Set .XSD as datasource for a Crystal Report

Post Author: mauricemertens
CA Forum: General
Hi all,
I want to set the datasource of a report to a .XSD file on disk.
First I declare the report variable:CRAXDDRT.Report mcrepReport;
Then I have the following method on the report.Database to add a table:mcrepReport.Database.Tables.Add(string pLocation, object pSubLocation, object pConnectInfo, object tableType, object pDllName, object pServerName, object pServerType, object pDatabaseName, object UserID, object pPassword);
What values do I have to use to add the .XSD file (which contains a datatable and datacolumns) to the report as database fields to use?Thx

hi Ludek,
i want to provide additional information about the relations between the "tables" i provide. so that CR could be able to link these tables automaticly during the report creation. and i am looking for a possibility to define the primary- and foreignkey in the xsd.
what du you mean with "System.Data"? it seems to me you speak about .NET? i don't deal with .NET.
hi Bhushan,
your suggestion could help me by other problems i have. thank you.

  • Trying to programmatically set the data-source for a Crystal reports report.

    I've got the following existing procedure that I need to add to in order to programmatically set the data-source (server, database, username, and password) for a Crystal reports report.
     I added the connectionInfo parts, but can’t figure out how to attach this to the existing
    this._report object.
    This is currently getting the connection data from the report file, but I now need to populate this connection data from a 'config.xml' text file.
    Am I trying to do this all wrong?

  • How to set printersettings for the crystal report viewer in SAP BI dynamically

    Hello
    I have set the URL method for my crystal report and with parameter passing as shown below, it was displaying the crystal report viewer by connecting to the SAP BI 4.0 server with this method.
    http://cr:port/businessobjects/enterprise115/desktoplaunch/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?sDocName=CRLabelParam&sType=rpt&lsSnPrinted=0&lsSsTestProjectNr=1
    This URL will be called from Web application by different users, i would like to set the printer settings differently for different users for this crystal report viewer how shall i need to set the printer options?
    shall i need to set the printer settings programatically for each user. Please advise me how do i need to proceed.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Rajeswari.

    There are no BI / CR APIs that would do this for you. The way I see it, you'll have to have your own print button and populate it with the correct printer information for each user as they request the report. Of course, alternatively, use the viewer printer button and get the users to choose the correct printer.

  • Changing the datasource of a Crystal Report to a Oracle DB using TNS

    I have a problem trying to change the datasource of a crystal report. In the new connection I want to connect to a Oracle DB using TNS.
    Without TNS it's finally working flawlessly with the following code:
         private static void switch_tables(DatabaseController databaseController) throws ReportSDKException {
              // Declare the new connection properties that report's datasource will be switched to.
              final String DBUSERNAME = "user";
              final String DBPASSWORD = "secret";
              final String SERVERNAME = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@1.1.1.1:mysid";
              final String URI = "!oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver!jdbc:oracle:thin:{userid}/{password}@1.1.1.1:mysid";
              final String DATABASE_NAME = "mysid";
              final String DATABASE_DLL = "crdb_jdbc.dll";
              final String SCHEMA_NAME = "SCHEMA.";
              // Obtain collection of tables from this database controller.
              Tables tables = databaseController.getDatabase().getTables();
              // Set the datasource for all main report tables.
              for (int i = 0; i < tables.size(); i++) {
                   ITable table = tables.getTable(i);
                   // Keep existing name and alias.
                   table.setName(table.getName());
                   table.setAlias(table.getAlias());
                   // Change properties that are different from the original datasource.
                   table.setQualifiedName(SCHEMA_NAME + table.getName());
                   // Change connection information properties.
                   IConnectionInfo connectionInfo = table.getConnectionInfo();
                   // Set new table connection property attributes.
                   PropertyBag propertyBag = new PropertyBag();
                   propertyBag.put("Trusted_Connection", "false");
                   propertyBag.put("Server Name", SERVERNAME); //Optional property.
                   propertyBag.put("Connection String", URI);
                   propertyBag.put("Database Name", DATABASE_NAME);
                   propertyBag.put("Server Type", "JDBC (JNDI)");
                   propertyBag.put("URI", URI);
                   propertyBag.put("Use JDBC", "true");
                   propertyBag.put("Database DLL", DATABASE_DLL);
                   connectionInfo.setAttributes(propertyBag);
                   // Set database username and password.
                   // NOTE: Even if these the username and password properties don't change when switching databases, the
                   // database password is not saved in the report and must be set at runtime if the database is secured.
                   connectionInfo.setUserName(DBUSERNAME);
                   connectionInfo.setPassword(DBPASSWORD);
                   connectionInfo.setKind(ConnectionInfoKind.SQL);
                   table.setConnectionInfo(connectionInfo);
                   // Update old table in the report with the new table.
                   databaseController.setTableLocation(table, tables.getTable(i));
    I just call this method with the DatabaseController from a ReportClientDocument instance.
    How do I need to change the connectionInfo to do the connection using TNS?

