Setting a High Resolution when generating a PDF

We build a lot of files for the outdoor industry (Billboards) the vendors send us the parameters that they want the files built at. For example, 1/20 th scale, and at that scale they set a certain "dpi" they require. So my questions: what is the max I can set? (I tried to set at "4800dpi (NOT a typo) wouldn't allow me. Suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Where are you trying to set a resolution? I suspect it doesn't have
the effect you imagine it might.

Can I expect a video to be in high resolution in an interactive PDF?
I’m doing a project in which I want to burn a music video and a image portfolio. The images look very good when exported but the video stutters and is pixelated. Can I expect the video to look as good as if I would burn it in Encore for example?

Thanks for your quick reply. Sorry, should have said that. I'm using CS5.5
Thing is, this is going to be a promotion DVD with the video and some pictures. I heard about the interactive PDF and liked the way I could build it like a portfolio, the way you can click through the images
and click to see the video.Everything looks good except the video.
I tried to do this in Encore but there I got bad image quality and good video quality. In InDesign I get bad video quality and good image quality.
My video is made in Premiere pro so maybe I should check the media encoder.
But, with the project I want to do, what program would you suggest?

  • File size or resolution when exporting to PDF file.

    Hello,
I'm using the following code to export my reports to PDF format, by an ASP.NET page:
    CType(crReportClientDoc, CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ClientDoc.ReportClientDocument).PrintOutputController.Export(CrReportExportFormatEnum.crReportExportFormatPDF)
But I need to produce files with sizes lower than now. Making some tests in Adobe, I note if I reduce the pdf resolution, the files became with a reduced size. Does anyone know if is it possible to configure the resolution when generating PDF files by Crystal? I looked to ExportEx method and PDFExportFormatOptionsClass, but I didn't find any about it.
    Thanks to all

Nope. Crystal uses an old version of pdf (1.x I believe) for backward compatibility reasons.
There is no way to reduce the size of the pdf that you export other than changing what is on the report itself.

  • T420s - Unable to set high resolution when on external monitor via DP.

    Sorry, let me clarify -
Unlike the OP, I do *not* switch back to 50 Hz on battery. However, I am running the NVIDIA beta driver. I installed this because with the Lenovo driver, the machine was not outputiting 2560x1600 over the display port. The highest resolution it would output was 2048 x 1000-something (out of the office now and don't have the exact numbers).
So yes, with the Lenovo driver the external DP was working, just not outputting the highest resolution. Installing the Nvidia driver fixed that problem. Whether it is related or not, I don't know, but with this driver I do not get 50Hz resolution on the LCD on battery -- everything stays at 60.
I have not rolled back to the Lenovo driver to test whethe this is reall a driver issue, but suggest that the OP try out the Nvidia driver.

The unable to set high resolution issue on the T420 (not the T420s) was sent to engineering by JameZ just a few days ago. See more here. I suggest you post there or contact JameZ so they know it also occurs on the T420s.

  • How to preserve a background color, when generating a PDF file

I am trying to create a PDF file from some application. Please note that the picture in this application has the black background. So I invoke a Print command and set a printer as "Adobe PDF". As a result, I have generated
a brilliant PDF file of my picture, but on the WHITE background. When selecting the Adobe PDF printer, I have looked through all its settings ( in the Adobe PDF settings, I have found several tabs: General, Images, Fonts, Color, Advanced, PDF/X), none of them generated the original background color.
So how can a generate a PDF file, having the original background color (black, in my case) ?
    Oleg

Now I feel that the background definition in the Adobe PDF printer and the background definition in the application the Adobe PDF printer is invoked from -- two different things. So I guess how can I define the black background in the Adobe PDF printer? I cannot find such settings.

  • How do I make sure the photos in my InDesign files are at a high resolution when I send those files to a coworker? (Keeping them as .indd)

I am leaving my job and we have been uploading all of my InDesign files onto Google Drive to prepare, so that my boss/coworkers can use and access my work. My boss has found that he can't download the files without the photos in the documents turning out super low-res. It's not just the display on his computer (although they do LOOK really awful); they also print in really low-res. I can print and view the SAME files in high-res when I'm working on my computer, and when I export the documents into a PDF, PNG, JPEG, etc., and THEN give him the files, they are at the appropriate resolution. Which has been all fine and dandy, but... Since I'm the only designer on staff, and I am leaving, I am going to need to be able to hand off my documents to my boss/coworkers. Help?!?!?! Thanks!

If you go to Window>Output>Preflight. It will show you what you are missing in your files.
You can also go to Window>Links. Find the picture in question and it will give you a status (?) if you are missing any image. At the bottom of that same Links panel you will see tiny icons that say Relink, Go to Link, Update, you can replace or find any that are missing.
To find out if your images are high res for print, you can go to Window>Info and select the pictures in question. It will give you an effect ppi when you click on your picture. If it's not at least 300 it's not high res.
After you fix all that, then package the file.

