Seting Bios to read a S-ATA HD and a P-ATA HD

I am setting up a PENT 2.8, 512 DDR ram using a 875P NEO MB.  I have a new S-ATA hard drive 120 GB and an older P-ATA hard drive 80GB.   I have tried to adjust the bios so my system sees both drives.  It has no problem seeing the S-ATA drive but the P-ATA drive does not show up when I click on my computer.  Does anyone know the fix in the BIO seting on the On-Chip ATA(s) Operate Mode in the bio setup?????
Help Please DR

I assumed you were running XP. My guess now is Win98. Native setting is for XP (and other NT's), and the ICH5 controller supports up to 4 PATA plus 2 SATA drives in native mode. In legacy mode there are only 4 drives allowed: 4 PATA or 2 PATA/2 SATA.
The message about no bios installed tells me you have the FIS2R model, which has a Promise controller that supports two more SATA and two more PATA drives. When it doesn't find any drives it doesn't bother attaching its bios to the system and is letting you know. You can disable the promise controller in the bios to eliminate this, or just ignore it.
You can't put cd or dvd drives on the promise controller IDE3 channel, but you can put your PATA drive on it. I assume you have the ATAPI version zip, so I would recommend you put your cd drive on IDE1, your zip on IDE2 and your PATA on IDE3. (Again, I am guessing you have a cd drive).
I hope this is clear and I hope it works

  • Changing bios to read usb on startup

Re: pavilion notebook dm 1 -4010us. My password no longer logs me into Windows 7 Home edition. I need to restore the password via usb. How can I change the bios to read the usb on startup? I already downloaded the password recovery program on a usb 16g.  None of the F keys will give the option I need.

I believe that you are thinking about older notebooks. (i.e.  Windows XP generation lower end notebooks) Notebooks that arrived with Windows 7 and newer operating systems have that feature in BIOS.

  • Bios temp reading

just updated to 1.7b, and noticed that bios reads my cpu temp @ 66c system is 37C in a non air conditioned room, heatsink is only warm to touch and definately is not 66c or anywhere close. core center seems to pick it up right at 35-50c , why is my bios lying to me? i dont think i should have to worry about this or should i? running stock cooler with 3 outtake fans and one 120" intake fan along with 4 small hd fans on removable ide trays pointing inwards aswell in an aluminum rackmoutedd case, when im recording takes, i unplug the 120" and the hd fans but it really doesnt make that much difference in temp even with a full load, basically i just want someone to confirm that the bios is reading temps wrong,

  • 990FXA-GD80 BIOS temperature reading incorrect?

I got my board yesterday and i put in an AMD Phenom II X6 1100T CPU with cooler master V8 cooler. I have the Fan Speed on it set to max 2100 RPM and applied artic silver 5. On my old board MSI 890FXA-gd70 the cpu temp in the bios displayed 33-35C however in the 990 it says it is constantly at 53-55C. I took it apart again cleaned the cpu and the v8 with Isotropyl 99% alcohol, reapplied thermal paste (first time i reasoned maybe the layer was too thick so i only applied a small pea sized ammount of AS5 and spread it to thin layer) and again same problem. I then decided to check temps via software. So i installed Win7 fearing the cpu might overheat for some reason but it installed just fine. I downloaded HW Monitor since that program can be installed quickly and read temps on the fly and it displayed that the CPU cores (Cores #0-#5) were 27-28C idle and when i was updating the cores worked up to 35C-36C. I then installed MSI Control Center latets version 2.2.024 and it said cpu temp was 33C and system is 36C. I looked back to HW Monitor and matched System temp with TMPIN2 Temp listed in HW Monitor. TMPIN0 reads 44-45C constantly i reasoned this must be NB temp. I looked back to the bios after rebooting and the temps again were 53C-54C for CPU and 35C-36C for system. Based on readings from HW Monitor, MSI Control Center and AMD Overdrive (i downloaded that one too to be sure) I am going to have to assume that the BIOS temp readings for CPU are incorrect. In HW Monitor there is no reading labeled "TMPIN1" or "CPU" and it was the only program that would say the general temp reading of my CPU. Does anybody else have this problem? Should I just shrug it off and say meh it happens? If for any reason my CPU is running too hot what are the symptoms of overheating? Thank you

Odd you get correct(?) readings from software programs - they have no separate thermometer. Sure, BIOS may be incorrect. That is a common problem, but then your monitoring programs should be up the wall, too. More common is in fact, the BIOS readings are correct and programs are wrong.
Comparing with a different system is impossible. Case and cooling can not be the same; a case built for a Pentium II wont cope nicely with a 6-core processor of today.
well apparently its happening to me, and im not the only one. That other dude using water cooling and his bios temps are 20C of true readings. looking at it from a coding perspective maybe its just adding 20 to the temp. by mistake, but i can't say for sure since I am expert in programming languages not so much into BIOS and firmware kinda stuff.

  • K8NNeo2Plat (bios v1.8) + 9800 PRO = 4x AGP and not 8x?