    Please re-post if this is still an issue but first update to CR4E 2 and retest

  • One parameter for multiple Crystal reports in Publication

    Does anyone know if it is possible to enter one identical parameter for multiple Crystal reports in publication when scheduling? BOE 3.1 SP3 Windows, Java.
    To elaborate I am creating publication with multiple reports, each report has one parameter and this parameter is identical in every report in publication. So instead of entering this parameter many times I would like to enter once.
    If yes point me in the right direction to get the how to or post the steps.

    Daniel,
    Thank you so much for your answer. It was very helpful. In the end, it didn't work but it helped me figure out what was happening. I use a different form for the reports and I had it coded in the form which report to use. I created a second form for the second crystal and then I used an if statement to choose the form and it worked like a charm.
    Thanks so much again!

  • How to get the list of parameter and set them using RESTFul WS for a Crystal Report

    Hi All,
    I am able to schedule a Crystal report using following POST Restful call - http://localhost:6405/biprws/infostore/4738/scheduleForms/now and with a request xml body. But report is failing because I am not passing the parameter.
    But I need pass parameters/prompts to the Crystal report to execute successfully.
    What is the request XML to pass the parameter  for the report?
    I was able to do this for WEBI reports but I am not able to find any way to do this for Crystal reports?
    Any help on this matter is really appreciated.

  • Automating a report for non-Crystal Reports users

    Post Author: dmdouglas
    CA Forum: Formula
    I using version 8.5. Several people I generate a specific report for would like to be able to run it themselves rather than ask me to run it for them. As they are not Crystal Report users, is there a command that will ask the user to input information that will be used to generate a report for a specific month when they run the report, rather than having to go into the select criteria to put in the date they want? For example, if they wanted a report for March, they would just have to answer a prompt like "What month?" and the program would put their response in a variable to calculate the period desired for the report.

    Post Author: V361
    CA Forum: Formula
    Not sure for 8.5, but in later release's you add a parameter, the parameter does the prompting "Sort of", then you set the select statement to use the parameter. Parameters will have ? as part of the field name.   ie...
    = { ?Date_Parameter}

  • Trying to change the data source for a Crystal Report.

    <p>The method below represents my best attempt to programatically change the data source of a Crystal Report. The goal is to have a routine that will update the data source for reports after they have been distributed to production servers. <p>Justin,</p>
    <p>
    Thank you for the reply. Time constraints have not allowed me to post back to this tread
    till now. I will try your suggestion. My assumption is that <i>Save the report back to the
    info store</i> refers to <span class="code">IInfoStore.commit(IInfoObjects)</span>.
    </p>
    <p>
    I'm afraid that I do not understand why I don't want to change the report client document,
    or why <i>successfully exporting the report with the new login/password</i> is not what I
    want to do. Any explanation on that statement would be appreciated.
    </p>
    <p>
    I did find a way to accomplish my goal. It involved adding the SSOKEY property to the
    logon property bag. Below you'll see my revised code which modifies the report logon and
    server. I have no idea what
    this does, and SAP support has not been able to tell me why it works. However, what I
    discovered is that if I changed the report option, <b>Database Configuration -> When
    viewing report:</b>, in the CMS to <span class="bi">Use same database logon as when report
    is run</span> from <span class="bi">Prompt the user for database logon</span>, then the
    SSOKEY property had been added to the logon property bag having an empty string as its
    value. This allowed me to successfullyupdate and save the modified logon back to the CMS.
    </p>
    <p>
    So I took a chance and added code to always add the SSOKEY property with an empty string
    as its value, and I could then successfully modify and save the report's logon info
    and server. Again, I don't know what this means, but it has worked so far. If anyone has
    some insight or comments, either are welcome. Thank you in advance.

