Set vlc as default for everything

I would like to use the vlc player as the default player for everything but can't seem to get it set right. VLC plays the windows media files fine but quicktime still wants to play some files. How do i make vlc the default player for everything?

One way would be to change each media type individually. Right click on an example of a media type you want to always open in VLC and choose Get Info. In the Open with pane of Get Info choose VLC. Then Press the Change all... button. In the Dialog Window that appears press the Continue button. Now VLC will be the default app for opening that media type.

Setting Sound preference defaults for managed accounts

Hi, I just added a bluetooth speaker to my MAc Mini, and I had no problem setting it as default speaker for my administrator account. However the setting is not automaticatically transferred to the managed accounts, and them beeing managed can not acces the preferences. Is there a simple way of doing this, or should I go to the trouble of setting each account as administrator, log as the other user, change the preference and then change it back as managed account?

Rebooting again resolved the problem. Though I rebooted differently than I generally reboot. I left the audio interface powered-up during boot. Generally, I only power-up the interface (USB2) when needing audio. It's never been a problem. I hope that wasn't the solution to this problem.

Set indent as default for all documents

Is there a way to set my own indentations for paragraphs, as a default for any new document I create?

You will need to make a custom template with your own settings.
The default text style is Body so set that the way you like it in the template.

Having difficulty setting MplayerX as default for ALL .avi/.mp4/etc files.

When I open a file with "Open With" option, selecting "Other", then selecting MplayerX and at the bottom clicking "Always Open With" - it works great for that one file. The rest automatically open with Quicktime. How do I make my MplayerX my default for all the video files?

My system goes automatically to Entourage when I reply with an email on a website. I would like it to go to Mail. Where do I set it as the default email program I am using? Thx!

It is a little counter-intuitive, but you go to the Apple MAIL program, select preferences under the MAIL menu item. Click on the "GENERAL" icon at the upper left and the first entry allows you to select the email progam you Mac uses as a default. Just change this from Entourage to Mail and you will be sent to mail for all MAIL TO web page entries.

Annoying behavior - PSE6 sets itself as default for edited files

Greetings. I'm running PSE6 on a Mac. When I edit a file, PSE sets itself as the default program for that file. For example, if I edit and save a jpg, the next time I double-click on that jpg it will open in PSE instead of my default graphics viewer. That's annoying and time-consuming. Is there any way I can configure PSE to stop doing that? Thanks!

Please excuse me, that didn't come out the way I meant it. I wanted to say that:
1) I double-click a jpg and it opens with Xee (or whatever).
2) I edit the file in PSE and do "Save as".
3) When I double-click on the new jpg, it opens with PSE. Other jpgs continue to open in Xee.
So I can't see what Finder has to do with it. When PSE saved the file, it made itself the default program for that file, irrespective of the default program for that type of file.

Why is the Expired Setting on by Default for our Users?

Our agency has Windows 7 with Outlook 2010. We use Exchange Server 2010 - it is administered for us by our Montana Department of Administration.
We have our own domain in Montana State Government which is separate from all others as we are a very large agency
Our customers starting noticing that they were seeing many expired emails that were sent to them and that they sent. They never turned on this feature in the individual or for all their emails.
Was there an update from Microsoft that turned this on by default? If so, is it in the enterprise policy for Office 2010 Professional somewhere that you can turn this off by default?
People are getting upset about this just "turning" on and want it off and we have over 2200 employees and need to have a solution that doesn't involve showing all 2200+ folks how to do it manually.

According to your description, you want to delete the old emails for all your users. If I misunderstand your meaning, please feel free to let me know.
If yes, I recommend you create a retention policy for all your users.
And here are the steps you can refer to :
1. Create retention policy tag:
New-RetentionPolicyTag -Name "name" -RetentionAction MoveToDeletedItems -AgeLimitForRetention 90 -Type all -Comment "comment"
2. Create a Retention Policy to include the tag
New-RetentionPolicy -Name "policy name" -RetentionPolicytagLinks "tag name”
3. Apply the Retention Policy to all the mailboxes:
Get-Mailbox | Set-mailbox -RetentionPolicy "policy name"

Ever since I downloaded the itunes software it is now my default for everything on my computer. how do I change that?

When I installed iTunes on my computer, it is now the default program for all my shortcut icons and web pages. How do I change that?

Whilst upgrading to V 7 of RoboForm - this means having to pay for Upgrade. This is because despite an assurance that when I paid the orginal fee - with a Lifetime of future updates would be free - they i.e. Roboform lied! You now have to pay to upgrade.
However the problem is not with Roboform but Firefox - I used to think it was great but now it is rubbish! Upgraded to V6 - All my previous Addons disabled & I can't get RoboForm toolbar re-installed. So I will start using IE from now on - it is really pathetic!!

How do you set volume default so that it applies to all apps?
When I go to YouTube I have to always adjust the volume.

How to set video size default for exporting?

Hi,
I use quicktime conversion to export video out of FCP. My question is how to set a default video size. Under the options I can change the video size to NTSC 720:480 4:3 (and other choices). How do I set that as the default? Everytime I close out of FCP, the setting revert back to compressor native, which is what I dont want.

You can't. Use Compressor and build a droplet to the exact specification you want, especially if you're going to be doing that format often.

How do I set gmail as default for mailto links in Firefox 7?

When I go to tools>options>applications>mailto , it does not give gmail (or much else) in the pulldown menu.

It is indeed strange, because it used to work fine in previous versions of Firefox (or perhaps something external from Firefox changed...)

Re-set Mail as default for Safari

Recently I discovered that Google Mail has become linked to Safari. When I click on the Share button, only Google Mail opens. I don't know how it changed, but how do I change it back so that Mail opens when I want to share a webpage?
