Setting 24 hour clock

Hi,
I was wondering how to have iCal show me the time using the Euro method - which in the US they call "military time"? I have never gotten used to the am/pm thing, it's simply annoying! Hopefully iCal does support this? I looked in the settings and cannot find where this would or could be changed. I was able to do it on my desktop macbook date/time in the upper right hand corner so I'm thinking it must be possible for iCal too??
thanks all,
Pierce

Pierce,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.

Even though I am from the US, as an aviator, I too prefer using the 24 hour format. It can be displayed in iCal. Just open System Preferences...>International>Formats>Times>Customize...>Short/Medium/Long/Full and enter your 24 hour preference. iCal may not display the preference change immediately. If it does not register, quit iCal and see what happens when you reopen iCal. If it still displays incorrectly log in/out or restart and check for your 24 hour format in iCal.

Thanks, David.  i thought i had it set correctly in Preferences in L&R. Being i was wearing my suspenders and belt at the same time i went back to L&R, cleared what was there and re-entered same to include unchecking and rechecking Time Format fgor 24-hour time.   It works now. Thanks again.

  • 24 Hour Clock setting? Mail/iCal doesn't report/accept this format.

    Hi guys,
I am traveling a lot these days so to simplify my life, at least so I thought, I based all of my calendars around a 24-hour GMT schedule. Needless to say was not welcomed by my fellow American's and loved apps Mail & iCal. (iChat/Adium misbehave, too.)
I've set my clock 24hour, my timezone to GMT, and have been ignored by iLife. They continue to report AM/PM and its has made organization that more difficult. I would go back to EST/12hour, but dang-it this should be easy.
    TIA for feedback/help!
    -Jonathan

Answering my own post: In the iCal forum there was an answer which helped somewhat. I've managed to tweak my International Preferences to get iCal to report in 24hr time, but Mail is still acting weird.
Anyone have a simple/easy way to make all of the date/times in the same format? I get 0010, 00:10 and 01 Jan 2007 and 01 January 2007. Its nitpick at this point, but any help is appreciated.

  • Leading zeros with 24-hour clock?

I have my system preferences set to 24-hour clock.
How do I get the times to display with leading zeros?
For example, 06:45 instead of 6:45?

As I said before, you need to explore. I was able to add it in less than 30 seconds.
Let me try to explain. It is easy to do, but more difficult to explain.
Go to Sys Prefs/Int'l/Formats pane. Choose Custom in the Times area. Choose Medium in the Show drop down menu. (Medium seems to be the one used by OS X for the menu bar clock.) Here you can arrange the order of the different components as you like. Notice they have little arrows indicating drop down menus. Most of the optional formats offer a leading zero.
Even though you have formatted it in the Int'l pane, you must choose for some of your formating to show in the Date & Time/Clock pane.
    Good Luck.

  • Hour clocks?

II'm looking to have a pie chart where I can show a one hour clock
i am helping out at a radio station and need to have an accurate template of when presenters play songs, talk, play ads and so forth. Is this possible in Numbers?
sorry if it's a dumb question. The iOS 8 version which I just got on my iPhone 6 plus has me amazed! Just hoping some one can give some simple
    instructions for this novice!

Select both columns and insert a pie chart.
Select all segments (shift click) and set no fill.
    Set  Stroke to line
Labels choose data point names, not values
Adjust distance from centre to put labels outside the circle.
Copy the whole pie and paste. On the duplicate, remove wedge borders, hide labels, rotate 15 degrees.
    Overlay the two pies.
I hope this screen shot shows.

  • HT2513 24 hour clock issue

I can not get my ical on my Macbook pro to show the time in the 24 hour clock. I reset the computer clock and did a restart, both my iphone and ipad show appointments in the 24 format...any ideas

    Frank,
Check your setting in System Preferences...>Language & Text>Region>Times>Customize...
You will note  Short/Medium/Long/Full fields. I am not sure which one fills iCal, because I have all of mine set for the 24 hour clock. Fill them all as I did or experiment with an individual setting.
Remove the AM/PM and enter/drag Hour/Minute to the time field.
Quit iCal before making the changes, and log out/in, or restart before opening iCal.

  • 24-hour clock format?

In the previous version of Apple Discussions I was able to set the time displayed in 24-hour clock format, how can this be done in the current version of Apple Support Communities?

I understand your point, but this change has been in the works for a very long time, and the fact is, as you say, you have to release at some point to stress test. There aren't that many issues with iOS—the forums are mainly usable on iPads and so on—so while those details are being worked out, it's probably best to move this out of beta testing and into the real world, so here we are.
I happen to be very happy with the new format. I've been through at least three of these upheavals over the years, and imo, this is easily the smoothest transition we've seen. Many people working very long hours behind the scenes (props to Matt_K. here!) to smooth everything out and introduce many, many more features in the near- and mid-term, so be patient and give it a little bit of time (more than these few days anyway!)
    Good luck!

