spry data set to filter its results. how do I apply the spry data set variable to the recordset?

Is there anyway to grab the spry data set variable direct and apply it to your recordset filter?
The SpryDataSet variable can only be used on the clientside (JavaScript) so you will have to get your recordset using JS.
A page refresh can be set in motion if you add {useCache: false, loadInterval: 500} to your dataset to then set an observer to your dataset to invoke the page refreash function.

Assigment of absolute value like this is working good:

Can I set the variable using logical SQL? Something like:

Hi,
You can create a session variable or dynamic variable in the RPD and try using it in here at the Advanced Tab prefix.
But still check yourself if you need multiple values returning in the SQL statement.

Just a little claritification, you need to add the value to the variable "[string]$ou", and also change the language in the variable "$emailbody" in the function "Get-ADUserPasswordExpirationDate".

ODI-SET VARIABLE IN PACKAGE

I am using odi11g.
i set variable "STARTTIME" To sysdate .
And "END_DATE" to a default value-- '20-JUNE-1981'.
Now in package i dropped the variable "end_date",and put the TYPE to "SET VARIABLE" and the value as below:
#VARIABLES_STARTTIME.[ The projects name is VARIABLES]
But the value of "end-date" isnt getting reset to STARTTIME.
should there be a different syntax.

Refresing the variable is working thanks.BUT i was trying to use the variable in a loop.
Where when the package is run fo rthe 1'st time the variable 'LAST_UPDATE' value should be '20-JUNE-1981' and then it should get set to the value present in 'STARTTIME" for the next time the package is run.
So, in this case, i need to set the value of the variable in the package itself.
#VARIABLES.STARTTIME isnt getting set.

At first a remark u2013 Iu2019ve read a lot of threads saying that passing values to a query can be done by using VBA code only. Iu2019ve tested it but Iu2019m not sufficient with the new BEX 7.0 API and therefore I use a mixture of BEX 7.0 funtionality and VBA. I create a BEX 7.0 design item button passing the values to a query u2013 I hide this button somewhere on the sheet or on a hidden sheet and I then raise the event to click the button from VBA code. Works fine and the maintenance is easier if something changes in the API in the future again.
How to start:
Switch to design mode in BEX Analyzer:

1.Setting variables in cfc

2. Calling cfc:
In cfinvoke you call a variable using returnvariable="". Is
it true that the variable doesn´t have to have the same name
as in the method that the cfinvoke tag is calling? What does return
variable call? How do I define what it calls?

In any cffunction, inside or outside a cfc, if you are going
to return a value, you use the cfreturn tag. You can return
constants like true, 1, "Dan is so smart", or variables. What you
return has to be consistent with the returntype attribute of your
cffunction tag.
When you invoke a variable, you can use any name you want as
the return variable. In theory, you don't even know any variable
names inside the function. The return variable does not call
anything. It accepts what the function returns.
It is the cfinvoke tag that calls something. You control what
it calls with it's attributes.
