How do set up your hotmail account on a mac book pro properly? I have it set up so I get mail but on my hotmail account I have lot of separate folders to save messages in(for example :- bank, skyp, work, Facebook, apple, ect...). They don't show up on my mac. I also have an iPhone and iPad, there is no issue here when I set those up. I automatically got my separate folders. Anybody have any idea or encountered the same problem?

    Cheers,
I'm not gonna lie, I actually have no idea if its pop or imap. Do you know where you can check and if it can be changed?
Hotmail on a Mac is POP3 only, you will only get the basic folders (inbox, sent, trash etc) and it will not sync with other devices.
And now I post this I see other replies, so this is redundant. !!

i can' t believe it but after 3 hours of reading everything i could find on this subject i discovered the answer on accident: IT'S THE CLOCK!!!!! I know that it sounds crazy but go to settings and go to date and time and set it to the automatic date and time, even if it's the wrong time. after i did that, everything worked perfectly! aldiko accepted my adobe id and imported my purchased book happily.  i hope it is that easy for everyone, best of luck.

  • Setting up hotmail account on ipad 2

i need to set up hotmail account on ipad how do i do that?

You actually now have the option to set up Hotmail as an Exchange account (a HUGE plus).  Here are directions:
Microsoft recently announced that it it now allowing users to connect their iPhones, iPads and iPod touches to its free webmail service – Windows Live Hotmail – via Exchange ActiveSync. Before, the only option for Hotmail users wanting to access their email on the go was to set up their accounts via POP3 or login via a web browser. Because the POP3 protocol does not reflect changes to email statuses (whether read, deleted, etc) with the server version, so your emails end up out of sync. Exchange ActiveSync, on the other hand, reflects your changes across all devices. Plus, it means all your new Hotmail messages can be pushed directly to your iPhone or iPad.
Even better, setting it up on your iPhone or iPad is relatively simple (and thankfully, the same process on either device):
Open Settings and select ‘Mail, Contacts, Calendars’.
Select ‘Add account’, and choose ‘Microsoft Exchange’.
For ‘Email’, enter your Hotmail email address ([email protected], for example).
Leave the ‘Domain’ field blank, but enter your Username (probably [email protected]) and Password (hopefully not yourname1234).
Give the account a description (this will appear in the Email app to identify the account). Select Next.
After that has verified, a new field – ‘Server’ – will appear. Enter m.hotmail.com in this field. Select Next again.
Choose which services you want to sync (Mail, Contacts and Calendars), and you’re done.
You can also set up how many days worth of mail you want to sync across and which folders should push emails to you.
To set up whether you want your email pushed to your phone (it’s an all-or-none decision if you have multiple Push-enabled accounts), go back to ‘Mail, Contacts, Calendars’, and select ‘Fetch New Data’. Here you can toggle Push on/off or choose to fetch data every 15 minutes, 30 minutes, hourly or manually (the latter will go easiest on your battery).

  • How to add hotmail account to my mac mail?

I want to manage may hotmail account in my mail from my macbook pro. Apparently, I could add the account but it cant sincronize. Could somebody help me?

    Hotmail.com has now become Outlook.com
The nearest thing to an official Microsoft answer I have found is here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/oemail-osend/how-to-set-up- mac-mail-to-sync-your-outlookcom/afdfe981-20c7-4d4a-b6b1-9329b27f018a
Since Hotmail.com has become Outlook.com it should apply to you as well.
    I also found the following http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac-software/how-set-up-my-hotmail-account-on-m ac-3500828/
To summarise it should be possible to set it up in Apple Mail as (preferably) an IMAP type account, or also a POP3 type account. So far there does not seem to be a way to add the Contacts or Calendars to the respective programs on the Mac. Windows users can use Outlook and get all three.

  • Set up  Hotmail account in Mail

I don't know how to set up my hotmail account in Mail. I need to know what is the name of the incoming/outgoing server and as well what type of server it is. I have contact hotmail staff but they told me that this feature is not possible so far in Mac, but I am surprise about this answer. Has somebody tried so far of mac user that have hotmail accounts?
    Thanks for the help!

I have just had this problem. I am at a loss while Apple will not give us a Mail application that supports http mail out of the box. Surely they realise that most people have a Hotmail or a similar free account... Makes me so angry
Anyway I am using the Daniel Parnell plug in:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/developer/10364/Daniel+Parnell
It used to work faultlessly (and still does) but to get it working on an Intel machine you need to set Mail to open using Rosetta. You can do this using Finder, then Get Info, then check the Open in Rosetta box.