  • 24 Hour Clock on iCal

My Time/Date Preferences on system preferences are set to the 24 hour clock and I thought that this flowed through to my iCal times. My times on iCal are now AM/PM. Is there a way to get it back to the other clock?

Well, this setting is in the International area of the system preferences but rather than setting your region to your local area, you need to customize how the time is displayed.

  • No 24 hour clock in Calendar?

I use a 24 hour clock in everything I do, but it seems to be unavailable in iCal. Is this the case, and if so, why?

    Peter,
Quit Calendar, open System Preferences...>Language & Regions>Regions: and set/-re-set the appropriate Region. Also, make sure the "Time format:" in that preference pane is checked for 24-Hour Time.

  • How to set iCalendar clock time preferences to AM/PM?

Preferences only allow for 24 hour clock. System preference are set for AM/PM.

    Hi,
You make this change in System Preference, Language & Text:
Go to System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats tab.
Click the Customize button under Times.
Select 1-12 for the first number in each section.
Drag the PM token to follow the time in all date formats you change.
When you're happy, click the OK button.
    Then re-open iCal.
    Best wishes

  • Printing calendar with 12 hour clocks

I have my Mac set up with 24 hour clocks.    I don't like having to remember which oxymoronic 12 am or 12 pm a computer uses.
But I need to print up calendars to share with people who seem to have troubles with this.    It is obvious in reading whether an event is in morning or afternoon.  Is there an easy way to print up a calendar using a different time default from my computer's default?
(I also can't trust what date midnight is).

Calendar is tied to your system preferences, you can switch it off just for printing.

  • Iphone Time -24 Hour Clock

I use 24 the hour time setting vs. the 12 hour clock. Every so often the time reverts to the 12 hour clock. I have to go into "settings" and choose the 24 setting again. This happens once a week or so.
I have the latest iphone OS update. Anyone else have this problem?

I figured out that the problem occurs *every time a calendar event reminder on the iPhone pops up*: Both iPhone (FW 1.1.1) and MacBook (running Leopard 10.5) are set to 24h display, but when a calendar event on the iPhone pops up, the clock switches to AM/PM 12h display and needs to be switched back to 24h display via iPhone’s General Settings. Very annoying.

  • 24 hour clock widget?

Anyone know of a 24 hour clock widget that allows you to set the time zone?

What options have you set for date and time display in your System Preferences.
For law enforcement documentation purposes this is serious
Given that the date and time Exif data can be edited by anyone with iPhoto or any of a hundred other apps I don’t think that this information is reliable for “law enforcement documentation purposes.“

Quit iCal, go to System Preferences...>Language & Text>Formats>Region: and set/reset the appropriate region.
Log out/in or restart and iCal should display the a.m./p.m. format.

  • OS X 24-hour Clock (differences in OS X 10.5, 10.6)

I found out that if you set the Menu bar clock to display 24-hour in in OS X 10.5, it only affects that display. In menus and most everywhere else if you desire the time/date format to include 24-hour clock formatting, you must set up each parameter in 'International' in System Preferences (hours format, AM/PM). Once set there, the format applies universally (regardless how your Menu Bar clock is set). Here's how...
Setting for 24-hour clock in Leopard requires setting up the clock hours format (drop down pattern choices) to 00-23 hours (0-23 hours) AND deleting both 'AM' & 'PM' in the appropriate boxes.
Is there any more direct way to change the system clock from AM/PM 12-hour clock to 'military time' (aka 24-hour clock), in Leopard?
Curiously, in Snow Leopard (SL) all the above is changed by 'tweaks' in Clock settings that carry that selection to the international settings when the box for '24 hour clock' is checked. Also in SL, the (System Preferences>)Language & Text settings for Medium, Long, Full have become irrelevant (and don't affect the displayed info in menus or menu bar clock) when 24-hour clock is enabled in Time & Date. There now, if you select 24 hour clock, the AM/PM display becomes grayed out. Just some more interesting little 'tweaks'.
If you use use 24-hour clock (sometime soon) and need to set it with some machines on SL, and some on Leopard, the differences may get confusing.

Hi vegarskog, and a warm welcome to the forums!
While you may get help or a solution here, It's quite acceptable to start a new topic of your own, certainly feel free to start a new topic to attract more helpers to your particular situation, on this side it gets hard to respond to more than one person at a time & their particular situation, here's a link if as is often the case, it's hard to find out where to do it...

Anyway, Is this a Gray Install Disc from a different Mac?
It really shouldn't be doing that.

  • Silly bug: iCal notification w/ 24-hour clock includes meridian qualifier

This is a silly bug that QA seems to have missed:
If you use 24-hour clock setting, iCal notifications will come up looking like:
    Meeting: 16:00 pm
This is downright redundant, and it's repetitive too!
    iPhone   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   8GB

does it really do this? I haven't noticed, now i have to check/pay attention!
I also use 24-hr clock, and if true, that IS annoying! :X
