Seting up my System

Hi fcs geniuses
I've finally got around to setting up Final Cut Studio 2 on my MacBook Pro and I also have an external hard drive. Now I'm wondering if this is a good way to have my system set up (before I start reconnecting media).
Ok, so in my documents on my mac I have:
Autosave Vault
Thumbnail Cache Files
Waveforme Cache Files
On my external I have:
Audio Render Files
Capture Scratch
Render Files
Is this a good set up?
Also I had a file called "Final Cut Express Documents" in my documents (I used to work with FCE) and I have just dragged and dropped all the things that used to be in the old say the Final Cut Express "Capture Scratch" or "Autosave Vault" into the "Final Cut Pro Documents" "Capture Scratch", Autosave Vault", etc... So all my media is not split and in two places (I hope I did right by doing this). Will that be ok?

Very sensible. So it's a good idea to save my projects to the external or shift my Autosave vault to the external. Correct?
If so I can start reconnecting media!

[SOLVED] conky RAM monitor problem

Hey, wasup guys.
I just have 1 question I hope you can answer. I have the basic conky installed and it only shows 3GB (2.95 GiB) of RAM while there's actually 4x1 GB rams in the computer. So basically I'd like to see if one of them is actually not being detected... I have a pretty light install (still working on seting up various system tools) so I dont know where to look :D

I recommend check bios first see if all 4 gb shows, if yes then ask other questions like are you running 32 bit in which case not all 4 gb would be available, and/or do you have onboard graphics using some of the memory. For 32bit aswell if your discrete graphics has its own 1gb memory, the system can only address 3gb of the sysytem ram.

EREC BSP Problem

Hi pple,
We are seting up EREC system on ECC 5.0,EP 6.0 and EREC 3.0.
We did the needed Technical Settings for the EREC system.
When we tried TESTING the BSP Application - HRRCF_START_EXT, it's asking for EREC User id and password. When we typed in the id and password, we are getting an error -
"Name of logical port '&lp_name&' is invalid"
The validation of user id and password is getting done properly, but only thing is, after validation, we are getting this error.
In fact we tried out same thing with another BSP Application - HRRCF_CAND_REG, And when we enter all these details, the USER ID is getting created properly in BACKEND System, but getting the same error in the next screen of that application.
Can anyone help us in these regards.

Hi pple,
I solved the problem with the help of SAP Support.
Well, the problem is due to 2 reasons.
1) We got to test the EREC BSP Application by creating the URL using the RCF_GENERATE_URL report and use this URL to test the EREC Application.I created my IView and copied the application parameters(which I got from my generated URL) in my IView definition.
2) The error "Name of logical port '&lp_name&' is invalid", comes due to lack of OTR Definition. We got to define OTR's for every application,Group,Page so that we can see the correct description.
All these works only after setting the SYSTEM PARAMETER in EREC Technical Settings.
And there is no problem with LOGICAL PORTS at all.
I hope this solution will be useful for many pple like me.

Shared storage solution

Hi people (specially Tom and Jerry, I mean Jim and Jerry)
My bussines is growing and I am adding computers to edit in a colaborative way in order to meet tv deadlines. My biggest pain is to organize all the media so that all machines can work continuously (for instance if I capture 90% in one machine and 10% in another, then one will finish work before the other while the other still has tons to do.) So knowing what to capture in wich machine is imposible and impredictable, and this is when I come to think of a shared storage solution. I already know about xsan and all its benefits, but right now I cant afford it. Still, for dv and maybe 3 or 4 workstatons, I think something much cheaper may suffice. I was thinking of buying a g4, fit as many drives in it as I can (4 or 5 maybe), add raid cards, maybe an external power supply for the drives, and fiberchannel cards and a switch. This is where I take opinions.
Also, I dont know if just networking the machines as in a regular ethernet network would be the way to do it or I would need to use a server os x or something. I know nothing about the software side of this.
So I think this post already opens a lot of questions to start with, and I will be very happy to read your suggestions.

Thanks David. I didnt find much here, only that gigabit is not all that reliable (wich I already tought) and that fiberchannel is the way to go. I agree with you that time is the main value and so It would be best to buy a turnkey, but right now I dont have the money and still need a solution. I really would not hesitate to buy an xsan, as it would really increase productivity and I would be able to sleep at night knowing my media is safe ( I really fear domestic raids when working on deadlines). For now I will investigate the posibility of seting up a system like the one I mentioned but using fiber instead of ethernet. Once I build this will post my results, and I am still open to suggestions.