  • Buffer too small for string - Crystal Report for Vs2010

    Hello,
        I have recently upgrade my VS2010 project to Crystal Report for Visual Studion 2010.
        I have some reports that contains more than 512 characters in the Report Comments section.
        When I try to do a RptDoc.SaveAs(vPath, false) the following error is raised:
    Buffer too small for string or missing null byte.
          at CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ClientDoc.ReportClientDocumentClass.SaveAs in :line 0
          at CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportClientDocumentWrapper.SaveAs in :line 0
          at CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument.SaveAs in :line 0
        This line SaveAs was working has expected with Crystal Report 2008. Any idea on why it is not working anymore.
    Thank you.
    Charles

    Hello Don,
        I have start a little project to retest the behavior.
       I have create a new report in Crystal Report 2008 just by clicking New, Finish and Save.
       In a new Windows Application in Vs2010 ,I have added the following Crystal Report Reference.
        CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine, Version=13.0.2000.0
       CrystalDecisions.Shared, Version=13.0.2000.0
    I have then try the following code and found out the limit of ReportComment is 511 but in the Crystal Report 2008 designer and runtime the limit did not apply.
    Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
          Dim objRpt As New CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument()
          Dim i As Integer = 0
          Try
             objRpt.Load("c:\temp\empty.rpt", CrystalDecisions.Shared.OpenReportMethod.OpenReportByTempCopy)
             Do
                i += 1
                objRpt.SummaryInfo.ReportComments = New String("X", i)
             Loop
             objRpt.SaveAs("c:\temp\dfh_save.rpt", False)
          Catch ex As Exception
             MsgBox("i: " & i)
             MsgBox(ex.Message)

  • Support for older Crystal Reports .rpt files in BOE XI 3.1

    Does anyone know how far back you can go with Crystal Reports objects in BOE XI 3.1? In other words, what's the oldest version of Crystal .rpts that are supported in BOE XI 3.1? Can you run Crystal Reports 9 .rpt files? I'm trying to keep from having to update around 4-5 thousand older .rpts files for an upgrade to BOE XI 3.1.
    If we have to do a mass upgrade to CR 2008, what's the best way to do that?
    Edited by: Michael Garrett on Aug 23, 2011 4:46 PM

    Hi,
    from an upgrade perspective you can upgrade from CE9 to XI 3.1. Check
    https://websmp105.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700001646952008E/xi3-1_bip_upgrade_en.pdf
    (S-User needed)
    Do you have a running CE9 installation? If yes i would recommend upgrading this to XI 3.1 as described in the Guide. Or have you these "4-5 thousand" CR9 documents local on a file location?

  • Help required for our Crystal Reports billing reports

    Hi there, excuse me if this is the wrong location to make this post, just registered today and in need of help. We employee an in house developer and use Crystal Reports 2008, Service Pack 3 and have a couple of issues using Crystal Reports effecting the bills we email out to our clients and hoping someone can advise or point us in the direction of a partner who is an expert in this area.
    Issues are:
    We use a background colour for each section of our customers bill. When a section rolls over on to another page i.e. multiple sections we cant get the background colour grow to the bottom of the page. For example the customer sees the background colour stop possibly 1/2 way down the page.
    Intermittently about 30% of the time where the customer has more than 2 pages we get a blank page inserted with nothing but has our logo in the same position.
    Displaying $ figures using the default currency format on to the bill shows negative figures with the $ in front of the - i.e. $-2.81 instead of -$2.81
    We have an issue occasionally the last line on the bottom of a page changes the thickness of the line and also the position i.e. the line appears lighter & sometimes indented about 10mm.
    We would love to apply a banner down the right hand side of our landscaped page however the bill is broken into sections which we understand we cant have a full length banner? Open to ideas.
    Thank you for any direction on how to resolve these issues, we have been living with them for 3 years. As mentioned above happy to pay for any expert to help us through this or refer to a partner.
    Thanks again
    Dwayne

    To add to Jamie's post. Updating to Service Pack 7 will not be a bad idea either. You will have to contact sales: 866-681-3435or Customer Interaction Center: SAP Service Marketplace Content Page to get the SP.
    Other than that, one question per Discussion would be great. SCN Rules of Engagement.