  • Garbled fonts when generating a PDF file

    Greetings all:
I am currently creating a series of documents in FM10 which are then converted to PDF for eventual posting on the web.The first two converted to PDF okay (more or less). I created a chapter template which is used for making the third document. All of the formats and document properties are the same. When I generated the PDF (saved book as PDF), I got some weird results. All of the headings, chapter titles, and other text that used the Lucida Sans Demi Bold font came out garbled. Even the character count doesn't jibe with the original in Frame. I checked to make sure the font is installed in the c:\windows\fonts folder. Adobe PDF is set as the default printer. I tried generating the PDF with "Rely on system fonts only, do not use document fonts" checked and un-checked both. There was no difference in the output.
I don't have much of a choice in fonts. The people I'm doing the work for really want to use the Lucida Sans Demi Bold font. Other sans-serif fonts look okay in regular type but their bold faces are too bold.
Fonts aside, what's going on with the PDF conversion and why am I getting it now with this new document when it worked before with the other two documents?
BTW - I'm using the PDF add-on that came with FM10. We don't have the full version of Acrobat installed. No one to compare notes with here, I'm the only writer and the only FM10 user. On a Win7 platform.

Make certain that the "Convert CMYK Colors to RGB" option is checked in your SaveAsPDF window. Otherwise, you're using the CMYK workflow, which has some serious problems.

  • Hotspots created in Framemaker 11 don't work when generating the PDF

I'm trying to create several hotpots on an image that go to specific locations in a table. I have no problem creating them in Framemaker 11 and the links work fine when I test them using CTL+ALT and the mouse pointer. When I generate the PDF, however, the images has no hotspots and when I click on the image, nothing happens.
    Some other information:
    I'm using Framemaker 11 on Windows 8.
The image was originally a .png, but I tried it with other image formats and still the same result.
Is there a setting I need to change when I generate the PDF?

I primarily use Save As PDF, and I'm not having problems with any of my other links.  I tried printing to the AdobePDF printer, but I get the following error: When you create a PostScript file you must rely on system fonts and use document fonts. Please go to the printer properties, "Adobe PDF Settings" page and turn OFF the option "Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts.
I unselected this option, but I'm still getting this error message. Perhaps I need to close Framemaker and open it again? I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the PDF not being able to generate hotspots, though.

  • How do i set Preset "High Resolution" in save as EPS script

    Hi,
I am writing my own Illustrator scripts to automate the workflow.
I haven't been able to fix a Preset "High Resolution" in the transparency section of the EPS-option dialog.
Is there a way to set that option by script?
It would be great if anyone help an idea of how to solve it.
    MOhan

    Thanks.
My issue is as per my workflow need to supply PDF to clients.
Same is converted from Adobe Illustrator>Concert to EPS>Distill and PDF is ready.
While converting through Script process some of the text's converting in pixels.
Same if converted without script it comes in good quality.
    Please advise.

  • Any way to reduce the resolution when exporting to .pdf

We are emailing reports.  On some reports with a large number of jpegs we are hitting a size limitation.  It would be helpful to reduce the resolution on the jpegs when exporting to .pdf.  Any way that would be possible?

    Hi,
    Need more info-
VS version? or the developing application?
CR Version? Are you directly emailing your reports from CR designer?
Also once the image is fetched by the report, we can not make any changes in the image, as a work around you need to do required changes in the image before adding it to the reports, and as far as I know it is not possible through code, but we can wait for other responses though.
    Sincerely,
    Amit

  • Unwanted bookmarks when generating a PDF in FM 8.0

I have a issue about generating bookmarks when creating a PDF. After I have finished my book, I identify my bookmarks while in the PDF setup window. But for some reason, FM creates bookmarks for paragraph tags that I didn't choose. This is happening in particular to my table of contents. I even reconstructed the book file and created a new table of contents, list of figures and list of tables from scratch, paying close attention to every step and I still get the bookmarks I didn't ask for. If anyone has any advice for me I would appreciate it (Adobe or non-Adobe affiliated). My work email is [email protected]... feel free to contact me. Thank you in advance.

The TitleTOC is a marker that is created by FM when we autogenerate a Table of Contents. We also have markers that FM calls Heading1TOC, Heading2TOC, etc.... When we tell FM that we want it to include the paragraph formats Title, Heading1, Heading2 in the TOC (when autogenerating the TOC), FM creates the markers TitleTOC, Heading1TOC, Heading2TOC (respectively). FM creates these markers so that when the book is updated any time in the future, FM doesn't view the TitleTOC, Heading1TOC, Heading2TOC markers as the paragraph formats that they represent.
Funny thing is though...that FM is not assigning bookmarks to the Heading1TOC, Heading2TOC, etc... just the TitleTOC. We think it is a software glitch of some sort (think being the key word there)....but we aren't sure. Maybe you gentlemen have some ideas?
    Thanks...

  • Appearance is different on the screen and when generated to pdf

When i generated a report to pdf, the appearance is different from the one seen on the screen. The paper layout in the report just consists of only boiler plate text.
Can anybody tell me is it wise enough to put the text directly without being enclosed by a frame as it's appearance is different when you run the report on the screen and when you generate to pdf.

  • How do I maintain resolution when printing to PDF?

I'm printing an edited file, 36" X 24", to a PDF document.  When I do, the resolution of the original document is severly degraded.
I've tried changing page sizes, fooling with teh driver, etc, all to no avail.  Using Acrobat X Standard.
    Am I missing something obvious?

It seems you consider the 36" x 24" as the resolution, but it's the dimensions.
The resolution only applies to anything that is bitmap, making it look better or worse, depending on the resolution setting.
But if you set the paper size to 36" x 24", you'll get a PDF with that dimensions and a variable resolution. It depends on where the PDF is used. For screen, 150dpi is usually sufficient. For images, there is an additional quality setting. For printing, 300dpi or higher is rec'd. Resolution can be set in the PDF printer properties.