Verifying and seting file system cache parameters

I have a Solaris 10 system that has 64Gb of memory that is running a Sybase database with raw devices. Based on the output of "echo ::memstat | mdb -k" it looks like I have about 5Gb of memory being chewed up by filesystem caching which is really not a big deal for us. Can anyone point me to the way for changing the default filesystem caching parameters so I can free up some of this memory?
EDIT: One last thing is that we're using VxVM for this system with all non-system filesystems being VxFS. That's basically just our dump and tempdb filesystems.

So, the memory listed under Free (cachelist) is also useable by applications? I thought that stuff was dedicated to the filesystem cache, which is really unnecessary for our system. Almost all IO on this system is through raw devices and the rest is on VxFS filesystems.

How do i find out what operating system my ipod touch has

I just got a new iPod touch for Christmas and assumed it was using ios5. But there is no icon for icloud anywhere on it and I can't find where it tells what its operating system is. How do I find out what operating system my ipod touch is using?

Seting Bios to read a S-ATA HD and a P-ATA HD

I am setting up a PENT 2.8, 512 DDR ram using a 875P NEO MB. I have a new S-ATA hard drive 120 GB and an older P-ATA hard drive 80GB. I have tried to adjust the bios so my system sees both drives. It has no problem seeing the S-ATA drive but the P-ATA drive does not show up when I click on my computer. Does anyone know the fix in the BIO seting on the On-Chip ATA(s) Operate Mode in the bio setup?????

I assumed you were running XP. My guess now is Win98. Native setting is for XP (and other NT's), and the ICH5 controller supports up to 4 PATA plus 2 SATA drives in native mode. In legacy mode there are only 4 drives allowed: 4 PATA or 2 PATA/2 SATA.
The message about no bios installed tells me you have the FIS2R model, which has a Promise controller that supports two more SATA and two more PATA drives. When it doesn't find any drives it doesn't bother attaching its bios to the system and is letting you know. You can disable the promise controller in the bios to eliminate this, or just ignore it.
You can't put cd or dvd drives on the promise controller IDE3 channel, but you can put your PATA drive on it. I assume you have the ATAPI version zip, so I would recommend you put your cd drive on IDE1, your zip on IDE2 and your PATA on IDE3. (Again, I am guessing you have a cd drive).

System suspends after resume

Hello, I have a problem with my system, when I use the suspend key (sleep key) my system goes correctly to sleep, when I wake it up it wakes up as intended but then, after a few seconds it suspends again without me triggering it. I know there is a known issue with systemd and acpid and I have edited my /etc/systemd/logind.conf file seting the Handle parts to ignore
HandlePowerKey=ignore
HandleSuspendKey=ignore
HandleHibernateKey=ignore
HandleLidSwitch=ignore
I'm using Enlightenment and it uses the comand systemctl suspend. Is there something I'm missing, some bug or misconfiguration?
My journalctl says:

Similar problem here, but only when I close the lid of my laptop (Asus UX31).
Putting it to sleep any other way resumes just fine.

Why Creation Bin Structure is not in full following seting up?

I created bin structure at spro as 03-01-01 to 03-10-10 increment 03-01-01 but when I check bin at t-code LX03 which the system shows only 03-01-01 to 03-02-10 (20 bins) so I could not understand this why system shows bin no in full following me seting up. _How to do, check and change this?_ Moreover I could not also find the missing bin in the system.

R6970 lightning voltage seting

hi guys i have pulled my hair out for over a week now tying to get the top card to run at a decent temp and stable the only way i could manage this is by
setting "IOH if you are running a single PCIe card (graphics card), give the IOH 1.3V, if you are running more than one PCIe graphics card, give it 1.35V."
now my temp on top card does not get over 72 degrease in full vantage bench with gpu's at 98 percent usage
im runing dual lightning cards stock
ive been runing gpu-z to log file
try using msi afterburner/ kombustor , ino kombustor doesnt always reflect how most games will utilize the GPU's but least u'll get a feel for how fast ur gpu temps rise (dont use extreme burn-in)
with out this bios seting i could not get the temp down on the top card and they are actualy stable now
o'h and im runing 11.6b drivers

Same EPM Excel Report takes time to open and refresh on 1 system while it opens and refreshes faster on other system

Hi All ,
I am facing an issue where the EPM Excel Templates on SERVER ROOT FOLDER take time to open on 1 system . It also takes great amount of time to REFRESH . While on an another system the same Report opens rather quickly and refreshes also quickly .