  • Where can I download required tools for testing Crystal Reports?

    Hello!
    I would like to trial your reports. So, I downloaded them from the following link:
    Thank You | SAP
    The SAP Crystal Reports Installation Guide told me that I should install SAP GUI and Business Explorer tools.
    Where can I download these tools?
    I found the following links which seems to give me what I need:
    SAP GUI 7.30 Download
    Complete Installation SAP GUI 740 and BEx Frontend - SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse - SCN Wiki
    But I cannot download the required tools.
    Even though I am successfully registered and logged on your web site, it asked me to enter my credentials. And after I do so, it keeps asking me to do so. I record a video showing this:
    2015-04-08_1857 - ZhannaSelishcheva's library
    Would you please let me know how can I evaluate your Crystal reports and provide links for required tools?

    Hi Jane
    What exactly are you trying to do? Why SAP GUI? Do you have an Enterprise product / access to SMP?

  • Load time issue for the Crystal Reports

    Hello All
    My reports take painstakingly longer time to load and display due to the number of records it has to display (~10000 records)
    Currently i use the loop approach to provide the logon info for all the reports/subreports. This is the place where i presume it is taking time.
                     crTables = crReportDocument.Database.Tables
                    ' Loop through each table in the report
                    For Each crTable In crTables
                        crLogOnInfo = crTable.LogOnInfo
                        ' Set the connection information for the table in the report.
                        crLogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo.ServerName = DB_SERVER_NAME
                        crLogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo.DatabaseName = DB_NAME
                        crLogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo.UserID = DB_USER
                        crLogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo.Password = DB_PASSWORD
                        Log("set login info to main table " & crTable.Name & " location " & crTable.Location)
                        crTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(crLogOnInfo)
                    Next
    Can i use the following approach instead to provide the same functionality to avoid such nasty loops??
    crReportDocument.DataSourceConnections[0].SetConnection(DB_SERVER_NAME, DB_NAME, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD);
    crReportDocument.Refresh();
    Thanks in advance

    You need the "loop part" - at least I'd be way more comfortable if you use it. From my experience, you have a more robust app when you loop through the tables.
    reason I asked about subreports; if a subreport is inthe detail section and you have a 1000 records in the detail, and the subreport runs per record, you are essentially running 1000 + 1 reports. Obviously this will take a significant amount of time. As it is even 10 to 15 subreports is quite significant as you are running the subreports plus the main report... Possibly the best way for you to compare the speed is not run the report in a CR designer.(e.g.; what I am asking is; OK, the report is slow. Compared to what?) As you are using CR 10.2, I'd recommend downloading an eval of either CR XI r2 or CR 2008 and see how the reports perform there. If the performance in the designer is slow, it will not get any faster at runtime.
    The evals can be downloaded from here:
    http://www.businessobjects.com/products/reporting/crystalreports/eval.asp
    Also will the below line work for my subreports too ?
    crReportDocument.DataSourceConnections(0).SetConnection(DB_SERVER_NAME, DB_NAME, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD)
    - it will, as long as the subreports are using the same connection type as your main report. However I really would not get hung up on loop v.s. no loop. As a matter of fact, this subreport database logon uses loop s as well and it is the recommended way of connecting the subreports:
    'Log on subreport
    crSubreportDocument = crReportDocument.OpenSubreport("Ron")
    crConnectionInfo = New ConnectionInfo
    With crConnectionInfo
    .ServerName = "Rcon1"
    .DatabaseName = "Northwind"
    .UserID = "tech"
    .Password = "tech"
    End With
    crDatabase = crSubreportDocument.Database
    crTables = crDatabase.Tables
    For Each crTable In crTables
    crTableLogOnInfo = crTable.LogOnInfo
    crTableLogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo = crConnectionInfo
    crTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(crTableLogOnInfo)
    Next