  • Can't set up hotmail.co.uk with mac mail

Hello everyone, and thanks for your patience as I know very similar queries have been answered already in previous discussions.
I have just bought my first mac after years of pc use.
I would love to be able to access my hotmail.co.uk account through mac mail on os x tiger.
However, despite following all previous posts as accurately as I possibly can, this still won't work. For this reason, I have transcribed absolutely everything I enter into the account setup below, to see if anyone can see where I keep going wrong.
I have downloaded httpmail (http://www.automagic-software.com/products.php) as suggested on previous posts.
Also as suggested on a previous discussion, I have set mail to run using rosetta, to help deal with any complications I may face using my intel macbook.
My email address is [email protected]
Now, when I go to set up my account on mail, I enter:
    PAGE 1: GENERAL INFORMATION
    Account type: httpmail
    Account description: Hotmail acccount
    Full name: Alistair White
    Email address: [email protected]
    PAGE 2: INCOMING MAIL SERVER
    Incoming mail server: www.hotmail.co.uk
    Username: awhitetbn
    Password: ******
I am then presented with the account summary:
    Account description: Hotmail account
    Full name: Alistair White
    Email address: [email protected]
    Username: awhitetbn
    Incoming mail server: www.hotmail.co.uk
    SSL: off
    Outgoing mail server: services.msn.com:awhitetbn
    SSL: off
Next page: Conclusion: a new account has been created.
Ok! All seems well, so I send a test email. However, I get the following message:
Cannot send message using the server services.msn.com:awhitetbn
Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server.
However, in the pop-up menu, the only option I have is:
    send message using: HTTPmail:awhitetbn
I would dearly love this to work and I sense I am not far from the solution... If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. Where am I going wrong?
    Many many thanks
    Alistair White

  • Can't set up iCloud account for second Mac account

I set up an iCloud account for myself back when the service was first introduced.  Today I went to my wife's login on our iMac and tried to set up an account for her.  From within System Preferences -> iCloud, I selected "Create an Apple ID..."  A little message drops down saying "This device is no longer eligible for a free iCloud account."
I thought that separate login accounts on a single Mac could have their own iCloud accounts.  Is that wrong?
It's also possible that I set up multiple accounts under my own login back when I was first setting things up.  I am one of those with multiple Apple IDs, and was confused about exactly how I was supposed to handle that, so I am pretty sure that I set up at least 2 iCloud accounts under my login on our computer.  If I have too many iCloud accounts, is there a way to find out what they are and get rid of the unnecessary ones?

You can create and use different iCloud accounts on the same computer, whether they are single or multiple user.
There is a limit of 3 accounts you can create from a device but I thought this was only iOS devices - maybe not.
iCloud accounts can only be created using a valid email address, so I guess I'd start there to retrace what accounts you have.
My Apple ID and iForgot.com may be useful sites for you.

  • How do I set up hotmail account on MacBook Air - tried for 2 days now without success?

I have been trying to add a hotmail account on my new MacBook Air without success - searched on the net for 2 evenings now and still no success!  Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong although I think it could be that I am not sure that the Exchange Server address I have used is correct.  If anyone can help how to check I have the correct exchange server address, that would also be appreciated
    Thanks!

  • Setting up hotmail account

    Hi guys
I would like to have my hotmail account running very well together my BB Curve 8310 but it not happens. I succeed to include hotmail as my third e-mail account but it is not able to receive all of the e-mails. Sometimes I receive one but visiting the account thru the PC I can see many there. Why I am not able to receive all of them? When I concluded to set up the hotmail account I received an e-mail informing that I should configure the server or something like that but how to do it if hotmail can only be accessed thru www.hotmail.com or windows live?
Is there a specific tutorial step by step which could help me to set up it properly?
    Many thanks

  • Setting up hotmail account with N85

I have gmail in my n85 and it works fine, i want to set up my hotmail account too but i can´t find the hotmail settings?!!
    Can anyone help me please?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

In order to access e-mail throughan e-mail client like Outlook on a PC or the mail client in a Nokia phone, your email account must provide you access to a POP or IMAP server for incoming mail and an SMTP server for outgoing mail.
The free Hotmail service is only a web-based service, I don't know what they charge for further services because I don't use them personally, this information should on the MSN / Hotmail web sites.

  • Any reason not to set up Hotmail account on ipod touch?

I have just purchased a new iPod Touch. My main mail account is with Apple Mail, and I have a mobileme account. I also have a free Hotmail account? Is there any reason not to set up this Hotmail account on my touch, along with my Mail account - glitches, conflicts, etc. I can live without it if necessary. If no problems, can you point me to a step-by-step instruction guide to set up the Hotmail account? Thanks!

You can use the web ... using Safari - go to www.hotmail.com - this should bring up a mobile version of the login page. Log in to Hotmail to see your mail. If you don't logout of Hotmail, but simply hit the touch Home button you will be able to recheck you mail just by launching Safari and selecting the pages icon (bottom right) and then selecting the Hotmail page. You will see a Refresh option (or you can touch the clockwise pointing arrow in the URL line).

  • Can't set up Hotmail Account - Account Setup Freezes midway through

I have a HotmailPlus account, and I've downloaded the httpmail plug-in, and I'm still having trouble setting up my hotmail account in Mail. At the point where I enter the incoming mail server (hotmail.com), then my username and password, the program says, "Checking connection" then stops. It's only possible from there to cancel, I can't continue.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Okay, I figured out the solution to my own problem. I am running Tiger (10.4.3), and I had downloaded the 1.46 version of httpmail, which wasn't working even though it works for some people on the boards. So, I downloaded the Tiger version, and it works! Yippee! One small annoying problem solved!
    Thanks.