Remote System and Remote Key Mapping at a glance

Hi,
I want to discuss the concept of Remote System and Remote Key Mapping.
Remote System is a logical system which is defined in MDM Console for a MDM Repository.
We can define key mapping enabled at each table level.
The key mapping is used to distinguish records at Data Manager after running the Data Import.
Now 1 record can have 1 remote system with two different keys but two different records cannot have same remote system with same remote key. So, Remote key is an unique identifier for record for any remote system for each individual records.
Now whenever we import data from a Remote System, the remote system and remote key are mapped for each individual records. Usually all records have different remote keys.
Now, when syndicating back the record with default remote key is updated in the remote system that is sent by xml file format.
If same record is updated two times from a same remote system, the remote key will be different and the record which is latest contains highest remote key.
Now, I have to look at Data Syndication and Remote key.
I have not done Data Syndication but my concept tell if there is duplicate record with same remote system but different remote keys both will be syndicated back. But if same record have two remote keys for same remote system then only the default remote key is syndicated back.

Yes, but if they are duplicate, they needs to be merged.
But if same record have two remote keys for same remote system then only the default remote key is syndicated back.
This is after merging. So whichever remote key has tick mark in key mapping option(default) , it will be syndicated back.

Error while creating a support message in satellite system

Hi,
I am facing an error while sending a support message to solman form the satellite system
(( Error Description : Error in Local Message System: Error when opening
an RFC connection Message was Not Created ))
1) I gone through various threads and set the required authorizations like
SAP_SUPPDESK_CREATE and
SAP_SV_FDB_NOTIF_BC_ADMIN ,
SAP_SUPPDESK_ADMIN
for the user in the solman .
2) I checked the RFC connection and it is working fine.
Anyone pls help me to resolve this issue

System Image Restore in Window 8.1

I have not been able to find a data migration application that works at cloning a Windows 8.1 hard drive to a new SSD. With that in mind I want to go about moving the contents, data and operating system from my working C: to a new SSD. I want
to go about it as if I have backed up my system, my C: drive has failed so I need to install a new drive and restore my data and operating system to the new drive. I can't seem to find any simple (this should be simple) straight forward way to do this
nor can I find any form of written instruction on how to go about this.
I would love to have someone articulate this. As it stands I have a fully operational intact C drive. I have completed a disk image to a second separate hard drive. I now want to restore that content to a third (SSD ) drive.
Where do I begin?

There is a system backup tool called System Image Backup, follow these steps to conduct this:
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.)
Enter File History in the search box, tap or click File History, and then click System Image Backup at the left part.
See the screenshot as below, you can backup it on local machine or a DVD or a network share folder:
Besides, I need to point out that this backup method will generate a vhd file, if you want to restore the system you need an DVD installation midia.
You cannot just restore a vhd file directly to the hard drive.

I tried to install latest OS update. Recd error installing. IT tried to load the upgrade in Safe Mode. Now system will not boot up. IT says I have to do a clean install which loses all data.

After receiving an error when I try to install the latest update of OS-X, I took my laptop to oour schools IT dept. They tried to run the update in safe mode and then they got an error saying the system could not find the hard drive. Now they want to run a clean install which loses 1000's of docs and pictures. I have Block I exams in med school next Monday and all of my notes and slides are on that hard drive.
The IT dept took the hard drive out and tried to back it up and they said they other computer could not connect or find my hard drive.
Major panic....
I have Norton antivirus and have never found any viruses on the system. I also have a program called ExamSoft which some other students here have noted they had similar crashes. Not sure if that is the issue...

Several take home messages here:
always back up before you update.
always back up anything you don't want to lose. Kind of like flossing. Only floss the teeth you don't want to lose.
Norton is very, very bad software, and you should get rid of it.
You don't need antivirus software on your mac. Antivirus software on macs causes more trouble than it is worth.
Your hard drive may be failing and thus may not be salvageable.
You could try booting into the recovery partition and seeing if you can repair your hard drive.
If that doesn't work, then there is a small chance that a third party utility (like Disk Warrior or TechTool) might be able to fix your drive (if it is not failing).
If that doesn't work, you may be able to send your drive and a lot of cash to a drive recovery service and see if they can get your files off it.
In the mean time, get notes and slides from a (smart) friend.