    Hello
My K8N Neo2 Plat (bios v1.8) + 9800 PRO = 4x AGP and not 8x (even with bios setting set to AGP 4x8x, fast writes enabled)?
I am using the latest ATI 5.6 driver but my MSI fails to allow the AGP card to boot up at 8x (only 4x).
Q1) Should I roll back my BIOS to 1.5?
Q2) What is the best BIOS for the MSI K8N NEO2 Platinum?
    Any ideas?

fyi, I think I found the problem when in Battlefield2 automatically started to lag (then die)after 10 mins LAN play.
My 9800 Pro (AGP) was dropping back to 4x (or even 1x AGP) at boot and I assume when I was playing a Battlefield2 multiplayer levels for 10 mins+ the texture cache was too much for my 9800 pro card and it had to swap to main memory via AGP 1x or 4x (killing my fps).
I have found our that the latest ATI driver uses a new method of testing your card's reliability and speed called 'GART'. Nvidia's first implementation of 'GART' was not compatible (BSOD) with an MSI K8N Neo2 Plat or XP SP2 so I have never installed the nvidia GART driver (as suggested be many)
Well the new ATI drivers (cat 5.5) need the GART software to read the BIOS '8x AGP' and 'AGP Fast Writes' values.  If the GART software (mainboard driver) is not detected the ATI drivers disables the 8x AGP and Fast Writes  and drops back to compatibility mode.
I installed the GART software tonight (120k file) and bingo, all is well and even my 3d benchmarks are up 25%.
Who would have thought that a video card driver needed a software driver to read BIOS values that have been able to read OK on other video cards since the dawn of time.
I will never buy an ATI video card again.

  • Adobe Reader has encountered a problem and needs to close.

When reading PDF attachments, I get the following:  Adobe Reader has encountered a problem and needs to close. I have tried to remove Adobe Reader via Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs but that won't work.  I get this:  This patch package could not be opened.  Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package. I don't know how to do what is being asked.  I have tried to download Adobe Reader again but get this when I do:  Note:  this application already installed.
I have Adobe Reader X (10.0.1) with an update installed on 2/19/2011.  I have Windows XP SP3.
Anyone who can help me get Adobe Reader working correctly again or uninstalling it so I can reinstall.
    Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the input.  Did you remove Adobe Reader 10 first before you downloaded the older version?  If you removed it, how did you do that?  The add/remove programs in control panel won't let me remove it -- it says a patch package can't be opened.

If you don't want an EEM policy, then don't use any of the EEM constructs.  Instead, all you need is this:
set output [exec "snmp get v2c 192.168.1.100 public timeout 1 oid 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.1.0"]puts $output

  • Lightroom encountered and error when reading from it preview cache and needs to quit

A power outage caused my Lightroom 5.2 to shut down without closing.  When I powered back up and opened lightroom it gives me an error "Lightroom encountered and error when reading from it preview cache and needs to quit" and then it says it will try to fix it the next time it opens. I have opened it 20 times and it is not fixing it. I removed the program completely and upgraded to 5.5 AND it is still giving me the same error.  Is my catalog corrupt or something? I had it set to automatically load the most currently used catalog, so it is not allowing me to open or start a new catalog either. HELP!!!

Search the forum, this has been answered many times.

  • "Lightroom encountered and error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit"

I keep receiving this error every time I open LR, "Lightroom encountered and error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit" and the app won't open. It said LR would try and fix this error next time I opened it but the error remains. I tried uninstalled and installing the app and the error remains.
Any Ideas here? Is there another app that may be telling it where to look for the cache and it no longer there? I was using a ramdisk for a bit but ditched it. Not sure if that has something to do with it but it seems suspect.
    Your thoughts?

Talked to Adobe support this morning, this is their response in case anyone else is looking for help. I'm running a Windows 7 box, LR 5.6.
Gokul: Click on start and type %appdata%, then open roaming folder.
      Edward: ok
      Gokul: Open Adobe folder.
      Gokul: Open Lightroom folder.
      Gokul: Open Lightroom folder> Preferences.
      Edward: ok
Gokul: Rename Lightroom 5 Preferences.agprefs file as Lightroom 5 Preferences.agprefsOLD.
      Edward: OK
Gokul: Please check if you can launch Lightroom without any error.
Edward: it shows me a welcome screen and is asking me to select my country
      Edward: aka, register the software
Gokul: You can skip and launch it.
      Edward: LR catalog not found
      Gokul: Please select the catalog.
      Edward: my original catalog?
      Gokul: Yes.
      Edward: testing integrity of catalog
      Edward: loaded just fine
      Gokul: Okay.
Gokul: Please check if you can re-launch it again.
      Edward: yes, it worked!
      Gokul: Excellent!
Gokul: Since your preferences were corrupted you were facing issue so we renamed the preferences file to reset it.
      Edward: aha....ok
All of my import/export presets were intact along with develop user presets. I'm happy as a clam for my $10/month!

  • LR encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit.

I have the 30 day trial version of Lightroom.  I was able to use it for one week, but the past 1.5-2 weeks, it has been locked up and giving this error message.  How do I resolve the problem?  And how do I reset the 30 day free trial?  I would like to have time using the product, before deciding on the annual contract.
"LR encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit.  Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem the next time it launches."
    Thank you.

Delete the preview cache from the Lightroom folder in your Pictures folder if you used the default placement. It has the extension .lrdata.
You cannot reset the trial period.

Use Windows Explorer to open the folder containing your catalog. The normal location is Pictures\Lightroom. Locate a folder with the extension .lrdata and delete that folder. Then you should be able to start Lightroom again, and Lightroom will begin building and new previews folder. Do not delete anything else.

I've tried renaming my catalog.lrcat file.  I've copied over my most recent backup of the catalog.lrcat and that didn't work either.

    On Mac:
PS - to open the previews "folder" (a "package" is just a "special" folder) on Mac, ctrl-click and choose "Show package contents.." - same way you open any other special folder, like .app or .lrplugin..
